J. Cole, 21 Savage, Drake, & More Nominated At iHeartRadio Music Awards

Drake, 21 Savage, and more top rappers lead the 2024 iHeartRadio Music Award nominations for hip-hop artists. Boosie Badazz Has A Theory On His Lack Of Award Nominations

Boosie Badazz is no stranger to airing his unfiltered opinions online, but according to the Louisiana native, it doesn’t come without a cost. Last week, the hitmaker took to social media to share his theory on why he doesn’t get nominated for as many awards as he deserves. He claims that while his musical abilities are undeniable, his outspokenness may be a bit too much for those in charge.

He shared a couple of clips from his “Rocket Man” and “Black & Beautiful” music videos on Thursday alongside his theory. “ROCKETMAN N BLACK AND BEAUTIFUL,” he wrote. “DO YALL THINK MY MUSIC DONT GET NOMINATED FOR AWARDS BECAUSE I KEEP IT REAL AND SPEAK MY MIND ON THINGS THAT I DONT AGREE WITH??? BECAUSE NOBODY MAKES MUSIC LIKE BOOSIE[.] DO WE NOT CHERISH BLACK WOMEN ANYMORE? LISTEN TO THE LYRICS ON ROCKETMAN.”

Boosie Badazz Thinks It’s Because He Speaks His Mind

Boosie’s social media antics and frequent chats with DJ Vlad have gotten him in some hot water in the past. This is particularly true when it comes to his kids. At the beginning of December, for example, his take on his daughter’s new relationship earned the personality quite a bit of backlash. “You can cheat on her, but don’t beat on her,” Boosie said of the 21-year-old. “Just don’t hit her n***a. Love her, I don’t give a f*ck what you do. Just don’t hit her.”

While some found his comments concerning, he was quick to clap back, urging critics to reflect on their own parents’ behavior before questioning his. “WHAT RAPPER [YOU] KNOW GOT MULTIPLE BABY MOMMAS N THEY KIDS ALL GREW UP LOVING EACH OTHER, TRAVELING WITH EACH OTHER. [WHO ELSE] HAS ALWAYS BEEN N THEY LIVES AS A DADDY N PROVIDED FOR THEM ALL,” he added. What do you think of Boosie Badazz’s theory on why he doesn’t get nominated for awards? Do you agree with him? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below, and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.

Grammy 2024 Nominees: A Look At Best Pop Duo/Group Performance

The Grammy Award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance was first presented at the 2012 ceremony. As the name suggests, the category was created to acknowledge outstanding performances by non-solo acts in the pop genre specifically. Additionally, it was introduced to reflect the growing prominence of collaborative efforts in the pop music landscape. At the upcoming 2024 Grammys, one of five stellar collabs will take home the gold.

Since its inception, it has seen a diverse range of winners, spanning different styles within pop. Past winners include collaborations by artists such as Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, as well as Doja Cat and SZA. Also, at the last award ceremony, Sam Smith and Kim Petras made history for their win in this category. They became the first nonbinary and transgender artists to take home the award. A few months away, excitement for the 2024 Grammys is brewing, and it’s anyone’s guess who will win the Pop Duo/Group Performance award.

“Thousand Miles” – Miley Cyrus Ft. Brandi Carlile

On March 10, 2023, Miley Cyrus released her eighth studio album, Endless Summer Vacation. The record houses her smash hit single, “Flowers,” and 13 other songs. One of those songs, which is another standout track from the project, is the Brandi Carlile-assisted “Thousand Miles.” The seamless chemistry displayed by Cyrus and Carlile in the song is one for the books. While Carlile does not have a solo verse on the track, her beautiful harmonies help to make “Thousand Miles” the song it is. Miley Cyrus received six nominations for the 2024 Grammys, the most she’s ever received at once. While Carlile already owns nine statuettes, a win for Cyrus at the ceremony would be her first.

“Candy Necklace” – Lana Del Rey Ft. Jon Batiste

A master of alt-pop, Lana Del Rey enlisted the help of fellow musical magician Jon Batiste on “Candy Necklaces.” It was released as the fourth single and sixth song from Del Rey’s ninth studio album, Did You Know That There’s A Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. With a five-minute runtime, “Candy Necklace” is a trippy dream-pop masterpiece.

