Dame Dash Fires Back At JAY-Z For His Latest Move Regarding “Reasonable Doubt”

Dame Dash isn’t fazed by JAY-Z’s attorneys filing a notice that the rights to his 1996 album Reasonable Doubt will switch from Roc-A-Fella to his possession in 2031. The label’s co-founder is still trying to sell off his shares of the company and reaffirmed his plans in a post on Instagram on Tuesday. “They can say what they want, this sh*t is still for sale,” he clarified. “You’re not buying a copyright, you’re buying a piece of a company ROC A FELLA INC. Please only serious inquiries only!”

Fans shared their support for Dame in the comments section of his post. “Rocafella wouldn’t be a household name if it wasn’t for Dame!! Marketing genius! Shout out to #Harlem,” one user wrote. Another top comment added: “Jay Z can’t break bread, he has to have the whole loaf, crust & crumbs.”

It’s unclear whether anyone will actually step up and buy the shares from Dame. Lupe Fiasco recently suggested that Drake has the means and should do so in a post on social media. “@champagnepapi will keep it safe for generations to come,” he wrote. “This is grail and influenced an innumerable amount of rappers to see it peddle such a lack of grace genuinely hurts my feelings a little bit. But also on savages st fk it…either donate it to a museums for safekeeping or seriously let Drake make an offer so he can put in where it needs to be. Or just keep the s**t OG you should be infinitely proud of this. Without it there is no me as I am and I’m sure other MC’s will agree.”

Jay-Z Files Notice About Future “Reasonable Doubt” Rights Before Dame Dash Auction

Dame Dash had been trying to sell his Roc-A-Fella shares for some time, but earlier this month, it was revealed that the U.S. Marshall would publicly auction off his 33.3% interest in the company. The auction is scheduled for later this month, according to TMZ, and it looks like Jay-Z is getting prepared. Recently, the hitmaker’s attorneys filed a notice that the rights to his 1996 album Reasonable Doubt will switch from Roc-A-Fella to Shawn Carter come 2031.

The outlet also notes that the rights would have gone back to Jay-Z 35 years after the album’s release anyway. The filing simply makes it official. This means that whoever ends up winning the auction later this month will get one-third of Reasonable Doubt revenue for only about six years. The minimum bid is $1.2 million.

Anyone interested in the auction has been encouraged to email Christopher Brown, Josh Webber’s attorney. Webber and Muddy Waters Pictures won a massive civil suit against Dash back in 2022 over defamation and copyright infringement. He’s accused of telling people he owned the rights to the film Dear Frank, which Webber and Muddy Waters Pictures produced, despite having been dropped from the project. Reportedly, the auction is intended to cover the judgment.

Again, this comes after Dame Dash unsuccessfully tried to sell his Roc-A Fella shares for years. Last month, Lupe Fiasco even hopped online to suggest that Drake buy them. What do you think of Jay-Z filing a notice that the rights to Reasonable Doubt will be his in 2031? What about them going up for auction later this month to cover a civil suit judgment? Dame Dash Will Reportedly Have Roc-A-Fella Shares Auctioned Off After Sale Attempts

It looks like Dame Dash will finally fulfill his years-long mission to sell off his shares in Roc-A-Fella… but not on his own terms. Moreover, TMZ Hip Hop reports that the U.S. Marshall will publicly auction off his 33.3% interest in the company he co-founded with Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke at an August 29 Manhattan event, according to supposed legal documents reportedly obtained by the publication. Apparently, hopefuls will have to email attorney Christopher Brown in order to register to appear at the auction. Brown represents Josh Webber, a film director who won an $800K-plus civil judgement against the music executive two years ago over copyright infringement and defamation.

Along with Muddy Waters Pictures, Webber produced the film Dear Frank and sued Dame Dash for allegedly falsely claiming to folks that he owned the rights to the film even after the project dropped him. According to TMZ, the court documents specify that this auction for the Roc-A-Fella shares is to cover this judgement, and that Hov’s Reasonable Doubt is the Roc’s biggest asset. The minimum bid for Dash’s shares must be at least $1.2 million at the auction. We’ll see who ends up with this historically contentious and now infamous stake.

Dame Dash’s Roc-A-Fella Shares Will Be Up For Auction

Furthermore, this comes after Dame Dash tried to sell his Roc-A-Fella shares, including Reasonable Doubt, on multiple occasions, none of which had proved successful. However, Lupe Fiasco had an interesting proposal regarding this, as he asked Drake to buy Dame’s shares.

