Sean Leon Treats Fans To Extended Album “IN LOVING MEMORY +”

Sean Leon has been making music for over a decade. He has a sprawling discography for those who are relatively new to his unique hybrid of styles and genres. IN LOVING MEMORY was definitely a breakout moment for the artist, however. The 2023 album was a gorgeous fusion of content and music, allowing Sean Leon to showcase all of his talents in a single listening experience. Perhaps realizing that this was his finest album to date, Leon decided to add more. IN LOVING MEMORY + is an expansion upon to his last release, with eight more songs.

You know the first 14 songs on here. They are excellent and soulful. The bonus songs are revelations, however. “DOES IT HURT?” is a tender ballad set to a thumping dance beat pulled right out of the early 1990s. “GREY SKIES” is a chopped up meditation on love and life that sounds like a Canadian riff on an old Pharcyde track. “HEART RATE” is a slick, melodic rap cut, but “RHYAN’s HYMN” is the real stunner towards the back end. It radiates gospel warmth, in both Sean Leon’s impassioned vocal and the dingy, demo-sounding quality of the recording. IN LOVING MEMORY already felt like a complete thought, but Sean Leon proved that he had more to say. This is a rare instance of an extended version actually making the original album better.

Rich Amiri Treats Fans To A Raging Party With “War Ready” Album

Rich Amiri is a bit of a hybrid artist. He has the melodic vocals and hard-nosed lyrics of someone like Polo G. Musically, though, Amiri is closer in spirit to rage rappers like Yeat and Ken Carson. Every Rich Amiri album is a sonic adventure, and War Ready is no exception. The album lives up to its title with a batch of songs that are energetic, propulsive, and filled with confrontational bars. The opener, “AMIRI TRENDSETTER,” is an excellent OsamaSon collab, but it doesn’t really serve as a good indicator of the album overall. It’s mid-tempo and club ready more than War Ready.

Don’t worry, though, because the energy ramps up with the second track, ‘OH MYY.” Rich Amiri goes ballistic over a synth-driven beat. He’s talking about anything and everything, but the vibe is addictive and the flow is undeniable. The best songs on War Ready see Rich Amiri take minimal instrumentals and utterly dominate them with his catchy refrains and outlandish bars. There aren’t many guest features, but versatile cuts like the spacey “U WANT THAT?” and the trap-flavored “GUTTA GUTTA” keep things from sounding too samey. Be sure to check out “G23,” a standout that sounds like the love child of Cloud Rap and sticky Dirty South melodies.

Czarface Creates A New Hip-Hop Trio With Kool Keith With Their Debut “Everybody Eats!”

CZARFACE is shifting around some pieces for this latest project, Everybody Eats! This is 7L, Esoteric, and Inspectah Deck’s 14th release, however, this one doesn’t include one of the members. The Wu-Tung Clan member is the odd man out in this case. Some of you may disappointed to learn that, however, the “replacement” is not one to sneeze at. Kool Keith, another underground legend hailing from The Bronx, steps in to fill some big shoes. But given his stature in the game, 7L and Esoteric don’t miss a beat with him in the fold. We say “replacement” though for Keith because he’s actually joining the CZARFACE family to an extent.

He’s here to help create a secondary rap group called Stress Eater, hence the title, Everybody Eats! So, in a way, this is a debut project of sorts. If you aren’t familiar with Keith’s work, him being a part of a hip-hop posse is nothing new. In fact, he’s been a founder during his 40 plus year career. Back in the 1980s, he formed Ultramagnetic MC’s. Ced Gee, DJ Moe Love, and TR Love are his compatriots, and they are still going today. They last released music back in 2023, but they were much more active in the 90s and 80s. Their last full-length, The Best Kept Secret, dropped in 2007. Listening to Everybody Eats! and seeing the reception it’s gotten so far, Stress Eater could become another successful venture for Esoteric, 7L, and Kool Keith.

Maino Nabs Fabolous For Some New “MainoVation” To End 2024

Hi, haters; Maino closes 2024 with a motivational new EP, cleverly titled MainoVation. Known for his vigorous hustler’s mentality, his latest effort delivers encouraging affirmations, familiar street tales centered around introducing a new perspective on life. “MainoVation is the inspiration and motivation I provide from my perspective,” says the rap star.