Lana’s hypnotic vocals caress the piano that plays throughout the track, keeping listeners entranced until the very end. Interestingly, most of the song goes by without Batiste’s vocals. However, when he does come in towards the end, repeating “candy necklaces” with Lana, it just feels right. Batiste also closes out the track, saying those two words in a low baritone. The entire song is a sonic journey and certainly deserves this nomination.

“Never Felt So Alone” – Labrinth Ft. Billie Eilish

Classified as an electropop song, “Never Felt So Alone” features impressive vocal performances from Labrinth and Eilish. The song was first featured on the second season of HBO’s hit show Euphoria. Subsequently, it was released as the second single from Labrinth’s third album, Ends & Begins. “Never Felt So Alone” has achieved a fair amount of commercial success since its release. It appeared on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at number 62. Fans are also hoping the pair perform a live rendition of the track at the 2024 Grammys.

In addition, it is currently an RIAA Gold-certified single, having sold over 500,000 units in the US. The song has now also earned Labrinth his second-ever Grammy nomination. While Eilish has been previously nominated in the Best Pop Solo Performance category, this is her first nod in the Duo/Group category. It is also Labrinth’s first nomination in the category.

“Karma” – Taylor Swift Ft. Ice Spice

2023 was undeniably the year of Ice Spice. So it’s only right that two of the year’s most successful artists collaborated. “Karma” was initially released on May 1, 2023, as the third single from Taylor Swift’s tenth album, Midnights. A couple weeks later, on May 26, the remix with Ice Spice dropped, with an accompanying music video. Unsurprisingly, upon its release, the remix was a commercial hit and reached number two on the Hot 100 chart. Swift and Spice both deliver impressive vocal performances on the track. While Ice Spice’s verse is less vocally challenging, it contributes to the overall appeal of “Karma” as a pop song. The nomination of “Karma” in this category marks Swift’s third nod for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. At the 2024 Grammys, she has a chance of finally winning in the category.

“Ghost In The Machine” – SZA Ft. Phoebe Bridgers

SZA is the most-nominated artist at the 2024 Grammys ceremony after a truly incredible year. Since she released her critically acclaimed sophomore album, SOS, she has reached new heights in the music industry. The 23-track album contains many great songs and very few guest appearances. However, sparse as they are, these collaborations are strong. Arguably the best out of the bunch, “Ghost In The Machine” is one of the standout tracks in the entire album. While SOS is primarily a R&B album, “Ghost in the Machine” is a striking alt-pop offering.

Although it was not released as a single, it peaked at number 40 on the Hot 100 chart. Perhaps part of its appeal is its experimental nature, and how unexpected it was from SZA. Regardless, it is certainly among SZA’s best songs. Furthermore, Phoebe Bridgers’ extra touch was just what it needed. Her verse is just as essential to the track as SZA’s. Without a doubt, “Ghost in the Machine” deserves its nomination in this category.

Grammy 2024 Nominees: A Look At Best Latin Pop Album

The nominations for the 2024 Grammys have been revealed, and a highly competitive category is the award for Best Latin Pop Album. The category was introduced in the 1984 Grammys ceremony and has been presented to many famous names since. Over the years it has undergone several name changes, but it has been known as “Best Latin Pop Album” since 2022. Since its inception, the category has seen a variety of artists from different Latin American countries win the award. Some notable winners include music icons like Shakira, Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias, and the most recent recipient, Ruben Blades. With some first-timers in the running, here are the nominees for Best Latin Pop Album at the 2024 Grammys.

La Cuarta Hoja – Pablo Alboran

Pablo Alboran gained widespread popularity when he released his self-titled debut album in 2011. The Latin Pop sensation has dropped many more projects since. Released on December 2, 2022, La Cuerta Hoja is Alboran’s sixth studio album. Upon its release, it became his sixth consecutive album to reach the top of the Spanish Albums Chart. It features production credits from Alboran himself, as well as Paco Salazar, Josh Tampico, Julio Reyez, and Orlando Aispuro Meneses. Of its 11 tracks, eight were released as singles, with the last being “4U.”

