Lil Wayne is someone who has certainly given his share of props to his peers. Overall, Wayne is an elder statesman in hip-hop. He has been rapping since he was a teenager and remains one of the genre’s GOAT artists. Although his output has slowed down over the years, there is no doubt that he made a lot of music in his youth. He put out a slew of mixtapes and is considered to be the greatest mixtape artist ever. Needless to say, he has the credentials necessary to speak on other mixtapes from his contemporaries.

Recently, Wayne and 2 Chainz were on Complex where they did the “GOAT Talk” series. In this show, artists speak on what they believe to be the GOAT in a wide range of domains. In the episode below, Wayne and 2 Chainz are asked about their favorite mixtapes of all time. When it came to 2 Chainz, he chose the DJ Drama-hosted tapes Trap Or Die, The Dedication, and his own project, T.R.U. Religion. However, Wayne had a very simple answer: 56 Nights by Future.

Lil Wayne Vouches For Future

For those of you who may not know, 56 Nights is a mixtape that was made after DJ Esco was freed from a prison in the Middle East. After being imprisoned for weed, no one knew if Esco would ever come home. Not to mention, he lost a ton of music that was made with Future. It was an emotional time for Esco and Future, but they came out on the other side better than ever. In many ways, this is the mixtape that changed some of the general perceptions around Future. Overall, there are some amazing tracks here, including the title song, and “March Madness.”

French Montana’s “Mac & Cheese 5” Gets Official Release Date

French Montana’s next project is fast-approaching, and based on his most recent announcement, it’s going to be a part of history. Moreover, he announced on Friday (November 24) on social media that his next mixtape, Mac & Cheese 5, is officially scheduled for release on January 5, 2024. As such, the Moroccan-American MC’s upcoming tape will join the series that started with Mac Wit Da Cheese almost a decade and a half ago in 2009. “Mac n cheese 5 january 5th [calendar emoji] [exclamation mark emoji],” he captioned a teaser trailer on Instagram. “LETS FINISH WHAT WE STARTED [newspaper emoji] This one for the books ! [wave emoji] [surfer emoji] #freemaxb #foreverchinx.”

In addition, he also provided a tease of a new song and music video with this post. “Hard life…” French Montana says in the video tease. “Excuses gon’ make today easy, but tomorrow hard. Discipline gon’ make today hard, but tomorrow easy.” His last album was the 2023 tape Coke Boys 6 with DJ Drama, and that Gangsta Grillz project also came out in early January. Looks like that’s a solid season for drops for the 39-year-old.

Furthermore, he actually has plenty of reason to celebrate these days; not just regarding the announcement of this new mixtape, but also his 39th birthday on November 9. French Montana celebrated an elaborate birthday bash and invited plenty of famous friends to the party, including Chirsean Rock, Offset, Chris Brown, and many more. He even got a zebra for the occasion, too, and received a birthday shoutout from his friend Max B while in prison. Overall, it seems like the “Unforgettable” artist is keeping this celebratory streak up all the way through the holidays and into Mac & Cheese 5.

Meanwhile, other outings he was on didn’t end up being the most fruitful endeavors. Lloyd Banks To Sell Upcoming Mixtape For $100

Pusha T and DJ Drama’s upcoming Gangsta Grillz mixtape is one of the most anticipated hip-hop projects right now… or is it? Of course, fans want it to hit physical and digital shelves, but a recent and confusing update suggests that it might be in limbo. Moreover, Drama responded on Wednesday (October 18) to a fan asking about the record on Twitter. Given that he only included a thinking emoji in his quote-tweet, fans quickly assumed that he might be “wondering” or “waiting on” an update just as much as fans are. Still, this is purely speculative, and it’s borderline impossible to tell what the Philly legend actually meant.

Considering the incredible run that both artists have had in the 2010s and 2020s, in addition to their decades-long careers, this Gangsta Grillz tape can’t be anything less than flames in fans’ eyes. Pusha T has multiple acclaimed albums under his belt, both recently as a solo artist and historically as a member of Clipse. On the other hand, DJ Drama is more in-demand than ever, with projects like Tyler, The Creator’s CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST and a first-ever Latino Gangsta Grillz mixtape with Puerto Rican trapper YOVNGCHIMI contributing to his strong presence in rap these days. He’s always been here, but more and more people are putting respect on his name that he deserves.

DJ Drama’s Vague Pusha T Gangsta Grillz Tape Update

Back in February, DJ Drama got things fired up during a Complex conversation on the 2023 Grammys red carpet. “The Pusha T Gangsta Grillz definitely gonna be spicy,” he said. “I feel like it could potentially be the next mixtape to win a Grammy.” Meanwhile, this is what the Virginia spitter had to say about the project in an interview with XXL this year. “I’m working on a special mixtape,” he remarked. “To have the fun I want to have. What I’m trying to do is restore the feeling in every aspect of this subgenre of music. And just of this cloth, of this taste level. I’m just trying to make people realize how viable this is. To show people that I can’t do what you do, but you definitely can’t do what I do. I have to show those differences. That’s the whole premise behind the mixtape.

“I just feel like to me, the Gangsta Grillz and the whole mixtape culture and scene is what I’m about,” Push continued. “That’s the purest form of hip-hop to me. The fact that Drama is having so much success, the fact that that’s what I love in hip-hop, I want to merge those worlds and see what happens. Sematary is back just in time for October with a new EP, King Of The Graveyard. He kicked things off right with the EP’s lead single last week, giving fans a taste of what was to come. The single is joined by a haunting accompanying music video which takes place in, you guessed it, a graveyard.

The 22-year-old performer is seen dancing along to the unapologetically spooky track, fittingly adorned with a crown while he waves around a weapon. Heavy production meets distorted vocals and ghoulish ad-libs, making the track the perfect addition to Halloween playlists everywhere. The new EP follows Sematary’s collab with Blp Kosher which he dropped off in June, “Huntin Wabbits.” It also follows his January release, Butcher House. The 12-track project saw features from Buckshot, Hackle, Turnabout and more.

Sematary Gets Spooky With New EP

He also tapped Turnabout for his new King Of The Graveyard EP, teaming up with the 19-year-old producer for “3AM Gang.” Sematary stays true to his roots with this latest project, combining menacing lyrics with gothic themes and reminding listeners that he’s a true “grave man.”

Sematary chatted with Complex at Summer Smash back in June, revealing that the highlight of his year so far has been landing a Chief Keef feature. “I got a Sosa feature on my song,” he told the outlet. “With Zac FTP for the FTP album. It’s called ‘F*ck The World.’ I got Chief Keef on my sh*t, so no one can ever say sh*t about me now. Like he made all of this, there ain’t no any of this without him.
