1970s Covers From Phoebe Bridgers, St. Vincent, And Thundercat Lead The ‘Minions 2’ Soundtrack

Over the weekend, teasers made it seem like Tama Impala and Diana Ross were perhaps making an album together. It turns out that’s only sort-of-but-not-really true: They are appearing on an album together, yes, but that album is the soundtrack to the upcoming Minions: The Rise Of Gru movie, the full tracklist of which has now been revealed.

Their contribution is a collaborative new song called “Turn Up The Sunshine.” The 19-track album mostly consists of covers, but other originals include “Cool” from Verdine White (of Earth, Wind & Fire), RZA’s “Kung Fu Suite,” and Heitor Pereira’s “Minions: The Rise Of Gru Score Suite.”

As for the covers, they’re all of songs from the ’70s, coinciding with the movie’s setting. Selections include St. Vincent doing Lipps, Inc’s “Funkytown”; Thundercat doing Steve Miller Band’s “Fly Like An Eagle”; Phoebe Bridgers doing The Carpenters’ “Goodbye To Love”; and Brockhampton doing Kool & The Gang’s “Hollywood Swinging.”

Anderson .Paak Is Set To Make Directorial Debut And Star Alongside His Son in ‘K-POPS!’

Just when it seems like Anderson .Paak can’t get any better, he adds a new gift to his repertoire. The eight-time Grammy Award winner will make his feature directorial debut with dramatic comedy K-POPS!, which he will also star in, Deadline reports. It will be a special treat for the multi-hyphenate as his son, Soul Rasheed, will join him on the big screen.

The film follows a washed-up musician taking his talents to Korea to write for K-pop stars, learning along the way that his estranged son is the leader of one of the most popular groups within the genre. The father sees the opportunity as a way to push himself forward, but realizes connecting with his son is much more gratifying.

The film’s premise uniquely parallels the 36-year-old’s life in certain ways, though calling him washed may be a stretch. Alongside Silk Sonic member Bruno Mars, .Paak brought home four awards at the most recent Grammys as they now prepare for their Vegas residency in May.

The Ventura artist stated, “My mom is from Korea but she was adopted so I never knew anything about my heritage until I met my wife. This movie is a reflection on learning about this part of myself alongside my wife and son — and spending even more time with them!”

The film, released under Stampede Ventures, includes contributions from rapper Jon “Dumbfoundead” Park and writing from Khaila Amazan, responsible for A Cuban Girl’s Guide To Tea And Tomorrow.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

DC Reportedly Wanted Drake To Play Cyborg In A Television Series

Before he was an internationally famous rap star, Drake got his foot in the door of the entertainment industry as an actor. Well, it’s been a while since he’s pulled those skills out of his bag of tricks with his last non-music video credit coming in 2012 (a cameo in Anchorman 2 as “Soul Brother”). However, fans apparently nearly got to see him on the big screen as a superhero, if character designer Jared Krichevsky is to be believed.

Over the weekend, Krichevsky posted a mock-up of Drake as Justice League character Cyborg, which he says was a concept for a TV series about the half-man-half-machine former football star turned superhero. “They wanted to cast Drake at one point,” he explained.

It isn’t terribly surprising that the series concept fell through. After all, hundreds of shows are conceived and pitched without even making it to a pilot, let alone actually onto TV, and setting sights on such a big name to lead the show likely brought up all kinds of issues with budget and schedule. Again, Drake’s a huge music star who would have wanted to be properly compensated and most networks just aren’t shelling out that kind of dough for new shows — even ones with recognizable faces like his.

Besides, what with Drake recording new albums and feature verses for friends like Future, showing up at NBA Playoff games to heckle players, and participating in his own homegrown hoop league (not to mention touring), Drake doesn’t exactly have time for much world-saving. Still, somewhere out there in the multiverse, there’s a version of Drake blasting aliens with his sonic cannon alongside a Black Lightning played by Future and that’s a world I wouldn’t mind seeing.

Olivia Wilde Is Reportedly ‘Confused’ And Mortified By Having Legal Papers Served To Her While Promoting A Movie

While preparing to present the trailer for her highly-anticipated movie Don’t Worry Darling starring Harry Styles and Florence Pugh, Olivia Wilde was served with legal papers from ex Jason Sudeikis. The two split in 2020, and have two kids together.

The move confused those in attendance, though Wilde calmly took the papers and continued with her presentation. Wilde has been linked with Styles for the past year and was recently seen attending his Coachella set. The two allegedly began dating while Wilde was directing the film.

A source told Page Six that the whole ordeal was confusing and inappropriate, and sent Wilde reeling. “Olivia was confused when she was handed the envelope, and she was even more confused when she opened it,” the source shared.

The source added, “It seemed unthinkable to her, and it took a moment to set in, but as mortifying as it was, she did not want to give a reaction. She was there to introduce a project that is near and dear to her heart, and for someone to try to take that moment from her — whether it be Jason, a process server or anyone else — was beyond inappropriate.”

Sedeikis’ team insists the Ted Lasso actor had no knowledge of when and where the papers would be served, which can be at the descretion of the legal team that was hired.

