JJ Redick Responds To N-Word Allegations

JJ Redick was recently appointed as the head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Overall, it is a hiring that has been quite controversial. Redick has no coaching experience in the pros, or even college. However, his podcast with LeBron James has demonstrated elite basketball knowledge. On Tuesday, Redick found himself being scrutinized for another reason. In a tweet from Halleemah Nash, Redick was accused of calling the woman the N-word while she was working with the Duke basketball team.

“I’ve only been called the N word to my face by a white man once in my life and it was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team,” Nash wrote. “And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.” Subsequently, this tweet went viral, and NBA fans were trying to make sense of all of this. Numerous questions were raised, and some pondered whether or not Redick would lose his job.

JJ Redick Accusation

According to TMZ, Redick’s team has put out a short statement about the controversy. “No, it never happened,” the spokesperson said. Since the tweet came out, neither the Lakers, LeBron James, nor ESPN has said anything. This morning, fans are curious as to whether or not Stephen A. Smith will tackle this on First Take. Either way, this is not a good look for Redick or the Lakers franchise, who were already under scrutiny for hiring him, in the first place.

JJ Redick Accused Of Calling Someone The N-Word During His Time At Duke

The Los Angeles Lakers are always going to be a hot topic on the world sports. However, they are sure to produce multiple headlines a day after the hiring of JJ Redick on June 20. So far, the former sharpshooter has already heard a lot of noise surrounding his credentials. However, he would tell you, “I don’t give a f***”. That might earn him some new supporters. But JJ Redick could lose even more after a former Duke basketball employee accused him of calling her the N-word.

According to BroBible, her name is Halleemah Nash, and she decided to shed light back on this incident. “I’ve only been called the N word to my face by a white man once in my life”, she began. “It was on the campus of Duke University while I was doing work with the basketball team. And today he was named the new head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. What a world.” X users were quick to encourage her to give more context, but she replied by mentioning that people evolve.

Halleemah Nash Shares A Timely Tweet About JJ Redick

“This was years ago and Im a believer that we all have space to grow- especially from our college level maturity. We live in a world where these exchanges happen and the intersection of race and privilege and lack of accountability all collided w/that presser.” The reason for Nash deciding to wait until now to bring this to light is quite interesting. It could do with the fact that she works in the social project space, so she might have felt inclined to remind the Lakers of who they are presumably bringing onboard. So far, though, JJ Redick nor the Lakers have commented on this accusation. So, in the meantime, stick with us going forward for anything else that comes of this storyline.

What are your thoughts on JJ Redick being accused by Halleemah Nash of calling her the N-word? Do you believe her story, why or why not? Do you think the new Lakers head coach will receive any repercussions? We would like to hear what you have to say, so leave your thoughts in the comments. SOURCE SPORTS: Lakers Introduce JJ Redick as New Head Coach

unnamed

On Monday, the Los Angeles Lakers introduced JJ Redick, a 15-year NBA veteran who retired in 2021 and has since made a name for himself as an ESPN analyst, as their new head coach. Redick, 40, recently called the 2024 NBA Finals after his promotion to ESPN’s lead broadcast team but said the opportunity to coach the Lakers was too good to turn down.

Known for his sharpshooting skills, Redick ranks 19th in career 3-pointers made in NBA history. Although he lacks NBA coaching experience, the former two-time First-Team All-American at Duke is confident in his abilities to lead the team.

“I have zero coaching experience in the NBA, but I would argue that I’m very experienced,” Redick said. “I got to play for Coach K for four years, spent 15 years as a player …”

Redick’s transition from media to coaching has been in the works for some time. Despite his success as an analyst, he remained interested in a potential coaching career. After interviewing with the Toronto Raptors last year, Redick began preparing for a move to the sidelines.

Taking on the challenge of coaching the 17-time NBA champion Lakers, Redick is excited about his new role and feels ready for the job. “It’s a dream come true to join such a storied franchise and work with such talented players,” Redick said. “I can’t wait to get started and help lead this team to new heights.”

The Lakers are hopeful that Redick’s experience as a player and his analytical mind will bring fresh insights and strategies to the team. As they look to reclaim their championship status, all eyes will be on Redick as he takes the floor for his NBA coaching debut.

Redick added, “Sitting in this seat, I know what the expectations are … It’s my job, it’s our staff’s job, it’s Rob’s job, to deliver a championship caliber team. That’s what I signed up for.”

