Joe Budden Wants Dr Umar To Explain His Criticism Of Hip-Hop In The Black Community

Dr. Umar Johnson dished out yet another controversial take on the Hustle Over Everything podcast, questioning what good hip-hop has done for the Black community. “I’m talking about both,” he answered when asked by Mouse Jones whether his disappointment in rap music is about its culture or its industry. “You’re still selling death and destruction to my kids while your kids are going to $30,000-a-year privileged white schools. That’s what you call a traitor. The hip-hop community has betrayed Black America. […] It ain’t did s**t in 50 years for the community. It made individuals rich and it’s it. And it gave out a couple of jobs. So did the drug dealer.”

The Joe Budden Podcast discussed this take, in which Dr. Umar posited that education should’ve been a stronger institution that hip-hop culture should’ve created, citing Jay-Z as an example of a success story that owes something to the Black community. Johnson and Jones agreed that the rap community needs accountability and more #MeToo-like initiatives. Moving on to the Slaughterhouse MC’s pod’ though, the cohosts argued that hip-hop can sometimes – but not always – promote street life that Black folks engage in out of necessity and survival. However, they don’t think that hip-hop caused this systemic cycle, hinting at a larger oppressive system that rap music did not create.

The Joe Budden Podcast‘s Takes On Dr. Umar’s Dismissal Of Hip-Hop In The Black Community

“And I want to make it perfectly clear that we’re using the word or the words ‘hip-hop,’” Joe Budden remarked. “I’m not certain, again, that he is referring to the culture of hip-hop. When he is saying ‘hip-hop,’ he is talking to the music and entertainment business that is controlled by Jewish people [an often bigoted insinuation that Budden doesn’t seem to endorse, but is assuming Dr. Umar’s intention with]. It would be tough for him to have that conversation with me as somebody who hip-hop saved my life. Like, he maybe can talk like that to Mouse Jones. He can’t say that to me.”

Elsewhere, The Joe Budden Podcast‘s cohosts spoke on how hip-hop as a whole provides employment for struggling families, and seemingly didn’t catch Dr. Umar’s statement that his take is about both the culture and the industry. The titular host specifically used the controversial of Russell Simmons saying that he’s been here too long and helped too many people to be “canceled.” “Like, we’re talking about over 50 years of people helping people,” Budden expressed. “My other problem with Dr. Umar is [that] he came right up here and said part of our problem is we want to do it for us and we’re not selfless enough to do it for the generations to come. He came in here and said that. I remember. It stuck out like a f***ing sore thumb. I’ll give him this: music – not the music business – but music is many kids’ way through life.”

DJ Akademiks Claims Kendrick Lamar Is Dropping New Music Soon, But Not About The Drake Beef

After relentlessly dropping four songs in almost as many days, we’re now back to an age-old question: where in the world is Kendrick Lamar? He hasn’t popped out since the “Not Like Us” music video, which continues to break streaming records (Drake’s old records, to be specific) amid many more milestones, accomplishments, astonishments, and a whole lot of fan discourse. While many fervent online voices aren’t here for it, DJ Akademiks just added fuel to that speculative fire. Moreover, he recently expressed during his livestream that his sources indicated an upcoming drop from K.Dot coming very soon. His fans pray that these reports come true in 2024, lest we roll this over into the second half of the 2020s decade.

“Wait, why did I get news that Kendrick is coming?” DJ Akademiks claimed concerning Kendrick Lamar’s next musical move. “I’ve gotten some sources that tell me Kendrick – I don’t think it’s on some diss s**t. But I’ve heard that, you know, Kendrick is loading up. I don’t know if that means an album, I don’t know if he’s finally going to start giving out the handouts of features that he probably promised them n***as who were Crip-walking and Blood-walking on that stage. I don’t know if it’s just going to be a loosie. Maybe it’s that track that was at the beginning of the ‘Not Like Us’ video. But I was told… Kendrick is coming. So – and pause on that, by the way. That sounds wild.”

DJ Akademiks With An Ominous & Exciting Claim: “Kendrick Lamar Is Coming”

Furthermore, this is especially interesting news this time around thanks to the new Drake tracks that he dropped on IG over the weekend. Many lines on this new three-pack reference the various beefs he was in this year, but not a lot of them directly relate to Kendrick Lamar. As such, maybe the 6ix God wants to keep things general and subliminally shady, although the word “subliminal” has pretty much lost all meaning when all that’s missing is a super-obvious callout. Either way, DJ Akademiks’ theory that the Compton lyricist won’t rehash the battle is a common one among fans.

Meanwhile, some fans even think that Kendrick Lamar foretold Drake’s new angles on these songs, particularly a line about therapy. Of course, it could just be another classic pgLang Stan reach, or it just goes to show how effectively he broke down his opponent’s character. Nevertheless, whether you’re a Kendrick hater or not, whatever comes next will definitely cause a stir. Only time will tell whether The Boogeyman comes back out or if he will instead fuel the other side of his old-school Gemini ways.

SEE IT: Confederate Monument Replaced By Statue of Late Congressman And Civil Rights Leader, John Lewis

200717230843 02 john lewis file photo

In a time where cultural wars are at the forefront of the news, here’s a feel good story. DeKalb County just honored the late civil rights leader and Georgia Congressman John Lewis by unveiling of a new historic monument in Decatur Square. This is a big deal for a bunch of reasons but most importantly the new statue honors equality and civil rights where there was once a stark reminder of hatred and division.

Get this, the bronze statue, created by internationally renowned sculptor Basil Watson, is positioned in front of the Historic DeKalb County Courthouse. The Confederate monument that is replacing stood for over 110 years. Unreal.

Crews carefully installed the 12-foot-tall statue.

During the installation Watson said: ”It’s exciting to see it going up and exciting for the city because of what he represents and what it’s replacing.”

This statue is four years in the making, and involved a global search for the quintessential artist before the John Lewis Commemorative Task Force selected Watson.

If you are not aware, John Lewis, was a prominent figure in the Civil Rights Movement, who was celebrated for his advocacy of “good trouble”—the idea of standing up for justice and equality, even when it means challenging the status quo. This statue not only commemorates his legacy but also symbolically replaces a monument that represented the opposite values.

Now about that Confederate monument. It known as “The Lost Cause,” and was erected in 1908 by the United Daughters of the Confederacy, the same year Georgia passed an amendment to disenfranchise African American voters. Again, unbelievable it stood there for 110 years.

decatur confederate monument full.jpg

The monument became increasingly controversial and was ultimately declared a public nuisance by a judge in June 2020, just a month before Lewis’ death. Thankfully Lewis was alive when that declaration was made.

The judge stated: ”In short, the Confederate obelisk has become an increasingly frequent target of graffiti and vandalism, a figurative lightning rod for friction among citizens, and a potential catastrophe that could happen at any time if individuals attempt to forcibly remove or destroy it.”

See what’s wild is Georgia state law prohibits the relocation or alteration of Confederate monuments. SMH. But the brave judge deemed the removal necessary to prevent further public discord. As the stone obelisk was lifted from its base, onlookers, kept at a distance by sheriff’s deputies, jeered and chanted “Just drop it!”

The proud new statue of John Lewis now stands in its place, marking a long overdo and significant shift in the historical narrative of Decatur Square and honoring a man who dedicated his life to fighting for civil rights and justice.

Times are changing but there’s more work to be done.
