Not even two weeks after being placed on the Yankees’ IL for a sprained left elbow, new recruit third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is ready to get back to action for the Yanks after being activated from the injured list today(August 23).

The clear the spot on the roster, the Bombers optioned SS/3B Oswald Peraza after the 6-0 shutout over the Cleveland Guardians.

The Nassau, Bahamas native injured his elbow in a head-first slide into home plate against the Chicago White Sox on August 12, but held his own at the plate before the injury, slashing .316/.361/.702 in his first 14 games with the Yankees. Chisholm set a record in the Bronx, hitting seven HRs in his first 12 games since being acquired in a trade with Miami back in July after the All Star break.

Chisholm and the Yankees have the best record in the American League(75-53), with Baltimore just 1.5 GB going into the BX Bombers series against the Colorado Rockies this weekend.

New York Yankees placed third baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list Wednesday because of a sprained left elbow and were waiting for more doctors to weigh in to determine whether he needs surgery, manager Aaron Boone said.

The Yankees remained hopeful Chisholm’s stay on the IL will be short, though it’s not clear when he’ll resume swinging a bat. He hits left-handed and throws with his right.

“We’ll see what we have,” Boone said. “We’re obviously just a couple days into this. But we’re also somewhat optimistic.”

Chisholm, 26, was injured on Monday while sliding into home plate in the fifth inning but remained in the game. He was replaced by Ben Rice during his next plate appearance in the seventh inning.

Chisholm has given New York an immediate spark since he was acquired from the Miami Marlins for three prospects on July 27. He became the first player in franchise history to hit seven homers in his first 12 games with the club.

“He’s been a dynamic player for us,” Boone said. “He provides power, speed. He’s done a great job on defense. He’s been great in the room. But again, hopefully, it’s something that doesn’t turn out to be too long and we can get him back.”

Chisholm spent his first four-plus seasons in the major leagues with the Marlins, hitting .246 with 66 homers and 205 RBIs in 403 games. He is batting .316 with seven homers and 11 RBIs in 14 games with the Yankees.

More evidence that the Yankees’ front office made the logical decision when it came to acquiring former Marlins centerfielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. before yesterday’s trade deadline. Derek Jeter’s advice to the Yanks din’t fall on deaf ears and the entire organization is elated that they didn’t. Chisholm has become a record breaker in just 24 hours of being a Yankee, becoming the first in the franchise to hit four HRs in the first three games played in pinstripes.

The Bahamian-born 26-year-old drove in five RBIs with two homers, helping the Bronx Bombers edge the Phillies 7-6 in 12 innings. After homering twice in Monday night’s 14-4 win over Philadelphia, including a ninth-inning blast hit with Aaron Judge’s bat, Chisholm became the first Yankee to belt four homers in his first three games with the team.

The Yankees newly acquired third baseman hit a solo homer off Aaron Nola in the sixth inning and a three run dinger off Matt Strahm in the seventh.

“That’s sick, to be part of the history of the New York Yankees,” Chisholm said. “It’s one of the sickest things anybody in baseball could hear.”

It didn’t take long for the recent Yankees trade acquisition of former Miami Marlins All-Star Jazz Chisholm Jr. to yield results for the Bronx Bombers when Chisholm belted two homers yesterday against the NL East leaders, the Philadelphia Phillies. The double boomers were Chisholm’s first dingers as a Yankee. Some say the secret is he used Aaron Judge’s bat.

Jazz picked up his first hit and first stolen base as a Yankee on Sunday against the Red Sox just hours after being traded from the Marlins to the Yankees on Saturday. Chisholm hit his first dinger in pinstripes against Phillies Zack Wheeler and hit the second against Garret Stubbs. The latter was belted with some help from Aaron Judge’s bat.

Monday’s homers are his 14th and 15th of the season. He hit .249/.323/.407 with 22 steals in 101 games with the Marlins before the trade.

It should be mentioned Chisholm made his first career start at third base Monday. His two primary positions are second base and center field, but the Yankees are set there with Gleyber Torres and Aaron Judge, so Chisholm is giving third base a try. He started a slick 5-4-3 double play in his first chance at the hot corner.

“I mean, I went out there and played center field for the first time last year and I felt like it was pretty difficult at first,” Chisholm said about playing third base. “But I just feel like I could go and play anywhere and help my team win. For me, it’s just going somewhere — especially a winning team — and they’re asking me to go somewhere to help them win? I’m definitely gonna go out there and do it.”

After a rare win for the Miami Marlins against the St. Louis Cardinals last night(June 18) in the 305’s loanDepot Park, the home team’s second baseman had a surprise for Marlins reporter Jessica Blaylock.

As the Bally Sports journalist interviewed Vidal Brujan for hitting the walk-off single that drove in the winning run, Jazz crept up behind her and drenched her with gallons of water(or possibly Gatorade) from the Marlins’ cooler before bopping back to the dugout and flexing for the cameras. Some may call it the spoils of victory, while others are taking to social media to chastise the All-Star 2B/SS about what is now being seen by some as unsportsmanlike conduct.

See the video of the interrupted interview HERE

Blaylock, despite being shocked from the soaking, was an unbelievably good sport, simply responding “Oh, my goodness. I feel like I just maybe delivered the walk-off hit.”

There were some people who didn’t see any harm in the cooler toss, but some took to social media to slam Chisholm, even calling him a jerk.

The good news is that the Marlins actually won for a change, edging the Cards 9-8. This pushes Miami’s record to 24-49, just one game shy of winning just half of the amount of games that they’ve lost. The NL East’s bottom slot certainly has a special place for the Marlins in 2024.
