Machine Gun Kelly Tells The Surreal Story Of Getting Lil Wayne On His Album Right Before It Was Due

On Machine Gun Kelly’s new album Mainstream Sellout, Lil Wayne makes two appearances, on “Drug Dealer” and “Ay!.” Kelly made an appearance of his own last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, where he told the wild story of how Wayne got on the album at almost the last possible minute.

Kelly said he and Travis Barker called Wayne and asked if he wanted to drop by the studio and record a verse for “Drug Dealer.” Kelly continued:

“He was super down. He was like, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna pull up.’ This is around 8 o’clock. He pulls up around 1 a.m. The sprinter’s there and there’s all these security cameras. We’re like, ‘Dude, that’s Lil Wayne’s sprinter, this is crazy.’ We wait about an hour. The sprinter door opens, we’re like, ‘Oh my god, the door’s opening.’ He walks out, he comes in. He says ‘what’s up’ to everybody, I play the song, he’s like, ‘This is what we’re doing?’ I was like, ‘Yup.’

Then, he’s like, ‘You guys got time?’ We’re like, ‘All the time you need.’ He goes in this courtyard, walks around. He walks on the courtyard for like five… comes back in at like 6 in the morning. He’s like, ‘I didn’t make you wait too long, did I?’ We were all like, ‘No, man, no. What? No.” And he goes in the booth, does it in like one take. We freak out. I get in the car, I go wake Megan [Fox] up. I’m like, ‘Oh my god, Lil Wayne just got on the album.’”

As for how “Ay!” came together, that was a little more nerve-wracking, as Kelly continued:

“And then the album has to be turned in. We have this song called ‘Ay!.’ We’re like, ‘It just sounds like Lil Wayne should be on this one, too. Should we try?’ We call and they’re like, ‘Yeah, he’s gonna skate ’til 7 a.m. but like…’ And we’re like, ‘But the album needs to be turned in at 9:30.’ And they’re like, ‘Oh yeah, he got it.’

I set my alarm for 8:30. I woke up and I’m like, ‘Dude, Lil Wayne didn’t cut a song at 8 in the morning.’ Dude, the verse was there. He did a song at 8 in the morning.”

Chika Announces She’s Taking An Online Hiatus: ‘I Know I Need Tangible Help And Support’

Following a series of concerning posts over the past week, rapper Chika has announced via Twitter that she will take a hiatus from social media. In a series of tweets, she shared she plans “to take some time away to get better.” This Twitter thread comes after the “Industry Games” rapper shared via her Instagram Story plans to end her life.

After sharing the Instagram story, several of her peers in the industry, including Latto and Monaleo, expressed their support for Chika. Before her taking a break online, she took to Twitter this morning to apologize for worrying her fans and “lashing out to people who tried to send love.”

“the mind has a sick way of making you feel like everyone is against you when they are not,” she said. “i’ve felt alone for such a long time- so the feeling of arms wrapped around me, trying to uplift me is foreign. i know i triggered many of you, and i am sorry for that as well. i wish less people could relate. it doesn’t feel good to be the person unearthing so many people’s unspoken pain.”

Chika said none of the feelings she shared over the past few days were related to social media, but also feels “being online absolutely does not help.” She admitted she still doesn’t feel better, but thanked her fans for their support.

“no more sharing for now,” she said. “i know i need tangible help and support, so that is my priority right now. please take care of yourselves and each other. life is not fun or easy, but hopefully it can be at least ‘doable.’ love you. see you soon.”

Donald Glover Discusses The Possibility Of New Childish Gambino Music On ‘Kimmel’

Donald Glover has kept busy with Atlanta and various other acting endeavors in recent years, and all the while, Childish Gambino fans have been wanting more new music. Glover’s latest album was 2020’s 3.15.20 and now he tells Jimmy Kimmel he’s been working on new music since then.

Towards the end of the conversation, Kimmel asked Glover if he was working on a new Childish Gambino album. After pausing for applause, Glover replied, “Uh, no,” before quickly indicating he was joking. He continued, “I’m making a lot of music. I really love doing it. I’ve made a bunch of it. It’s just really about how to experience it at this point.”

Glover didn’t specifically say he was making music to be released under the Childish Gambino name, which is noteworthy given his recent history: He suggested on multiple occasions he would be retiring the moniker but has since indicated he may not be finished with Childish Gambino after all.

Meanwhile, he also noted that his process of making music has changed since becoming a father, saying:

“It used to just flow, but now I have kids. Nothing flows anymore. […] Nothing’s as easy as it used to be. So I do block off time now because I’m like, ‘Oh, I want to be here for them at this time, and I want to make sure I see his game, and I want to make…’ So that takes a lot of scheduling. But I have this kind of farm, I call it, where it’s like an art farm, where I just like… when I go there, then I get to be as ADD as I want.”

Gunna Sticks To His Ultra-Smooth Ways With A Performance Of ‘Private Island’ On ‘A COLORS Show’

Nearly three and a half years ago, Gunna brought his talents to A COLORS Show, the popular YouTube music series that invites artists to perform a song of theirs in front of a simple and vibrant background. During that appearance on the show, Gunna performed “Top Off,” a standout from his 2018 mixtape Drip Season 3. The performance spawned plenty of memes and it resurfaces on social media every few months just like any fan-favorite moment does. Fast-forward to now and Gunna returns to A COLORS Show for a new performance, this time for a song from his third album DS4EVER.

In his return to the music series, Gunna serenades with a performance of “Private Island.” The track is the soft-hearted introduction to DS4EVER, and it stands as one of Gunna’s more tender records in his discography. As expected, Gunna is also dressed to impress during his appearance.