Alboran was first nominated for a Grammy back in 2016. However, he has yet to secure a win. Once again, the Recording Academy has recognized the Spanish singer for the excellence of La Cuarta Hoja. His fourth nomination in the Best Latin Pop Album category, this could finally earn him his first win.

Beautiful Humans, Vol. 1 – AleMor

Beautiful Humans, Vol. 1 is the sophomore album of Colombian-American musician rising star, AleMor. After kickstarting her career in the singing competition La Voz, she hasn’t looked back since. Following the announcement of the nominees for the 2024 Grammys, AleMor is now a first-time nominee. The Recording Academy has recognized her excellent work on Beautiful Humans. Except for Bruno Romano’s production on “Kintsugi,” the album was entirely produced by Juan Carlos Perez Soto. Additionally, all eight tracks feature guest appearances from artists such as Fabian Hernandez and Tiare among others. Compared to most other nominees on this list, AleMor is certainly an underdog. However, Beautiful Humans, Vol 1 is as much an excellent album as the other entries on the list.

A Ciegas – Paula Arenas

Paula Arenas demonstrated an early interest in music and began singing at a young age. Years later, that little girl has grown to become a Latin pop star. Released on May 19, 2023, A Ciegas is her sophomore album and has earned Arenas her second Grammy nomination. Julio Reyes Copello, Marcos Sanchez, Andres Guardado, Juan Pablo Vega, and Nicolas de Laspriellaall have production credits on A Ciegas. Additionally, collaborators include Jesus Navarro on “Dejame Llorarte,” and Manuel Medrano on “Puro Sentimiento.” While Arenas was previously nominated in this category in 2022, her album lost to Alex Cuba’s Mendo. A potential win for A Ciegas at the 2024 Grammys is right around the corner. However, the competition is pretty stiff, considering the other albums on this lineup.

La Neta – Pedro Capo

Throughout his career, Pedro Capo has released six studio albums. While he has been recognized for his works at the Latin Grammys, until now, Capo has not been nominated for any Grammy awards. La Neta, his most recent album released in 2022, finally caught the attention of the Recording Academy. “Volver a Casa” was solely produced by Richi Lopez. Besides that, Capo has production credits on all nine of the album’s other tracks. Additionally, Diego Contento produced alongside Capo on eight tracks. Furthermore, La Neta only features two guest appearances from Nejo and Lali.

Don Juan – Maluma

Since 2012’s Magia, Maluma has been on a mission to take over the world one Latin-infused album at a time. Now with six albums to his name, the Colombian singer has been fairly successful in achieving that. Don Juan, his most recent studio album, was released on August 25, 2023. Subsequently, the 25-track album earned him a second Grammy nomination in this category, and his third overall. Don Juan features production credits from Romeo Santos, Marc Anthony, and Edgar Barrera among others. Furthermore, some guest features on the album include Carin Leon on “Segun Quien,” and Don Omar on “Ojitos Chiquiticos.” If Don Juan earns Maluma the statuette at the 2024 Grammys, it would be the singer’s first Grammy win.

X Mi (Vol 1) – Gaby Moreno

A veteran of her craft, Moreno has been releasing albums since 2009 and now has 10 projects to her name. Her most recent album, X Mi (Vol. 1) was released on May 5, 2023, and contains seven acoustic tracks. Moreno is credited as both the performer and sole producer on the album. Additionally, the only track with a guest appearance is “Luna de Xalaju” which features Oscar Isaac. Following her nomination at the 2024 Grammys, Moreno has a chance to take home the gold after losing twice before.

Grammys 2024: A Look At The Best Rap Performance

The Grammys finally unveiled their list of nominees for 2024 and there’s some fierce competition among hip-hop-related categories. Hip-hop’s commercial heavyweights, like Drake and Travis Scott, have a strong presence across the nominations while critically lauded MCs, such as Killer Mike, clearly left a strong impression on the committee. But at the same time, the Grammys evidently acknowledge that the genre’s evolved with artists like Ice Spice and Coi Leray earning nods.

