Russell Westbrook Trade Rumors Get Final Nail In The Coffin

Russell Westbrook is one of the best point guards to ever play the game of basketball. However, the last two years have stained his reputation. While playing for the Lakers, Westbrook has not been at his best. Although, many believe it is simply the situation he has been thrust into.

There is certainly some proof to back this up. For example, Russ has become infinitely better since coming off the bench. As the leader of the Lakers’ second unit, Russ can now be the ball-dominant player he was always meant to be. It has led to improved stats, as well as improved results.

Russell Westbrook Trade Talks

Consequently, trade talks surrounding Russ have died down considerably. Just a few months ago, it really seemed like the Lakers wanted nothing more than to just get rid of Russ. Now, however, it seems like they are dead set on keeping him, no matter what.

In a report from Sam Amick of The Athletic, it was revealed that the Lakers fully intend on keeping Russ past the trade deadline. Overall, this is good news for Russ. He has ultimately changed the narrative around him, which means his free agency period will go much smoother.

The Lakers and Westbrook still have a lot of work to do. As it stands, the Lakers are 12th in the Western Conference with a record of 11-16. Needless to say, they need to be a lot better if they want to make the playoffs.

SOURCE SPORTS: Russell Westbrook Says He Didn’t Hold a Grudge Against Patrick Beverly

Los Angeles Lakers training camp is officially open, and Russell Westbrook spoke to the media about his new teammate and once on-court enemy Patrick Beverly.

Many wondered about the fit of the two stars, and Westbrook let the media know that any past issue didn’t need any special effort to smooth over.

“I’m an easygoing guy,” Westbrook said. “I don’t hold grudges against anybody. Life is too short. We’ve been blessed with too many opportunities and platforms to walk around and hold grudges. I just continue to move forward.

“Obviously, when I’m on the court, I don’t have any friends other than that basketball and the people that’s on my team, so I compete. Other than that, off the floor, I’m just a normal guy that likes to have fun.”

Speaking with Lakers Insider Dave McMenamin during Lakers Media Day, Beverly stated the two have struck up a bond since Beverly’s arrival in L.A.

According to Beverly, he and Westbrook come in to train together before 7 a.m. and have become gym partners.

“You can’t really take everything you do in the game and put it in real life,” Beverley told ESPN. “Since I’ve been here … if I was to have a best friend on the team right now, for sure it’d be him. We spend the most time together. We’ve been locked and lift weights together and all that stuff. So I’m super excited.”

Beverly then got a joke off about their new friendship.

“We went on this boat ride, you feel me? It was just us two. It was real intimate,” Beverley said. “It was 2,000 candles, you feel me? He landed in a helicopter. I came in one of my underwater vessels. We talked three hours over wine. He had a two-Michelin-star chef come pull up, cook some steaks. I had my chef pull up and make the desserts. And that’s how we got to where we are now.”

Russell Westbrook Divulges On Relationship With Patrick Beverley

Russell Westbrook is looking to bounce back this season after having one of the worst campaigns of his life last year. Westbrook is a player who has always been known for giving it his all, and fans were concerned over his poor play last year.

In addition to all of this, Westbrook now has to play with Patrick Beverley, who used to be his nemesis. These two went at it quite a bit and they had some bad things to say about each other in the media. With that being said, reporters have been curious about whether or not Russ feels like he has had to compromise who he is.

Russ was very adamant that things are fine between him and Beverley. As you can see in the tweet down below, Westbrook claimed to be an easygoing guy who has never held a grudge, especially not when it’s related to battling on the court.

“[There was] no process,” Westbrook said. “I’m an easygoing guy. I don’t hold grudges against anybody—life is too short. We’ve been blessed with too many opportunities and platforms to walk around and hold grudges. I just continue to move forward. Obviously, when I’m on the court, I don’t have any friends other than that basketball and the people that’s on my team, so I compete. Other than that, off the floor, I’m just a normal guy that likes to have fun.”

This should be good news for the Lakers, who will need everyone to be getting along if they want this season to work out. After last year, any improvement will be a massive improvement.

When the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Patrick Beverly, fans immediately wondered how he would blend with star guard Russell Westbrook. The two have had a lengthy history of beef, but now all of that appears to be a thing of the past as Beverly refers to Westbrook as his best friend.

Speaking with Lakers Insider Dave McMenamin during Lakers Media Day, Beverly stated the two have struck up a bond since Beverly’s arrival in L.A.

According to Beverly, he and Westbrook come in to train together before 7 a.m. and have become gym partners.

Russell Westbrook Claps Back At Skip Bayless For Calling Him “Westbrick”

Russell Westbrook Said "He Was Disappointed" That He Was Benched In Latest Lakers Loss

Russell Westbrook has had it with the names.

Skip Bayless had taken to Twitter to take a dig at the Lakers for drafting former Michigan State guard, Max Christie, who is not the best 3-point shooter.

“Lakers acquire a 2nd-round pick, take Michigan State’s Max Christie, who shot only 32% from 3 last season,” Bayless tweeted. “Perfect! He’ll fit right in with LeBron and Westbrick.”

Westbrook, who has apparently had enough of the Skip Bayless slander, responded to the sports analyst on Twitter, telling him not to say anything he wouldnt say in person.

“Yoooo… watch your mouth. Don’t say anything here you wouldn’t say to my face.”

Bayless has not responded to Westbrook yet. He might bring it up on the next episode of Undisputed. However, this is not the frist time Bayless has been called out for calling Westbrook out of his name. Westbrook’s wife, Nina Westbrook, called out Bayless on Twitter a few months ago for referring to her husband as “Westbrick.”

“You’ve got to stop calling people out of their name,” Nina Westbrook said in reponse to a tweet from Bayless.

“You are very disrespectful and a bully. This is why so many young people think it’s okay to exhibit this type of behavior. Social media has become such heinous place because of people like you. My name is Westbrook,” she added.

“I’m tired you you @RealSkipBayless calling my husband out of his name. It is extremely childish. That is my name as well, and many other peoples name. You’re disrespectful, and I’m extremely offended by your behavior. You should apologize.”

SOURCE SPORTS: Lakers Looking To Keep Russell Westbrook After Dismal First Season

Russell Westbrook Said "He Was Disappointed" That He Was Benched In Latest Lakers Loss

It’s safe to say that the Lakers’ first season with Russell Westbrook has proven to be a bust. With Frank Vogel gone and Darvin Ham as the new head coach, the franchise is looking to fix their roster, but that doesn’t include trading Westbrook.

In an article by sports journalist Marc Stein, the Lakers are leaning toward keeping Russell Westbrook, hoping that Darvin Ham will be able to turn things around and give Westbrook an environment where he can thrive.

Stein wrote:

“The Lakers are tuning out the skeptics yet again and insisting to anyone who will listen that they would rather keep Russell Westbrook on the roster for next season than surrender additional assets to convince someone to trade for him. The Lakers are also said to be adamant that they won’t release the former MVP and eat his $47.1 million player option for next season after Westbrook picks it up.”

Hopefully, the Lakers will make a few more moves with the offseason approaching in just a few weeks, so there won’t be a repeat of this past season.
