The 50th anniversary of hip-hop has brought plenty of excitement back into the genre this year. Artists both new and old are showing out in celebration of the boundary-pushing genre, which has helped many of them make millions and live out their dreams. Apple Music specifically has been doing their part to celebrate by bringing in select artists to make songs exclusively available on the streaming platform. Among them is Baby Tate, who reimagined a throwback Ludacris song for her contribution, “My Biznazz.”

As Uproxx notes, the reality starlet covers the Fast & Furious actor’s 2001 fan favourite, “Rollout (My Business)” nearly word-for-word, though there are a few modern updates. “I got my twin Glock .40s, cocked back / Me and my homies, so drop that / We rolling on twenties, with the top back / So much money, you can’t stop that,” she rhymes twice on the chorus. Tate’s listeners are more than pleased to hear new music from her, especially after she reminded us that she’s “only getting better” when sharing salacious thirst traps on her birthday last month.

Apple Music has joined the celebration of hip-hop’s 50th anniversary with a series of exclusive tracks by various rap artists. The latest is Baby Tate, the Atlanta rising star who is currently surging on TikTok thanks to her resurfaced track “Hey Mickey!” and its new remix featuring Saweetie. Tate pays homage to a hometown hero with her exclusive track, “My Biznazz,” which finds the second-generation performer covering Ludacris’ classic 2001 hit “Rollout (My Business).”

Baby Tate is a few months removed from the release of her Mani/Pedi mixtape, as well as a 2022 that saw her collab with Babyface, assist fellow ATLien JID on his new album, and lyrically spank Hitmaka for making questionable comments about female rappers.

Meanwhile, Ludacris has been receiving increased acknowledgment for his contributions to the hip-hop canon recently, getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame (albeit for his acting rather than rapping), landing a slot on the upcoming Hip-Hop 50 lineup for Rock The Bells Festival, and being flawlessly sampled by the younger hip-hop generation.

Jay-Z shared that he thought Ludacris’ lyrical abilities were often underrated, and indeed, the Fast X star’s impact in rap shouldn’t be swept under the rug. Quite some time has passed since the entertainer has released an album of his own, but his past releases often find their way onto the music charts thanks to clever samples by today’s rising acts.

Rapper Kali didn’t realize she was referencing Ludacris on her song, “Area Codes,” but Jack Harlow sure did when he sampled Fergie’s 2007 song “Glamorous,” which featured Ludacris. Harlow’s chart-topping single “First Class” earned him Ludacris’ respect and official co-sign. During an appearance in a new GQ video, Ludacris spoke about Harlow’s breakout track.

When asked if he was approving of the usage of the sample, the musician said, “How can I not be OK with it? I’m doing shows, and there’s a whole new generation that is identifying with the record, even if they haven’t heard my verse, simply because Jack Harlow is doing it over.”

He added, “I feel like he did it justice. It would be different if it was a poor rendition, but it’s not. Jack Harlow did it exceptionally well, and I enjoy the record.”

In her recent Complex interview, 22-year-old rapper Kali revealed that she didn’t know Ludacris’ 2001 track, “Area Codes.” This took many social media users by surprise, as she’s recently landed herself a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for her song of the same name. She described coming up with the concept of “Area Codes” organically, claiming that Ludacris’ track had no influence on her song.

“I didn’t even know there was any connection,” she explained. Kali also went on to say, “Like, I never heard the Ludacris song before. So when people asked me that, I truly didn’t know what they were talking about. It was just super organic. When I hear people saying, ‘Oh, this is a Ludacris homage,’ I’m like, ‘Okay, but I really didn’t know anything about it.’ It was just like I literally felt like I got hoes in different area codes.”

After the interview came out, social media users were quick to share their opinons. “Honestly if that Kali girl didn’t realize she was basically quoting Ludacris on that area codes song, then someone else wrote that joint and just ain’t tell her,” one user claimed. “Lmaoooo,” another writes, “I love Kali but come on now, Ludacris’ ‘Area Codes’ was a hit. I refuse to believe that she never heard it in her life.”

Some fans came to the young rapper’s defense, however. One wrote, “Hoes In different area codes is a common phrase Bffr.” The fan also added, “y’all just be mad that new rappers don’t listen to ppl YALL consider to be rap legends. Why Tf would Kali be listening to any and every Georgia rapper? Some ppl just don’t listen to Ludacris that’s…a thing y’all.” Another said, “I HAVE NEVER heard Ludacris song ‘AREA CODES’ they tryna make it seem like Kali soooo wrong for not knowing that wack a*s sh*t. Ludacris Was Surprised That “Southern Hospitality” Was A Hit

Ludacris has let fans in on a surprising tidbit about one of his biggest hits. The rapper recently appeared on the All The Smoke podcast hosted by Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. There, Ludacris dropped a surprising revelation about one of his chart-topping hits. Despite his successful career, he admitted that the song “Southern Hospitality” from 2000 took him by surprise. Apparently, it was initially created as a rush job to complete an album.

