Netflix Jokingly Warns Fans About Nudity In “Obsession”

Obsession is the latest thriller series from Netflix. Based on the 1991 novel Damage, the show stars Richard Armitage as a surgeon who begins an affair with his son’s fiancee. However, passion quickly turns into an obsession in a way that could threaten his career and life. The show also stars Charlie Murphy, Indira Varma, and Rish Shah. The novel had been previously adapted into 1992’s Damage. That film holds a 79% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and starred Jeremy Irons.

However, Netflix’s Obsession has not been well-received. It holds a 40% critics rating and a 23% audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics have slammed clunky pacing, underwhelming acting, and a distinct lack of chemistry between the two romantic leads. As Jesse Thompson of The Independent put it, “It gives us an overload of shlock, foreboding string music and some depressing, grunty shagging.” Despite the cold reception, Netflix has been undeterred about finding unorthodox ways to advertise their new show. And that decision was all about putting the nudity front and centre.

Netflix Tweets Out Time Codes So Fans Can Skip Nudity

In a tweet made after Obsession‘s release, Netflix let fans know when to expect nudity in the erotic thriller. This was done under the guise of warning viewers in the event “you’ve made the (questionable) decision to watch Obsession with your parents.” As an erotic thriller, Obsession holds little back in its exploration of BDSM relationships. The show contains scenes of full-frontal nudity and other kink-related moments.

The tweet, which has been paired with the Netflix Twitter account changing its bio to “No pillows were harmed in the making of Obsession.” comes after several complaints were raised about the show. Some viewers felt that adequate warning was not given about the amount, and level, of nudity in the show. This comes in the wake of Quentin Tarantino giving his thoughts on the “sex in cinema” debate. Fans who still watch the show despite the poor reviews will be thankful they now know when to look away. But perhaps don’t turn on an erotic thriller if you’re not in the mood for some T, A, and P.

The Kanye West ‘Jeen-Yuhs’ Directors Were Sued By A Chicago Woman For Revealing Her ‘Dark Past’

Love Is Blind viewers thought they’d never see the footage of the live reunion special. It was later revealed that this was due to the extreme technical difficulties faced by Netflix. But reality television enthusiasts aren’t the only ones anxious about the streaming giant. A short clip of the show featured in Ye’s (formally known as Kanye West) 2022 Netflix documentary Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy is at the center of a new lawsuit, according to TMZ.

A Chicago woman named Cynthia Love is seeking $30,000 in damages from the three-part series directors Coodie Simmons and Chike Ozah as well as Netflix. Love, who had appeared in the video for Ye’s breakout single “Through The Wire,” which was also directed by Simmons, claims in the lawsuit that the extended version of her used in the series shows her in an “altered state” in which she “was not capable of providing consent.”

The defendant alleged that when the footage was first captured, she was compensated $20. Her appearance in the music video was minor as she is seen dancing in what appears to be a restaurant while not in a right state of mind. Love shared that use of the extended footage shows her “dark past” from which she’s worked nearly two decades to escape.

Love insists that she was not personally contacted for consent to use the extended footage, claiming Simmons told her son “he assumed she was dead” instead of trying to contact her before the documentary was released.

Kanye West’s Netflix Doc Sparks Lawsuit Over Unearthed Footage

Fans got an intimate look into Kanye West’s come-up last year when Netflix released Jeen-Yuhs. From directors Chike & Coodie, the documentary explored Ye’s early days as a producer trying to get a deal as a rapper. The wide-ranging doc also provided a BTS glimpse into his 2020 presidential campaign. However, the documentary has now led to a new lawsuit against Netflix and the directors. Per TMZ, a Chicago woman is suing the streaming giant and Chike & Coodie after they used footage of her dancing in an “altered state” for the documentary.

The woman behind the suit, Cynthia Love, appeared in the music video for Kanye’s “Through The Wire.” In the court documents, Love claims Chike & Coodie exploited her when they used an extended clip of her in the documentary. She’s spotted at the beginning of Ye’s video dancing inside a restaurant. Love alleges that she received $20 for her cameo. She added that she “​​altered state and not capable of providing consent” to being filmed. Furthermore, she’s upset that extended footage of her appearance made its way into the documentary. 

Cynthia Love Vs. Netflix

Cynthia Love explained that the footage of her dancing inside the restaurant with Ye is a representation of the past – something she’s moved from. Love explained that she’s remained sober for 18 years and turned her life around completely. She said that she’s had long-term jobs and repaired relationships that were harmed. On top of that, she said that the documentary has revealed her past to those who weren’t aware of that part of her life, and watching those moments have forced her to re-live those days that she has since put behind her. 