Today, we’ll be diving into the official category for Best Rap Performance. Initially introduced in 1989, the genre’s diverse sounds later spawned two new categories: Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group. However, by 2012, the Grammys reinstated Best Rap Performance as a category of its own. It’s a coveted award that acknowledges the best records of the year. Only one nominee will go home with the trophy but who will it be? Below, we’ve broken down the five nominees who are up for the Best Rap Performance.

In late May, Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem set the tone for what many believe to be a joint project with the release of “The Hillbillies.” Fueled by producer Evilgiane’s marriage of Jersey Club’s bounce and UK drill’s drums, Kendrick Lamar and Baby Keem lean into a playful and braggadocious tone for a standout rap release of the year. Not only does it mark another nomination in the category for Kendrick, who holds the record for most wins in the category with 6 wins, but it could also mark a second win for Keem, who previously won alongside Lamar in 2022 for “family ties.”

“Rich Flex” – Drake & 21 Savage

A meme has officially turned into a Grammy nomination for Drake and 21 Savage. “Rich Flex” kicked off their joint project, Her Loss, which is also up for Rap Album Of The Year. With an intro from Young Nudy, Drake and 21 Savage glide over Tay Keith’s haunting production that allows the Savage Mode rapper to shine bright through interpolations of Megan Thee Stallion’s “Savage” and a healthy mix of extravagant flexes and menacing threats. It’s a stand-out record from one of the biggest projects of 2022 that permeated airwaves and TikTok clips throughout the year.

“Players” – Coi Leray

Creating solid bodies of work isn’t necessarily Coi Leray’s strengths but her ability to craft hit records is no fluke. With “Players,” the Jersey-born rapper enlists producer Goldstein, who created the infectious sample of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five’s 1982 single, “The Message.” Coi’s bubbly personality shines across the infectious song. Similar to “Rich Flex,” “Players” became a massive anthem on TikTok and radiowaves throughout the year.

“Love Letter” – Black Thought

Although the first three nominations centered around commercially successful singles, the final two honor the quality of penmanship. In September, a month after the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, Black Thought unleashed his single, “Love Letter.” Aptly debuted at the BET Hip Hop Awards in September, The Roots frontman paid a beautiful tribute to the culture. Later released on DSPs, Black Thought’s poetic tendencies shine acapella. No beat required, Black Thought delivers an onslaught of bars that encapsulate why he’s one of the greatest MCs to ever do it.

“Scientists & Engineers” – Killer Mike Ft. Future, Andre 3000 & Eryn Allen Kane

Killer Mike is up for three awards at the 2024 Grammys, including Best Rap Performance for “Scientists & Engineers.” Perhaps, the most impressive release of the year that bridges the gap between Dungeon Family generations, Mike reunites Future and Andre 3000 for the single off of Michael. The all-star single boasts incredible talent on the track outside of the guest appearances from Future, Kane, and Andre, who also contributes to the production. The electrifying production also includes contributions from No I.D., DJ Paul, James Blake & TWhy.

Grammy 2024 Nominees: A Look At Best Rap Song

They have announced the nominees for Best Rap Song at the 2024 Grammys. There are some songs people probably expected in the group and some surprising choices. Over the years, people have criticized the Grammys for multiple reasons. One of the biggest is how they treat their rap/hip-hop category. This time around, they’ve nominated songs that touch several segments of the genre, but no matter who they choose, there will be people who are not satisfied. This year’s nominees are trendy songs, many of them being used for sounds all across TikTok. Some songs came out this year while others came out last year, a testament to the specific eligibility period that all nominees must meet. No matter who wins, all the nominees’ streams will increase since their music will be exposed to a new audience.

“Attention” – Doja Cat

Doja Cat enters the 2024 Grammys with a different approach from previous years. Listeners know Doja for her chart-topping pop hits, but even some of those have moments of her rapping. Now, in 2023, she has gone all in with her rapping and did so in her own unapologetic way. This track, “Attention,” was the first single for her 2023 album Scarlet. It established where she was going for the latest stage in her career. The track still features Doja’s singing on the hook, but she rapped all her verses.

