Tim Legler has built a great career out of being a respected studio analyst. The former NBA sharpshooter always brings his A-game to the studio desk when discussing the game. On Tuesday, Legler joined the crew on ESPN‘s ‘First Take‘ to talk about the league. Including the future of the Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers were stacked with talent this past season. However, a team with two NBA MVPs came up short of appearing in the Eastern Conference Finals. A season that could be looked at as a failure.

For Legler, he doesn’t believe the Sixers will do anything greater than they already have. “[James Harden] disappears in 4th quarter of games where he doesn’t want any part of that moment… Joel Embiid’s body language shows it every time James Harden looks like that… He saw the same thing with Ben Simmons.” Harden did disappear in vital moments during the Sixers elimination game against the Boston Celtics. Philadelphia fans know all too well how painful it is to see a superstar not show up in the big moments.

Where Do The 76ers Stand In The NBA Hierarchy?

While Legler torched Harden’s recent play, he still offered an answer to the franchise’s issue. Legler believes the franchise already has its next star on the team. Tyrese Maxey blossomed in this past season’s playoff run for Philadelphia. Legler isn’t the only one shouting praises for the young guard. However, Legler does feel that Maxey will never reach his full potential with Harden on the roster. As painful as it may sound, moving on from Harden is starting to make more sense as the days go on.

In a move anticipated by many, the Philadelphia 76ers have fired head coach Doc Rivers.

The firing comes two days after the Sixers were blown out by the Boston Celtics 112-88 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, ending their season.

“Doc is one of the most successful coaches in NBA history, a future Hall of Famer, and someone I respect immensely,” 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey said in a statement. “We’re grateful for all he did in his three seasons here and thank him for the important impact he made on our franchise. After having the chance to reflect upon our season, we decided that certain changes are necessary to further our goals of competing for a championship.”

The Sixers are expected to look through a pool of Mike D’Antoni, Nick Nurse, Mike Budenholzer, Monty Williams, and more as candidates. Budenholzer, Williams, and Nurse were fired at the start of their respective offseasons.

Doc Rivers is a head coach who has been hit with a lot of slander in the past. Overall, this is mostly due to the fact that his teams always lose spectacularly in the postseason. Although he does have an NBA title to his name, he has been part of some historic collapses. From 3-1 blown leads to various other breakdowns, Rivers has seen it all. Consequently, there has been this narrative amongst fans that he isn’t a good coach. Instead, he is a product of the Boston Celtics super team from 2008.

Having said that, fans came to his defense after the Sixers lost to the Celtics in Game 7 of the second round over the weekend. Typically, fans would roast Doc Rivers. However, James Harden and Joel Embiid were so bad that it was not his fault. It could have been any coach and those two would have found a way to stink it up. Regardless, Rivers has been made the scapegoat by the franchise. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Rivers was fired by the team today.

Doc Rivers Is On The Market

Once again, Doc Rivers will become a coaching free agent. However, it remains to be seen whether or not he will get another job. He has had numerous chances over the years and has yet to replicate that success from 2008. Although, there are plenty of teams who could use a new head coach. The Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks are some teams that immediately come to mind. That said, Rivers will likely want to take some time off to reassess some things. After all, it was a stressful season that ended in the complete opposite way the team was hoping.

Moreover, this is going to be an interesting offseason for the Sixers. There is this belief that James Harden is going to leave the team. That means the Sixers are going to need to find a new star to pair with James Harden. If they can’t find that, then this team is going to see a huge regression. James Harden had himself an incredible night on Monday. His Philadelphia 76ers were taking on the Boston Celtics in what should have been an easy Celtics win. Overall, Joel Embiid was out of the lineup, and Harden had to carry by himself. In the end, that is exactly what he did as he scored a whopping 45 points. Although Jayston Tatum had 39 points of his own, the Sixers were able to come through with the unlikely win. However, it wasn’t just Harden’s play that ultimately stole the show.

If you know anything about James Harden, it’s that he has made some very bizarre fashion choices over the years. Every time he gets dressed before a game, he thinks about how he can get fans riled up. On Monday, that was most definitely the case. Overall, his outfit was wild and he immediately went viral for it. That said, it seems like the outfit proved to be a good luck charm. We know this because he subsequently went out and had one of his best Playoff games in years.

Joel Embiid Receives Injury Update For Game 1 Vs. Boston

Joel Embiid has had an incredible season. The Sixers superstar is more than likely winning his first MVP award. However, the playoffs have become a different breed. Embiid suffered an injury during the team’s opening-round series with the Brooklyn Nets. A hard spill on the court had Embiid nursing his back until he was pulled from the game. Luckily for the Sixers, the team was able to take down the Nets in the potential MVP’s absence. However, the chances of Embiid starting the second round don’t sound promising.

NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski spoke about the injury during a segment on NBA Today on Monday. Here is what Wojnarowski had to say on the Philly big man’s availability. “I’m told that Joel Embiid is unlikely to play in Game 1 against the Celtics tonight in Boston… There has been improvement and I’m told there is optimism that he could make his return for Game 2 on Wednesday.” So it looks as if the Sixers will be massive gun down when they start their series with the Celtics on Monday night.

I’ll say this, but if I was a betting man, I would probably say doubtful for at least Game 1. But we’ll see.” That is far from the news that Sixers fans wanted to hear about their star. A healthy Embiid would be vital to overcoming the Celtics, who finished ahead of the Sixers in the regular season. When asked when Embiid might be ready to play, Rivers had a similar dry response. “He has to get better,” was the simple response.

If Embiid does miss Game 1, bench center Paul Reed will likely join the starting five. “I keep the same mental preparation and physical preparation as I would even if he was playing,” Reed said. “I won’t change up what I’m doing any differently. Colin Cowherd is making waves with his latest comments on Sixers star James Harden. On Tuesday’s episode of Herd w/Colin Cowherd, the radio host went at Harden’s struggles in the opening round series with the Brooklyn Nets.
