Village People’s Victor Willis Slams The Weeknd For Grammy Protest: “Lighten Up”

Village People founder, Victor Willis tore into The Weeknd on Facebook, Monday, for his continued protest of the Grammy Awards. Willis implied The Weeknd is a hypocrite for his refusal to participate in the award ceremony.

“Pssst, “The Weeknd,” lighten up on the Grammys already why don’t cha!?” he wrote in the statement on Facebook.

He continued:

You see, while black artists like me were making honest complaints about the secret committees, you were busy racking up one Grammy after another under those secret committees. I don’t recall you complaining about the secret committees when you were benefitting from those secret committees. But on the one occasion the secret committees didn’t benefit you, the Grammys are suddenly corrupt, and it’s off with their heads?

Willis also told The Weeknd to cut Harvey Mason Jr. “some slack.” Mason signed on to be the new chief of the Academy in early 2020.

He explained that Mason is “making real, meaningful and historic changes that will likely benefit the music business for decades to come.”

It was reported, last week, that the Grammys would be removing secret voting committees in response to the backlash sparked by The Weeknd.

Lloyd Banks Has Completed His Album, Hovain Confirms

If you’ve been waiting for bars from the PLK, then you might be in luck this year. As fans continue to demand Lloyd Banks to release new music, he’s continued teasing fans about his possible return. The trail of hints Lloyd Banks has left has formed speculation that he’ll be dropping a new project, though Banks has yet to confirm that himself.

Lloyd Banks’ manager Hovain came through with some great news today during an appearance on The Need To Know podcast. While listing off the slew of artists he manages, Hovain clarified that Banks’ album is complete. “Banks is on the way… the album is done.. 101% done,” he said.

The brief update on the project is better than any other tidbit of information we’ve received. Last year, the rapper took to Twitter where he revealed that he was on a hunt for beats. In late February, Banks previewed some gritty bars that had fans excited to hear what he had in store for his next album, if it ever saw a release date.

Earlier this month, Lloyd Banks previewed the trailer for COTI which seems like the potential title to his new project. No bars were previewed but it seemed like a promising sign that we’re nearing the release of new music from Banks.

Check out Hovain’s interview below.

Logan Paul Spars With The Gronkowski Brothers: “These Are Huge Humans!”

Logan Paul sparred with four of the Gronkowski brothers in a new video for the family’s YouTube channel, ahead of his upcoming fight with Floyd Mayweather. While Paul took on Gordie, Dan, Chris, and Glenn, Buccaneers tight-end Rob served as the referee.

“I was the official referee,” Rob told TMZ. “And good thing I was the official referee. My referring skills were pretty legit, 12 out of 10!”

All four of Rob’s brother’s played professional sports in some capacity. Paul said that Glenn, a former fullback for the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots, may have been the toughest.

“They’re massive,” Logan said. “I’m f**king 6’2”, 200 pounds and I go in there and all of Rob’s brothers are towering over me! They’re all taller than me vertically, they’re all wider than me horizontally. These are huge humans! “

He added: “Honestly, I walked in and I was like, ‘Alright, I’m pretty sure I’m gonna kick their ass but I cannot get hit obviously.’ They don’t know how to box but they got some power and if they hit me, that could be it, man!”

Paul says he plans to release the entirety of the sparring footage later this week.

DJ Khaled “Khaled Khaled” Review

DJ Khaled’s ascent to stardom finds him at ‘relaxed’ for the first time, if that’s even a word that could describe the frenetic energy of the DJ. The evolution from hip-hop to pop, anxiety to wellness, is reflected in each title. He’s no longer Suffering From Success but embracing it. He admitted he switched up on the subsequent album, IChanged A Lot which one could regard as a premonition for his foray into pop music. The thing is, Khaled has always been around the right people, which is why he can easily brag about having one of Lil Wayne’s best verses ever on “We Takin Over.” Or, bridging the intergenerational gap between the hedonistic God of the trap and the Almighty HOV on “Top Off” along with Beyoncé. Khaled has the reach, relationships, and resources that very few artists have and would make for an outstanding album, pop or otherwise, yet his eponymous album fails to fully utilize all three to their fullest potential.

