Saweetie Cancels ‘Icy Season’ To Work On Her Album, Which Should Be Out By Summer

Saweetie fans have been patiently waiting for her debut album, Pretty Bitch Music, for what might seem like forever after she delayed the album multiple times despite having huge hits in “My Type,” “Tap In,” and “Best Friend.” To hold them over, she initially planned to release an EP, Icy Season, in the first quarter of 2022, but now it seems even that plan has changed — but for a good reason. In a new interview with Billboard, the Bay Area rapper explained that she nixed the EP to lock in on finishing the album, which she now says should be out by summer.

She also explains why putting out her debut album has at times seemed such a halting, laborious process. “Sometimes our hit song is bigger than us and we’re just thrown into the game,” she says. “When you get signed, the label wants a hit. They want a return on their investment, which I understand. But it’s important for artists to understand themselves before they start seeking for hits. Because if you don’t know yourself, you don’t know your music.” She also doesn’t want to rush the process, as she feels she did with 2018’s High Maintenance and 2019’s Icy, and doesn’t “want to be safe anymore. Now it’s time to experiment.”

Considering she’s reportedly got a song in Tagalog, as well as Latin collab according to Billboard, it sounds like she’s expanding what the expectations of her album should be. Hopefully, she’s able to meet her own self-imposed deadline and live up to the potential she’s shown over the past few years.

Saweetie’s Mom Isn’t Cool With Her Cursing In Tagalog On Her Upcoming Album

Saweetie’s still promoting her upcoming debut album, Pretty B*tch Music, despite delaying it after meeting Cher and attending a performance boot camp to bolster her live shows. The Bay Area rapper most recently sat down for a video interview with Billboard in which she reveals more details about the upcoming album, including the fact that some of its content upset her mom.

Apparently, Saweetie has a song that is partially in Tagalog — one of the official languages of the Philippines (Saweetie is part Filipino) — and her mom, who is Filipino and Chinese, doesn’t quite approve. “I do talk some sh*t in Tagalog,” she admits. “My mom was really against it. My Asian side, they’re very traditional — they were immigrants. So it’s like, their culture’s a little bit more reserved. So, she was just like, ‘Girl, I can’t believe you just said that!’”

The “Tap In” rapper also explains that one of the reasons for the album’s delay is how personal it is to her. She hopes it will “humanize” her in the eyes of fans who only see her as a star (albeit one with a cast-iron stomach) and tweet hurtful comments without considering their effects.

Saweetie Confirms A Release Date For ‘Pretty B*tch Music’ Through A Performance On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

It’s been a long wait for Saweetie’s official debut album Pretty B*tch Music, but at least it hasn’t been that grueling. That’s because the Bay Area act has released a number of tracks as she’s worked on finishing her opus. At long last, the project is complete, as its release date was revealed just moments before Saweetie’s performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The host of the late-night show gave a brief introduction to Saweetie before her performance of “Fast (Motion).” It was here that Kimmel revealed Pretty B*tch Music will be released on June 25. This gives fans less than a week to prepare themselves for the album’s arrival, which also lands on the same day of projects to be released by Tyler The Creator and Doja Cat.

As for the performance itself, Saweetie delivered a flashy set atop a rooftop that was riddled with flashing lights and a squad of backup dancers. Pretty B*tch Music will also arrive a little over two months after Saweetie’s most recent project, Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1.