Gunna’s return to A COLORS Show comes after he recently lent guest features to DDG, Machine Gun Kelly, and Lil Durk. He’s also given performances of “Die Alone” and “Empire” since the release of DS4EVER

Nicki Minaj Blasts A Twitter User Who Claimed She Was Too Grown To Be Partying With Fivio Foreign

At the end of last week, Nicki Minaj dropped off her third record of the year with “We Goin Up” alongside Fivio Foreign. The record is one she previously previewed on Instagram Live while noting that it would not appear on her long-awaited fifth album. Despite this, Nicki still celebrated the song’s release and she joined Fivio and others to party the night away. While the night may have gone well, one person had a comment about Nicki’s outing and it eventually earned a response from Nicki herself.

In response to a video of Nicki at the party with Fivio and others, the Twitter user wrote, “I wish she’d move on from this lifestyle this isn’t you anymore Nicki.” She eventually caught wind of the comment and did not hold back on a response. “Tell me you don’t know anything about Nicki Minaj w/o telling me,” Nicki wrote. “Ppl rlly create their own perception of you then tell you not to be you. Girl eat sh*t. Thank you.” She added, “Out of all the 3 wishes a b*tch get a b*tch using 1 wish to tell me not to be who I’ve ALWAYS [f*cking] been.”

Nicki continued, “My whole AUTHENTIC come up is fully documented for the world to see. YouTube is free I think still. Y’all want me 2b some rich RNB singer/pop star so bad. (well not the smart ppl) they know my story. 1 thing u can never change is ur story. I can&will only be me. Take it or [leave].” Another person questions the first user’s intention between their tweets and Nicki wrote, “Other races can do it tho,” while adding in another tweet, “Ppl rlly make up an imaginary ‘you’ in their head. Sh*t wild.”

To conclude her message, Nicki wrote, “Can y’all please let me enjoy the moment? Please?”

Tyler The Creator Makes A Stern Request To People Who Attend His Shows

After a strong 2021 year that was led by the release of his chart-topping sixth album Call Me If You Get Lost, Tyler The Creator is keeping the energy alive in 2022. He’s currently on tour in support of the album and he brought a talented roster of artists on the road with him. Kali Uchis, Vince Staples, and Teezo Touchdown have all joined Tyler for the string of shows that kicked off in mid-February and is set to continue until April 8. So far, things have been going well on tour, but Tyler has one pet peeve with fans and he took to Twitter to make a stern request to them.

In a tweet, Tyler wrote, “Stop throwing your sh*t on stage, i dont want it, now mid show i gotta move it, whats the logic f*cking stop thanks b.” After sharing the tweet, Tyler reposted a video from the fan where it shows him being forced to stop a show after an object was thrown on stage. “I don’t understand the logic of throwing your sh*t up here,” Tyler said. “Not only for safety reasons, but bro I don’t want it. I’m not even being funny, every show someone throws something up here and I don’t understand the logic. Then if I slip and break my foot, stop throwing your f*cking sh*t up here, bro!”

Wizkid Dances The Night Away With Winnie Harlow In His Intimate Video For ‘True Love’

This past October marked one year since Wizkid released his fourth album Made In Lagos. While the world was barred from enjoying the project in an outdoor setting, which tends to be appropriate for an afrobeats project, Made In Lagos grew to be Wizkid’s most popular release yet. It was spearheaded by the success of “Essence,” which features Tems and became a song of the summer entry in 2021 as it was later remixed by Justin Bieber. Despite bit being a bit removed from the release of Made In Lagos, Wizkid is back with a new music video for a fan favorite from the project.

At long last, Wizkid shares the video for “True Love,” which features Tay Iwar and Projexx. The new visual includes an appearance from Jamaican-Canadian model and vitiligo awareness spokeswoman Winnie Harlow. In it, Wizkid takes center stage in a gladiator-like stadium as a group of women dance around him. Soon, Harlow joins him and they intimately dance and cozy up beside each other for the remainder of the visual.

Wizkid released the video for “True Love” a few months after landing a pair of nominations for the upcoming Grammy awards. He was selected in the Best Global Music category with Made In Lagos and the Best Global Music Performance category with “Essence.”

Wale Is Going To Be In Michael Bay’s ‘Ambulance’ Movie And He’s Hyped

Come April 8, blockbuster director Michael Bay’s latest movie, Ambulance, will be in theaters. The film stars Jake Gyllenhall, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Eiza González, and the pride of the Washington D.C. rap scene, Wale. While we don’t know the full extent of his role, Wale (billed as Wale Folarin, for the IMDB heads out there) plays a character named Castro He just posted a couple of photos from the set to his Instagram Story with captions that said “Introducing ‘Castro’” and “Castro is coming,” referencing his character in the flick.

In the photo, Wale is posing in front of an ambulance, which given what we’ve come to expect from Michael Bay films, has a very good chance of getting exploded at some point. Watching the trailer, the film looks to be part Fast And The Furious-style heist and part ’90s action thriller, a la Speed.

Wale spoke to XXL last year about making the move into acting and working on Ambulance specifically: “It’s like learning to ride a bike and the next day, they put you in the Daytona 500…” he said. “I’m just really, really, really blessed to be able to work with Yaya and Jake Gyllenhaal. I never had no freak-out moments because these actors, they know how to talk to n****s. Michael would spazz on everybody and my energy’s off and Yaya would give me this look like, ‘You got it, bro! Come on, n****!’ Everybody was so f*cking nice.”

Ambulance is in theaters on 04/08.
