Tinashe Says She’s Confident A SZA Collab Would Result In Some “Really Amazing” Music

Tinashe’s Quantum Baby hit streaming platforms in mid-August without any guest features, much to the disappointment of some fans. Fortunately, she hasn’t taken collaborations off the table completely. On Wednesday (Aug. 28), during an interview with KAYTRANADA for Interview Magazine, the “2 On” hitmaker shared a star-studded lineup of artists she dreams of working with in the future.

Cordae And Anderson .Paak’s Nostalgic ‘Summer Drop’ Recalls Simpler Times

Anderson .Paak and Cordae‘s third J. Cole-produced single, “Summer Drop,” is a nostalgic ode to the year’s warmer months — and the easygoing joys they brought in simpler times. The three rappers previously collaborated on “RNP” from Cordae’s debut album, The Lost Boy, while 2023’s “Two Tens” saw them reunite and tease that they had enough songs for a full EP. However, the release of “Summer Drop” brought something even more exciting with it: The announcement of Cordae’s third album, The Crossroads. While no release date was given, it’s expected to be out this year.

“Summer Drop” constitutes Cordae’s second single from the upcoming album, after he released “Saturday Mornings” in July. That song featured another older rapper, Lil Wayne, with whom he reunited after trading bars on “Sinister” from his second album, From A Bird’s Eye View. The Maryland native also tag-teamed with the late Juice WRLD on “Doomsday” from Lyrical Lemonade’s album, All Is Yellow, which dropped in January of this year. He also appeared in the video for “Doomsday 2” by his hero Eminem from the same album, creating something of a full-circle moment for him after his initial breakout with a freestyle over Eminem’s debut single “My Name Is.”

You can listen to Cordae and Anderson .Paak’s “Summer Drop” above.

Kehlani Delivers Breezy & Summery R&B Vibes For “While We Wait 2”

Kehlani has their die-hard fans jumping for joy this week because they now have While We Wait 2. If this title looks familiar to those not totally in the know, it’s because they have While We Wait in their discography. That was their third mixtape, and it hit DSPs back in 2019. Kehlani didn’t have a major rollout for this second project of 2024, as they hinted at it on their Instagram just about a week ago. There are actually a couple of reasons as to why this wasn’t being teased that long.

For starters, Kehlani delivered their fourth album CRASH back in late June. Secondly, the alternative R&B veteran announced the North American leg of their CRASH World Tour about five weeks prior to WWW2. It’s also worth mentioning they will be hitting the road on September 4. Finally, Kehlani said themselves that this project was completed in a blistering time frame. In a recent Instagram post they wrote, “We made this tape in my back house in two weeks with all people I really dearly love… It was a breezy process and nobody thought hard. Just some feelings in 90 degree weather.” You can definitely hear that in the performances and instrumentals in a good way. Kehlani sounds carefree and chill on this mixtape, making this just as blissful for the listener.

ASAP Rocky Played “Don’t Be Dumb” For Tim Burton And Here’s What He Had To Say

ASAP Rocky says that he played his new album, Don’t Be Dumb, for Tim Burton, and the legendary director loved it. He discussed the project during an interview with Billboard, last week, explaining to the outlet that German expressionism was a key inspiration for it. “In this very moment, it’s very grim. That’s an abbreviation,” he said of his mindset. “It’s infusing German expressionism with ghetto futurism.”

From there, Rocky revealed that he tried to get Burton, whose work is also inspired by the movement, to handle the cover artwork, but it didn’t work out. Regardless, he was still able to meet up with him and play the final project. “I sat and I played the album for Tim Burton, and he was f–king with it heavy,” he said. “He was rocking his head and he’s like, ‘Wow! I didn’t know you made that kind of music!’”

Rocky also revealed that Don’t Be Dumb will see him delving into deeper topics than his previous works. In particular, he referenced a song called, “Shroom Cloud,” on which he tackles, “current affairs and world wars and, you know, the world dying and whatnot.” He added: “At times like this, only two types of people strive and survive. I’m not trying to sound like I’m glorifying wars, [but] I think artists and druggies, they make it through. I mean, what was the hippies doing? They was getting high at Woodstock and f–king and having a great time and having these hippie babies who subsequently had us.”

Elsewhere in his interview with Billboard, Rocky also discussed his relationship with Rihanna, who he labels the “perfect” partner. Don’t Be Dumb was originally slated for release on August 30, but it has since been delayed. Be on the lookout for further updates on ASAP Rocky and his upcoming album on HotNewHipHop.

Alicia Keys Put On Blast After Asking What DJs Do

Earlier this week, Alicia Keys took to social media to question what DJs “actually do.” Unsurprisingly, this has since earned her a great deal of backlash. Of course, many are arguing that DJs play a major role in giving artists like her exposure, meaning she should already know the answer to her own question. DJ R-Tistic even hopped online to call her out, alleging that he was not paid for playing her song on Instagram Live. “All I know is her label offered me a few hundred to play her song, and then never paid me after I played it,” he wrote on X.

He went on to elaborate in The Jasmine Brand‘s comments section on Instagram, claiming that her label was behind it. “It was her label at the time, RCA. Via professional e-mail. Someone from their team offered to pay me to play a remix of one of her songs while I live streamed on IG, second week of the pandemic, when we were locked inside. I played it, and the label rep went ghost on the followup,” he alleged.

Alicia Keys Has An Important Question

He went on to respond to those insisting he should have demanded payment upfront, insisting it was not an option. DJ R-Tistic isn’t the only one to call Alicia Keys out for her remarks, however. DJ Quicksilva also jumped into the comments section to weigh in. He questioned whether or not Keys simply made the video as a joke to get fans riled up.

“Is this a click bait question she’s asking for attention ????” he began. “I need to invite her out to @spinconference so she can see what DJs really do.” What do you think of DJ R-Tistic’s response to Alicia Keys? What about DJ Quicksilva’s? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below and keep an eye on HNHH for more updates.
