Quavo Says He Is Open To Doing A Gospel Album

Quavo may be delving into a new genre on a future project. The 32-year-old achieved fame as co-founder and frontman of Migos. However, the Atlanta native is still dealing with the death of his nephew and bandmate Takeoff. The 31-year-old was shot and killed at a bowling alley last year, Quavo has been open about his understandable struggles with depression since Takeoff’s death. However. he has found inspiration through his work and faith. He revealed in a recent interview that he would be open to working on a gospel project.

The revelation comes on the heels of Quavo’s acting debut. The rapper stars alongside Chloe Bailey and Anjelika Washington in the Peacock Original film Praise This. The film is centered around finding purpose and strength through faith. It is set in the competitive world of youth praise teams. Quavo recently sat down with Vibe to discuss his experience on the film and his future projects. When asked if he would continue exploring his faith through music, Quavo seemed open to the idea. “I wouldn’t mind,” he said. “I like working with gospel artists.”

Moreover, Quavo says he admires gospel artists who have used their faith to overcome similar obstacles. “I think that they feel that’s how they got it. And I got it out the mud in another different lane. But whenever we cross [paths] and get together, I think, ‘Yes, we should do something.’” Subsequently, Quavo revealed that he landed the acting role due to his relationship with the film’s producer, Will Packer. “We’re good friends,” Quavo said. “I’ve been telling him to put me in something.”

Meanwhile, the artist also enjoyed the film’s more irreverent take on religion. “It’s that kind of irreverent, a little bit of edgy movie, but it does have something to say about the fact that you don’t have to be a traditional churchgoer.” he said, Furthermore, Quavo has confirmed that his next project is a solo album called Rocket Power. The album will be a heartfelt tribute to Takeoff, Quavo hasn’t shared details about when the project will drop. However, most fans expect to be an emotional send-up to the late rapper.

Cardi B Clearly Loved A Gospel Version Of One Of Her Hits From Chlöe’s New Movie ‘Praise This’

As Chlöe’s debut solo album In Pieces finds its way onto the Billboard charts, the rising star’s new movie Praise This is now streaming on Peacock. The movie, which follows a gospel praise team as they enter a national competition, features a number of gospel covers of pop and R&B hits, including a cleaned-up version of Cardi B’s 2018 hit “Money” by contemporary Christian singer Koryn Hawthorne.

Where Cardi’s original version celebrates getting “Money,” Hawthorne adds religious messaging but keeps the spirited flow that took the original all the way to No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Hawthorne celebrated the film’s release with a tweet capturing Cardi’s reaction to hearing the remix in the studio. In the video, Cardi can be seen beaming from ear to ear as she throws her hands and sings along to the revamped lyrics.

Praise This is getting a more uniformly positive reception from fans than In Pieces did; it’s likely that the gospel-centric film resonates more strongly with the tastes of many of Chlöe’s earliest supporters. (Chlöe made her film debut in her mentor Beyoncé’s similarly gospel-inspired film Fighting Temptations, and that first impression has clearly stuck with fans who aren’t feeling the young singer’s shift to a more mainstream sound.)

Chlöe addressed that criticism recently on her hometown radio, positing that her loudest critics actually weren’t around for her and her sister Halle’s humble beginnings. The truth is, many artists often face harsh criticisms as they grow creatively, and if anything, it’s a sign that people are truly invested. That’s a good sign for Chlöe’s burgeoning career, as it means no matter what direction she decides to pursue, she’s at least guaranteed a captive audience.

Praise This is out now on Peacock. In Pieces is also out now via Parkwood Entertainment and Columbia Records. Find more information here.

Quavo And Chloe Bailey Fuel Dating Rumors At “Praise This” Premiere

With the release of Peacock’s original film Praise This just days away, the cast was treated to a red-carpet premiere. This included the film’s stars, Chloe Bailey and Quavo. Praise This follows Bailey as Sam, a wannabe superstar who joins an Atlanta-based competitive gospel choir ahead of a national competition. Praise This is the latest from Tina Gordon, the director behind films such as Peoples and Little. Gordon also wrote a similar film about an underdog team in a national competition, 2002’s Drumline. Praise This will release exclusively on Peacock on April 7.

At the premiere, Bailey posed with Quavo, who plays a character called Ty. Quavo’s appearance in the film reflects a shift towards acting for the former Migos member. Last year, Quavo appeared in the thriller Strange Salvation and has been linked to upcoming projects Takeover and Cash Out. Prior to his role in Strange Salvation, Quavo’s only film and TV credits were cameos in shows such as Atlanta. It is the latest role in a run of major projects for Bailey. She is also set to appear in the horror film The Georgetown Project, and star as the lead in the biopic Midas Touch.

Quavo x Chloe On The Red Carpet

Their work on Praise This, amongst other appearances, has led to numerous rumors that the pair are currently dating. While Bailey has denied these rumors, many fans remain unconvinced. This has led to further claims of a secret romance. These rumors are likely to be fanned further still if their characters in Praise This share some sort of romantic subplot. Trailers for the film seem to indicate that this is the case.

