Jay-Z Snags New Platinum Certifications For Some Of His Best Songs

Jay-Z’s plaques are as shiny as his luxury watches, and he’s got a couple more of those under his belt as of Friday (August 23). Moreover, the Recording Industry Association of America gave him some new platinum certifications for some of his biggest hits. However, only one of these Hov cuts was certified platinum for the first time in this instance, that being “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me).” The other plaques here are additional multi-platinum certifications for some of his biggest hits ever that were already platinum, spanning from his early days all the way to his early-to-mid-2010s output.

Here’s the breakdown: “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem)” went double platinum and “Holy Grail” featuring Justin Timberlake went six times platinum. “99 Problems” and “No Church In The Wild” with Kanye West and featuring Frank Ocean and The-Dream are now triple platinum, whereas “Run This Town” with Ye and Rihanna is now six times platinum as well. It’s certainly due cause for Jay-Z to celebrate these days even as his legal issues with Dame Dash’s Reasonable Doubt shares continue to develop, albeit in his favor.

Jay-Z’s New Platinum Plaques

“I don’t expect anyone, just some average person, to come buy it,” Dame Dash said of his shares in this classic Jay-Z album. “Or a third of it, my third. I don’t wanna get sued again. I know, for some reason, nobody wants me to sell it. But I’m ready to just move on, do my thing. I had a lawsuit, I had a judgement, and I’m like, ‘Yo, that’s 800 grand. Go get it from over there. They not paying me neither!’ So, they went and did the work for me [to pay] that debt and I’ll be able to sell it. It all worked out for me. I’m sure there’s a little twist they put on things. I don’t know why – I do know why, but I don’t know why. I don’t know why about one thing, but I do know why about the other.

“They had some bum-a** board meeting and all of a sudden he gets first right of refusal,” Dame Dash said of Jay-Z. “I don’t really care. It don’t slow nothing down for me. Now I don’t know how deep homie’s pockets is. I’m curious if he’s gonna match that. I put an offer on the table, lemme see if he’ll match it. But it was from other people.”

Lil Uzi Vert Finally Surpasses This Milestone With “Pink Tape”

Lil Uzi Vert’s Pink Tape was one of the biggest rap albums of last year, and even though it took a long time, it’s finally got its long-awaited seven-figure plaque to show for it. Moreover, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified its diamond status on Friday (August 9) after selling over one million album-equivalent units a little over a year after its release. Not only that, but the organization also certified the project’s biggest single, “Just Wanna Rock,” as quadruple platinum on the same day. But don’t forget about other highlights like “S***ide Doors,” “Fire Alarm” featuring Snow Strippers, “Nakamura,” and many more.

In other Lil Uzi Vert news, Boosie Badazz wasn’t too happy about his Marc Jacobs campaign appearance. “I was pissed,” he told DJ Vlad on VladTV. “Before he was all doing that, I was kind of f***ing with him. I just don’t agree with all his, like, s**t these men be doing out here. How’s somebody ever going to raise a strong young man when you’re looking like a strong young woman? All these men who need to do that, your child looking at you. One day your child might ask you, ‘Daddy, why you got on nail polish and all this stuff like mommy?’ What you do follows you.”

Lil Uzi Vert’s New Platinum Plaques

Elsewhere, Lil Uzi Vert also promised that Eternal Atake 2 is on the cards, which some fans are very excited about. We say “some” because other die-hards are still waiting on Barter 16, Luv Is Rage 3, and other projects that the Philly star teased over the past two years or so. Will any of these LPs eventually manifest or will we need to wait even longer for their next full-length effort? We shall see…

Meanwhile, we know that Lil Uzi Vert’s relationship with JT is still going strong, which continues to hearten a lot of fans. The former City Girl recently dropped a new project of her own, so we’ll see if her boo follows suit. Regardless, at least Pink Tape still carries some steam to hold fans over. Hopefully, it isn’t the only thing that they drop in the mid-2020s.