@champagnepapi will keep it safe for generations to come,” the Chicago MC expressed on social meida. “This is grail and influenced an innumerable amount of rappers to see it peddle such a lack of grace genuinely hurts my feelings a little bit. But also on savages s**t f**k it…either donate it to a museums for safekeeping or seriously let Drake make an offer so he can put in where it needs to be. Or just keep the s**t OG you should be infinitely proud of this. Without it there is no me as I am and I’m sure other MC’s will agree.” We’ll se whether Aubrey Graham will hit up the Big Apple on August 29.

Memphis Bleek And Just Blaze Tease First New Collab In Two Decades

Memphis Bleek and Just Blaze are legendary soldiers in the Roc-A-Fella army. They helped to define the first half of the 2000s alongside label boss Jay-Z. Bleek and Blaze have taken different career paths in the years since the Roc disbanded, but all that is just water under the bridge. The two artists are coming back together for a new single, and it will be their first in over two decades. The best part? Fans won’t have to wait long to hear it.

Memphis Bleek announced the collaboration on Instagram on June 10. The rapper posted the artwork for the single, which is titled “Durag Bleek.” The single artwork features photos of Bleek and Just Blaze from over the years, suggesting that the song will reflect on all the work the two artists have done together. It also came with a release date of Friday, June 14. That’s right, the two Roc icons will be releasing the new song the very same week it’s announced. The last time Memphis Bleek was heard over a Blaze beat was the 2005 album 5:34. Ironically, the most famous Blaze beat on the album, “Dear Summer,” doesn’t have any rapping from Bleek whatsoever. Instead, it’s a solo JAY-Z track.

Memphis Bleek’s New Single Will Drop June 14

Memphis Bleek and Just Blaze have had their differences over the years. The latter admitted this during a 2022 appearance on the Drink Champs podcast. He said that Blaze gave away the beats for Cam’ron’s “Oh Boy” and Joe Budden’s “Pump It Up” before he got a chance to do anything with them. “That’s cool he did do that, and I always want to f*ck him up for that,” the rapper said jokingly. “But I can’t, that’s my brother. I love him. N***as trying to say I passed up on ‘Oh Boy.’ F*ck out of here. I would have hit you in the head with an ‘Oh Boy.’”

The Roc reunion also tracks, given that Bleek is launching a label-themed podcast titled Roc Solid. The podcast will delve into the history of Roc-A-Fella and feature guest appearances from the likes of Young Guru and Freeway among others. A release has not yet been announced, but the teaser for the podcast suggests that Roc adjacent rappers like Ja Rule and N.O.R.E. will appear as well. Who knows, maybe Just Blaze will drop by and bless fans with some previously unheard stories.

Kendrick Lamar Receives Offer From Dame Dash About His Stake In Roc-A-Fella Records

Kendrick Lamar has long been a massive fan of both Nas and Jay-Z, and one of his hot takes on the once-upon-a-time rivalry might get him closer to a new business venture. Moreover, Dame Dash recently discovered one of his old tweets from 2010 about Hov’s Reasonable Doubt being better than Esco’s Illmatic, and had an idea for K.Dot. “@kendricklamar my 3rd is for sale if you want to buy it. Any serious offers DM,” he captioned a screenshot of the tweet on Instagram uploaded Thursday (June 6). While Kendrick has yet to publicly respond, it would be interesting if this full-circle moment actually ends up happening.

Of course, Roc-A-Fella Records is not what it was in the early 2000s anymore, but it’s connected to Jay-Z’s wider business empire, so there’s got to be something good out of it. Regardless, we know that Kendrick Lamar is keeping busy these days and has plenty of opportunities to coincide a big announcement with. For example, he will perform at The Forum in Los Angeles for a special Juneteenth show with friends, which folks can’t wait to witness. After all, the Drake beef alone is enough to entice potential concert-goers in the city, not to mention the rest of this legendary catalog.

Dame Dash’s Offer To Kendrick Lamar

Elsewhere, Kendrick Lamar will have to contend with a lot of bad business blood if he considers buying into Roc-A-Fella Records, which Dame Dash owns a third of through his stake in the company as a co-founder. Amid Dame’s other legal issues that almost saw him sell his shares through a court order over an unfulfilled lawsuit settlement, the Roc intervened. Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke, the other two co-founders, blocked Dash from selling his shares due to the board of directors having to sign off on that decision first. The music executive also previously teased selling his shares to Cam’ron and Mase.

