EXCLUSIVE: Pardison Fontaine On Sexyy Red: “She’s A Workaholic, She Stays In The Studio”

Pardison Fontaine On Sexyy Red: “She’s A Workaholic, She Stays In The Studio”

Pardison Fontaine just shut down his New York show at SOB’s, and now, he’s bringing that same energy to Los Angeles.

Hailing from Newburgh, New York, Pardison Fontaine is a rapper and songwriter who’s best known for his breakout single “Backin’ It Up” featuring Cardi B. The song peaked at #40 on the Billboard Hot 100, with the official music video currently hailing over 197 million views and counting.

Fast forward to 2024, Pardison is finally back in the groove of releasing new music. Last year, he dropped off his highly-anticipated SEXT8PE, which arrived on the heels of “Thee Woman” — a diss track in response to his ex Megan Thee Stallion. But Pardi isn’t here for the gossip or drama, he wants to keep things positive and focus on his artistry the best way he knows how.

The Source spoke with Pardison Fontaine a few moments before he performed his Los Angeles show at the Peppermint Club.

What was the moment you fell in love w/ Hip-Hop?

Probably “Hey Little Mama. Why you dance so funky?” [The Puppies’ “Funky Y-2-C”] It was a song I used to see on BET. I was fucking too young to be singing that song. I used to sing it and get in trouble. That, and I remember hearing “Sipping on gin and juice.” ‘Cause I used to ride with my uncle. Those are the first two songs I’ve ever heard I was like yo, this is fire.

Who’s your Top 5 all time?

Hip-Hop artists?

It doesn’t have to be.

Aw shit, that made it even more difficult. But Hip-Hop, for me I’ma go Big. I’ma go DMX. I’ma go Lil Wayne, and Kanye.

Best memory from doing “Backin’ It Up” with Cardi B? You know that’s my jam.

Just seeing the reaction. That’s why I got into music, to see people react to it. See people fall in love with it. I saw the impact that it had, and how many times girls are saying they shouldn’t be “paused on the FaceTime.” Seeing people take that and run with it was the best part for me.

How’d you tap in with Sexyy Red?

With Sexyy Red? She’s a fucking workaholic first off. She’s a workaholic, she stays in the studio. I happened to be in Miami. I’m like what you doing? Met in the studio. We played a couple of records. We played a few for her, a few for me. We did one together.

You made “Sexyy & Conceited” from scratch?

We made it from scratch that day. We decided to go back and forth, it was tough.

Where’s the video?

I do got it. I should release it. I got it though. I got the harddrive. When the official music video comes out, I’ll send y’all the video of how we created it too.

Why Did Pardi Diss Megan Thee Stallion?

Breakups can be difficult. For celebrities, they can be even more tricky because they happen in public. Over the last week, rappers Megan Thee Stallion and Pardison Fontaine (also known as Pardi) split has been the most discussed romantic fallout in hip-hop.

In her latest single, “Cobra,” Megan alleged that infidelity on Pardi’s end contributed to their downfall. “Pulled up, caught him cheatin’, gettin’ his d*ck sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’,” she rapped. After being flooded with fan reactions, Pardi issued a response track of his own. So, why did Pardi diss Megan? According to Pardi’s latest song, “Thee Person,” it was to clear his name.

“After watching people drag your name. And talk about you in unfavorable ways. In order to get attention and clicks,” said Pardi in the song’s introduction. “I never thought you would do something like that to me. Oh, I’d like to apologize for no longer keeping up with your lies or supporting your habits to tell half-truths.”

Later in the song, Pardi seemed to confirm that he stepped outside the relationship. But in his words, it didn’t happen in the way Megan recounted. “Hire detectives, girl, you the feds / Not in your house, not in your bed / You lyin’ to people, you sick in the head,” rapped Pardi.

Who Is Megan Thee Stallion’s ‘Cobra’ About?

Megan Thee Stallion politely requested that her Hotties “stop trying” to guess what her next single, “Cobra,” would sound like because “y’all are not gonna be able to guess.” Within the same post, Meg also shared, “I spilled my guts on this song, I helped produce this song, I’m just so proud of it.” When “Cobra” arrived this morning, November 3, Hotties no longer had to guess about the song’s sonic contents, but now, they’ve shifted into hypothesizing who “Cobra” is about.