Latto & Cardi B Go Platinum With “Put It On Da Floor Again”

Latto and Cardi B’s 2023 summer banger “Put It On Da Floor Again” has gone platinum, according to Complex. Released in June 2023, the track was a Cardi-infused remix of Latto’s April hit. While the original track only peaked at No. 25 on the Billboard Bubbling Under chart, the addition of Cardi saw the remix peak at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100. Furthermore, the remix was widely praised by critics. “Cardi matches and then exceeds Latto’s energy. Once again, Cardi is endlessly quotable,” Tom Breihan of Stereogum wrote.

Furthermore, the high-energy video was full of brief cameos as Cardi and Latto twerked and flexed across a variety of retail outlets. Offset and BabyDrill both made an appearance, as did LSU’s Angel Reese. Additionally, Cardi name-dropping the 2023 NCAA National Champions led the school to invite her to campus.

Latto’s Belly Reference In “Sunday Service” Music Video Debated By Fans

Meanwhile, another of Latto’s tracks has a music video that is being hotly debated by fans. Latto appears bathed in neon blue light with glowing iridescent irises during a brief segment of the “Sunday Service” music video. The shot pays homage to a similar one in 1998’s Belly. While it is a striking shot, not everyone online is impressed. Some fans argued that Latto shouldn’t be praised for a reference that has been done countless times before. For example, JT had previously made the same reference to much less acclaim. Meanwhile, other fans argued that Latto was too light-skinned to make full use of the effect as seen in the original film.

However, of course, her diehard fanbase was there to defend the impressive shot. Along with calling it “iconic”, they argued that no one person has a monopoly on film references. Furthermore, something as iconic as Belly is going to receive countless homages, especially in hip-hop culture. Things inevitably got heated online over the issue. How do you feel about the reference? Let us know in the comments.

Kanye West Receives Four New Platinum Certifications From The RIAA

Kanye West is allegedly going to drop Vultures with Ty Dolla $ign this year, as unlikely and controversial as it seems. Although it’s been a hectic, often scrutinized, rightfully criticized, but still engaging few years for him, his older catalog and even recent hits still get so much love from the community. If you want evidence of that, look no further than Ye’s four new platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America. They recently confirmed some new plaques, all of which represent his songs– and one album– that sold over one million units again, as they continue to rake in numbers after reaching this milestone at least once before.

Furthermore, these new accolades include Kanye West’s album Graduation, which was just certified seven times platinum. As far as songs, these are “All Of The Lights” from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010), also seven times platinum, “Runaway” off of the same project, and “Follow God” off of Jesus Is King (2019). Respectively, these songs went five and two times platinum. In fact, this isn’t the only commercial resurgence that the 46-year-old experienced as of late, as his 2016 LP The Life Of Pablo recently re-entered the Billboard 200 chart.

Kanye West’s New Platinum Certifications

Despite everything he does to put his career and reputation in a grave, the weight of his talents and astonishments is too heavy to lessen. While there is still plenty of potential for Kanye West to come back with more amazing material, fans are also very grateful with what we’ve gotten so far. Some would rather that he stop at this point, especially as his inner circle and key artistic tenants seem so far away from him. For example, Pusha T allegedly blasted his former G.O.O.D. Music partner in reportedly leaked text messages.

Meanwhile, with his Hebrew apology to the Jewish community for his antisemitism in mind, there is hope that he will revert his regressions into bigotry. But we never quite know with Kanye, do we? All we can hope for right now is that he focuses on his career, craft, and artistry rather than his public perception or feuds. On that note, stay posted on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Kanye West.

J. Cole Racks Up A Massive Amount Of RIAA Certifications

J. Cole’s discography is stacked with hits. However, what is a little more impressive is that a great deal of them are more on the lyrical side. He certainly has some of the more thought-provoking tracks over the past 10 years or so. All of this hard work and talented craftsmanship has led to an ultra-successful career. What has really solidified Cole’s stature within hip-hop lore has been his incredible run over the past couple of years. 2021 saw him return after a three-year solo album hiatus. The Off-Season provided so many memorable tracks.

