Who is Desiigner?

New York rapper Desiigner made headlines recently after he exposed himself and masturbated while on a flight en route to Thailand. After the incident, Desiigner announced on social media that he was checking himself into a mental health facility for help. While the “Panda” rapper found great success in 2016 and the few years that followed, updates on the Desiigner’s life had been quiet until this recent incident. Although most Hip-Hop fans are familiar with hits such as “Panda” and “Timmy Turner,” little is known about the man behind them. Let’s take a look at Desiigner’s life and answer the question: Who is Desiigner?

Desiigner’s Early Life & Career

Desiigner grew up in the Louis Armstrong housing projects of the Bed-Stuy neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. His grandfather was a famous blues musician named Sidney “Guitar Crusher” Selby. As a child, Desiigner sang in the school and church choir. Along with this, he began making music at age fourteen.

Desiigner’s original rap name was “Dezolo,” yet he eventually began releasing tracks under the name “Designer Royel.” Desiigner’s sister told him to drop the “Royel” and rap under the name Desiigner. On December 3, 2015, Desiigner released his debut song “Zombie Walk.” The song features production from The Shell God. Later that same month, he would release the song that led to his overnight success in “Panda.”

The Success Of “Panda”

Desiigner first released “Panda” to Soundcloud in December of 2015. Just five days later, “Panda” was available on all streaming sites. The initial buzz “Panda” created came from the similarities of Desiigner’s voice and rapping style to Future. When the song first hit the internet, many fans believed it was Future rapping, and Desiigner faced online backlash due to claims that he was “biting” Future’s flow.

Despite this, “Panda” found great success. Ironically, Desiigner purchased the beat for the song, which was produced by Menace, for $200 after finding it on YouTube. The hook of the song compares the look of a BMW X6 to that of a panda. In February of 2016, “Panda” was re-released to streaming sites and went from an internet hit to mainstream success.

In March of 2016, “Panda” debuted on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts. Just nine weeks later, the song reached No. 1 on the Hot 100. At the time, Desiigner was only 18 years old, making him one of the youngest artists to ever have a No. 1 single. Along with this, Desiigner became the first rapper from New York in a decade to have a No. 1 single. The song’s success caught the attention of many top artists, as rappers such as Meek Mill, T-Pain, and Fabolous subsequently remixed the song. It also caught Kanye West’s attention who, at the time, ran the G.O.O.D. Music label.

Signing To G.O.O.D. Music & XXL Freshman List

In the midst of “Panda’s” success, Desiigner signed to Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label in February of 2016. Just days after he was signed, Kanye released his seventh album The Life Of Pablo, which featured Desiigner on two songs. The song “Pt. 2” featured “Panda” and gave even more exposure to the hit. The other feature came on the song “Freestyle 4.” In May of 2016, Mike Dean announced he would be the executive producer on Desiigner’s first full-length project and that it was in the works.

In June of 2016, Desiigner graced the cover of XXL as he made their “Freshmen Class” for 2016. His freestyle for XXL, “Timmy Turner” also made waves and eventually led to another hit song. In that same month, Desiigner’s debut mixtape New English was released on Tidal by G.O.O.D. Music. The mixtape received mixed reviews, yet it showed the label’s desire to push Desiigner into stardom. Despite this, the next few years displayed a decline in popularity for Desiigner.

“Timmy Turner” To Present Day

In July of 2016, Desiigner released his second hit “Timmy Turner.” The song was a full length track based on Desiigner’s XXL freestyle. While it did not reach the same heights as “Panda,” “Timmy Turner” did reach No. 98 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and is certified Platinum. A remix of the song was also released and features Kanye. However, despite the successes of both songs, Desiigner would not release another single until February 2017 with “Outlet.”

After this, Desiigner would only release one other project, an EP titled L.O.D. in 2018. By 2018, it seemed that Desiigner’s short-lived fame was all but over. While the rapper continued to release singles, no full-length projects were in the works and nothing the rapper dropped could reach the heights of “Panda” or “Timmy Turner.” In addition to this, Desiigner left the G.O.O.D. Music label in 2019.

Desiigner explained his reasons for leaving G.O.O.D. Music in an interview with DJ Vlad in 2022. In the interview, he stated, “The reason why I left Ye is ’cause I was going through a little mental thing. I was just coming up out of high school, my pops just went into a coma. While I was on tour, I was having a great time but I just knew something at home was happening with my mom and my pop’s health and shit. So it was just like, I wanted Ye to talk to and it was hard to speak on it.”

Since then, Desiigner has continued to make music and tour. With his recent incident, the rapper seems to be spending more time focusing on his mental health and recovery. In addition to this, on May 3, Desiigner stated that he is currently at a mental health facility. Let’s hope that Desiigner can get back on his feet and continue to pursue his musical career.