JJ Redick To Formally Interview With Lakers After Dan Hurley Rejection

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, JJ Redick will have a formal interview to become the Los Angeles Lakers’ next coach this weekend. If he does well, the team will likely consider him as their frontrunner. A successful interview will persuade the Lakers to move to sign him as their head coach. At the Chicago draft combine last month, Lakers vice president and general manager Rob Pelinka had a more than ninety-minute meeting with ESPN NBA commentator and 15-year player Redick. According to insiders, Pelinka and business owner Jeanie Buss will be attending meetings in Los Angeles, where a thorough discussion of the position will be had.

Redick and Pelinka have spoken over the phone recently. According to insiders, Redick is aware of and accepts Pelinka’s prolonged courtship of Connecticut coach Dan Hurley, which at first put a stop to Redick’s candidacy. Hurley rejected a six-year, $70 million contract offer from the Lakers on Monday, according to sources. Now, it looks like JJ Redick is back in the driver’s seat. The job he has been rumored to be his for the taking for weeks.

JJ Redick To Interview With Lakers

According to sources, Redick will present his case to Pelinka, Buss, and other top decision-makers in Los Angeles during an all-day meeting. According to reports, Pelinka still desires a teaching coach and staff that will put an emphasis on the growth of young players like Max Christie, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura. They also want a staff that can show innovative ways to feature Anthony Davis on both ends of the court. This is similar to what he accomplished with Hurley. LeBron James, a star player for the Lakers, and Redick co-host a basketball podcast. Overall, the two have a close friendship.

JJ Redick will continue to cover the NBA Finals with ESPN. Though they might be wrapped up by Friday night, looking at how the Mavs have been playing. That would leave Redick time to interview and go all out for the Lakers’ opening. JJ is still making his podcast with LeBron James. The biggest question fans should have is if they will continue to podcast together next season. Overall, a head coach plodding with their star player might be a recipe for disaster.

Shams Charania Seemingly Takes Shot At Adrian Wojnarowski Over Lakers Dan Hurley Scoop

There is still no basketball coach on the Los Angeles Lakers roster to take over Darvin Ham’s role. After weeks of speculation, ESPN commentator JJ Redick appeared to be the clear favorite to land the position. However, in the final days, Dan Hurley, the coach of UConn, emerged as the front-runner and later declined a contract offer from the franchise. The campaigns of Redick and Hurley were closely linked to reporting by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN and Shams Charania of The Athletic, respectively. Wojnarowski broke the news of Hurley’s interest in the role. Charania was often the most well-known national reporter, stating that Redick was in the lead.

The two had a lengthy connection. Last year, a feature in New York magazine compared their back and forth to a “cold war.” On Tuesday, Charania appeared to be relishing the chance to outdo his former master, seemingly taking a shot at him. “Then they, last week, on Wednesday, turned their attention, I’m told, to Dan Hurley,” Charania said on FanDuel TV. “And, he was not the No. 1 candidate, the No. 1 guy to go pursue from the start, from the beginning.” he refutes Woj’s assertion that Dan Hurley was the Laker’s number one option from the beginning.

Shams Charania Seemingly Takes Shot At Adrian Wojnarowski

This contradicts several reports by Wojnarowski. Woj said in his original piece that “Hurley has been at the forefront of the Lakers’ search from the beginning of the process, even while the organization has done its due diligence interviewing several other candidates.” Notably, Wojnarowski reported a month ago that the Lakers were considering Redick as part of their “wide-ranging and lengthy search.” Both Charania and Wojnarowski concur that Hurley was not the only person the organization interviewed.

However, Charania made other remarks about Hurley’s candidacy that gave the impression that he was disparaging Wojnarowski. When Charania went on Pat McAfee’s show, which is shown on ESPN naturally, she came across as rather skeptical of the Hurley issue as a whole. “If the Lakers wanna go hire James Borrego, they’ve had a month to hire James Borrego,” Charania said. “They’ve had this week, after losing out on Dan Hurley, I guess, they’ve had this time to go get James Borrego.” overall, the battle between Shams and Woj will wage on.

Shannon Sharpe Reveals Why LeBron James And JJ Redick’s Podcast Is Destined For Failure

Shannon Sharpe has two successful podcasts, so he is familiar with what makes a good show. However, the success of Nightcap and Club Shay Shay is not really due to anyone’s intelligence of any specific subject matter. Of course, Sharpe has an edge and offers insight and understanding about football that goes beyond the surface. The same is true for Chad (Ochcino) Johnson. However, each show’s entertainment value is its primary selling point. Shannon Sharpe said on First Take today that Lebron’s podcast with JJ Redick won’t survive because it is solely about Xs and Os and not entertainment.