Production came from Y2K and Rogét Chahayed, who crafted a smooth and confident soundscape for Doja to share her truth. The rollout for the single featured a promotional image of Doja naked and drenched in blood. Once the music video was released, viewers saw the image came directly from it.

“Barbie World” – Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice With Aqua

It’s only right that the 2024 Grammys have a song from one of the year’s biggest movies as a nominee. It pairs Ice Spice, one of the biggest women in rap this year, with Nicki Minaj, one of the biggest women in rap of all time. This is their second collaboration this year. Both rappers weave references to the Barbie brand in their verses and use them to brag creatively. Production comes from Ice Spice’s go-to collaborator RIOTUSA, who used drill and Jersey Club elements. Aqua, who created the original song “Barbie Girl,” is also sampled on this new version. The song is short but has still accumulated over 346 million streams and hit No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Just Wanna Rock” – Lil Uzi Vert

This nominee at the 2024 Grammys is a song that was played on the radio many times. People credit it for bringing the subgenre of Jersey Club to mainstream listeners. Users all over TikTok were emulating the moves from the song’s music video, and it became a staple for social events. The song’s simplistic lyrics made it easy for listeners to rap along and for it to get stuck in their heads. “Just Wanna Rock” was released in October 2022 and continues to be used across multiple forms of media. Uzi’s hometown of Philadelphia took pride in the song, and the Philadelphia Eagles used it during their entrance at their NFC Championship game against the San Francisco 49ers. Much to the joy of their fans  – they won. Uzi also performed the song at WrestleMania 39 at SoFi Stadium in California.

“Rich Flex” – Drake & 21 Savage

Drake’s Grammy speech from 2019 was a monumental moment, but they still nominated him at the 2024 Grammys. This track comes from his collab album with 21 Savage, Her Loss. This is the first song on the album and its most popular, with over 677 million streams. In fact, “Rich Flex” is the source of the “21, can you do somethin’ for me?” meme that took over social media. Meme status aside, listeners praised the collaboration.

21’s verse takes a moment to interlope Megan Thee Stallion’s flow from “Savage” in his own creative way, which surprised all listeners. They also liked how 21’s signature ad-libs fit in during Drake’s hook but praised the song’s beat switches most. Drake sings over a soulfully sparse beat at the song’s halfway point, which switches again as an aggressive trap beat comes barreling in. Naturally, Drake adjusts his delivery to match it.

“Scientists & Engineers” – Killer Mike Feat. André 3000, Future & Eryn Allen Kane

This song might be the most surprising choice in this category at the 2024 Grammys. They often overlook lyricism-focused songs, especially ones from nonmainstream artists. However, “Scientists & Engineers” was an exceptional song for rap fans. As expected, as soon as the André 3000 feature on it was announced, listeners were clamoring for the song’s release. Much like any release from the past decade with an André 3000 feature, they were ready to declare his verse the best one of the year. Additionally, Future’s feature on the song initially shocked many listeners, but they commended him for his contribution to the track. The song comes from MICHAEL, the Grammy-nominated album by Killer Mike that many have called one of the best rap albums released this year.

Grammy 2024 Nominees: A Look At Best Pop Solo Performance

The Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance is still relatively new, being just a decade old. As such, not many artists can lay claim to the trophy. Furthermore, only two acts have won the award more than once — Adele and Ed Sheeran. At the 2024 Grammys, five pop tracks are nominated in the category, and each one is a strong contender for the win.

The award, first introduced in 2012, serves as a cumulative award after the discontinuation of the Female Pop Vocal, Male Pop Vocal, and Pop Instrumental Performance awards. Moreover, as the name implies, only solo songs are eligible for the award. Previous winners include Lizzo, Pharrell Williams, and Lady Gaga, among others. Also, following her recent nod, Taylor Swift now holds the record for the most nominations, although she has yet to win. Here are the five singles up for the Best Pop Solo Performance award at the 2024 Grammys.

