Serayah Releases 7-Track EP “Flutter”

Serayah has released her latest EP, titled Flutter. The project, released via BeGenius Records, consists of seven tracks from the California-based singer and actress. Flutter includes features from Lady London and Village Boy Prince, who joins forces with Serayah on the single “Love or Die.” The previously released single, “F.B.B.” also appears on the tracklist. It is her first release since 2020’s Ray EP and her third overall project.

Serayah made her debut with 2018’s Addicted EP.  With a run-time of twenty minutes, Flutter combines vintage with modern R&B for seven songs that explore a variety of sounds and tempos. On her latest EP, Serayah channels the aesthetics of 2000’s R&B while keeping things fresh with contemporary production. The project serves as a reminder to those who know her for her roles in various movies and TV shows.

Acting Has Kept Serayah Busy

Many may know Serayah for her acting, but she got her start in television by utilizing her skills as a singer. Her first big role in a series was playing pop star Tiana Brown on Empire, starting in 2015. The show ran for six seasons, with its final season airing in 2020. Serayah played a starring role, but she also lent her voice to the show’s soundtrack. Her role as Tiana Brown propelled her into mainstream recognition, as both an actress and a singer. She has appeared in multiple music videos for the likes of Chris Brown, Diddy, and her boyfriend Joey Bada$$

Since Empire ended, Serayah has kept herself busy with acting, appearing in numerous films and landing roles in notable TV shows. She has been a mainstay in the Starz series BMF, as well as the most recent season of Wu-Tang: An American Saga. With a prolific acting career, Serayah has still made time to focus on music, consistently releasing singles and multiple EP’s. Flutter sticks to the R&B and pop fusion that Serayah established for both Empire and her own music career. Give Flutter a listen and let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

Digga D’s Fourth Album “Back To Square One” Is Here

UK rising rap phenom Digga D returns with another new project for the fans who have been riding with him. Back To Square One is a 15-song 39-minute-long offering that provides plenty of solid tracks throughout. The genres dabbled in here include UK drill, British hip-hop, and elements of trap. Only two features appear on Digga D’s latest effort with Potter Payper rapping on Facade. Then, M Huncho is a feature on song eight called “Baby Mums Crib.”

The opening title “Fighting For My Soul” is one of the best moments here, setting up the album for the rest of the way. One of the best sequences of bars comes from the first verse where Digga D raps, So, I’m mindful when I talk, ’cause if not, they’ll cancel me to be spiteful, it’s all a cycle / My head’s chipped, so I smoke my weed -ital / Need a break from prison like Michael / It’s all about survival, ask my rival / Shoot on arrival, make his destination final.” There is other quality here such as the most popular track “Energy” with over 26 million streams.

Digga D Explains The Meaning Behind The Project

Besides providing heat on Back To Square One, Digga delves into the inspiration behind it. In a sit down with Apple Music he says, “Before drill, there was rap, and I’m taking it back there for this project.” He continues, “But there’s a double meaning, too. I’m also going back home to Powis [Square] in West London, where I’m from. A lot has changed for me as I’ve grown up and learned different things, and I have more faith now. Not that I never had any before, but I feel like I’m more in tune with myself now, and you can hear it.” Digga certainly sounds like he has a new mindset here and its prevalent from the start.

Legendary producer DJ Muggs is here with a 19-song offering in the form of Soul Assassins 3: Death Valley. It is the third title in the Soul Assassins series, with the first one appearing back in 1997. The third album brings some great jazz and boom-bap-like production across the 46-minute and 14-second runtime. This is arguably the best tape out of all three.

Muggs’ Soul Assassins I, reached number 86 on the Billboard 200 and earned plenty of amazing reviews. Muggs grabbed Dr. Dre, B-Real, La the Darkman, Mobb Deep, RZA, GZA, Goodie Mob, KRS-One, and Wyclef Jean to boot. Then three years later, he returned with Soul Assassins II. Unfortunately, its peak was only 178. However, it garnered similarly positive reviews, so why not feed the fans more?

Terrace Martin And James Fauntleroy Come Together For A Laid Back Collab EP “Nova”

Terrace Martin and James Fauntleroy have given us angelic pieces of music for so many years. Now, they are teaming up for this new EP called “Nova.” It is a six-track 22-minute-long venture into serene beats and beautiful singing that fans are sure to eat up. The two have worked together before on numerous occasions on songs like “Drones,” “Reflection,” “Too Late,” and many more. The first two aforementioned tracks appear on Martin’s 2021 album DRONES.

“Reflection” is a track that is a heavy-hitting collaboration in particular because it shows how much chemistry the two have together. The woozy production and beautiful vocal work were a sign that both needed to make a full-length effort happen. Sure enough, we got that and it does not disappoint. Unfortunately, there are not as many songs as we would like, but the short time leaves more room for more ideas to bubble up.

Terrace Martin And James Fauntleroy Provide Ultimate Chill Vibes

Terrace Martin and James Fauntleroy utilize the jazz genre to the max on this EP and do so with great appreciation. It does not sound like a cheesy take on the culture that jazz has created for the music scene at large. But, that is because Terrace worked on possibly the greatest jazz rap album of all time To Pimp A Butterfly by Kendrick Lamar. Songs like “King Kunta,” and “These Walls” had Martin’s input and they were some of the most celebrated tracks from that astounding record. The same energy is here for Nova in full force.

What are your initial thoughts on this brand new EP from James Fauntleroy and Terrace Martin called Nova? Is this one of the best jazz rap albums you have listened to?