In the accompanying “Cobra” video, Megan Thee Stallion emerges from inside of a cobra after saying, “Just as a snake sheds its skin, we must shed our past over and over again.” Once she’s standing on her own two feet, she shreds everyone who has done her wrong. If you’ve been paying attention over the last three-ish years, that’s a lengthy list.

Who Is “Cobra” About?

Disclaimer: We don’t know. We can’t know unless Megan Thee Stallion explicitly says whom “Cobra” is based upon. She’s endured an overwhelming amount of people projecting opinions onto her, especially after Tory Lanez was alleged to have shot her in her feet in July 2020.

That said, it would appear that the majority of “Cobra” finds Meg venting about how she navigated Lanez’s abuse toward her — evidenced by brave and vulnerable bars like “Breakin’ down, and I had the whole world watchin’ / But the worst part is really who watched me / Every night I cried, I almost died / And nobody close tried to stop it” or “Yes, I’m very depressed / How can somebody so blessed wanna slit they wrist?”

For reference, Meg testified during Lanez’s trial, in part, “I can’t even be happy. I can’t hold conversations with people for a long time. I don’t feel like I want to be on this earth. I wish he would have just shot and killed me, if I knew I would have to go through this torture” (as NPR relayed last December).

Lanez was found guilty on three felony counts (assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence) and is serving a 10-year prison sentence.

Additionally, there’s this: “Damn, I got problems / Never thought a b*tch like me would ever hit rock bottom / Man, I miss my parents, way too anxious, always cancel my plans / Pulled up, caught him cheatin’, gettin’ his d*ck sucked in the same spot I’m sleepin’.” People were quick to assume that those bars were reserved for her ex, Pardison “Pardi” Fontaine.

Megan Thee Stallion is excited to be independently releasing “Cobra” (and her presumed forthcoming album — her first since August 2022’s Traumazine) after she and her former label, 1501 Certified Entertainment, “mutually reached a confidential settlement to resolve their legal differences” (as reported by Billboard). Did Megan Thee Stallion & Pardi Break Up?

Megan Thee Stallion is enjoying her hot girl summer. Based on recent paparazzi captured photos, the “Savage” rapper might be enjoying it with new arm candy. But, after being stopped out with Belgian soccer player Romelu Lukaku, fans are wondering when did Megan Thee Stallion and Pardi break up?

Rumors of the musical pair’s split first hit the net around Valentine’s Day. However, earlier this month, Pardi’s poetry performance at Da Poetry Lounge in Los Angeles made supporters believe the two had reconciled.

After dedicating the piece to seemingly dedicated to the Houston Hottie or, as he stated, “another beautiful woman that I know,” that would’ve been a safe bet.

“You’re a survivor but not a victim, somewhere in between ‘God forgive him’ and ‘I gotta get him / That’s why you don’t ever let these bitches get you out your rhythm/ You treat these n*****s like they’re buy one get one/ You out here working to keep your mind off hurting,” said Pardi during the set.

It doesn’t appear that his heartfelt lyrics did much to spark a public response from the rapper. Across both entertainers’ Instagram profiles, any evidence of their relationship has been removed. If the duo officially called it quits, the couple dated for over two years.

Pardison Fontaine Seemingly Shares A Valentine’s Day Picture With Megan Thee Stallion Amid Breakup Rumors

It appears that we can finally put rumors of Megan Thee Stallion‘s and Pardison Fontaine‘s breakup to rest. Today (February 14), Pardi shared a picture of two hands on Instagram, one appearing to belong to him and one appearing to belong to Meg, taking heart-shaped shots on his story.

Last week, rumors began circulating that the two had broken up after fans noticed the two unfollowed each other on social media.

Though neither of the two issued any comment regarding a rumored break-up, Pardi seemingly responded to the rumors, joking that he got “da boot,” while modeling those viral red MSCHF boots on the ‘gram.

Though neither party’s face can be seen in the story posted today, several of Meg’s fans are convinced that the hand pictured is hers, as they recognized her fabulous nails.

“Pardi posted Meg’s nail,” said one fan, “so maybe Tmrw we might get to finally see her and see some bday drip.”

Megan hasn’t shared any new music, guested on anyone’s songs, or made any public appearances in months. She also hasn’t posted to social media during that time.

So, as one could expect, fans were excited to get some sort of sign that Megan appears to be happy and well.

“Pardi posted Meg’s hand and that’s all I need from her until she’s ready,” said another fan. “Just glad to know my bby is alive.”