Dating rumors aside, Praise This will serve as a chance for both Bailey and Quavo to flex their acting muscles. It will also enable them to perform in more comedic roles. This is a contrast to the much more serious roles they have previously performed. Furthermore, with the likes of Bailey and Quavo involved, it seems to be a sure bet that if nothing else, Praise This is going to have some exceptional vocal performances.

Chlöe Addressed Whether She’s Dating ‘Really Nice Guy’ Quavo On Latto’s ‘777 Radio’

Chlöe caused a stir last week with her role in Swarm, and she’s about to drop her debut solo album, In Pieces, on Friday (March 31). Ahead of the latter, the August 2022 Uproxx cover star served as Latto’s guest for the inaugural episode of 777 Radio on Apple Music, and she gave people even more to talk about — from unfair comparisons to her sister, Halle Bailey, to unfounded (?) rumors about her and Quavo.

“The tea was that you was talking to Quavo,” Latto said in a clip circulated by The Neighborhood Talk.

“Uh oh, well, we doin’ a movie together,” Chlöe playfully responded.

When Latto suggested that the rumors are that Chlöe and Quavo’s relationship might not just be professional, Chlöe said, “I don’t know where that came from.”

“Y’all working,” Latto said.

“Yes. Working. He’s a really nice guy,” Chlöe said.

“I mean, he got dreads,” Latto noted, and Chlöe agreed, “Yeah, I like his locs. I like his locs.”

Chlöe and Quavo are both in the musical comedy Praise This due to hit Peacock on April 7.

According to Collider, Chlöe plays an aspiring musician named Sam “who is driven to achieve success in the music industry at any cost,” but she’s moved to Atlanta by her concerned father (Philip Fornah) and reluctantly joins her cousin’s praise team. Quavo is billed as having “a very prominent feature.”

Chlöe Teases First Look At Comedy Film “Praise This” Starring Quavo, Druski, Mack Wilds

Our girl is shaking things up as she’s moving forward with her film career, and it’s Chlöe’s time to shine. The multihyphenate entertainer warmed our hearts as one of the dynamic duo Chloe x Halle, and the ladies extended their talents as stars of Grown-ish. Chlöe has also been storming the charts as a solo artist while her sister prepares for the unveiling of The Little Mermaid. Halle Bailey stars in the live-action remake as the lead role of Ariel.

Meanwhile, Chlöe has been a busy bee. Today (March 6), the songbird shared a teaser for her upcoming comedy film, Praise This. The feature also stars the likes of Quavo, Druski, Tristan Wilds, and more. The storyline follows the competitive world of youth choirs looking to be respected as power vocalists who outsing the competition. This first trailer gives insight into Chlöe’s character, as the actress tackles the lead.

Chlöe portrays Sam, a woman from Los Angeles visiting her family. She’s thrust into church life, and because she’s a singer, she begins attending rehearsals with her relative’s youth choir. However, she clashes with the choir director, who doesn’t want Sam to overstep her boundaries. The choir prides itself on remaining traditional in a world where its counterparts lean toward a modern edge. Sam steps in to help them, and it all unfolds hilariously—especially Druski.

This isn’t the only production Chlöe has on the horizon; she also stars in Swarm, Donald Glover’s upcoming series. The Atlanta star previously shared that Swarm was inspired by the BeyHive and similar fanbases that go to extremes for the artists they adore. Chlöe holds a supporting role in the show, and her efforts have been applauded by those who have already received a look at the final takes.

More To Come In 2023

Last year, Chlöe spoke with Hot 97 about working with a stellar cast in Praise This. “I’ve had the blessing to be a part of really great projects that I’m passionate about, and have incredible cast (mates) as well,” she said. Check out the trailer for Praise This above. The film hits theaters on April 7.

Chlöe Shares The Trailer For Her Hilarious-Looking Peacock Music Comedy, ‘Praise This’

While plenty of attention has been rightly heaped upon Halle Bailey for her role in the upcoming Little Mermaid remake lately, her sister Chlöe is also building her filmography — albeit, via some lower-profile releases. One of those releases is Praise This, a musical comedy coming to Peacock in April. Chlöe just shared the first trailer for the film on social media, and it looks like the perfect vehicle to show off her acting and singing chops at the same time.

According to Deadline, its studio, Universal Pictures, is apparently hoping for Pitch Perfect-esque franchise potential, and judging from the trailer, it certainly appears that the acapella comedy’s DNA is part of the genetic makeup of Praise This, along with a dash of Chlöe’s mentor Beyoncé’s own gospel-based musical comedy, Fighting Temptation.

Per Collider, Bailey will portray Sam, an aspiring singer who gets shipped off to Atlanta to live with her cousin Jess, played by Anjelika Washington. There, she joins Jess’s praise team as they prepare for a singing competition. The cast also includes comedian Druski and The Wire alum Tristan “Mack” Wilds. There’s also a cameo appearance by Quavo.

Praise This is coming to Peacock on April 7, 2023. You can watch the trailer above.