Adidas Hit With Catastrophic Losses Amid Kanye Fallout

In case you haven’t noticed, Adidas is struggling right now. Overall, there is a very good reason for this. However, it is still a big problem for the brand. Recently, they had to cut all ties with Kanye West. In the end, he didn’t really leave them much of a choice. Although he had made lots of money for them, his moral character was just simply too disturbing to keep around. After a Nazi obsession that had fans cutting him off, Adidas pulled the plug. Consequently, they are feeling the effects.

According to XXL, Adidas released a first-quarter report today. CEO Bjørn Gulden was very upfront and brutally honest in this report. As it stands, Adidas is looking at a $771 million operating loss this year. Moreover, they already have $661 million in lost sales, as well as a $565 million net loss. To make matters even worse, they have $1.3 billion worth of Yeezy products that they can’t do anything with. This includes over $500 million in sneakers.

Adidas Is Having A Rough Go Of Things

“The adverse Yeezy impact and negative currency developments weighed on the gross margin development,” The Adidas CEO explained. “This could not be offset by the significant positive effect from the price increases the company has implemented…Should the company irrevocably decide not to repurpose any of the existing Yeezy product going forward, this would result in the potential write-off of the existing Yeezy inventory and would lower the company’s operating profit by an additional [$551] million this year.”

At this point, Adidas has some very difficult decisions to make. With Yeezy gone from the brand, they will have to reinvent themselves. While some fans will always love the three stripes imprint, the hype is completely gone. Hype is usually unsustainable, and Adidas has figured that out the hard way. Let us know what you think of this, in the comments section down below. Additionally, stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news from around the sneaker world.

Adidas Still Has Over $1 Billion In Yeezy Products Sitting Around It Doesn’t Know What To With

When Kanye West and Adidas ended their business partnership last year, it left the athletic apparel giant in a bind. According to Associated Press via Rolling Stone, that’s left the athletic apparel company with $1.3 billion of unsold product with which it does not know what to do. Adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden said during a conference call today that “options are narrowing,” but the company is “getting closer and closer to making a decision.”

Unfortunately, there’s no real win here for Adidas, since selling the shoes would force the company to pay royalties to West, while removing the Yeezy branding could be seen as dishonest. Giving them away means lost profit as does destroying them all, which Adidas is “trying to avoid.” Gulden also didn’t want to reveal just how much backstock the company is sitting on because of the effect that could have on demand, but did admit that the split is “of course hurting us.”

However, it likely would have hurt Adidas — a company with questionable origins — even more, in the long run, to keep Kanye on. The mercurial rapper had always been a controversial figure but became downright toxic last year, sharing antisemitic views on social media and in a string of bizarre interviews with right-wing figures. He also terrorized employees at Adidas, even displaying porn during meetings — an HR nightmare if ever there was one.

Adidas could take even more of a hit now that shareholders have filed a class-action lawsuit against the company for not cutting ties with Kanye sooner. The suit claims that higher-ups at Adidas knew Kanye was a liability and kept working with him anyway, deeming the risk to its stock price worth it for the revenue the association generated. Adidas’ response said its leaders “outright reject these unfounded claims,” but between losing its Kanye and Beyoncé partnerships in the span of a year, the company can’t deny it’s made some costly mistakes.

Yeezy Season 10: Kanye West’s Latest Runway Has Nazi Links, Stem Player Points Out

Just a few weeks ago, it seemed as though Kanye West was preparing to spend some time out of the spotlight. He cancelled his bid for the presidency and is focused on spending time with his wife, Bianca Censori. However, the embattled artist made a noteworthy return earlier this week. He surprisingly hosted a secret Yeezy Season 10 fashion show at a small venue in Los Angeles. Some were happy to see Ye returning to his creative roots after countless months of chaos. Others, like the Stem Player company who previously cut ties with him due to his troubling antics, couldn’t help but notice the apparent Nazism links shown throughout the collection.

As HipHopDX notes, the tech company’s Instagram Story shared several photos from the runway event. They made sure to condemn West, making it abundantly clear that they’re no longer connected to him. Many of the images have since been deleted. One compared the “Flashing Lights” hitmaker’s skinhead models kneeling behind a line of candles in an empty warehouse to a snapshot of white nationalists carrying tiki torches in a Charlottesville, Virginia, march held in 2017. Elsewhere, Censori’s white angel wings were said to be the same as a German Reich coat of arms previously worn by Ye in 2022, earning him plenty of backlash.

Stem Player Puts Kanye West on Blast

In their accompanying statement, Stem Player wrote, “Stem is not a part of this. If you found us through far-right politics, this account isn’t for you. If you found us in other ways, clarification over and not needed. Back to building.” West’s latest stunt comes less than a year after he broke the internet with his controversial “White Lives Matter” shirt at the Yeezy Season 9 show in Paris. Interestingly, the father of four reportedly wasn’t in attendance at this week’s LA presentation. At the time, very little was shown in terms of clothing.

Aside from making waves in the world of fashion, the 45-year-old is also stirring up rumours that his presidential campaign may be back on after reconnecting with Milo Yiannopoulos. See footage from Kanye West’s last-minute Yeezy season 10 presentation below. Afterward, share your thoughts on the brand’s latest collection and its apparent Nazi imagery usage in the comments.

