Pam Grier Reveals That Cardi B Is Giving Her Pole Dance Lessons

Pam Grier is a pop culture icon. The actress all but defined blaxploitation films in the 1970s courtesy of classics like Coffy (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974). Her influence on female rappers is second to none, so it seems fitting that she would eventually learn from one of these rappers. During a recent appearance on Watch What Happens with Andy Cohen, Grier revealed that she’s learning to pole dance. The best part? Grier’s teacher is none other than superstar and former dancer Cardi B.

Grier told the late night host that she wrote a film script for Cardi B and herself back in 2022. It has not been picked up yet, but the actress hopes it will be once she’s done making the biopic series about her life. “As soon as I finish that, I really wanted to work with her,” she noted. “And it could be in maybe two years at the theater ‘cause I’m now learning how to pole dance.” The actress, 74, admitted that it’s been a tricky skill to master. Fortunately, she has Cardi as a mentor. I’m the pole dancer,” Grier revealed. “And she teaches me.”

Cardi B would relish the opportunity to show her dancing skills on the big screen. She had a brief role in the critically acclaimed drama Hustlers (2019), but she told iHeartRadio that she was unable to “shine” as much as she wanted to. “I just got my t**ties done and I got lipo,” she told the outlet. “So I was like, ‘This is my moment to shine, and I can’t shine because I can’t climb!’ I was mad. Everybody thinks it’s so easy to do. No it ain’t. You can’t do it at home.”

Pam Grier is enthusiastic about getting her script made, but she kept the details of the story under wraps. “It’s taking a minute, but it’s a lot of fun,” she explained to Andy Cohen. “But it’s a wonderful story.” The actress threw an additional compliment Cardi’s way by noting that her maternal instincts will play a role in the story. “I don’t want to give it away,” she added. “But it’s perfect for her because she’s a great mom.” Cardi B is currently working on her sophomore album, while Grier was last seen in the 2023 horror flick Pet Sematary: Bloodlines.

Pam Grier Wants To Make Drake “Blush”

Pam Grier has invited Drake to the Toronto Black Film Festival in hopes of making the rapper “blush.” Grier spoke to The Canadian Press about her interest in an interview with the rapper. “He grew up on me. I want to know what magazine he was looking at when he was thinking of me. Or he wasn’t telling the truth, but I don’t know him as someone who is not truthful, so it would be interesting to ask him. He’ll blush,” Grier said. Her comments referenced Drake’s 2010 interview with Nardwaur, where Drizzy admitted Grier “shaped his taste in women.”

Elsewhere, Grier said she made Snoop Dogg faint the first time she met him. “His heart started racing and he became overheated and over-anxious at the airport lounge and when we got on the plane to Vancouver. We started talking in the lounge, and he said, ‘Wait a minute. I gotta go to the men’s room.’ He goes into the men’s room and he faints. Security had to come in and get him and wipe him off. He told me he fainted, but I didn’t believe him,” she recalled.

Is Drake Dropping A “Rich Baby Daddy” Video?

Meanwhile, Drake could be dropping a music video for “Rich Baby Daddy”. At least that’s what fans think based on the rapper’s social media. Images of Sexyy Red and SZA on Drizzy’s Instagram Story have led fans to believe that Drake could be hyping a potential music video for the For All The Dogs track. Of course, Drake will be eager to steer the conversation around him back towards his music. Snoop Dogg is one of the most famous people on the planet, but even he isn’t immune to getting star struck. During his appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show to talk about his new movie The Underdoggs, Snoop recounted the time he met one of his favorite film stars and fainting from the butterflies in his stomach.

“We was doing a movie, Bones,” he explained. “This is young Snoop. I’m young at the time. They tell me I got the role with Pam Grier.” At this point, he demonstrates his excitement with a dance. “Catch the flight from Frisco to Vancouver. So, when I get to Frisco I’m sitting down and Pam Grier walk up and just sit right next to me and started talking to me. My heart was beating fast, Jen. So, I’m like, ‘I hear what you’re saying, Pam. Give me a minute.’ I go to the bathroom and faint.”