“In 2021, I was trying to sell my shares at public auction,” Dame Dash explained regarding the business backstory. “Jay and Biggs sued me, or had Roc-A-Fella Inc. sue me, and say I was trying to sell all the shares. I’m the CEO of Roc-A-Fella. What Jay did was pretend to be the CEO of Roc-A-Fella. He hired his lawyers on Roc-A-Fella Inc.’s behalf and sued me. Jay’s lawyers were being paid by me and the money generated from Roc-A-Fella Inc.”

Dame Dash Claims He Nearly Started Rapping Amid “Trouble” At Roc-A-Fella

Dame Dash says that he considered turning to rapping himself as Roc-A-Fella struggled during the early stages. Appearing on the Moguls in the Making podcast, the label’s co-founder explained that, had JAY-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” not blown up as it did, he would’ve gotten in the studio.

“In that moment, Roc-A-Fella was in trouble and if that ‘Big Pimpin” didn’t work, I was gon’ start rapping,” he claimed. “[I don’t got bars, but] I would have just did it for the company.” Elsewhere in the interview, he also suggested that JAY-Z was merely pretending to be him on the song. “Everything Jay said, he was pretending to be me,” he claimed.

Dash additionally reflected on the feud between JAY-Z and Nas and claimed there was never any concern over possible violence. In doing so, he compared it to The Notorious B.I.G. and 2Pac. “There was no fear of us getting hurt when it came to Nas. I’m telling you right now, there was no fear of any violence when it came to that,” he insisted. “There was no fear when it came to us of any battle that we had when it came to violence. We were never worried about that. Now, ‘Pac and Biggie, n****s got killed. But n****s get killed in Hip Hop now. They be battling and then they end up dead. It’s a little more serious now.” Check out his full comments during the interview below.

Dame Dash Speaks On Roc-A-Fella Records

As for “Big Pimpin’” the track ended up being a massive success for Roc-A-Fella. It peaked at No. 18 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and has since been certified three times platinum by the RIAA. Be on the lookout for further updates on Dame Dash on HotNewHipHop.

Dame Dash Was Confident Jay-Z And Nas Beef Would Never Get Violent

Dame Dash has had a lot to say regarding rap battles as of late. The Roc-A-Fella co-founder gave his thoughts on the Drake vs. Kendrick Lamar situation, and how it compared to the one he was directly involved in between Jay-Z and Nas. Dash claimed that the the former was actually the best battle he ever saw, and part of the reason why is because of how intense it got. The mogul was surprised by the things Drake and Lamar said to each other. When it came to the Jay vs. Nas situation, however, he was confident as to how it would go from the start.

Dame Dash discussed the Jay and Nas battle during a recent appearance on the Moguls In the Making podcast. He was asked to reflect on the back-and-forth between the iconic rappers, which led the mogul to assert that he never feared for his life. Or Jay-Z’s life, for that matter. He was positive that Nas was not going to push things in a violent direction. “There was no fear of us getting hurt when it came to Nas,” he told the hosts. “I’m telling you right now, there was no fear of any violence when it came to that. There was no fear when it came to us of any battle that we had when it came to violence. We were never worried about that.”

Dame Dash Recalled Having “No Fear” About Bloodshed

When asked to elaborate on the point of violence, Dash compared the battle to the one that predated it by several years: Biggie vs. 2Pac. “Now, ‘Pac and Biggie, n**gas got killed,” he asserted. “But n**gas get killed in Hip Hop now. They be battling and then they end up dead. It’s a little more serious now.” Dash’s comment about Nas not being the type to resort to violence was a compliment, as he knew the rapper to be a stand-up person. If anything, Dame Dash has been more critical of Jay-Z in the years since the beef blew over.

Dash was furious when Jay-Z apologized to Nas following the release of the diss “Super Ugly.” He told the hosts of the CEO Show in 2023. “I was hitting him from the thing like, ‘Get off the radio! We looking crazy!’ And Irv [Gotti] did that sh*t,” he recalled. “A Queens n**ga, he gave him — pause — the banana in the tailpipe. That was a Queens thing — he didn’t even see that. Yo Irv, stay out my business.” Thankfully, to Dash’s point, everybody involved has lived to reflect on the beef.

Dame Dash Claims JAY-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” Was Actually About Him: “He Was Just Pretending To Be Me”

Dame Dash says that JAY-Z was just “pretending” to be him for the song “Big Pimpin’” and that he’s the actual inspiration. He discussed the track during an interview with the Moguls In The Making podcast as caught by The Shade Room on Tuesday. When one of the hosts noted that they heard Dash was the inspiration for the song, he confirmed: “Everything Jay said, he was pretending to be me.”