Luda shared that the track was produced at the eleventh hour to revamp his independent album, Incognegro. This was for his major label debut, Back For the First Time. He credited Pharrell and Chad, known as The Neptunes, for their ability to deliver a hit even at the last minute. Luda then reflected on the creative process. The rapper-turned-actor explained that when he first heard the beat, he vibed with it and thought it was cool. However, he didn’t anticipate the song’s immense success. “I did not know that it was the hit that it became,” Luda said.

Luda On Why He Isn’t Given Credit As a Lyricist

Recalling the writing process, Ludacris mentioned sitting in his car in the studio parking lot, penning lyrics to the instrumental freshly cooked up by Pharrell and Chad. Although he felt it was good, he admitted that others around him believed the record had the potential to be a huge hit. Ludacris also reflected on why some people don’t seem to give him credit as a lyricist.

“JAY-Z was one of the ones that said, you know, he don’t think I get the lyrical credit that I deserve because of the visuals,” Luda revealed. “People ask me, ‘Why don’t you think get the credit?’ Because I played too goddamn much, that’s what I do! And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Before Ludacris starred in box office films such as Fast X, he was one of the most impactful Southern rappers. Although his Hollywood Walk Of Fame star is credited to his lengthy filmography credits, he hasn’t forgotten the big music shoes he left behind. However, there are pockets of success that he had as an artist that still shocks him.

During a sit-down with All The Smoke podcast hosted by former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, he reflected on his biggest hits, including his single “Southern Hospitality.” Co-produced by Pharrell Williams, Ludacris did not expect the 2000 song would take off the way it did.

“If anybody can give you a hit at the last minute, it’s Pharrell, Chad, and The Neptunes. He throws on this beat, and I’m vibing to it. I’m thinking it’s cool. I’m not like thinking, ‘This is a hit… I did not know that it was the hit that it became,” exclaimed the entertainer.

Jay-Z Told Ludacris Why He Thinks Luda Doesn’t Get The ‘Lyrical Credit’ He’s Owed

The “Top 5, dead or alive“/ Mount Rushmore of Rap conversation resurfaces online every few months, giving fans another opportunity to debate the best lyricists the genre has produced. However, one rapper feels that he’s been unfairly left out of the discussion. Ludacris was a dominant force throughout the 2000s, with a slew of hits and respected guest verses, but recently revealed he doesn’t think he gets enough credit for his lyrics.

Appearing on the All The Smoke podcast, Luda told hosts Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson that Jay-Z once offered a theory for fans’ resistance to giving him his flowers. “Jay-Z was one of the ones that said, you know, he don’t think I get the lyrical credit that I deserve because of the visuals,” Ludacris recalled. “People ask me, ‘Why don’t you think get the credit?’ Because I played too goddamn much, that’s what I do! And I wouldn’t have it any other way. That’s why my name is Ludacris because it’s beyond crazy, it’s wild, it’s ridiculous.”

Jay may have a point. Ludacris garnered plenty of attention with his eye-popping, humorous music videos. Whether he was floating upside down through the streets of Atlanta, mauling obnoxious partygoers with cartoonishly muscular arms, or carrying a literal little person on his necklace, Luda went out of his way to make sure the videos for many of his biggest hits were memorable. But maybe they were so memorable for their comedy people forgot to remember that he was rapping his ass off in the songs themselves.

However, he still enjoyed tremendous success in his day, and continues to receive accolades like a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame — albeit for his acting rather than his rapping. That’s kind of fitting when you think about it. Of course, I have a controversial theory of my own, which I shared here.

Ludacris Shares Why ‘Fast and Furious’ Movies Keep Coming: ‘We’re Making Billions’

Fast X is currently furiously running up the millions at the global box office. But some movie watchers are asking why this is still going on. Ludacris gave a simple answer; we are rolling in billions of dollars.

Speaking on All The Smoke, Ludacris revealed why the question of “why another Fast movie” is “the dumbest fucking question in the world.

“No matter what industry we in, podcasts, music, movies, it’s all about a bottom line,” Luda said. “It’s about how much you spend compared to how much you make. We’re making billions of fucking dollars, and I’m just giving you my heart I’m not trying to brag or nothing.”

He added, “if you spend 200 million and you make a billion, who the fuck is you gonna tell to stop shooting movies when you’re making 800 million dollars?

He makes a valid point.

Fast & Furious will never die. With one of the final (?) chapters of the Fast Franchise in theaters, Vin Diesel has revealed a spin-off series is in development. Speaking with Variety, Vin Diesel said he will dive into new stories once he wraps the original.

“I started developing the female spinoff…in 2017 with other spinoffs, and the sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch all the projects,” Diesel said.

With a woman-led spinoff in the works, Diesel’s co-star Michelle Rodrigez, who plays Letty, isn’t sure about returning for it. “You pass the baton on. You take the back seat,” she said. “You go passenger side. When it comes the next generation, you have to. It’s the only way to let them define the future.”

Fast X raced into box offices this past weekend behind an impressive $67.5 million opening weekend in America, replacing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy 3 at the top spot.
