Digital Underground Rapper Shock G Has Reportedly Died At The Age Of 57

As the hip-hop community continues to grieve the recent deaths of DMX and Black Rob, they’re unfortunately forced to say goodbye to another well-respected name. Digital Underground rapper Shock G has reportedly passed away at the age of 57. The news was delivered by fellow Digital Underground member Chopmaster J through a post he shared on Instagram.

“34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some,” he wrote. “And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!! #digitalunderground.”

A cause of death has yet to be revealed by anyone close to Shock G. The rapper discovered hip-hop after settling down in Queens, New York following a string of relocations around the East Coast with his family. Years later, he would move to Oakland, California and start the Digital Underground collective with Chopmaster J and the late Kenneth Waters, aka Kenny-K. In 1989, they would sign to Tommy Boy Records, and the year after, they released their highest charting record with “The Humpty Dance.” The group would go on to release six albums together between 1990 and 2008.

Shock G had success as a solo act and producer. In 1993 he produced and guest appeared on Tupac’s breakout single, “I Get Around,” and eventually produced his debut album, 2Pacalypse Now.

Jadakiss Honored DMX With A Food Giveaway In Their Hometown Of Yonkers

When news arrived nearly two weeks ago that DMX had passed away, a rain of condolences arrived in honor of the hip-hop legend. Most used social media to share their thoughts like Ruff Ryders members Swizz Beatz, Sheek Louch and Styles P as well as the group’s co-founder Joaquin “Waah” Dean. A noticeable name missing from that list was Jadakiss, who instead decided to honor DMX by giving back to his Yonkers hometown, the city where the late rapper was also born.

In a video he posted on Instagram, Jadakiss invited his followers to come to Palisades Towers, where he would give out fresh boxes of produce to folks in the city. Its caption also explained the giveaway’s purpose as the rapper wrote, “Food Giveaway in Honor of DMX.”

The move from Jadakiss comes after DMX’s family announced the official memorial services to honor the rapper. The first, a “Celebration Of Life Memorial,” will occur on April 24 at 4 p.m. EST and air on YouTube while a second service, a “Home-going Celebration,” will be held on April 25 at 2:30 p.m. EST and air on BET. Per an announcement from DMX’s manager Steve Rifkind last week, it appears the former will take place at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and the latter will be at a church in the New York City area.

Gunna And Drake’s ‘Solid’ Collaboration Was Originally Supposed To Be On ‘Certified Lover Boy’

Young Thug’s YSL Records collective finally came through with their long-awaited Slime Language 2 compilation last week. It boasted a number of contributions from some of music’s biggest names like Drake, Travis Scott, Future, Kid Cudi and Meek Mill while seeing some of the YSL acts like Lil Keed, Gunna, Unfoonk shine as well. One of the most popular tracks from the album is “Solid,” a song that features Drake, Gunna, and Young Thug.

In a recent sit-down with Billboard that debuted hours after The Call Of Duty: Warzone season three trailer premiered, which Gunna and Thug appear in, the former explained how the Slime Language 2 collaboration came together and shared his thoughts on the Ski Challenge.

“Drake had originally sent me the song for his album and I did it and we was vibing with it for a minute,” Gunna said in the interview about “Solid.” “But then his album didn’t come out and I was still vibing with it, and I’m like ‘Sh*t bro, I wanna put it on Slime Language 2. Let’s put slime (Thug) on it.’ And he was like extra with it and we did, and that’s how that came together.”

As for the Ski Challenge, which sees celebrities and fans alike make skiing motions as Thug and Gunna’s “Ski” collaboration plays in the background, Gunna sees the song reaching great heights because of the challenge. “I feel like [‘Ski’] is like an everybody song so I feel like it’s going to reach everybody,” he said. “You know how many people in the world? I feel like it’s going to keep getting bigger over the years.”

Shock G, Digital Underground Rap Pioneer, Passes Away At 57: Report

In the late 1980s and into the 1990s, Digital Underground always got the party started. Even today, once “The Humpty Dance,” “Same Song,” or Tupac Shakur’s “I Get Around” plays on the speakers, it’s difficult not to run to the dancefloor. Digital Underground—founded by Chopmaster J, Kenny-K, and Shock G—was a worldwide sensation prior to social media apps and viral buzz. At the time, they were one of the more fun-loving, yet controversial collectives on the scene, and later, they would go on to add several members including Pee Wee, Money-B, and Tupac Shakur who acted as a Digital Underground backup dancer early in his career.

On Thursday (April 22), Chopmaster J shocked the Hip Hop world when he shared a post on Instagram with the devastating news that Shock G, also known by his alter ego Humpty Hump, had passed away at 57.

“34 years ago almost to the day we had a wild idea we can be a hip hop band and take on the world through it all the dream became a reality and the reality became a nightmare for some,” Chopmaster J wrote in the caption. “And now he’s awaken from the fame long live shock G Aka Humpty Hump and Rest In Peace my Brotha Greg Jacobs!!! #digitalunderground.”

Reactions to this sad news have been met with stunned reactions, especially on the heels of losing other Hip Hop legends like DMX and Black RobTMZ reports that Shock G’s father, Edward Packer, confirmed the news and added that the rapper was found unresponsive in a Tampa hotel room. A cause of death will be determined once an autopsy is completed.

Long Live Shock G. Rest in peace to a legend. Check out a few responses below.