In the comments section of the post, fans were tired of hearing Dash speak on JAY-Z. “There should be a rule that if you book Dame Dash for a show that you’re not allowed to ask Jay Z questions. We don’t care anymore,” one user wrote in a popular comment. Another added: “People booking dame to talk about jay z are just as much of a problem of him talking about jay z.”

Kendrick Lamar Is Overrated & Drake Has More Hits, Former Roc-A-Fella Rapper Believes

It seems like the hip-hop world will be debating the Kendrick Lamar and Drake battle for the rest of 2024, and no take is safe from criticism. Moreover, former Roc-A-Fella rapper Oschino recently offered his two cents on the matter while appearing on the African Cultural Art Forum. Specifically, the State Property MC took issue with the Compton lyricist’s songs, arguing that his Toronto opponent has better hits and has more widespread support behind him. Whether or not you agree with this take specifically is another story, but you can’t deny that things aren’t as black and white as either artist’s strongest Stans would have you believe.

“First of all, Drake got a whole country behind him,” Oschino said of their feud. “Drake got the most hits. Girls like Drake. Kendrick can rap too, but I think he overrated, though. All of his songs are not hot to me. When Drake sings, I hate it. When Drake sings, I cut it off. I say, ‘Drake, don’t do this.’ When Kendrick Lamar sings on some of his songs, he tries to go too deep, I’m like… [unimpressed expression].

Oschino Gives His Take On Kendrick Lamar Versus Drake

“People like something they don’t understand a little bit,” Oschino continued. “You need to be saying some crazy double entendres sometimes but Kendrick Lamar got a lot of songs I don’t like. Lyrics? He hot. But some of the songs, they ain’t for me.” Of course, he’s not alone in thinking that the former TDE creative is overrated, as many other spitters have come forward to criticize him. Perhaps the loudest and most scathing of these is Azealia Banks, who continues to rally against him on social media. But we’ll see how this debate ages; after all, folks are still reeling from the relentless turn this battle took very recently.

Meanwhile, some other criticisms against Kendrick Lamar center more around the biracial angle that he took against Drake, which some understood as a deeper exploration of cultural appropriation and speaking to your community’s issues. Others, though, see it as an outright mistake either way. But both warring factions have a lot of valid points and impressive moments to stand by. We’ll see which side convinces the other first…

Memphis Bleek Claims ASAP Mob Is The Modern Day Roc-A-Fella

There were lots of New York crews fighting for hip-hop supremacy in the 2000s. Ruff Ryders, Dipset, and Terror Squad all made legitimate strides, but Roc-A-Fella ultimately came out on top. It helped that the Roc had the biggest solo star of the era in Jay-Z. Memphis Bleek was one of the rappers who held it down alongside Hov, so he got to see the absolute best that NY had to offer. It consequently carries a lot of weight when someone like him praises a crew from a younger generation.

Memphis Bleek recently discussed the lineage of New York hip-hop during a recent appearance on Fresh Pair. The rapper was asked about the lasting impact of Roc-A-Fella Records, and he claimed that nobody has surpassed it. “Some people still try to create that Roc wave,” he explained. “You got a couple people that came close.” The one Bleek has been most impressed with has been ASAP Mob. Apparently, he’s an enormous fan of what the Harlem collective has done over the last decade.

Memphis Bleek Praised ASAP Mob For Coming “Close”

“The closest team that I thought was gonna do it was the ASAP crew,” the rapper noted. “I can’t front that, they all was shakin.” It’s easy to see why Bleek was so impressed. ASAP Mob helped to popularize “cloud rap” in the mainstream courtesy of ASAP Rocky’s 2011 mixtape, Live. Love. ASAP. Rocky went on to become a bonafide pop star off the success of singles like “Goldie” and “F*ckin’ Problemz.” Ferg was the next one up, and he bolstered the Mob’s street credentials. ASAP Mob’s aesthetic also carried over to the world of fashion.

ASAP Mob agrees with Memphis Bleek’s sentiment. During a Billboard interview, the crew referenced Roc-A-Fella as a major influence. “We look up to Wu-Tang Clain, Dipset, G-Unit, Roc-A-Fella, all them n**gas before us, but we’re the best, bro,” ASAP Rocky claimed. “You can’t be mad at us thinking we’re the best.” ASAP Ant doubled down. “We, like we were one of the crews that brought it back to Wu-Tang, Roc-A-Fella Records,” he added. “We provided the wave to the new generation.”
