DMX Is Off Life Support & Breathing On His Own: Report

Earlier today, shocking and heartbreaking news spread like wildfire as it was revealed that legendary rapper DMX had suffered an overdose on Friday night. Troubling details continued to emerge as Hip-Hop fans learned that, in addition to the overdose, the It’s Dark And Hell Is Hot artist had also experienced a heart attack and was in a vegetative state. Hours later, DMX’s team has come forward to give a hopeful update on his condition.

Following the outpouring of support from several Hip-Hop heavyweights, DMX’s longtime lawyer Murray Richman has given fans an update on the iconic artist’s status, revealing that DMX is officially off life support, but although he is breathing on his own, he is still showing minimal brain activity.

“He’s been taken off of life support,” Richman says. “He is breathing on his own but there is a little brain activity.”

According to NBC News, when asked for more details as to what caused DMX’s heart attack, the attorney said that he did not know what caused the life-threatening emergency. Instead, he offered kind words about DMX, who he fondly refers to as Earl.

“Earl is a sweet guy,” Richman said. “Earl was a person who could tell such a story. He was a person with such depth. It’s a heartbreaker.”

Prayers up that DMX will continue to pull through. Stay tuned for updates.

Quelly Woo Picks Up Where Pop Smoke Left Off On “Tactical Pressure”

Brooklyn may have another soon-to-be superstar on its hands.

After treating fans with the motivational single “Pain Into Passion” at the tail-end of February, New York rapper Quelly Woo has finally dropped off his new project Tactical Pressure. With a voice and delivery that’s eerily similar to the late Pop Smoke’s, Quelly Woo uses his latest release to pick up where his fellow Brooklyn artist left off.

The full title of the Canarsie, Brooklyn-based rapper’s new project is Tactical Pressure Volume One, A Movie Starrting Quelly Woo aka Mr. TP, and although Quelly Woo’s nine-track project isn’t packed with movie-like skits, it does boast a bunch of the cinematic production that the Brooklyn Drill scene is known for. The extended title of the project also adds context to Quelly Woo’s nickname Mr. TP, which he reveals to be an abbreviation for “Tactical Pressure.”

The Pop Smoke influence is clear all throughout the rising artist’s new EP, especially on the project’s closer “TNP (Tomorrow Never-Promised),” and Quelly even shouted out the late Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon artist, saying, “R.I.P THE LEGEND I KNO HE WOO WALKIN UP IN HEAVEN.”

If you’re interested, give Quelly Woo’s Tactical Pressure a listen below.

DMX Has Been Taken Off Life Support And Is ‘Breathing On His Own’ According To His Lawyer

Hip-hop fans from near and far have been on edge on Saturday following news of DMX’s drug overdose and hospitalization early in the morning. TMZ confirmed that the rapper suffered the overdose Friday night at his home. He was then taken to a White Plains, New York hospital where he was listed in “grave condition” at the facility’s critical care unit. It was also reported that he suffered a heart attack due to the overdose.

For much of the day, updates about his health were nonexistent until his lawyer, Murray Richman, spoke to New York’s Pix11 News where he delivered somewhat of a relieving update on the rapper’s condition.

“He’s in the hospital as a result of a heart attack,” Richman said during a zoom call with Pix11 News. “He has been taken off [the] life support system and he’s been breathing on his own.”

While this may be comforting news for the time being, Richman added that they are not in the clear with the rapper just yet.

“We are concerned,” he said. “It would be disingenuous of me to suggest that I’m not a worried man at this particular point.” During their broadcast, Pix11 News said that DMX’s lawyer would not confirmed whether or not the rapper’s hospitalization and heart attack was the result of a drug overdose.

Since hearing the news early Saturday morning, a number of people from the music world have sent their well wishes to the rapper in hopes of a speedy recovery.

You can hear Richman’s words in the video above.

Tory Lanez Lands The Cover Of Flaunt Magazine

Despite his ongoing case regarding the shooting of Megan Thee Stallion last summer, Tory Lanez continues to prove that even cancel culture can’t hold back his career. Since the controversial incident last year, several media outlets have vowed to stop covering all news related to the DAYSTAR artist, but earlier today, it was revealed that the rapper-singer-songwriter has landed one of the latest covers of Flaunt Magazine.

Holding down the cover for the digital edition of Flaunt’s “The Dawn Chorus” issue, Tory rocks a Fendi suit with no shirt, a pair of Nike Air Force 1s, and a modest assortment of jewelry. The PLAYBOY artist’s latest magazine cover appears to be his first since last April’s VIBE cover, months before he was accused of shooting Megan The Stallion, and throughout the cover story, Tory discusses a myriad of topics, from working with Chris Brown to his idea of success.

According to the Toronto artist, he has already achieved monetary success but he’s currently looking forward to a moment in the near future when the world will once again recognize his artistry.

When asked what that would look like, Tory replied, “You ever seen that meme of DMX on the stage performing to the whole world? He’s performing to a million people, that’s how I feel. I’m going to stop wars with my music like how Bob Marley did. I’m going to do certain things that are so above and beyond other artists.”