In her suit, Love also suggested that Coodie reached out after Netflix released the doc. She said that he texted her son, claiming that he assumed she died. As you could imagine, that extra bit of effort may have helped Netflix and Coodie & Chike dodge this lawsuit. Love claims she suffered emotional distress from the footage, which also took a hit to her reputation. She’s currently seeking Netflix and Coodie & Chike for a minimum of $30,000. American “Squid Game” Remake In The Works

Squid Game, Netflix’s South Korean satirical drama, took the world by storm in 2021. Created by Hwang Dong-hyuk, the show follows Seong Gi-hun, a single father and gambling addict, as he competes in a brutal death game to pay off his debts. A staple of the East Asian “death game” genre, it became one of Netflix’s biggest hits upon release.

However, Squid Game has also shown remarkable staying power. MrBeast made a heavily-criticized “real life Squid Game” video. Meanwhile, Netflix ordered both a documentary about the show and a “real life Squid Game” reality show of their own. A second season of the show is also in production. Netflix Reveals American “Squid Game”

According to the entertainment industry podcast The Hot Mic, Netflix has ordered an American remake of Squid Game. Additionally David Fincher (Se7en, The Game, Fight Club) has been linked to the project. An American remake of the show has been rumored for some time, as Netflix looks to capitalize off the show’s success for long as possible. However, this is the first major confirmation that the project is going ahead. Questions immediately arose about the project – how different would it be from the original? Would the same satirical tone and exploration of themes such as capitalist exploitation remain? And perhaps most pressingly for the internet, why are you doing?

The news of an American remake was not well-received by the internet. Forbes penned an article called Netflix, Do Not Make American Squid Game while numerous users across social media lambasted the lack of originality. This has been a common reaction in recent years to news that East Asian media successes are being considered for Western remakes. Also reportedly being remade is the Korean zombie sensation, Train To Busan. But Squid Game, which garnered so much success in part due to its novelty for Western audiences, may suffer from a remake. Those who watched the original already know the story and those who weren’t interested aren’t going to be drawn in by an American retelling. However, for the time being, it appears that the show is in the same early stages of development.

Announced Monday, an animated Stranger Things spin-off has been ordered by Netflix. Rumors of anime-inspired or animated Stranger Things show have been floated for several years. Little is known about the show, which will be run by Eric Robles and executive produced by The Duffers. Robles is a former character designer who has worked on shows such as Skunk Fu, Fanboy & Chum Chum, and Glitch Techs. It is not clear if this project is related to the long-rumored Stranger Things: Tokyo show concept. However, it is more than likely going to focus on a new group of characters, be it in Hawkins or elsewhere. Despite the lack of details, an animated project is something the Duffer Brothers have always wanted. “”We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving,” the brothers told Variety.

An animated show is just the latest in a long line of spin-offs for the Netflix Stranger Things brand. The expanding world of Stranger Things also includes a rumored live-action spin-off, as well as a West End stage production. As for the Duffer Brothers themselves, they have been attached to several Netflix projects away from Stranger Things. The brothers will reportedly lead a live-action Death Note series, as well as an adaptation of Stephen King’s The Talisman. However, Beef goes beyond its simple premise to become an intimate and petty look at the lengths people go to in order to feel alive. Yuen’s Danny is a handyman with no self-awareness of his patronizing view of the world. Meanwhile, Wong’s Amy is trapped in a suburban hell she pretends is her ultimate goal in life. A chance meeting in a hardware store parking lot becomes a road rage chase through the suburbs. That incident becomes the spark for the two to engage in an increasingly dramatic war of words and actions. But as much as the two of them despite each other, the havoc they can wreak on each other is the only thing giving their lives meaning.

“Beef” Is Certified Fresh And Widely Praised

Debuting on April 6, Beef quickly garnered the rare 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. At the time of writing, the show holds a 99% critics rating and a 96% audience rating. It continues a strong showing for Netflix in the TV department, with YA fantasy Shadow & Bone‘s second season currently holding an 83% rating. Furthermore, Beef‘s strong debut also allows Netflix to keep pace with the hits of its competitors such as Apple TV (Ted Lasso Season 3 – 93%), Paramount+ (Rabbit Hole – 77%), and HBO (Succession Season 4 – 97%).

Critics have praised Beef‘s encapsulation of modern rage, especially in “an era that sells us on the ease of being able to have anything we want, only countered by our frustration at being unable to.” (Gayle Sequeira, Film Companion).
