Daniel Caesar Gave A Tender Performance Of ‘Let Me Go’ On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Daniel Caesar’s new album Never Enough arrives in just one week. Singles like “Do You Like Me,” “Let Me Go,” and “Valentina” are holding fans over in the meantime, so he brought one to late-night television.

On Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Canadian singer gave a thoughtful performance of “Let Me Go.” With a floor covered in fog and colorful lights making everything radiant, the live rendition of the song is even more emotional and tender than the recorded version as he croons the heart-wrenching hook, “Baby, won’t you let me go?” It’s a meditative, poignant experience that the crowd is lucky to witness in real life.

It makes sense that his upcoming shows emphasize intimacy. The Almost Enough: The Intimate Sessions tour is only hitting small-cap venues in order to help him connect with fans on a deeper level when he plays his new material to audiences.

“A chance for me to sing the album to a select few fans that have really been here since the beginning,” he explained on Instagram. “Excited to connect with each and every one of you.”

Daniel Caesar Gets Vulnerable On Beautiful New “Let Me Go” Single: Stream

Though he was cancelled by many in the music community a few years ago, Daniel Caesar seems poised to make a grand comeback in 2023. His first single of the season, “Do You Like Me?” landed at the end of January, and has since amassed upwards of seven million streams on Spotify. Following that, his “Let Me Go” track came this New Music Friday (February 10).

The emotional title finds the R&B vocalist pleading with a lover to relinquish their grip on him. “I’m tryna breathe, why won’t you let me? / I’m tryna leave, please just forget me,” the first verse begins. “And honestly, our sun is setting / Can hardly believe this got so messy.”

“Let Me Go” will appear on Caesar’s upcoming album, apparently called Brutus Embarks. The effort will mark his first release since 2019’s CASE STUDY 01, which found him working alongside greats like Pharrell Williams and John Mayer. Additionally, he was joined by Brandy on one of the project’s most popular titles, “LOVE AGAIN.”

As REVOLT notes, the 27-year-old hinted that he’s entering a new musical era in the caption of a recent Instagram post. “Hello, world. I was born a few minutes ago and I’m already learning,” Caesar wrote at the time. “This isn’t supposed to be a beginning, just a long way from before. I see most of me in almost every one of you. Mirror, mirror. There is so much to talk about, we’re closer than you think. For now, let’s just call this the beginning.”

Quotable Lyrics:

I’m not afraid of manipulation
Stuck in your ways, I’ve run out of patience
You’re lying when you tell me that you won’t be fine
I’m not leadin’ you on I’m leavin’ you behind

Daniel Caesar Gets Brutally Honest On His New Single, ‘Let Me Go’

After dropping his vulnerable new single, “Do You Like Me?” last week, Daniel Caesar has shared another new track. On the brutally honest “Let Me Go,” Caesar warns a woman that he may not be the one for her. He advises her to let him go before things get too toxic.

“Ain’t gonna sleep tonight / My dreams exhaust me / I’ll be awake, ‘til the light / It’s bout that time that I, break away / before my time expires / Baby won’t you let me go,” he sings.

The song’s instrumental is equal parts dreamy and hypnotic, as Caesar‘s vocals shine through, creating a saccharine air amid tambourines and sultry guitars.

According to a press statement accompanied by the song’s release, “Let Me Go” precedes “an exciting announcement to come from Caesar next week.”

Perhaps it could be news about his upcoming album. This time last year, Caesar revealed to Complex that he was working on a new album, and that he was taking inspiration from Michael Haneke films, particularly one called Funny Games.

“That movie is crazy,” he said. “I can’t believe I’ve lived my whole life without knowing about it. The White Ribbon, The Piano Teacher are great films of his, too.”