With this news coming a month after Tory Lanez argued that he was being blackballed and censored by DSPs, are you surprised to see the Canadian artist grace the cover of Flaunt Magazine?

Revisit Big Sean & Jhené Aiko’s “On The Way” On The Fifth Anniversary Of ‘TWENTY88’

On April 1, 2016, Jhené Aiko and Big Sean doubled down on their excellent chemistry and released the Hip-Hop and R&B collab album TWENTY88. Apart from sparking countless rumors about the romance between the two artists, TWENTY88 showcased both Sean and Jhené at their best — creatively, sonically, and lyrically. Five years after their 2016 team-up, fans have yet to receive a proper follow-up to TWENTY88, but the duo has appeared from time to time on Jhené and Sean’s last couple of solo albums.

Laced with just eight tracks, TWENTY88 only featured one song that boasted guest appearances, giving the project the opportunity to showcase how great Big Sean and Jhené Aiko sounded together on wax. One of the songs that really exemplified the great pairing was “On The Way,” a flirty and sensual song that finds both artists expressing their lust for each other. The infectious album cut also serves as the opening song on “Out of Love,” the 14-minute short film that accompanied the artists’ 2016 collaboration.

Revisit Big Sean and Jhené Aiko’s joint project Twenty88 by listening to “On The Way” or watch the project’s short film “Out of Love” below.

Memphis Woman Opens Fire At Burger King Employees: Report

Apart from Lil Wayne’s epic Burger King brand tweet, the fast-food restaurant chain has been having a bit of a hard time as of late. Last month, Burger King faced backlash for a controversial International Women’s Day tweet, and this week, reports have surfaced that a Burger King in Memphis, Tennessee was allegedly shot up after a woman got tired of waiting in the drive-thru line.

Contrary to the 2020 Burger King incident in which an employee pulled a gun out on an unsatisfied customer, this latest incident involves a disgruntled patron. According to WREG Memphis, a woman became upset about the wait for food and started a verbal altercation while standing in the drive-thru, and before employees knew it, she had climbed halfway through the drive-thru window and started opening fire on the employees.

Thankfully, no one was hurt during the altercation, as the Burger King employees were able to flee the scene through the back door. According to WREG Memphis, the ridiculous situation has left some police and locals wondering if the woman was already upset when she entered the drive-thru. No arrests have been made as of yet, but photos reveal that the shooter was accompanied by a male who was driving a gray sedan.

Nicki Minaj Shatters Another Record After “Anaconda” Video Hits 1 Billion Views

Recently, conversations surrounding Nicki Minaj and her legacy have been reignited. Most notably, Joe Budden recently set aside his personal feelings about the native New Yorker to declare that she deserves way more recognition by major institutions in the industry like The Recording Academy for her musical achievements. Considering her lack of Grammy awards, it’s obvious that credit has yet to be given to the blueprint. The numbers do speak for themselves, though, and the hitmaker has just achieved another never-before reached feat.

Based on updated data from Youtube confirmed by chart data aggregate source chart data, the 38-year-old Queen of Rap‘s visual for her 2014 single “Anaconda” off her third studio album The Pinkprint has just surpassed 1 billion views on Youtube. This becomes her sixth video including as a featured artist to surpass this threshold. More impressively, the video becomes the video by a solo female rapper to achieve this.

At the time of its release, the visual for “Anaconda” had an indisputable impact on pop culture. Breaking the 24-hour Vevo streaming record by accumulating 19.6 million views in its first day, Nicki received backlash for the raunchy derriere-filled visual. Some called her “desperate” to sell records. The video was later ranked as the 13th greatest video of the decade by Billboard.

As for Joe Budden’s comments about the first lady of Young Money, he echoed the calls of many other rappers in the game. “Nicki Minaj needs her flowers. Whoever the Grammy board is, whoever’s on there, y’all are not the one’s that get to determine that Nicki Minaj and all of her impact and influence don’t get to win an award. I’m sorry,” said Budden on his podcast.

Congrats to Nicki on earning this new distinction!

Isaiah Thomas Honors Kobe Bryant With New Pelicans Number

Isaiah Thomas has been waiting a long time to be back in the NBA but this past week, he finally got his wish as the New Orleans Pelicans signed him to a 10-day contract. The Pelicans are a team who are trying to find their way right now and after trading away JJ Redick, it was only right that the team signed a new point guard. After all, Thomas is a player who can still offer up some solid production, and it’s suspicious that he wasn’t in the league already, to begin with.

While Thomas has mostly worn the number four throughout his career, he will be changing things up in New Orleans. As you can see in the post below, Thomas will now be donning the number 24 which was famously worn by Kobe Bryant. Thomas confirmed that the new number was indeed an homage to the Lakers legend.

Kobe tributes have been frequent around the NBA over the past few years and for good reason. He is one of the biggest legends the game has ever seen and it only makes sense that some of the biggest stars would show their appreciation.

Starting now, Thomas has a real opportunity to stay in the NBA, and hopefully, his new number will help guide him to success.