Kanye West To Pay $300K After Losing Yeezy SHDZ Lawsuit

Kanye West and his Yeezy brand have certainly gone through their fair share of issues over the last little while. Overall, it mostly started with his crusade against Jewish people. Ultimately, Kanye’s rantings and ravings subsequently led to him being dropped by Adidas. Consequently, he lost a lot of his funding, and the brand hasn’t done much since. Moreover, he has faced quite a few lawsuits from previous employees. More recently, according to HipHopDX, he lost a lawsuit filed by a creative director who worked on his YZY SHDZ campaign.

As the story goes, Katelyn Mooney was contracted to do a last-minute photoshoot for the campaign. This shoot took place on September 13th, and Mooney was able to complete the necessary work without any issues. However, as she alleges, Kanye West never paid her the agreed-upon amount. The amount in question was a whopping $110,000. Instead, Kanye only paid her $15,000, which led to the lawsuit.

“Ms. Mooney was to be fully responsible for every aspect of the photo shoot, including but not limited to hiring models, reserving studio space, procuring lighting, catering, pre-production, and post-production,” the lawsuit explains. “Yeezy had no issues with Ms. Mooney’s work or the final delivered product.” Interestingly enough, Mooney was only seeking $110K in the lawsuit. However, a judge decided that Ye will have to pay $300K instead. Reports from The New York Post reveal that $95K is for actual damages, while $205K is for statutory damage. Needless to say, things are not going well for Kanye and the Yeezy imprint.

To make matters worse here, Ye never responded to the lawsuit when it was first brought across his desk. Overall, this led to a bad outcome for him. The judge was not forgiving of his lack of urgency, and now, Mooney will be getting triple what she was originally supposed to be paid. It remains to be seen how Ye will react to this decision. Stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest news and updates from the sneaker world.

Kanye West Cops New Yeezy Office Right Next Door To Adidas: Report

Kanye West and his relationship with Adidas came to an end last year after a meltdown on social media. Overall, it was clear that Ye wanted out of his deal. However, he went about all of this in the worst way possible. From a crusade against Jewish people to various associations with white supremacists, Ye jumped off the deep end. It was extremely difficult to watch, and at this point, very few people want to be associated with the artist. Regardless, he is still trying to move forward with his endeavors.

For instance, Kanye West is still very much involved in Yeezy, which is now independent. Unfortunately for Ye, there is a lot going wrong right now. The brand is facing lawsuits from previous employees. Additionally, they were kicked out of their previous office for not paying the rent. Now, however, it is being reported by Donda Times on Twitter that Kanye has a new office for his brand. That said, he has decided to troll his previous employer with the new office. Below, you can see what we mean.

A New Yeezy Office Emerges Thanks To Kanye West

Essentially, the new Yeezy office is on Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles. Just a couple of addresses down, you can find an Adidas store. This all takes place between Laurel Avenue and North Edinburgh Avenue. Although, there are no exact details about this new Yeezy office in terms of size. Moreover, it is unknown as to what kind of operations are going down in there. Having said that, it seems like this was a very deliberate move. With all of the office space in the world, why choose a location right next to an Adidas store?

At this point, Adidas and Yeezy are both hurting. Adidas currently has over $500 million in leftover Yeezy products that they can’t sell. Moreover, no one really cares about Yeezys anymore. Ye doesn’t have the resources to produce his shoes at the level he once could. It remains to be seen if the brand will ever get its juice back. Stay tuned to HNHH for the latest news and updates from around the sneaker world.

Kanye West Throws YZY Free Show w/ Frank Ocean’s Music Blaring

Kanye West George Floyd

Kanye West continues to break down barriers and create history in the worlds of music and fashion. Earlier this week, on Monday, Ye hosted a private, super low-key fashion show for his Yeezy Season 10 collection. The event was called “YZY FREE,” and what transpired was not what you’d expect.

According to Highsnobiety, the Chicago native didn’t reveal any clothing or new fashion designs, as expected from his previous fashion shows. Instead, the spotlight was a group of skinhead models wearing skin-tight white t-shirts paired with black pants.

Deemed a “free exhibit,” the festivities were held inside an empty warehouse on Melrose Ave in West Hollywood, California. Rare footage shows some models holding candles as “Self Control” by Frank Ocean blared through the speakers.

While Kanye himself wasn’t present for the show, a photo was seen of himself and his wife, Bianca Censori, preparing for the event earlier that day. Ye was rocking a throwback Umbro Manchester United jacket paired with black leggings (interesting).

While no clear details have surfaced about the YZY FREE being the actual YEEZY SEASON 10 fashion show, this seems to be a good enough teaser to hold fans over. Information on the event was shared to Kanye’s fan pages. This follows Kanye’s previous Yeezy Season 9 fashion show that took place in Paris at the end of last year, where he got dragged for wearing a t-shirt that read White Lives Matter.
