Pusha T Declares Himself and Kendrick Lamar “The Best Rappers” In New Interview

Pusha T’s It’s Almost Dry and Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers are two of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2022, so far, and have cemented Push and Kendrick as two of the best, if not the best, rappers of the year. In a new interview with HotNewHipHop, Pusha T declared himself and K.Dot the best rappers in the game and calls the Compton MC’s latest album “great competition.”

“I think he made a strong album. I think his album is definitely a conversation piece, for sure. I think that Kendrick does what he does lyrically,” Push said. “I think it was impressive, for sure. I think it’s great competition. It’s a matter of what you want to hear. I feel like for what it is that I do and what I was going for, and like I said, this is rap album of the year to me. It’s Almost Dry. That is the mood and that is the energy. I think I put out that type of energy.”

The two artist’s albums are considered two of the best that have been released this year and released within weeks of each other. When asked why the albums were so important for 2022, Push responded by saying “because we’re the best rappers.”

“I’m just talking about in a sense of being like really good rappers [laughs], fundamentally good rappers. You know that from those two artists you are getting the truth. That’s it. People know that they are getting quality. You know that you are getting taste. You know that you are getting well-thought-out compositions,” he said. I haven’t heard anybody say that they hated my album or his album. I feel like you’re gonna like both, for sure. But it’s just a matter of what you are feeling and what mood you prefer to be in.”

Push didn’t say whether he thinks K.Dot’s album is better than his or vice versa. But throughout the year Push has made it a point that It’s Almost Dry is indeed “Rap Album Of The Motherf*cking Year.

Tom Brady Calls Pusha T’s ‘It’s Almost Dry’ Album Of The Year

Tom Brady NFL

Pusha-T isn’t the only one saying that It’s Almost Dry is the album of the year.

Tom Brady used Pusha T’s Kanye-produced song “Dreaming Of The Past” as background music in a promotional video for his new apparel line, BRADY Run. Push then responded to the video, once again declaring It’s Almost Dry, rap album of the year.

“Wow, @TomBrady really listening to the rap album of the year!!!” Push Tweeted. “#ItsAlmostDry#DreamingOfThePast !! Check him out…”

Tom Brady, who in recent years has been more active on social media and developing a brand outside of football, gave Push a cosign, tweeting that the Virginia Beach MC’s latest album is in fact, “Album Of The Year!”

Push then took to Instagram where he posted Brady’s cosign, with the caption “BRADY SAID WHAT HE SAID!!”

While this might be Push’s first major cosign from someone outside of music, this certainly isn’t the first time Push has given the “album of the year” distinction to It’s Almost Dry.

During his concert at The Novo in Los Angeles, last month, Push declared his Pharrell and Kanye-produced album, “rap album of the motherf*cking year,” adding “they can’t f*ck with me!” It’s Almost Dry also became Push’s first #1 charting album having sold 50k copies in its first week.

Pusha T And No Malice Perform Together As Clipse For The First Time Since 2010 At Something In The Water

Clipse, the duo of brothers Pusha T and No Malice, enjoyed its initial run from 1992 to 2010. While the pair took some time apart in the years following, they’ve staged a bit of a reunion in recent years, which kicked off when they featured on Kanye West’s 2019 song “Use This Gospel.” They’ve since hopped on other tracks together, but before this weekend, there had not yet been a live reunion on stage.

That was actually supposed to happen at Pharrell’s Something In The Water festival in 2020, which was ultimately canceled in the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. The fest also didn’t go on in 2021 but it did finally return this weekend. While Clipse wasn’t listed on the festival lineup, they did actually stage their reunion this time around, as part of the Pharrell & Phriends set. For their time on stage (about 18 minutes), they did “Mr. Me Too,” Birdman’s “What Happened To That Boy,” “Cot Damn,” and wrapped up with “Grindin’.”

Even before this, 2022 has been a good year for Clipse. In 1999, the pair was ready to release their debut album, Exclusive Audio Footage, but it was ultimately shelved by the label. This year, though, the LP finally hit streaming services. On top of that, Pusha landed his first No. 1 album with It’s Almost Dry.

Pusha T Performs ‘Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes’ On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’

Pusha T released his new album It’s Almost Dry in April. Since then, he’s been promoting it with music videos and late-night television performances. The rapper is back with more of the latter: On Friday, he went on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform the track “Let The Smokers Shine The Coupes.”

The performance is charismatic and bright, with a kaleidoscope of colors bouncing off of him. His confidence is obvious; it’s what he’s known for. Before the release of It’s Almost Dry, he called it an “untouchable body of work,” mentioning that having Kanye West and Pharrell Williams as producers gave it a kick. He said, “I had the best of both worlds in regard to production. In regard to two people who actually understand who I am and they like two different things from me.” He added: “Just from that aspect, I feel like this body of work is untouchable because it doesn’t lean too heavily on either side. It’s like you get the whole spectrum — probably my most well-rounded body of work.” He’s definitely allowed (and right) to flex: It’s Almost Dry was his first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 chart.

Pusha-T Talks About Pharrell’s Influence On His Career: “You Taught Me Everything!”

pusha t pharrell

Pusha-T and Pharrell might go down as one of the best rapper and producer duos of all time. It’s easy to see how they have impacted each other musically, and during his recent concert in L.A., Push showed his love for the Pharrell, saying that the super-producer taught him everything.

Push went on to bring Pharrell on stage to perform their newest single “Neck & Wrist” and some of their other collaborations back from the Clipse days. To close out the set they two have each other their flowers, saying how much they have influenced each other.

“Without Pharrell, there is no ‘It’s almost Dry’,” Pusha T said. “He brought a whole different dynamic to my album, Man I love you, bro, for everything, always. You brought me in this game, you taught me everything! Everything! Clothes, dressing, what you want? You did it. Real shit, no lie.”

Pharrell then returned the gratitude to Push, saying, “Man, I am just so proud of my brother, He’s been doing this for over 20-years. Number one album in the country. Everybody has been talking about it, y’all know this is the best one. Thank you for being so supportive all these years. And you gotta know when it comes to real masterpieces, when you know you really got one, that’s the thing you say, ‘its almost dry,’”