For this reason, Sharpe provided his evaluation of the Mind the Game podcast with LeBron James and JJ Redick. On Monday’s First Take, Sharpe contended that James and the Los Angeles Lakers’ prospective head coach would need to change their conversational approach from discussing Xs and Os. Sharpe appears to believe that the podcast won’t last very long if that’s all they talk about. The podcast is more of a mission of educating and celebrating the game of basketball by sharing knowledge, but Shannon Sharpe does not care and says it won’t last long doing that.

Shannon Sharpe Says LeBron James And JJ Redick’s Podcast Will Fail

“I know you said that he and JJ had that podcast — Mind the Game — and it’s supposed to be Xs and Os,” Sharpe said. “Let me tell you something: if you ever want to start a podcast, and this is what I tell Stephen A., you’ve got to be able to adapt. You’ve got to be able to branch out. Because if all you talk about is Xs and Os, it ain’t gonna last very long.” Smith concurred, pointing out that Kendrick Perkins has been making similar statements for months. Even if a video of them drawing Xs and Os from three days ago on the account’s official YouTube channel has 428k views as of the writing of this piece, a basketball podcast about basketball seems like a bridge too far.

Even if a video of them drawing Xs and Os from three days ago on the account’s official YouTube channel has 428k views as of the writing of this piece, a basketball podcast about basketball seems like too unique a notion. The podcast probably won’t appeal to everyone, but James would have launched a podcast much sooner if he felt the need or wanted to discuss other topics. Not to mention Redick’s incredibly popular podcast, The Old Man and the Three. Overall, Shannon wants more hot takes and opinionated arguments in his podcast consumption.

JJ Redick Apparently Not The Frontrunner For Lakers Head Coaching Job, Massive Offer For Uconn’s Dan Hurley Is Being Prepared

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Los Angeles Lakers are planning to make a sizable, long-term contract offer to UConn men’s basketball coach Dan Hurley in order to lure the two-time NCAA national champion to the NBA. Hurley and the Lakers have had preliminary talks about the job. Sources told ESPN that the parties intend to intensify their talks in the days ahead. Hurley has led the Lakers’ search from the start, according to insiders. Even though the team has interviewed a number of other applicants as part of its due diligence. This goes against the widely reported idea that JJ Redick was in the pole position to become the franchise’s next head coach.

Rumor has it that governor Jeanie Buss, general manager, and vice president of basketball operations Rob Pelinka are eager to formally discuss their vision of combining Hurley’s dominant program, which is based on his tactical acumen and elite player development—with the legendary Lakers brand. The Athletic’s Shams Charania has been reporting for what seems like weeks that Redick was the clear frontrunner. Shams reported that it was only a matter of time before JJ Redick was named head coach. Woj has thrown a wrench into that line of thinking, and a massive deal is being drawn up for Hurley.

Dan Hurley To Be Hired As Lakers Coach, JJ Out Of The Running

According to insiders, Dan Hurley has frequently talked about his goal of becoming an NBA coach. Additionally, he has told the Lakers that he would like to explore the possibility of working with one of the most successful teams in basketball. LeBron James is said to have been impressed with Hurley’s sophisticated offensive acumen. Hurley becomes an even more fascinating contender if James decides to return to Los Angeles in free agency. Bronny James could be selected as the 55th choice in this month’s NBA draft. This could make things more interesting to LeBron. Should that take place, Hurley and his team will take on the responsibility of overseeing Bronny’s professional development. Ultimately giving James the opportunity to play alongside his son.

All in all, the JJ Redick Lakers era seems to have never been as sure fire thing as it has been reported to be. JJ Redick was one of several candidates who interviewed and has been in talks with the Lakers. Shams has been reporting that he is the clear frontrunner. It seems like his sources were off the mark this time around, as it seems like the Lakers are drafting up a substantial deal to bring in Hurley. JJ did say he would break his silence on Shams reports after the finals so it will be interesting to see what he has to say. Overall, the deal might be don’t very soon.

JJ Redick Breaks Silence On Lakers Head Coaching Rumors

It would be astonishing at this point if JJ Redick weren’t the Los Angeles Lakers’ next head coach. Redick’s obligation to call the NBA Finals for ESPN this week presents a dilemma for both parties, as the Lakers are delaying their coaching search until after he concludes his broadcasting responsibilities. The problem is that holding off will just highlight how obvious Redick being the frontrunner is. There would be no need to wait until the Finals are done if they were keen on employing James Borrego.