Fellow Brooklyn rap star Fabolous joins Maino on the EP. The highlight is their collaboration on “This Life 4Ever.” The two kicked off 2024 with several tracks on Maino’s first of three albums this year, K.O.B. 4. Before MainoVation, he released This Life Forever, featuring the hit songs “How I’m Living” with Fivio Foreign and “Poetry” featuring Young Thug. A music video for “Poetry,” featuring one of Young Thug’s last guest features before being arrested in 2022, was released in February 2024.

The new album follows Maino receiving his own day and key to Brooklyn in 2024. The rap star’s biggest achievement yet. Acknowledged for his community activism, influence, and more. “Hip-hop is more than a genre – it’s a way of healing, growing, and giving back to the neighborhoods that made us,” said 20th Brooklyn Borough President Reynoso last February. “All over Brooklyn and beyond, Maino is recognized as an inspiration because he proves the power of hip-hop to bring us together through good times and bad. Maino Day will serve as a celebration of his legacy and a reminder to Brooklynites to never give up and never forget to spread love.”

Khalid Gives Us More With “Sincere (Deluxe)”

Khalid delivers more new music after a rollercoaster week with the release of the deluxe version of his new album, Sincere. This expanded release adds depth to the project with six new tracks, including collaborations with Normani, Chlöe, and Ayra Starr, showcasing Khalid’s versatility and artistic growth. With two sides, the album’s standout track is “Personal,” which reunites Khalid with Normani for their second collaboration. “Make It Up to You” dives into the artist’s regrets and vulnerabilities in relationships. “MIA” is a track that confronts the uncertainty of distant partners.

The latest album builds on the success of the original album, which debuted at No. 2 on Billboard’s Top R&B Albums chart. The deluxe edition expands on the themes and sonic landscapes introduced in songs like the Alicia Keys-sampled single “Please Don’t Fall in Love with Me,” as well as tracks like “Ground,” “Adore U,” and “Heatstroke.”

Reflecting on the album, Khalid described it as a deeply personal project. “Sincere is a combination of my life experiences. It takes inspiration from conversations I’ve had with fans, supporters, and the people who love me,” he shared. “This album represents me at 26, evolving and continuing to grow with the knowledge I’ve gained over the years.” The El Paso native reaffirms his position as one of R&B’s most innovative voices, blending introspection with genre-blurring artistry.

Roy Woods Crafted “Rolling Stone” Made For One Purpose Only

“This is some of the best music I’ve ever made in my life!! Rolling Stone dropping December 6th… This is just the beginning.” These are words direct from the source of this project’s creator, Roy Woods. Most may remember him for his “Drama” collaboration with his OVO boss, Drake. We wouldn’t blame you if that’s what you mostly associate himself with, as the 2015 Exis cut has over 520 million streams. But don’t think that’s all he’s good for. The Brampton, Ontario native has been holding his own for nearly decade. He may not be a household name, but he’s got one heck of a passionate fan base.

Since they got their hands on the lead single for Rolling Stone, “Hold Still,” back in late October, they have been psyched for what was to come. Well, that is this brief, seven-song tape/EP. Based on his quote at the beginning though, there seems to be a bigger project in the works behind the scenes. For now, let’s focus on what’s in front of us. Rolling Stone is the first body of work since his July 2023 album Mixed Emotions. That featured the likes of Jada Kingdom, Coi Leray, and Vory. On this abbreviated listen, which clocks in at just 20 minutes, Roy is able to stick to one consistent theme. That is music made for the bedroom, and it succeeds at its job. He’s got some great vocal displays across it, especially on the closer with 03 Greedo. Check it out below.

Lil Tjay Brings On Some Huge Guests For Small Tape “Farewell”

After singles galore, Lil Tjay is treating fans with a gift for their “troubles.” It’s a new project titled Farewell, and it’s following up on 2023’s 222. It’s nowhere near as long, as this one spans just eight tracks and is a scant 22 minutes. Where it shares similarities though is that it feels and sounds like an abbreviated version of past LPs. The melodic crooner and rapper details his past, struggles, his hunger to get to the top, while presenting these topics with emotive performances as well.

