Each year seems to bring with it a new rap it-girl (I wrote a bit about them here) who captures fans’ attention with a flirty, dismissive hit that listeners can’t seem to get enough of. Fans on Twitter often declare these tracks “the song(s) of the summer” — even when they were released months before or even the last year.

Some recent examples include Coi Leray’s “No More Parties,” FloMilli’s “Conceited,” GloRillla’s “FNF (Let’s Go),” Ice Spice’s “Munch,” Latto’s “Big Energy,” and Lola Brooke’s “Don’t Play With It.” One of this year’s early contenders is “Pretty Girls Walk” by St. Louis rapper Big Boss Vette, which is still going strong despite being released in October of last year.

So, who is Big Boss Vette, and why is she in the running for rap’s latest it-girl?

St. Louis MC Big Boss Vette just tapped Coi Leray for a remix of her single “Pretty Girls Walk.” Moreover, it’s a creative and head-bobbing fusion of more modern percussion styles with a classic bassline that harkens back to the old days. Also, the single dropped early after various teases and social media promotions, so fans were ready for the heat. For those out there looking for a new hype track to add to their playlist, this song has a lot of braggadocious energy to it.

Furthermore, a lot of the track’s groove and appeal comes down to its incredibly catchy bass melody. When Big Boss Vette first dropped “Pretty Girls Walk,” the song sparked a viral Tik Tok debut. With thousands of fans dancing it out to “all the pretty girls walk like this,” Coi Leray took to Instagram today (February 22nd) to hint that her upcoming remix. She announced that her version of the track will drop on March 3rd. Based on the teaser, the 25-year-old rapper spits bars that add to the song’s existing girl power message. Coi complements Vette’s deeper tones with her upbeat vocals, and together the pair packs punches for this “pretty girls” anthem.

Coi posted a video of her twerking to the track, singing along to her verse. “You can talk about me but it’s gon’ make me richer,” she raps.