With nearly 30 of the biggest stars in hip-hop and R&B attached to Khaled Khaled, the show’s main attraction does offer enough versatility across the tracklist to find at least one song worth returning to. The gargantuan names are met with an equally massive production that could have benefited from a bit of minimalism. Take the intro track, “THANKFUL” featuring Jeremih and Lil Wayne, for example. It meets the gospel influence with victorious flutes, sampling the melody from Bobby Bland’s “Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City” — the same sample Jay-Z used on The Blueprint. It does little else but offer a sense of familiarity, and when you’re referencing someone like Hov, there’s a high standard to uphold. Jeremih’s performance on “THANKFUL” lives up to the orchestral-level production, if only for the real-life inspiration gleaned from his publicized bout with COVID-19. Khaled’s problem with using and repurposing classic anthems also burdens the Migos and H.E.R.-accompanied, “WE GOING CRAZY.” Though Migos’ presence on the record seems appropriate for an ode to the late ATL legend Shawty Lo, H.E.R largely carries the reggae-tinged record. Unfortunately, not even H.E.R.’s hook is strong enough to ignore Quavo’s unruly “CRAZY” ad-libs on the hook.

Unlike previous releases from DJ Khaled, there are few references to “keys” on Khaled Khaled. His key to success is based on a formula, and it’s one he seems unwilling to change at this point in his career. What’s worse about it, at this stage, is that he seems to have no need to even try go about it discreetly. “I DID IT” ft. Post Malone, Megan Thee Stallion, DaBaby, and Lil Baby attempt to recreate the victorious kick of “ALL I DO IS WIN” but instead of electrifying synth chords, it’s the shredding distorted electric guitar of Derek & The Dominos “Layla.” Even Bryson Tiller’s appearance alongside Lil Baby and Roddy Ricch on “BODY IN MOTION” sounds like it’s simultaneously trying to reproduce the fiery summer blare of “Wild Thoughts” and DaBaby’s “ROCKSTAR” — last year’s song of the summer. It’s no coincidence that Roddy Ricch makes an appearance on “BODY IN MOTION,” either.

There are a few highlights on the project that are worth mentioning. Out of his three features on Khaled Khaled, Lil Baby’s first appearance alongside Lil Durk remains the strongest. Perhaps, it’s because Khaled now has the official precursor to the long-awaited Voice Of The Heroes album. Tay Keith’s exhilarating production is equally muddy as it is flashy, while Baby and Durk’s collaborative streak extends further with glimpses into their rags-to-riches success. Melodies might drive their respective successes to the top of every chart imaginable, but they hone in on the thrilling production with guttural delivery.

Khaled’s affinity for Jamaica is well-documented — sound clashes in his teen years to his brief cameo in Shottas. There’s an homage to Jamaica on each one of his albums and Khaled Khaled carries that tradition with a historical collaboration. Despite the overwhelming criticism surrounding Khaled’s A&R abilities, the marriage of reggae and the principles of hip-hop form beautifully on “WHERE YOU COME FROM” featuring. Buju Banton, Capleton, and Bounty Killer. 9th Wonder chops up Barrington Levy’s “Under Mi Sensi” into jolting vocal samples and buoyant croons for a potential song of the summer.

The intention with this album, as it perhaps is with every album in DJ Khaled’s discography, is crystal clear: dominate the airwaves with show-stopping guestlists and records that feel familiar. Jay-Z and Nas’ “SORRY NOT SORRY” led the album for this exact reason. Yet, such a pronounced desire for commercial success actually drowns out the potential for Khaled to create a classic. Khaled’s biggest disservice on this project, then, is losing sight of the culture for widespread appeal.