Some of the singles that were dispersed this year make it onto Farewell, including “Let it Go Baby,” “Told Ya,” and “Good Life.” We began reading into the possibility that Tjay was going to drop a project sometime soon thanks to “Let it Go Baby,” ironically. On the track, he raps, “Been a minute, I ain’t been droppin’, time to go crazy.” Well, that prediction turned out to come true and we have to say we want all the credit. Jokes aside though, Tjay is sounding solid over a majority of the cuts, although, there are some mixing missteps, especially on “Long Way From the Block.” Despite his vocals being too low in the mix, it’s still an enjoyable listen, though. Tjay dropping shorter projects could be a recipe for success because we feel it’s one of his stronger bodies of work. It may feel like a bridge to something bigger, but we firmly believe that he’s got one with Farewell.

Nettspend Shows Some Flashes On His Debut “Bad A*s F*cking Kid”

Nettspend is looking to bring back that Soundcloud era of rap back on his brand-new project, BAD A** F***ING KID. It’s actually his debut mixtape/album and it arrives after a plethora of singles and collaborations dating back to last year. The Virginia native has stuck to a more underground sound but still sticking what’s become synonymous with the Soundcloud platform. That being speaker-busting bass and rough mixing. He’s been creating some excitement around himself because of that, but also due to those linkups we mentioned. He’s been tapping in with the likes of New York producer evilgiane and ok, but also gaining the respect of music platform Lyrical Lemonade.

Leading up to BAD A** F***ING KID, Nettspend did share quite a few singles. However, due to some clearance complications, they were axed. So, that leaves listeners 15 fresh tracks, which equals a runtime of just 31 minutes. There are also zero features, so Nettspend was looking to deliver a true solo project for his inaugural release. So far, the reviews are highly mixed, with some seeing true potential moving forward and others feeling it’s too unoriginal. If we were to compare this and the artist to someone recent, we feel he comes closest to an ian. The vibe around him right now is very similar to that of Nettspend’s. Right now, we are leaning more towards the camp that needs to see more from him. The production has some intriguing elements. But Nettspend has to get through some natural growth first before we can start seeing what others are already claiming to envision for the youngster.

Smino Looks Inward On Mellow New Album “Maybe In Nirvana”

Nobody sounds like Smino. The St. Louis rapper has been forthright about his musical influences, but he’s able to put such a unique spin on them that he always sounds like himself. Smino continues to prove that he is carving his own hip hop lane with his new album, Maybe In Nirvana. In an era largely defined by overly-long, unfocused projects, Smino treats fans to a concise, ten-track exploration of himself and the people in his life. “Dear Fren,” the first proper track, employs one of the strangest Smino vocals to date, but his lyrics keep the listener engrossed from start to finish.

Mellow is definitely the operative word for Maybe In Nirvana. The album may traffic in emotional strife and turmoil, but Smino packages it within smooth melodies and soulful instrumentation. The title track is the closest the album to a bop, thanks to the snappy drums and the whistle sample. Smino raps with the utmost conviction, which makes his pivot to singing on the next song, “Lee,” all the more impressive. He can do it all, while still maintaining sonic cohesion. Maybe In Nirvana may just be Smino’s most focused album to date, which is saying a lot. It’s the sort of the album that gets better with each new listen.

YoungBoy Never Broke Delivers With “I Just Got A Lot On My Shoulders”

YoungBoy Never Broke Again is always making music. He’s one of the most consistent rappers of the decade in terms of output. He’s dropped six albums in the last five years, and amassed a devoted fan base thanks to his singular delivery. I Just Got a Lot on My Shoulders is not a cheerful affair, as the title suggests. YoungBoy Never Broke Again is feeling the weight of stardom and the weight of his lifestyle, but he’s able to synthesize it in a manner that’s compelling to hear about.

“Versace Shades” and “Never Stopping” are a perfect one-two punch to kick off the album. They are energetic and impassioned, while still feeling emotionally weighty. YoungBoy Never Broke Again does not sound like he’s having fun so much as he needs to vent his feelings in order to get back to normalcy. It leads to standout cuts like “Hope You Make It” and “Killa Season.” The latter is especially menacing due to its menacing production and YoungBoy’s trash talk. The slower cuts on the album are of equal quality. Sonically, “My Love” and “Sneaking” take more of a melodic, R&B approach, which makes for a unique musical tension when paired with YoungBoy Never Broke Again’s strained vocals. I Just Got a Lot on My Shoulders isn’t going to win over many new fans, but it will more than satisfy YoungBoy’s fans.