“Paint the Town Red” – Doja Cat

Following a series of controversies, Doja Cat attempted and succeeded at her implied musical rebrand. The artist came out to denounce her previous pop hits as money-grabs and vowed to be taken seriously as a rapper. Nonetheless, the Grammy committee has inserted her into the pop category yet again. Her most recent nomination for “Paint the Town Red” marks her third nod in the category overall.

Doja Cat has previously been nominated in the category for her singles, “Woman,” and “Say So.” Regardless of the inescapable Hip Hop feel of “Paint the Town Red,” it will still compete alongside unmistakable pop hits for the award. The single was well received, topping the Hot 100, and becoming her first number-one single as a solo act. Furthermore, she became the first solo female rapper to ever top the UK Singles Chart.

“Flowers” – Miley Cyrus

“Flowers” proved to be a game-changer for Miley Cyrus’ already illustrious career. The disco-pop tune has been nominated for Best Pop Solo Performance, as well as Record of the Year and Song of the Year at the 2024 Grammys. Released in January 2023, “Flowers” became Cyrus’ second number-one hit. Moreover, it spent eight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.

The funky tune, which is centered on self-confidence and self-love is officially the biggest hit in the star’s catalog. An uplifting anthem about finding joy in singlehood, the relatability of the single helped with its widespread appeal. “Flowers” also broke several records along the way. For example, it became the fastest song in Spotify history to cross a billion streams. Besides topping multiple US charts, the single dominated the charts around the world too.

“Anti-Hero” – Taylor Swift

Even though she has always been one of the biggest musicians in history, “Anti-Hero” marked an even greater success for Taylor Swift. The single is officially her longest-running number one, spending eight weeks atop the charts. At the 2024 Grammys, the song has been nominated for three awards. This is her fifth nomination in the Best Pop Solo Performance category, making her the most nominated act since its inception. Besides the Pop Solo Performance nod, however, “Anti-Hero” is also up for Record of the Year, and Song of the Year.

Furthermore, Swift’s writing was particularly lauded on the track. While she has often been biographical, she takes it up a notch, detailing her insecurities and struggles directly. Overall, the synth-pop tune is evidently one of the biggest tracks of 2023, enjoying significant radio airplay across numerous countries. “Anti-Hero” also topped the charts in the UK, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and numerous countries in Asia.

“Vampire” – Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo is a former winner of the Best Pop Solo Performance award. At the 2022 Grammys, she took home the award for her lauded debut single, “Driver’s License.” The pop-rock superstar has since become one of the biggest artists of the new decade. She is once again up for the award for the lead single off her sophomore album, “Vampire.”

Lyrically, “Vampire” is filled with witty writing, detailing a relationship with a toxic partner. On the track, she brilliantly infuses vampire lore and stereotypes into her writing. Furthermore, the sharp pen is backed by her impressive vocals. What starts out as a pop ballad soon becomes a monstrous rock song, as Rodrigo showcases her vocal maturity. If she does take home the award, she will join Adele and Ed Sheeran as the only other acts with multiple wins.

“What Was I Made For?” – Billie Eilish

Ever since her debut, Billie Eilish has become a certified Grammy darling. Surprisingly, even though she has secured a win in each of the “Big Four,” she has yet to take home a Best Pop Solo Performance win. This nomination at the 2024 Grammys makes her the second-most nominated artist in the category. Her previous tracks that were recognized include: “Happier Than Ever,” “Everything I Wanted,” and “Bad Guy.”

She stands a chance to take home the award for her lush 2023 single, “What Was I Made For?” The track is a part of the soundtrack album, Barbie: The Album, released for the movie of the same name. The track was written by Eilish, alongside her brother and longtime collaborator, FINNEAS. Furthermore, it peaked at number 14 on the Hot 100, and topped the UK Singles Chart.

Grammys 2024 Nominees: A Look At Record Of The Year

At the Grammy Awards, “Record of the Year” is unarguably one of the most prestigious categories to be nominated in. The 2024 Grammys will have eight impressive tracks up for the gold. Furthermore, there are some brand new faces this year, including Victoria Monét, for her smash hit, “On My Mama.” Previous nominees like SZA, Taylor Swift, and Billie Eilish are also nominated for the award.