Lil Pump Posts A Threatening Video After Broke His Car Windows

Florida rapper Lil Pump was understandably upset when he discovered that someone busted the windows of his luxury car over the weekend, posting a video in which he threatens the as-yet-unknown culprits with violent repercussions. Panning his phone’s camera over the damage, Pump promised, “Whoever did this, I’ma catch you and I’ma blow your brains out… Step foot in my yard again. I want you to step foot in my yard. I’ma be up for three days straight… That’s a free body for me.”

Pump seems to have gotten himself into a number of disagreements over the past year, including with JetBlue Airlines after refusing to wear a mask during a December flight and with Eminem fans after lashing out at the elder rapper over Eminem’s derogatingly name-checking him in songs.

Of course, Pump also seemingly invited the disapproval of a great many outspoken hip-hop fans when he decided to endorse Donald Trump’s re-election run — despite not being registered to vote himself — even going so far as releasing the baffling single, “Lil Pimp Big MAGA Steppin.”

After doing so much to alienate so many people, it’s not hard to believe that the destruction was meant to antagonize Pump, but it’s equally likely he’s merely seeing the rift between rabblerousing youth and adults from the other side.,

Ice Cube Explains How Kobe Bryant Is Similar To Bruce Lee

Kobe Bryant was a big fan of Bruce Lee and when it came to their mentalities, they were quite similar. Legendary rapper Ice Cube was also a big fan of Bruce Lee and he just so happened to be a good friend of Kobe Bryant. With this in mind, you can just imagine what kind of impact their deaths had on Cube. During an episode of the Getcha Popcorn Ready podcast with Terrell Owens and Matthew Hachette, Ice Cube explained what made Kobe and Lee so similar and why they were special to him.

“It’s like losing a superhero. I remember having a superhero like Bruce Lee and finding out he… you know. I put Kobe in that category in a way,” Cube said. “So it’s a great loss to our courage in a way. People like Kobe help all of us, summons the spirit in us, you know what I mean? To be the best.”

In his own life, Cube admitted that he likes to try and replicate that Mamba Mentality in a bid to always make sure that he is putting maximum effort into whatever he does. Cube even complimented Owens for being the exact same way.

“It takes courage to go there and challenge yourself because that’s the fight nobody knows but you” Cube said. “To challenge yourself, to go further, get better, and be better in that, you’re good but not good enough, keep going. This is what I love about athletes like, with that spirit that Kobe, I give T.O. that spirit too.”

This weekend, Kobe will be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and it will be a truly emotional time for all of his fans. We’re sure Cube will be watching and reminiscing about Kobe’s incredible career as a Laker.

Jennifer Lopez & Ben Affleck Reportedly Together At Resort, Sparking Dating Rumors

Recently-single Jennifer Lopez seems to be ready to rekindle old relationships. After breaking off her engagement to baseball superstar Aaron Rodriguez in mid-April, she has reportedly already been spending time with her ex, movie star Ben Affleck. Affleck is also recently single after splitting from his girlfriend, actress Ana de Armas, in January 2021, after being together for a year.

Affleck and Lopez have a complicated past, first getting together as young stars in 2002. They got engaged after dating for six months but the bliss was short-lived as they called off their September 2003 wedding. Shortly after that, they got back together again, until breaking up in 2004.

According to a source of ELLE, who is reportedly close to either exes, they have remained friends ever since, but feelings are still there.

Tabloids suspected the two of spending some time together at J-Lo’s home in Los Angeles last week. The actor was supposedly seen being dropped off and picked up at a location near the singer’s home, in order to avoid having his actions being filmed by the paparazzi.

This past weekend the pair took their reunion to the mountains, taking a trip to the Big Sky Resort in Montana. The scenic vacation was located right nearby Yellowstone National Park.

TMZ reports Lopez and Affleck returned to Los Angeles together flying “out of Montana together Sunday from Bozeman, Montana to L.A. When they arrived in L.A. at the Signature Terminal at LAX, they took an SUV together and drove to her house in Bel-Air.”

With past romantic history and a recent reconnection, there is certainly speculation that the two may be an item again. What do you think?