He says he eventually recovered after some assistance. “I’m laying on the ground. My security come in. They like, ‘Get off this nasty floor, man. What is you doing?’ I’m like, I looked up I said: ‘Cuz, I just met Pam Grier.’” But it wasn’t all bad. Snoop says Grier gave him “information on how to be a better actor, a better person, and how to receive people like this who you are infatuated with. So, I thanked her for that and I believe I became a better actor after that. So, Pam, I love you for that. And I appreciate you.”

Bones is a 2001 supernatural horror film in which Snoop played the eponymous character, a numbers runner who is killed by rival criminals but comes back to life via mysterious means. Grier plays his lover Pearl, who attempts to lay his soul to rest. The film features numerous homages to Snoop’s favorite 1970s Blaxploitation films, many of which Grier starred in, sparking his initial infatuation.

Pam Grier Is Writing A Movie For Her And Cardi B, Shares Advice For Megan Thee Stallion

If there’s one thing that we always love to see in the industry, it’s legends supporting legends. Recently, Foxy Brown actress Pam Grier has been doing a whole lot of that. Specifically, she’s showing love to two of the biggest names in the female rap game today.

The 73-year-old joined Rolling Stone for an interview. During, she revealed that she’s got some particularly exciting things in the works. Among them is yet another movie to add to her already impressive filmography, which boasts titles like Friday Foster, Coffy, and Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown.

What sets this upcoming role apart, though, is that Grier herself is writing it, and she has plans to star alongside another famous face. “I’m writing something for me and Cardi B,” she told journalist Rob Sheffield, noting that she’s specifically a fan of the song “WAP.”

She didn’t dish any further on the movie in collaboration with Bardi, though she was quick to shift the conversation to Megan Thee Stallion while on the topic of their salacious single. “I love Megan Thee Stallion. I told her, ‘You and your artistry are beautiful,’” she recalled.

“‘People are gonna punk you because a stallion is a male horse. There’s some really foxy mares!” was the rest of the advice Grier had for the Houston native. “She’s really good. She went to college,” the older woman further praised her young friend.

Afterward, the North Carolina-born entertainer spoke candidly about how women in the industry are criticized. “You got to have your goals. You’re gonna have haters, you’re gonna have jealousy. Just do your art, do your passion from your heart,” she told Rolling Stone.

“[Megan] and Lizzo and Nicki Minaj and some of the others, they know — you gotta make your own style. You get to hire people later. But you come up with your own stuff, then you just draw people like a magnet. Collaborators make you greater and greater. I want them to find that.”

Pam Grier Says She’s Writing A Movie Role For Cardi B And Has Some Advice For Megan Thee Stallion

A ’70s blaxploitation film icon from classics like Foxy Brown and Coffy, Pam Grier found new life in Quentin Tarantino’s 1997 Jackie Brown. Since then, it’s much more than just boomers who understand what an important figure Grier was for Black women in film.

She’s now the focus of the fourth season of TCM’s The Plot Thickens podcast and Grier settled in with Rolling Stone’s Rob Sheffield to talk about her legacy and ongoing ambitions. Among them, Grier revealed that she’s scheming to be on the big screen with Cardi B and expressed her reverence for other Black women who are crossing over from music to the silver screen.

“I’m writing something for me and Cardi B,” Grier said when asked about being a touchstone for today’s cross-generational icons. “I love Cardi and ‘WAP.’ I love Megan Thee Stallion. I told her, ‘You and your artistry are beautiful. People are gonna punk you because a stallion is a male horse, but there’s some really foxy mares!’

“She’s really good. She went to college,” she said about Megan, before expanding into her thoughts on other stars. “You got to have your goals. You’re gonna have haters, you’re gonna have jealousy, but just do your art, do your passion from your heart. She [Megan] and Lizzo and Nicki Minaj and some of the others, they know — you gotta make your own style. You get to hire people later. But you come up with your own stuff, then you just draw people like a magnet, so collaborators make you greater and greater. I want them to find that.”

Grier, who also played music with Sly Stone and Jimi Hendrix, also cited working with Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson as moments that shaped her into a well-rounded artist and added one last bit of advice for Cardi, Meg, Nicki, Lizzo, and others: “But any kind of artist, you’re like a musician, and you don’t know if you’re gonna be heard 40, 50 years later. This music may not be passed on by other artisans. But it’s nice if your music is still played generations later.”
