Robert Glasper’s Run Is Far From ‘Over’ As Shown In His Stellar Performance On ‘Colbert’ Along With Yebba

Still basking in the glow of his Grammy Award win for Best R&B Album, critically acclaimed musician Robert Glasper made a guest appearance on The Late Show hosted by Stephen Colbert. With a full supporting band and featured vocalist Yebba, the musicians delivered a special performance of their track, “Over” off Glasper’s award-winning album Black Radio III.

Although the track wasn’t a featured single, (that designation belongs to “Black Superheroes” featuring Killer Mike, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Big KRIT), fans quickly latched on the song. Yebba’s buttery vocals and Glasper’s masterful skills on the piano, while providing clear sonic guidance for the supporting band, demonstrates just why he is so revered. Their performance of the track on The Late Show was nothing less than spectacular.

Black Radio III, as the title shows, is the third installment of the musical series Glasper began ten years ago. As an episodic project, Black Radio blends together elements of jazz, rap, hip-hop, and R&B a musical tightrope Glasper has walked his entire career.

When asked about the legacy of the musical series, Glasper said, “Black Radio was always intended as an ongoing project, evolving over time, perhaps never complete but anchored in its creative commitment to celebrating black music,” adding, “The supreme edition of Black Radio III brings more new songs that have deeply personal meaning to me and are too special to not share with the world.”

Lucky Daye Brings The Lovelorn ‘Over’ To ‘The Tonight Show’ For A Stirring Performance

Lucky Daye is just a few days removed from completing his tour in support of his sophomore album Candypaint. The New Orleans singer set out on the road for a string of shows that kicked off in mid-March. West Coast singer Joyce Wrice also accompanied him on the tour. Daye’s final stop on the Candypaint Tour was in New York City and it appears that he used that opportunity to also give a performance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. There, Daye delivered a stirring performance of highlight record “Over,” one that accounts for his struggles with moving on from an inconsistent partner.

This year has been a pretty big one for Daye so far. He earned his first entry on the Billboard 200 with Candypaint which peaked at No. 69. Daye also earned his first entry on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Over,” a record that peaked at No. 77 earlier this month. However, Daye’s most exciting moment in 2022 came when he earned his first Grammy award for a win in the Best Progressive R&B album category thanks to his Table For Two EP.

Candypaint is out now via RCA and Keep Cool. You can stream it here.

Lucky Daye Navigates A Confusing Love With Jordyn Woods In His Stylish Video For ‘Over’

Lucky Daye kicked off 2021 by releasing his third EP, Table For Two, which features six duets with female singers, including Ari Lennox, Yebba, Joyce Wrice, and more. The singer has stayed quiet on the solo side of things since then, but he’s also dropped an impressive collection of guest verses. On Wednesday, he returned to the solo route with his brand new single, “Over.”

The luscious track captures he and his partner — played by Jordyn Woods — caught up in a confusing relationship that finds them on-and-off-again. “Over” also arrives with an excellently shot video, in which Daye experiences a bad dream multiple times before breaking out of the cycle.

The new song comes after Daye connected with Sevyn Streeter for “Feelz,” off her sophomore album, Drunk Wordz Sober Thoughtz. It’s one of many strong collaborations that Daye has been a part of this year. Others include “You Want My Love” with Earth, Wind & Fire, a remix of “Slow Down” with VanJess, and “Make You Feel Good” with BJ The Chicago Kid.

Daye recently performed at HER’s Lights On Festival in California and is set to appear on stage at the showcase’s second iteration in Brooklyn, NY.
