Big Sean Says That His And Jhene Aiko’s Next Twenty88 Album Is ‘Coming Along’

After going three years without new music, Big Sean has been treating his fans well, having released two projects within the last two years. It started with his fifth album Detroit 2, which he dropped in 2020. The following year, he connected with Hit-Boy for their EP What You Expect. During a recent Instagram Live with Queen Naija, which came after she and Sean released their single, “Hate Our Love,” Sean shared some news about a project his fans have long awaited.

During the livestream, Sean said that his time in the studio has been spent completing his sixth solo album and a new Twenty88 album with Jhene Aiko. “We’ve been working on it for a little bit,” he said about the latter. “It’s coming along though.” Back in 2016, Sean and Jhene released their first project as Twenty88. Since then, they’ve released music under that name on two occasions: first, in 2017 with “OLLA (Only Lovers Left Alive)” from Jhene’s album, Trip, and again later that year with “Same Time, Pt. 1” from Sean’s album, I Decided.

Big Sean’s reveal comes after he and Jhene were mistaken for Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. during their appearance at a Los Angeles Rams football game last month.

You can watch Sean speak about the Twenty88 album in the video above.

Big Sean And Jhene Aiko Were Mistaken For Another Celebrity Couple At The Rams Game

It’s not all that unusual to see celebrities at big sporting events but in Los Angeles, it’s apparently such a common occurrence that it’s easy to get them confused for one another — even when they look nothing alike. That’s what happened during Sunday’s NFC Championship game between the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers at SoFi Stadium, where Big Sean and Jhene Aiko were misidentified on the Jumbotron as Buffy The Vampire Slayer herself, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and her husband Freddie Prinze Jr.

On the Jumbotron, a closeup of Big Sean and Jhene Aiko was captioned “Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.,” prompting Gellar to joke on Instagram, “@bigsean do you get mistaken for me as often as I get mistaken for you? (Swipe right to see my actual date at the #ramshouse).” In her post, she compared a selfie with her and her husband to the photo that appeared onscreen at the game, then added a photo of her and her friend Elsa Collins, with whom she actually attended the game.

Sean and Jhene also seemed tickled by the mishap, with Sean posting a photo of the two staring in confusion at the Jumbotron to his own Instagram Story.

Jhené Aiko, Summer Walker, And Jorja Smith Are Headlining The Female-Led Sol Blume Festival Lineup

Achieving gender parity in musical festival lineups has been an uphill battle for female artists. Over the past few years, we’ve seen lineup figures cross the 30% mark of female-led acts on the bill, but that number seldom affects the headlining slate, which is typically dominated by male artists. We’ve seen some festivals recently make it a priority to feature female-led acts in at least half of the bill, but when it comes to hip-hop, that effort is generally negligible.

Enter Sacramento’s Sol Blume festival. Now in its third edition, the fest has just announced an eye-popping slate of female headlining acts and a 2022 lineup that shows true balance between female and male stars in hip-hop, R&B, and soul. Jhené Aiko, Summer Walker, and Jorja Smith are the headliners along with PartyNextDoor, making for a formidable slate of some of today’s best artists. The two-day Sol Blume fest is also moving to a new venue at Sacramento’s Discovery Park, with its sweeping 300-acre riverside footprint.

Among the acts joining the headliners on the bill are Alina Baraz, Majid Jordan, SiR, Lucky Daye, Kiana Ledé, DVSN, Syd, Thundercat, Tinashe, Blxst, Rexx Life Raj, Sinéad Harnett, Smino, Lauren Jauregui, Tiana Major9, Tink, Yeek, and more.

Tickets go on sale Monday, January, 31 at 1o am PST here. You can full details and lineup info at the same link.

Jhene Aiko’s ‘Wrap Me Up’ Offers The Gift Of Love For The Holidays

As the year winds down, Jhene Aiko gives fans plenty to look forward to for the new year, although she hasn’t let on whether that means the follow-up to her Grammy-nominated 2020 album, Chilombo, or more collaborations. For now, it’s enough to get cozy by the fire with her latest single, “Wrap Me Up.”

Aiko’s new single isn’t quite a traditional holiday song, but it has elements that allow it to fit into the overall spirit of the season, like jingling bells and tinkling piano keys. She also uses imagery that uses some of the hallmarks of the genre as she mentions gifts, mistletoe, and references to “Silent Night.” It’s a pretty, emotional song that highlights the love the holiday season should bring. “Wrap me all up with your love,” she sings. “All that I want, fill me up, fill me all up with your love.”

