Spice The “Queen of Dancehall” Unveils ‘Mirror 25’ Album Cover, Release Date And Reveals Dream Beyoncé Collaboration On ‘Good Morning America’

On July 10, 2024 Grammy® Award-Nominated, chart-topping, global superstar Spice, unveiled the official album cover for her highly anticipated third studio album, ‘Mirror 25’ and announced her official album release date– slated for Friday, August 9, 2024 on Good Morning America.

On the show, the reigning Queen of Dancehall discussed how her album “Mirror 25” will commemorate her 25-year milestone in the music industry. “I started my music career in 1999,” says Spice. “25 years is a long time…It’s not a small thing, it’s a very big thing. In the album, I’m kinda reflecting on all the things that I’ve managed to overcome,” says Spice. “You know, being in the business for 25 years, it’s an ever-growing business— it’s a male dominated business. To be here for 25 years, I know that there are a lot of things that I’ve overcome. Just looking at it, and looking at myself in the future… Where do I go from here? Spice also discussed the advice she would have given her younger self, her love for Jamaican culture, and revealed her next dream collaboration–Beyoncé, and more.

Executive produced by Spice, ‘Mirror 25’ will be an iconic 25 track album showcasing Spice’s legendary sound infused with a unique kaleidoscope of rhythmic tracks, serving as Spice’s raw, open diary of her past trials and tribulations–with each track revealing a vulnerable part of her life. 22-Year-Old Woman Kills Sugar Daddy And Cuts Off Thumb To Still Use His CashApp

A 22-year-old woman and her friend are behind bars after they allegedly killed the woman’s 53-year-old sugar daddy and severed his thumb so they could still use his CahsApp.

NBC4 in Washington D.C. reported that Tiffany Taylor was in a sugar baby relationship with Fasil Teklemariam. On April 5th, Teklemariam was found dead inside of his apartment with blunt force trauma injuries and stab wounds, with one of his thumbs cut off.

D.C. Metro Police believe that Fasil was dead about three days before his body was discovered. During the investigation, a witness claimed that Taylor along with 19-year-old Audrey Miller, slaughtered the man in his apartment and took his thumb so that they could still access his CashApp and other financial apps on his phone.

Police were also able to access surveillance footage from Fasil’s apartment that showed Taylor, Miller and two other men leaving the apartment complex days after the killing. The suspects also allegedly used the victim’s key FOB to go into his apartment and steal an assortment of items, including electronics and jewelry.

Teklemariam’s phone last pinged near Taylor’s D.C. apartment.

Police also learned that before his death, Teklemariam reported Taylor to the authorities for stealing his phone and Cashapping money to herself without his permission. Taylor and Miller were both charged with first-degree murder and armed felony murder. One of the men caught on camera with the two suspects was also arrested, but has not yet been charged with a crime.

Police have yet to recover Teklemariam’s thumb or any of his stolen items.

Rashida Jones, Daughter Of Quincy Jones, Recalls Rocky Relationship With Tupac

Rashida Jones, the daughter of Grammy Award winning producer Quincy Jones, says that her and her family had an up-and-down relationship with the late Tupac Shakur, but still considers him family.

In an interview with the New Yorker, which was published over the weekend(July 7), the actress recalled the open letter she wrote to ‘Pac in The Source following some disparaging remarks that Shakur made about the famed musician/producer.

“All he does is stick his dick in white bitches and make fucked up kids,” Pac said of Rashida’s father at the time.

“I do think that anyone who reads this article would be shocked by his ignorance and lack of respect for his people,” she said. “To demean a man like Quincy Jones, a man who came from the ghetto of Chicago and through his talent and perseverance became a living music legend, demeans the whole progress of African Americans.”

She continued, “Where the hell would you be if Black people like him hadn’t paved the way for you to even have the opportunity to express yourself? I don’t see you fighting for you race. In my Opinion, you’re destroying it and shitting all over your people.”

30 years later, Rashida reflected on the letter she wrote, which was shortly before her older sister Kidada began dating Tupac.

“Furious! So precocious, so self-righteous. Yeah, I was so mad,” she said. “It was a new perspective to me. I kind of understand the nuance more now that I’m older. It just felt like a completely unwarranted attack. It resolved itself really nicely, because when I met him, he immediately apologized to me, immediately apologized to my dad. We sat down and had a really good conversation about it, and then he was family.”

Rhino Records Announces Biggie Smalls ‘Ready To Die’ 30th Anniversary Re-Issue

The Notorious B.I.G.’s multi-platinum debut, Ready to Die, celebrates its 30^th anniversary with a special 2-LP reissue featuring newly reimagined limited edition cover art.

On September 13—the album’s original release date—Ready To Die (30th Anniversary) will be available as a double album on black vinyl from Rhino.com and biggiemerch.com. On the same day, a color vinyl edition will be available exclusively at select retailers.

Earlier this year, the Library of Congress inducted Ready To Die into the National Recording Registry. In the essay accompanying the induction, author and journalist Justin Tinsley writes, “In its true essence, the album is a response to American capitalism and just how deadly the pursuit of money could be and was for so many–in particular, young Black folks in America. ‘Ready To Die’ is a response to so many moments in American history before it: the economic crisis that nearly crippled New York in the 1970s, the crack explosion of the ’80s (and the unfathomable violence and destruction it brought) and Reagonomics, ‘Stop-And-Frisk’-era policies that crippled Black communities… ‘Rolling Stone’ dubbed the album ‘the precise moment when hip-hop’s golden age transitioned into its modern age, the height of New York hip-hop and the sound of the greatest rapper of all time at the absolute top of his power.’”

