R. Kelly Is Reportedly Engaged To One Of His Victims, Joycelyn Savage

R. Kelly may be going to prison for a very, very long time, but that doesn’t mean the saga of his mistreatment of women is over yet. According to TMZ, one of his alleged victims, Joycelyn Savage, wrote to the judge in his New York case ahead of his sentencing to ask for a more lenient sentence. In her letter, she introduces herself as “Robert Kelly’s fiancee,” suggesting that at some point in the past nine years — Savage is currently 26 years old and met Kelly when she was 17 — the pair became engaged.

She also asserts that “I’m not the victim that the government has portrayed me to be,” writing that the relationship between the two is “amazing” despite the near-30-year difference in age (Kelly is 55) and the disturbing circumstances under which they met. However, Savage’s parents, Timothy and Jonjelyn, are not convinced. They told TMZ through their attorney that Joycelyn never made any engagement known to the family, and wonder why she put it in a letter to the judge rather than mentioning it in court while under oath.

In 2017, Savage told TMZ in an interview that she was “not being brainwashed or anything like that,” insisting that she was staying with Kelly of her own free will shortly after it was reported that Kelly was keeping multiple young women in a “sex cult.” Obviously, it has been since revealed that his activities went much further than that, with a jury convicting Kelly of racketeering and sex trafficking; he was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

R. Kelly is no longer on suicide watch at the New York city federal jail where he’s being held. The 55-year-old R&B singer was sentenced last week to 30 years in prison for efforts to collect victims to subject to sexual abuse.

Prosecutors say, Robert Kelly used his fame and money to prey upon children and young women for his own sexual gratification.

He has since filed a lawsuit against the jail with claims that the imposed suicide watch caused him mental distress and violated his constitutional rights.

R. Kelly is currently behind bars and will be for a very long time. TMZ caught up with Gospel legend Kirk Franklin to ask his opinion on the fallen R&B king. Franklin strayed from speaking in support of Kells but did highlight his stance on separating the art and artist.

“I think it’s very difficult to separate the artist from the art and I think that’s why the microphone is a very responsible thing. Even with myself because I’ve made mistakes, and I have to be able to be responsible to know that to whom much is given, much is required.”

Do you agree with Kirk? You can hear it from the man himself below.

R. Kelly Was Removed From Suicide Watch After Suing The Brooklyn Prison

Just days after suing the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, R. Kelly has been removed from suicide watch, according to Pitchfork. Kelly had been placed on suicide watch for the first time in October 2021 after being convicted of racketeering and sex trafficking in a federal case tried in New York in September. However, Kelly sued the prison last week after he was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being placed under observation again, calling the suicide watch conditions “harmful and punitive.”

He claims that he did not have any thoughts of self-harm and believes the additional measures — wearing a thin smock and being denied eating utensils — were intended to further punish him. Kelly’s lawsuit pursued an unspecified “award of compensatory damages for all emotional distress, humiliation, pain and suffering, and other harm.” Meanwhile, MDC Brooklyn filed a memo on July 2 saying that a staff psychologist had recommended the suicide watch after an in-person assessment, noting that Kelly had been allowed to keep some “comfort items and personal effects.”

In addition to his 30-year prison sentence, Kelly was ordered to get treatment for an unspecified sexual disorder and will have five years of supervised release upon the completion of his sentence. In August, he’ll have another trial in Chicago — this time, for child pornography.

R. Kelly Ordered to Mental Health Treatment as Part of Sentence for Sex Crimes

R. Kelly Reportedly Denied Conjugal Visits With Both Girlfriends

R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years behind bars for committing federal sex crimes. If he happens to complete his sentence, his punishment won’t be over. According to TMZ, Kelly would have to participate in mental health treatment and must avoid contact with anyone under 18.

R. Kelly will also be under five years of supervised release once he is out of jail.

According to The New York Times, R. Kelly appeared in front of Judge Ann M. Donnelly last week wearing black eyeglasses and a khaki shirt. Donnelly presided over Kelly’s trial and addressed each count Kelly was convicted of, including racketeering and violation of the Mann Act, which outlaws interstate transportation of women and girls for “immoral purpose.” R. Kelly sat at the defense table and greeted the judge with “good morning.”

After his sentencing, Judge Donnelly stated, “the public has to be protected from behaviors like this.” R. Kelly declined a statement due to pending litigation. He confirmed his denial to the judge in court.

In a pre-sentencing memo, R. Kelly was stated to use his fame and money to “conceal his crimes.”

“He continued his crimes and avoided punishment for them for almost 30 years and must now be held to account,” the US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York wrote in the memo.

R. Kelly is represented by Jennifer Bonjean, who also represented Bill Cosby, and asked for a sentence of under 14 years. Bonjean also argued that R. Kelly’s sentence should “not [be] based on inflamed emotions,” but instead on the nature of the charges. During the sentencing, six women testified to the horrors of their experiences with the R&B star. Bonjean also advocated for R. Kelly’s upbringing, citing he was sexually abused as a child and lived in an unstable environment.

R. Kelly is also facing trial in Chicago federal court for child pornography and obstruction charges in August. He is expected to be transferred back to his hometown after sentencing.

R. Kelly Has Sued A Brooklyn Jail After He Claims They Wrongfully Placed Him On Suicide Watch

Earlier this week, R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison in his federal sex trafficking and racketeering case. The sentence was handed down after he was found guilty of the charges in September of last year. Federal prosecutors sought a sentence “in excess of 25 years” as they deemed Kelly a danger to the public. While it appears that Kelly will not appeal his sentence, he is suing a Brooklyn jail for wrongfully placing him on suicide watch according to Consequence. Kelly claims that he has been subjected to “harmful and punitive” suicide watch conditions since his sentence was handed down on June 29.

The lawsuit says Kelly was put on suicide watch despite having no thoughts of suicide or harming himself in any way. Kelly believes he was put on suicide watch as a way to further punish him. Additionally, the lawsuit claims that Kelly was forced to wear a paper-like smock and denied the use of utensils to eat. He even compared his imprisonment to that of convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell. As a result, Kelly is seeking an “award of compensatory damages for all emotional distress, humiliation, pain and suffering, and other harm in an amount to be determined at trial.”
