The Super Bowl is just days away, which means we’ll finally see Rihanna onstage for the first time since 2017 when she performs the Super Bowl Halftime Show. And while excitement for her performance is reaching peak levels, there’s even more buzz about what she has planned for after it — namely, whether she’ll be releasing a new album, her first since 2016’s Anti.

Ever since she was confirmed as the halftime show headliner, fans have been wondering whether she’ll release a follow-up to Anti, with rumors that she’ll also announce a stadium tour running rampant on Twitter. Even Rihanna’s musical contemporaries have thrown a few logs on the flame, speculating that she’s been rehearsing brand-new music in the studio.

The response is understandable; after all, Rihanna is one of the few marquee stars in the music world who could sell out a stadium tour anywhere in the world within minutes of tickets going on sale, and it has been six years since fans have had a chance to see her live. Unfortunately, Rih herself seemingly shot down hopes for a new album, telling the Associated Press, “Super Bowl is one thing, new music is another thing.”

That doesn’t mean that she isn’t working on something; she also acknowledged the increased anticipation that would result from her accepting the Super Bowl spot. “The second that I announced this, I said, ‘Oh, my God, they’re going to think my album is coming,” she recalled. “I need to get to work.”

However, even with our patience stretched to the breaking point, many fans have taken a philosophical outlook about the wait, echoing Jerrod Carmichael’s advice from the Golden Globes: “Rihanna, you take all the time you want on that album, girl. Don’t let these fools on the internet pressure you into nothing!” If it results in the best body of work possible, we’ll wait.

Now that the Grammys are out of the way, the biggest music event fans are looking forward to is the Super Bowl. Yes, there will be some football — maybe even some good football — but more importantly, Rihanna is performing at the Halftime Show after nearly seven years out of the limelight.

Naturally, this offers plentiful opportunities for discussion, but not everyone is equally suited to talk about the event. For instance, Stephen A Smith, the outspoken ESPN pundit, who asked about Rihanna’s upcoming performance and immediately when into sports talk mode to preemptively compare Rihanna’s performance to Beyoncé’s previous Super Bowl performances.

After he was lambasted by basically the entire internet he apologized, but that wasn’t enough for some — including Leslie Jones — and the whole escapade culminated with Smith having a minor meltdown on his own show, First Take, over it.

In what was perhaps a bit dedicated to ribbing his former ESPN colleague, HBO host Bomani Jones pretty pointedly sidestepped a similar faux pas on his own new show Game Theory. While his cue cards teed him up to answer the question of whether Rihanna could really outdo Beyoncé, Jones seemingly goes off on an unrelated tangent, bringing in Adam Silver and LeBron James, the BeyHive and the Navy, and Jalen Hurts, he jokingly plays both sides before lampshading the whole speech. “If this were a presidential debate,” he explained, “I’d have done what they do when they don’t wanna answer the question: I just started talking about some other sh*t.” Watch the hilarious bit below.

According to The Sun, Rihanna will announce a full return to music, including new songs and a North American Tour. The tour is believed to be a set up of mini residencies across America as opposed to visiting multiple cities.

The run across America is believed to be simple and quick as she will go right back to the development of her Fenty line of beauty and lingerie.

Last week, in a PEOPLE exclusive, Rihanna is stated to be “focused” and “rehearsing” for the halftime show.

“She is ready for the Super Bowl,” says the source. “She is rehearsing right now. She’s very excited, ready and focused.

Rihanna is staging her comeback on one of the biggest nights in television, Super Bowl LVII, which is set for February 12. A source close to the Barbadian-bred mogul reveals that the “Diamonds” singer is more focused than ever for her upcoming halftime performance.

“She is ready for the Super Bowl,” a source told People. “She is rehearsing right now. She’s very excited, ready, and focused.”

Despite the 34-year-old new mom being under a presumably grueling rehearsal schedule, the singer reportedly “can’t wait to kill it,” according to the source.

In October, ahead of her highly-anticipated halftime performance released a teaser trailer, only further amping up excitement.

But before Rihanna hits the stage, Country star Chris Stapleton will open the show with the National Anthem. Emmy award-winning Abbot Elementary actress Sheryl Lee Ralph is also expected to appear, performing a rendition of the Black National Anthem, “Lift Every Voice.” Iconic producer, singer, and songwriter Babyface will also grace the stage to perform “America the Beautiful.”

In other news, Rihanna has a lot to be excited about. Aside from her new bundle of joy that she had this past May with boyfriend ASAP Rocky, Rihanna’s track for Black Panther 2, titled “Lift Me Up” — her first major project since 2016’s ANTI — has been nominated for an Academy Award.

Some of the picks include “What’s My Name,” “Umbrella,” “Rude Boy,” “Work,” and “FourFiveSeconds.” However, out of all the tracks, “Umbrella” is the most popular pick amongst the Eagles. Valid pick, though plenty of players also shouted out “What’s My Name.” Also, they sang some of the iconic melodies, shouting “Oh, na na, what’s my name?” and “You can stand under my umbrella (ella, ella, eh eh).”

Still, some players thought they all needed some vocal work. “That’s probably the only song they know and they sounded terrible,” an Eagle remarked. Regardless, their energy was on point, yet probably didn’t match the sheer volume with which people will scream those anthems at the show. In fact, recent reports indicate that RiRi might be bringing the spectacle on the road in a tour. Many people are calling this a “Ri-naissance,” not to be confused with the other in-demand tour by Beyoncé. “She has her North American dates ready to announce for 2023 after the Super Bowl,” a source told The Sun.

It’s Rihanna’s world, we’re just living in it. Since the initial announcement of her earning the coveted Super Bowl Halftime show spot last September, the Navy has been eagerly awaiting the Barbadian singer’s return to the stage.

As it turns out, that may not be the only performance she puts on this year. According to The Sun, the Bad Gal could be heading out on a North American tour later in 2023. This would allegedly be followed by a trip across the pond to entertain more audiences next year.

“She has her North American dates ready to announce for 2023 after the Super Bowl. It will be a matter of time before she announces European dates for 2024,” a source tells the outlet.

Additionally, they note that “[Rihanna’s] plan is to set up mini residencies in major cities rather than visit multiple places.”

The last time the “Needed Me” hitmaker gave us an album was in 2016. The arrival of ANTI was subsequently followed by a legendary tour. Of course, the Savage X Fenty creator hasn’t made any project announcements just yet. However, if she’s heading out on the road again, it wouldn’t be unlikely to see her drop something.

Interestingly, insiders say that Rihanna is seeking a “short and sweet” return to her singing career. This is because she has so much on her plate between her lingerie brand as well as Fenty Beauty and Skin.