Pusha T Shares A Preview Of His Upcoming Film ‘Respect The Jux’

Pusha T is still fresh off the release of his fourth studio album, It’s Almost Dry, but he’s already on to the next project. Already a well-respected icon in the music world and a growing force in businesses like restaurants and tech, the burgeoning Virginia mogul is making moves on the film industry next, executive producing the crime thriller Respect The Jux. Dropping via VOD on May 6, the film tells the story of a young Jamaican immigrant who gets caught up in gang life and a scheme to get rich.

According to the film’s synopsis:

Cat was left in Jamaica by his mother at the tender age of eleven in pursuit of a better life. It would be six years later she was able to send for him and his sister. Within those six years of her absence, Cat becomes a member of “The Order,” a local gang. Living with his mother in a small apartment in the ghettos of Brooklyn, NY, he would become obsessed with obtaining his vision of the American dream.

In addition to being a fast-food spokesperson, Pusha has expressed interest in writing a children’s book but lamented that no one wants to publish it last year. Perhaps his next foray will be into publishing so he can put it out himself.

Megan Fox And Machine Gun Kelly Drink Each Other’s Blood, But Not In A ‘Game Of Thrones’ Kind Of Way

Most engagement announcements are, let’s face it, pretty corny, but Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly aren’t most couples. In early 2022, the Jennifer’s Body actress shared the happy news that she and the “emo girl” singer are getting married with a post on Instagram that ended with, “And just as in every lifetime before this one, and as in every lifetime that will follow it, I said yes… and then we drank each other’s blood.”

Fox was asked about the Billy and Angelina-like blood drinking in a recent interview with Glamour UK. “Yeah. So, I guess to drink each other’s blood might mislead people or people are imagining us with goblets and we’re like Game of Thrones, drinking each other’s blood,” she said while laughing. “It’s just a few drops, but yes, we do consume each other’s blood on occasion for ritual purposes only.” It’s medicinal blood.

Fox continued:

“I’m much more controlled. I read tarot cards and I’m into astrology and I’m doing all these metaphysical practices and meditations. And I do rituals on new moons and full moons, and all these things. And so, when I do it, it’s a passage or it is used for a reason. And it is controlled where it’s like, ‘Let’s shed a few drops of blood and each drink it.’ He’s much more haphazard and hectic and chaotic, where he’s willing to just cut his chest open with broken glass and be like, ‘Take my soul.’ … Let me tell you. Maybe not exactly like that, but a version of that has happened many times.”

What are the odds that track one on Machine Gun Kelly’s next album is called “Take My Soul” followed by track two “I Am Weed”? I say pretty high. Anyway, mazel tov to the blood-drinking couple. May your wedding feast be provided by the finest Dothraki chefs.

Bad Bunny Will Play A Wrestling Superhero In ‘El Muerto,’ A New ‘Spider-Man’ Spinoff Movie

Bad Bunny is one of the planet’s most successful musicians; He was Spotify’s most-streamed artist worldwide in both 2020 and 2021. He’s also proven himself to be quite the multi-hyphenate by building up his IMDb page with roles in movies like F9 and Bullet Train. Now he’s preparing for his biggest acting opportunity yet: Yesterday, Sony announced El Muerto, a Spider-Man spinoff movie starring Bad Bunny as the titular character, IGN reports.

The movie was introduced by Sony Motion Picture Group president Sanford Panitch at CinemaCon and it’s set to be released in theaters on January 12, 2024. This role will make Bad Bunny Marvel’s first live-action Latino lead.

IGN describes the El Muerto character, “In the comics, El Muerto is a super-powered wrestler who has had their mask and abilities passed down through the generations. To become worthy, new wrestlers would need to prove themselves against El Dorado. Juan-Carlos Estrada Sanchez was one of these chosen descendants, but he was unable to fight El Dorado when his father Marcus Estrada presented him. As a result, Marcus sacrificed himself to save his son. Following the tragic death, El Dorado would give Juan-Carlos ten years to become stronger to face him again and earn the right to become El Muerto.”

Deadline notes of the character’s connection to Spider-Man, “The character of El Muerto, aka Juan Carlos, was a super powered wrestler who originally fought Spider-Man in a charity wrestling match in which he nearly unmasked the webslinger before being stung by Spider-Man with a paralyzing poison. After his oppressor El Dorado came to claim his life, he was saved by Spider-Man, after which the two team up to defeat Dorado.”

The role seems to be a perfect fit for Bad Bunny, given how involved he’s been with the WWE lately.

Joining him on his pot-fueled mission to get his girlfriend back are rapper Gata (of Dave fame), Pete Davidson, and Whitney Cummings. Kelly’s real-life fiancée Megan Fox also appears in the movie.

Good Mourning marks Kelly’s directorial debut, alongside fellow musician Mod Sun. Trippie Redd, Dove Cameron, Dennis Rodman, Tom Arnold, and Danny Trejo can be spotted throughout the trailer. Snoop Dogg also appears in the movie as an animated talking joint.
