The Weeknd Celebrated The Anniversary Of ‘Dawn FM’ By Sharing The ‘Is There Someone Else’ Video

The Weeknd‘s fifth studio album, Dawn FM turned one today (January 7). A year ago, the album was released after very little promotion, as The Weeknd wanted fans to hear the album as a cohesive body of work. During the album’s life cycle, songs like “Take My Breath,” “Sacrifice,” “Out Of Time,” and “Best Friends,” garnered enough popularity for them to become singles and fan favorites. Today, to celebrate the album’s anniversary, The Weeknd shared the video for “Is There Someone Else.”

In the video, he is seen peeking a woman as she dances seductively through a window. The woman then sneaks away, leading him to continue his search for her, by way of cameras and telescopes.

“Is there someone else or not? / ‘Cause I wanna keep you close / I don’t wanna lose my spot / ‘Cause I need to know / If you’re hurting him, or you’re hurting me / If I ain’t with you, I don’t wanna be / Is there someone else or not?,” he sings on the song’s chorus.

Shortly after the release of Dawn FM, The Weeknd took to Twitter and implied that the album was part of a new trilogy.

“I wonder… did you know you’re experiencing a new trilogy?,” he said.

It appears that a new era may imminent. Earlier this week, he seemingly teased that the next chapter may arrive soon, saying, “we’re just getting started…”

Several of 2022’s greatest projects came later in the year. However, a noteworthy early arrival came in the form of The Weeknd’s Dawn FM. Landing on January 7th, the 16-track effort boasts guest appearances from Jim Carrey, Tyler, the Creator, Lil Wayne, Quincy Jones, and Oneohtrix Point Never.

As Complex notes, production was handled by the likes of Max Martin, Matt Cohn, OPN, and Oscar Holter. Surprisingly, the project debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, falling short of Gunna’s landmark DS4Ever delivery.

On the Billboard Global 200 chart, The Weeknd came out on top this time last year. Additionally, his project set a record after 24 of his songs landed on the chart. This marks the most entries in a single week for a solo male performer.

In the year since Dawn FM‘s premiere, titles like “Sacrifice,” “Out of Time,” and “Less Than Zero” have remained in streaming rotation.

Another fan favourite, “Is There Someone Else?” has amassed significant streaming numbers. To celebrate the first anniversary of his project, the Canadian artist is finally dropping off an accompanying music video for his fans.

He teased the announcement on Instagram earlier this week with a brief clip of the intriguing visual. “‘Is There Someone Else?’ video drops on the one-year anniversary of ‘Dawn FM,’” he told his followers at the time. “Back at it.”

The Weeknd was hard at work all throughout 2022, with the first leg of his After Hours Til Dawn Tour closing out a few weeks ago.

Of course, he couldn’t leave it at that. The 32-year-old also lent his vocal talents to the Avatar 2 soundtrack, sweetly singing his way through “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength).”

The Weeknd Says He’s ‘Back At It’ And Teases The ‘Is There Someone Else?’ Video Again

The Weeknd is giving his fans deja vu. January 2022 welcomed Dawn FM, his immersive fifth album, and January 2023 finds The Weeknd pulling more from his Dawn FM vault. The record-breaking artist was asked last week how he felt about Dawn FM‘s impending one-year anniversary, and he responded, “i feel istheresomeoneelsemusicvideo-ish.”

Today, January 4, he took his tease one step further.

Is There Someone Else? Video drops on the 1 year anniversary of Dawn Fm … back at it,” The Weeknd posted along with a 21-second clip. Dawn FM dropped on January 7, 2022, so the full video can be expected this Saturday.

Prior to this “Is There Someone Else?” development, The Weeknd closed out last year by contributing “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength)” to the Avatar: The Way Of Water soundtrack and subsequently making the shortlist for Best Original Song at the 2023 Oscars.

That momentum carried over into the beginning of this year, as The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” surpassed Ed Sheeran’s “Shape Of You” as the most-streamed song in Spotify history (3.332 billion).

The Weeknd has also drummed up anticipation for the 2023 leg of his After Hours Til Dawn Tour by posting a recap of his 2022 North American leg. “We’re just getting started…,” he tweeted on Tuesday, January 3.

The Weeknd Teased A Music Video After A Fan Asked How He Felt About The ‘Dawn FM’ One-Year Anniversary

The Weeknd owned the first major drop of 2022 — a year marked by A-list album releases — with Dawn FM on January 7. He ended 2022 on the Academy of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences Best Original Song shortlist for “Nothing Is Lost (You Give Me Strength),” his contribution to the Avatar: The Way Of Water soundtrack.

The Weeknd squeezed plenty of other notable things in the intervening months, such as embarking on his After Hours Til Dawn Tour and hyping up The Idol, but it appears he will start 2023 by looping back to how he started 2022.

Over the last 24 hours, the diamond-certified artist has posted a 2022 collage and an After Hours Til Dawn Tour hype video with the caption, “xo bout to F*ck up 2023.” In response to the video, one fan tweeted, “dawn fm almost a year old, how do you feel?” The Weeknd responded, “i feel istheresomeoneelsemusicvideo-ish.”

“Is There Someone Else?” is the 10th of 16 Dawn FM tracks. The lovesick, paranoid slow-burner received a lyric video upon Dawn FM‘s release, and The Weeknd performed it as part of his “The Weeknd x The Dawn FM Experience” Amazon special in March. But it’s safe to assume that “Is There Someone Else?” will soon get the full cinematic treatment. The Jim Carrey- and Hoyeon Jung-assisted “Out Of Time” video set the bar high, but The Weeknd never has trouble exceeding the standard.