“9 5 . s o u t h,” “a m a r i,” “m y . l i f e,” and so many others all provide something unique to the table. Then, after that, his feature run was absolutely incredible. He teamed up with Travis Scott, BIA, Young Thug, Drake, the list goes on and on. What is criminal about all of this, is that he has not grabbed a number-one hit until this year with “First Person Shooter.” While he was appreciative of the moment, it was not solely his song. However, you can argue he made the track what it is.

Gunna’s “fukumean” Goes Platinum

One of the biggest rap hits of the year can now officially claim that tile, as the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recently issued a platinum certification to Gunna’s “fukumean.” Moreover, the song is a standout on his 2023 album a Gift & a Curse, which was his comeback to the rap game after his plea deal in the YSL RICO case. That being said, it’s not like this was the only successful track on the album; far from it, in fact. For example, the project itself recently received a gold certification from the RIAA, marking it as one of the year’s most commercially significant. The cultural significance of it for 2023 can’t be understated, either, as this song and LP represent a lot.

Furthermore, many thought that the College Park MC would fall off after his brief prison stint. Some just didn’t think he had a career after this, while others pointed towards his alleged “snitching” in the case as a prime reason to shun him. Regardless of where you fall on that spectrum, it’s clear that Gunna’s not going anywhere anytime soon. “fukumean” still gets spins like wildfire, and amid a lot of other tracks that address his situation, this one proved he still makes bangers.

However, maybe this phase of Wunna’s career won’t be what truly defines his post-RICO renaissance; it could just be the beginning. For example, an upcoming remix of Victor Thompson’s “This Year” has fans very excited for what he’ll do next. Gunna debuted the Afrobeats remix during his most recent live show in Los Angeles, and fans absolutely love this new direction for him. While he’s very well-known for his woozy, laid-back, and flow-heavy brand of trap, it looks like we’ll be getting more versatile material from him very soon.

Meanwhile, it’s safe to say that “fukumean” will remain relevant in the year’s last few months. We have a lot of big releases to look forward to, but that guitar loop and flute-assisted atmosphere is too infectious to ignore. Let’s just hope that there are more heaters like this in store in the future, regardless of what genre it occupies. On that note, stay posted on HNHH for the latest news and updates on Gunna.

Outkast Officially Has The First 13x Platinum Rap Album

Outkast isn’t only one of the best and most influential rap acts of all time, but they’re also one of the most popular. Earlier this year Billboard did a countdown of the best rap groups of all time that had both fans and artists debating. Right at the very top was Outkast, which the publication named as the best rap group of all time. Some fans came out to say that Wu-Tang Clan should have taken the cake. But plenty of others, including Rakim, had no complaints about the choice of the ATL legends at the top spot.

To go with their major critical achievement, the pair have also hit a major new commercial milestone. Their 2003 album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below was officially certified 13x platinum. That achievement means that by the RIAA’s count, the album has officially sold 13 million copies. While that’s an impressive achievement on its own, it gets even more remarkable when compared to other rap albums. The project is now officially the highest-selling rap album of all time, surpassing Eminem’s 2002 project The Eminem Show which was certified 12x Platinum last year.

The certification comes at a good time as the duo are celebrating the 20th anniversary Speakerboxxx/The Love Below. Big Boi took to social media to discuss the Grammy-winning album’s success and show off the new plaque they received for selling 13 million copies.

Outkast is also celebrating the 25th anniversary of their equally beloved 1998 album Aquemini. To celebrate they shared a new animated music video for the deep cut “SpottieOttieDopalicious.” The video racked up over 50k views in the first few days since it was released. Fans still have a lot of love for the duo and continue to wait for a reunion, even though it’s repeatedly been shut down.