While Song of the Year recognizes a song’s writers and compositions, Record of the Year is awarded to a song’s artist, producers, recording engineers, mixers, and mastering engineers. At the 2023 Grammys, Lizzo famously took home the award for “About Damn Time.” This made her the first Black woman to win since Whitney Houston in 1994. On February 4, artists and fans will watch as a new Record of the Year winner is crowned. Until then, here are all the eight tracks nominated.

“Worship” – Jon Batiste

After a remarkable four wins at the 2022 Grammys (including the coveted Album Of The Year), Jon Batiste is back again. This time, his seventh studio album, World Music Radio, has earned an impressive four nods. The album’s fourth track, “Worship,” is nominated in the Record Of The Year category. An uptempo, inspirational song, “Worship” was co-produced by Batiste himself, alongside Jon Bellion, Pete Nappi, and Tenroc. Additionally, Serban Ghenea, Nappi, and Chris Genringer are also up for the award, thanks to their stellar engineering. In 2022, Batiste was nominated for Record Of The Year, but lost to Silk Sonic’s groovy number, “Leave the Door Open.”

“Not Strong Enough” – boygenius

The collaborative effort of supergroup boygenius has been received with the highest of praise. The trio, consisting of indie artists Julien Baker, Lucy Dacus, and Phoebe Bridgers returned with the acclaimed album, The Record. boygenius has received a Record Of The Year nomination at the 2024 Grammys for the single, “Not Strong Enough.” The folksy number was produced by the group, alongside Catherine Marks. Pat Sullivan will also be up for the award for mastering engineer credits, joining six other engineers and mixers.

“Flowers” – Miley Cyrus

In January, Miley Cyrus released one of the biggest modern-day break-up anthems. “Flowers,” a disco-inspired tune about self-love and independence, took over radio around the world. Furthermore, it became Cyrus’ second chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100. Her Record of the Year nod is shared with Kid Harpoon and Tyler Johnson, who served as the song’s producers. Furthermore, Michael Pollack, Brian Rajaratnam, Mark “Spike” Stent, and Joe LaPorta share mixing and engineering credits.

“On My Mama” – Victoria Monét

After years of killing it in the game, Victoria Monét is finally garnering the attention and acclaim she’s long overdue. “On My Mama,” the third single of her critically praised debut album, Jaguar II, will also battle it out for Record Of The Year at the 2024 Grammys. Moreover, Monét is the second-most nominated artist of the night, with seven nods. This marks the first time she’s received recognition as a solo act by the Grammys. Additionally, Deputy, Dernst Emile II, and Jeff Gitelman are the track’s producers.

“Kill Bill” – SZA

Undoubtedly, the star of the 2024 Grammys is SZA. The soulful songstress is the most nominated act, with a whopping nine nods. For Record of the Year, her smooth revengeful track, “Kill Bill” is up for the gold. The single, off her critically and commercially successful album SOS, topped the Billboard Hot 100. If she bags the award, she will share the win with Rob Bisel and Carter Lang, the track’s producers, and its engineer, Dale Becker.

“What Was I Made For? [From The Motion Picture Barbie]” – Billie Eilish

“What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish was released as a part of the soundtrack, Barbie: The Album. Moreover, the soft, introspective pop single has received a total of five nominations for the 2024 Grammys. As with most of her works, Eilish co-produces alongside her brother FINNEAS. Additionally, the pair also served as engineers and mixers, alongside Rob Kinelski. Rounding them out is Chris Gehringer, the track’s mastering engineer.

“Vampire” – Olivia Rodrigo

After the widespread success of her Grammy-winning debut album, Sour, there was a huge anticipation for her follow-up. However, Olivia Rodrigo kept the ball rolling. She released “Vampire” in June, as the lead single off her sophomore project, Guts. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the UK Singles Chart. This marks her second Record Of The Year nomination, as her single “Driver’s License” was up for the award in 2022.