From now until a decision is made, Redick will be the subject of inquiries regarding the Laker’s position. I have to admit, it would be hilarious if they announced Borrego in place of Redick in late June. In an appearance on GoJo and Golic on Wednesday, the player-turned-podcaster/broadcaster did not exactly put an end to rumors that he is the guy. He stated that while his emphasis is on the NBA Finals. He said, “As for Shams, that will be addressed once the season’s over.” Redick continued, “That is all I have to say.”

JJ Redick Addresses The Lakers Rumours

JJ Redick stressed that his top concern was his Finals broadcasting job and that he was not considering rumors that the Lakers were interested in hiring him to fill their coaching position. Redick will announce the NBA Finals alongside Mike Breen and Doris Burke starting on Thursday. “My focus is on the NBA Finals,” Redick said on “GoJo and Golic” on Wednesday. “In terms of Shams, that will be addressed once the season is over. I’ll just say that.” Redick is currently their first choice based on all the indications. According to league insiders, the Lakers have been seriously considering two possibilities over the past few weeks: Redick and Pelicans associate coach James Borrego.

“I am so fortunate that I am in this position and I get to call these Finals with Doris and Mike,” Redick continued. “My day-to-day right now is consumed with calling games, the 19 different podcasts I feel like I have, my obligations to all of our partners.” Redick continued saying, “Hold on, I don’t mean any job. I mean jobs.” His admission might imply that the ESPN pundit is being pursued by multiple NBA teams this offseason. Despite spending 15 seasons in the NBA as a player, Redick has never held a head coaching position in the league. Last year, the Toronto Raptors expressed interest in hiring him as their new head coach.

JJ Redick Is Reportedly The Frontrunner And Close To Becoming The Lakers’ Next Head Coach

According to league industry insiders, the Los Angeles Lakers are narrowing in on JJ Redick as their top candidate to take over as head coach. League sources stated that the Lakers are still in the process of interviewing potential head coaches. Furthermore, no decision has been made yet. However, all the signs point to Redick as their top pick right now. Over the past several weeks, league insiders said that the Lakers have given significant consideration to two candidates: Redick and James Borrego, the associate coach of the Pelicans.

Three weeks ago, Redick was the first candidate to meet with Lakers executives in person. Last week, Borrego had a second in-person interview with Lakers officials. Team sources say the organization was impressed with him during the process. Apparently, Lakers star Anthony Davis has some history with Borrego from his time in New Orleans. Davis and the prospective head coach have a “rapport.” Of course, JJ Redick is tight with LeBron James as the two host a basketball podcast together. Overall, these two names are leading the pack, but it looks like JJ may edge Borrego out.

JJ Redick Is The Frontrunner For The Lakers Headcoaching Job

The Celtics assistant Sam Cassell, the Heat assistant Chris Quinn, the Timberwolves assistant Micah Nori, and the Nuggets coach David Adelman are among the other prospects the Lakers have interviewed. Redick, a media analyst, is providing color commentary for the NBA Finals, which begin in Boston on Thursday night. This has led many in the NBA to believe that an official hire would be made public following the series. Lakers officials are reportedly “infatuated” with Redick and his coaching potential, according to sources.

According to multiple sources briefed on the situation, legendary former Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski has developed into a highly regarded unofficial resource for the Lakers during the hiring process. His extensive familiarity with candidates, including Redick and others, gives him insight into the kind of culture the team is looking for, as well as the qualities of a possible staff around the next head coach. Overall, with no professional coaching experience under his belt, Redick looks like he will be the next head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers.

LeBron James Has Conflicting Feelings About Kyrie Irving Making The NBA Finals

LeBron James is currently on a nice vacation from the grind of the NBA Season. Meanwhile, on Thursday, the NBA Finals will begin. This year’s finals are between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics. Overall, it is a Finals that not many people saw coming. Although the Celtics were certainly expected to go far, no one really thought the Dallas Mavericks would have what it takes to win. After all, they didn’t even make the postseason back in 2023.

However, Kyrie Irving has upped his game to a whole new level. He has hit a career resurgence, and fans have loved every second of it. Meanwhile, Luka Doncic continues to be one of the best players in the entire league. They are a dynamic duo that has started to be compared to the iconic pair of LeBron and Kyrie. Clearly, LeBron understands just how talented Ky is and how he is instrumental in the Mavericks’ success. Having said that, we know who James will be rooting for come Thursday.