Nick Young & Fiancée Keonna Green Discuss His Iggy Azalea Breakup

The demise of Nick Young’s relationship with Iggy Azalea was played out in the headlines. The NBA star and the rapper were engaged for about a year before they decided to call things off. Months after they parted ways in 2016, Young and his now-fiancée, Keonna Green, welcomed their second child together. Green and Young dated in the past and already shared a child together, but according to Iggy, she was never made aware that Keonna was pregnant. At the time, Iggy tweeted that it was a “second shot to the chest” following her breakup with Young.

In an upcoming episode of Behind Every Man, Young and Green addressed the controversy. “Keonna, her just being my first love, I felt like we was always gon’ have some type of relationship,” Young said in the clip. “If not be in a relationship.”

“We were never intimate until maybe 2015,” said Keonna. “Maybe a year later? Um, we had a weak moment and from that came my daughter.” The scene cuts to clips of the chaos that ensued years ago when it was revealed that Young and Green had cheated. “I’m not what everybody has painted me out to be,” said Green.

“It’s very hurtful seeing a picture of me in a tabloid and it has mistress,” she added. “That’s not how my grandmother raised me to be. That’s not how my mother raised me to be. And I know everyone’s like, ‘Yeah, be stronger than that. You should have left him and moved on with your life.’ I want to see a woman who hasn’t had a situation like that before.”

The video ends with Keonna reiterating that Young is her “first love.” Swipe below to watch the exclusive Behind Every Man clip shared by The Shade Room.

Nike Air Max 95 LeBron “Lakers” Gets New Release Date

LeBron James has been a huge figure in Los Angeles as he helped bring the Lakers a title last year while in the NBA bubble. While some Lakers fans were skeptical at first, there is no denying that he loves the city and now, he is paying homage by coming out with a special Lakers-themed Nike Air Max 95.

This new LeBron Air Max 95 is special as it has a mismatched upper on both sneakers. On the right shoe you have a purple upper while on the left you have gold. These aesthetics are very obviously a reference to the Lakers and overall, this is a dope take on the infamous purple and gold scheme. Not to mention, the Air Max 95 is always a silhouette that fans can get behind.

This sneaker has been delayed on two separate occasions although now, it is set to be released for $170 USD on Wednesday, April 28th through the Nike SNKRS App. These are a must-cop for all of the Lakers fans out there, so be sure to be on the ball when these hit the app. Let us know what you think, in the comments below.

Young Dolph Calls Out Male Rap Groupies: “Who The Real Hoe?”

It isn’t the women that are only deserving of “groupie” titles, claims Young Dolph. Weeks ago, Dolph once again resurfaced with yet another retirement announcement following the release of his Dum & Dummer 2 joint project with Key Glock. He’s made similar statements in the past and this time, he promised that his collaborative Glock effort would be his last. He may have not offered up an explanation this time around, but he did recently share a few thoughts about how rappers are making moves.

“Y’all rappers must be competing with each other on who can be the lamest. sh*t sad,” the rapper fired off in a tweet.

“Nixxas want validation from these social media apps so bad that it cost em they life [grimacing face emoji],” Dolph added. “ALL YALL NIXXAS CHASIN CLOUT & CHASIN THESE DUCK ASS B*TCHES THATS FUKIN EVERYBODY. SuperLames [crying tears laughing emoji].” Who do you think he’s talking about? Check out his posts below.

Atmos x Nike LeBron 18 Low “Viotech” Drops Tomorrow: Photos

Over the years, Nike has had a solid relationship with Atmos and as a result, the two have delivered some incredible shoes. Just a couple of decades ago, Nike and Atmos linked up on a Nike Air Max 1 colorway which was called “Viotech.” This is a model that many fans remember fondly and over the years, some have wondered if it would come back. Well, this colorway is, indeed, making a comeback except this time around it will be on the Nike LeBron 18 Low.

In the official images below, you can see how the LeBron silhouette helps this colorway stay true to the original “Viotech” model. Here, we have a nice brown upper that works all the way through, all while the Nike swoosh is purple and the midsole is orange. The details work together in perfect harmony and if you like the old Atmos offerings, then you truly cannot go wrong with these kicks.

The release date is actually taking place tomorrow, Friday the 23rd of April in Asia. There is going to be a United States drop as well although the timing has yet to be announced. Let us know if you’re looking forward to these, in the comments below.

Kehlani Jokes About Coming Out To Family, Links Up With SZA & Lizzo

It was sometime around Valentine’s Day when we saw that Lizzo and SZA linked for a Galentine’s get-together. The ladies wore matching, red fuzzy lingerie and posed for bestie-centered flicks that were shared on social media, and they’ve reunited once again—this time with Kehlani on deck. Kehlani has been actively uploading TikTok’s in recent days and people have been soaking up all the new content from the It Was Good Until It Wasn’t singer.

In five days, Lizzo will celebrate her 33rd birthday, but a few TikTok clips suggest she may have got an early start on the festivities with her good friends, Kehlani and SZA.

The trio was photographed leaving The Nice Guy, a restaurant that is a celebrity favorite in Los Angeles. The ladies did their best TikTok faces in a clip that has gone viral, but it was Kehlani’s recent post that stole attention from fans. We previously reported that Kehlani came out as a lesbian, and in her video, she jokes about the reaction her loved ones had to the news.

According to Kehlani, when she told friends and family, they weren’t all that surprised. She teased that the reaction wasn’t enough and she wanted people to be more shocked and in awe than they were. Check out all the posts below.