“Anti-Hero” – Taylor Swift

“Anti-Hero” was the lead single off Taylor Swift’s 10th album, Midnights. The introspective track also became a chart-topper, dominating the radio around the world. Unsurprisingly, it is nominated for Record of the Year at the 2024 Grammys, as it became an inescapable track. This is also Swift’s fifth nomination in this category, although she has yet to be awarded the trophy before. Swift co-produced the track with longtime collaborator and friend, Jack Antonoff.

Grammy 2024 Nominees: A Look At Best Rap Album

Hip-hop’s relationship with the Grammys has been iffy ever since it was first recognized as a genre in 1989. Since then, the Grammy committee has made numerous attempts to make sure that the culture is well represented, although their choices have undoubtedly been questionable over the years. However, we’re back in award season and the Best Rap Album category has some interesting contenders.

From underground legends like Killer Mike, who delivered an outstanding body of work with Michael, to chart-toppers like Drake and 21 Savage’s Her Loss, as well as Travis Scott’s Utopia, the 2024 Grammy Awards will undoubtedly produce a bigger discourse, no matter who ends up taking home the trophy. However, we’ve broken down the seven projects that could possibly win the award for Best Rap Album at the 2024 Grammys.

Drake & 21 Savage – Her Loss

Drake’s relationship with the Grammys has been contentious, to say the least. However, after boycotting the award show, he and 21 Savage submitted their joint project, Her Loss. Released on November 4th, 2022, the collaborative effort marked Drake’s second album in a matter of months and third in over a year. With the viral success of “Rich Flex” and records like “Spin For You” and “Jumbotron Sh*t Poppin’,” Drake and 21 Savage had 2023 on lock. Although it’s difficult to predict if they’re a shoo-in for Best Rap Album, the success of Her Loss is certainly worthy of its nod.

Metro Boomin – Heroes & Villains

Very few producers have managed to snag any sort of nominations in the Best Rap Album category as the primary artist. However, Metro Boomin’s Heroes & Villains certainly proved to be a massive success in its own right. The sophomore follow-up to Not All Heroes Wear Capes, Metro came through with a star-studded event on his latest album, which dropped on December 2nd, 2022. The usual suspects appeared on the project (21 Savage, Travis Scott, Offset, etc), along with stars like The Weeknd, Chris Brown, and John Legend. Once again, Metro Boomin proved that he’s a generational talent with an ear for production like no other.

Travis Scott – Utopia

Standing as the most anticipated album of 2023, Travis Scott earned himself another Rap Album of The Year nomination for his critically acclaimed album, Utopia, released on July 28th, 2023. Pushing the boundaries of hip-hop further on his latest opus, Utopia served as a strong follow-up to 2018’s Astroworld. Laced with appearances from Drake, 21 Savage, Westside Gunn, and plenty of other familiar faces, Utopia was not only a commercial success but a critical one, too. Ultimately, it checked all of the necessary boxes to land a nomination in the Best Rap Album category at the 2024 Grammy Awards.

Killer Mike – Michael

Following an incredibly fruitful run alongside El-P as Run The Jewels, Killer Mike returned to the studio for his first solo album in 11 years. Michael is a crown jewel in Killer Mike’s solo catalog, boasting thought-provoking bars, impeccable guest appearances, and undeniable production. With hip-hop as the foundation, Michael intertwines influences of gospel, R&B, soul, and funk to deliver the most personal outing by Killer Mike. Although it didn’t necessarily achieve great commercial success, Killer Mike’s pen game and ear for production outweighed any RIAA certification or Billboard chart placement.

Nas & Hit-BoyKing’s Disease III

The magic that Nas and Hit-Boy delivered since they first joined forces on King’s Disease in 2020 served as the foundation for a fruitful partnership. The two created a generational bridge that earned Nas his first Grammy Award in 2021. That same year, Nas and Hit-Boy released the sequel before closing out the trilogy in November 2022. King’s Disease 3, which doesn’t boast a single feature, proved that the chemistry between Nas and Hit-Boy was what hip-hop was missing. Again, another album from the lot that didn’t top the charts, its sheer quality makes it a strong contender among the nominees for the Best Rap Album category.