The album’s lead single, “Juicy,” achieved gold certification upon release and peaked at No. 3 on the Hot Rap Singles chart, crossing over to reach No. 27 on the Billboard Hot 100. Since its release, the platinum-certified track has garnered over 1 billion streams and was named the best hip-hop song of all time by the BBC. The second single, “Big Poppa,” was an even bigger success; with over 1 billion streams to date, it topped the Rap and R&B charts and reached No. 6 on the Hot 100. It was certified platinum at the time and nominated for the GRAMMY® Award for Best Rap Solo Performance. In addition, a remix of “One More Chance” topped the Rap and R&B charts and peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100.

The iconic record has been certified 6x platinum and is widely regarded as one of the greatest hip-hop albums ever, making the Apple Music 100 Best Albums of All Time and No. 1 on Rolling Stone’s The 200 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums of All Time.

Today In Hip Hop History: Intelligent Hoodlum Dropped His Self Titled Debut Album 34 Years Ago

On this day in 1990, original Juice Crew member and Queensbridge Projects native Percy Chapman aka the Intelligent Hoodlum, released his debut album, also entitled Intelligent Hoodlum, on the A&M Records label.

Produced primarily by the QB behind the boards legend Marley Marl and Large Professor, this album was one of the most socio-political projects of its time, which could be easily categorized among the ranks of the Poor Righteous Teachers and Brand Nubian with its Islamic/5% Nation overtones. With the reception of The Juice Crew’s “The Symphony” as one of the best Hip Hop tracks of all time, it was very easy to overlook the members of the crew that didn’t appear on the song. As the youngest member of the crew, this album was necessary for Tragedy to prove himself as artist in his own right.

Some of the most memorable track from this project include the James Brown-powered “Black And Proud”, the George H.W. Bush-inspired “Arrest The President” and the Soul II Soul-sampled “Back To Reality”. Almost three decades ago, albums were more exclusive, so a 12-track album was an unspoken maximum for the number of songs on a full length project.

While appearing on LeBron James and Maverick Carter’s The Shop series, Outkast’s Andre 3K reflected on the late Texas rapper being “really mad” at him when he submitted his verse for the 2007 hit.

“Rest in peace Pimp [C], but I got a [funny] story about that,” André said when co-host Paul Rivera asked him about his verse on the song. “Pimp was so mad at me because they sent the beat and I wrote my verse, put my words down and I took the beat out for me to rap.”

“When I sent it back to them, Pimp was like, ‘Fuck this muthafucka, man! This n-gga done goddamn took my beat out! Who the fuck he think he is?!’ So he was really mad at the choice that I had made to take the beat [out]. I don’t know if it was Bun or somebody, they were like, ‘Nah, but you don’t understand, when that beat drop, though, it sets it off.’ So it’s almost like a set-up. So it worked, and once he got that, he was like, ‘Okay, okay.’ But he was so mad at me.”

Veteran A&R Jeff Sledge previously told this story on an episode of ItsTheReal’s A Waste of Time podcast in 2016.

“When André sent his piece back and had no drums, [Pimp C] was pissed off,” he explained. “He was like ‘Fuck André, man! How the fuck is he gonna send my shit back and take my drums out? Fuck that.’ He was going off about André taking the drums out. I was like, ‘Chad, hold up fam. Let’s rock it like that because when André doing a capella and then when the beat drops, that’s when your verse drops. And then your verse is gonna lift the record up because now the beat is rocking and your verse is kicking.’

Angela Simmons’ “Angela’s Cakes” Partners With Slutty Vegan To Debut Deep Fried Oreos

Pinky Cole-Hayes and Angela Simmons are collaborating again for the launch of a new menu item: Vegan Fried Oreos. The tasty addition, which will include Simmons’ Angela’s Cakes mix, will be available at select Slutty Vegan locations across the United States throughout the summer.

The launch, which is a limited menu item that will be available from July – September, is the second initiative between both powerhouses (with the first being Angela’s Cakes, a versatile and vegan pancake and waffle mix). That same mix, combined with oat milk, will serve as the foundation for the Oreos. The initial rollout will begin in Slutty Vegan’s New York locations. In the middle of July, the dessert will roll out to Atlanta and the rest of Slutty Vegan’s locations.

“With me being a major vegan foodie with a sweet tooth, I’m always looking to satisfy my cravings, especially when I’m traveling,” says Angela Simmons, who launched Pastry Footwear (which went on to achieve $75 million in sales). “Working with Pinky and Slutty Vegan has been amazing because she shares that same vision of bringing the tastiest vegan options to the masses.”

With names such as Ménage à Trois and Hollywood Hooker, Cole-Hayes’ Slutty Vegan restaurant has had vegans and meat lovers alike standing in line for hours to experience the juicy goodness of plant-based burgers since 2019. To date, the brand is valued at over $100 million.

“We [Slutty Vegan] are so excited about the rollout of this limited menu item. I mean, who doesn’t love fried Oreos?”, asks Pinky Cole-Hayes, owner of Slutty Vegan. “The initial rollout will start in New York and Atlanta, but don’t be surprised if you see it coming in other markets, especially with our food truck currently trekking across the country.”

Cole-Hayes is also the author of: “Eat Plants, B*tch,” a cookbook of 91 recipes (consisting of: Avocado Egg Rolls, Black Pea Cauliflower Po’Boy, Oyster Mushroom Parm and everything in between).