Although Jhene hadn’t released a new project in 2021, she remained relatively visible thanks to a series of collaborations with the likes of Ty Dolla Sign and Bryson Tiller (“By Yourself“), Swae Lee (“In The Dark“), and Moneybagg Yo (“One Of Dem Nights“). She also re-released her breakout mixtape Sailing Soul(s).

Moneybagg Yo And Jhené Aiko Celebrate Having ‘One Of Dem Nights’ With A Sultry Video

When Moneybagg Yo dropped his new album A Gangsta’s Pain in April, one of the fan-favorite standout songs was the Jhene Aiko-featuring “One Of Dem Nights.” A marked departure from much of Moneybagg’s existing oeuvre, the smooth, R&B-flavored track found Moneybagg sharing his X-rated fantasies alongside the bell-voiced singer. Now, six months out from the song’s initial release, Moneybagg shares the well-suited video for “One Of Dem Nights,” which sees the rapper mugging next to the singer, who also appears in miniature sitting atop the stove and a shelf in the trap house.

“One Of Dem Nights,” along with other hits like “Time Today,” “Hard For The Next,” and “Wockesha,” helped propel Moneybagg’s fourth album to a No. 1 debut, then keep it atop the Billboard albums chart two weeks later, where it returned after a huge streaming week. In addition to his own well-received singles, the Memphis native secured a number of high-profile features with names like Belly (“Zero Love“) and Meek Mill (“Hot“).

Meanwhile, Jhene Aiko celebrated the 10th anniversary of her debut mixtape, Sailing Soul(s), in March, then poked her head out for features on Ty Dolla Sign’s “By Yourself” and Swae Lee’s “In The Dark” from Marvel’s Shang-Chi.

Nicki Minaj Seeks Help From Kehlani, Jhene Aiko, Summer Walker, And More For An Upcoming Track

Earlier this year, Nicki Minaj made it clear that she was working on music thanks to the re-release of her beloved mixtape, Beam Me Up Scotty. Three new songs were attached to the re-uploaded project, with one of them being “Seeing Green” with Drake and Lil Wayne. From that moment on, new releases from the Minaj arrived at a consistent rate. She teamed with Polo G for their first collaboration before remixing BIA’s hit record, “Whole Lotta Money.” Nowadays, the Pink Friday rapper is hard at work on what appears to be her next album, and as she progresses with it, Nicki took to Twitter to put out a special request.

After sharing a sultry snippet that features her repeatedly singing, “yeah,” Nicki revealed she needed help from a crew of singers to complete the song. “Barbz: ask Keke, Tamar & Brandy to redo this,” she wrote in a tweet. “That’s what I sound like in my head. Would love to hear ppl who can rlly do it.” In a second post, she added, “Summer, Jhené & Kehlani can be good in the blend as well with their harmonies.” Kehlani caught wind of the tweet and asked Nicki to be a bit more specific with her request. “Just challenging 6 gurls to redo that lil thing I sang,” Nicki replied. “It’s on my story. Then I’ll take the a cappella & put together a lil Smthn,” she wrote, adding, “no big zeal zo.”

Summer Walker also responded to Nicki and wrote, “I’d love that [black heart emoji].” Nicki replied, “Okay puddin pop. Love you. Dm it or post it when u want. No big zeal.”

It’s unclear when the record Nicki has in mind will arrive, but fans sure are excited for its release in the future.

Swae Lee And Jhene Aiko Beg For Transparency On The Optimistic ‘In The Dark’

Next month, Marvel will release Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings in theaters across the country. It’s already made history as the first film from the franchise to feature an Asian lead. A soundtrack for the movie will also be released beside and while fans will have to wait a bit to press play on it, the soundtrack’s creators have released the latest single. Swae Lee and Jhene Aiko deliver their second collaboration with “In The Dark,” a midtempo single that finds both acts begging for transparency from their respective partners. The song arrives days after Jhene attended a premiere for Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings and teased the song’s impending release on Instagram.

The new track marks the first time that the artists have worked together since their 2017 effort “Sativa,” which appeared on Jhene’s second album, Trip. The song was later remixed with Swae Lee’s Rae Sremmurd counterpart, Slim Jxmmi.

Their collab comes a week after Swae Lee teamed up with Jack Harlow for “Ball Is Life” from the Madden 22 soundtrack. He also joined Pnb Rock and Pink Sweats for “Forever Never.” Jhene Aiko, on the other hand, cooled down a bit since she dropped her third album, Chilombo, last year. The singer followed-up the Grammy-nominated project with “By Yourself,” her collaboration with Ty Dolla Sign, and the re-release of her debut mixtape, Sailing Soul(s).
