Doja Cat Debuts New Tattoo Alongside Chilling Teaser For “Demons” Music Video

Doja Cat’s got a new tattoo. The hitmaker showed off her new ink, which comprised the image of a scythe that curves behind Doja’s ear. It’s a fitting piece given the abundance of death-related imagery that appears in the music video for her latest single, “Paint The Town Red”. At the time of writing, the song has peaked at #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. It’s a major bounce back from her other single of 2023, “Attention”, which peaked at #31.

Both singles come as Doja prepares to release her new album, Scarlet. While a release date hasn’t been confirmed yet, it is expected to drop before the end of fall. Scarlet is Doja’s studio album, and her first since 2021’s Planet Her. That project once again highlighted her massive rise. Just five years ago, her debut album, Amala, peaked at #138. However, her last two albums have been top-ten hits, with Planet Her peaking at #2. Could Scarlet take her to the top of the charts?

Doja Gets Spooky

However, a new tattoo wasn’t the only thing that Doja showed off this week. She also dropped a still from the music video for her next single, “Demons”. The pair of images are top-down shots of Doja sitting huddled in a bath tub filled with black liquid. A monstrous hand can be seen gripping the back of her. Furthermore, in the second image, Doja’s eyes are opaque white. It’s a nice play on the traditional possession imagery. For example, in the CW show Supernatural, demon possession was shown through opaque black eyes.

Additionally, Doja has recruited some true horror royalty for the music video. Christina Ricci will reportedly appear in the video alongside Doja. Perhaps best remembered as the 90s Wednesday Addams, Ricci’s horror cred go far beyond that iconic role. She also appeared in Sleepy Hollow, Monstrous, Netflix’s Wednesday, and Yellowjackets. Furthermore, she produced and starred in the short-lived Lizzy Borden Chronicles. Be sure to watch out for the drop of “Demons” in the near future.

Doja Cat Would Like To ‘Learn Martial Arts’ And Star In A Movie Like ‘John Wick,’ Which Would Mean Putting Music On Pause

Over the past few weeks, Doja Cat has proven to be a polarizing figure in music. She has not minced words about her frustrations with the industry, and even the fandoms that come with being a pop star.

Still, she is looking forward to sharing her upcoming fourth studio album, Scarlet, and going on tour with Ice Spice and Doechii. But perhaps once the impending Scarlet era comes to a close, Doja will explore some new avenues.

In a newly published interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Doja said she would like to give acting a spin.

“I would love to do movies that I believe in,” said Doja. “I would have to stop the music for a minute. But I would be down to immerse myself in acting for a certain period of time. I love comedies and action films. I want to learn martial arts and be in a film like John Wick.”

In addition to acting, Doja said she would like to “make clothing” and “dabble in makeup.”

Ahead of Scarlet, Doja has shared two singles — the downtempo, rap-focused “Attention” and the upbeat, rhythmic “Paint The Town Red.” If this is any indication of what her new album will sound like, the Scarlet era seems to be promising.

Doja Cat Said Her Upcoming Album, Which Finally Has A Confirmed Title, Will Have ‘Stories And Bops’

Doja Cat‘s upcoming fourth studio album may be one of the most mysterious projects of the year. When teasing the album, she’s gone back-and-forth when describing its sound, and has changed its name multiple times. She also has caught flack for decrying her fans, though she was later seen meeting with fans, and saying she loves them.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the album was confirmed to be called Scarlet (for now, at least), and Doja described its comprehensive sound.

“This new album is more introspective, but I’m not leaning so hard into that to where it becomes boring,” said Doja. “So I want to give stories and bops. It’s a nice mixture of both. I think this project is a really fun canvas for me to play with my rap skills and talk about what’s going on in my life. But I’m not abandoning who I was and what I know about pop and singing and that aspect of music.”

Ahead of the album, Doja has dropped the singles, “Attention” and “Paint The Town Red,” both of which feature her honing in on her rap stylings.

Though Doja has not yet revealed a release date for Scarlet, she is currently gearing up for The Scarlet Tour, during which, she will be joined by Ice Spice and Doechii.
