Missy Elliott Celebrates The 20th Anniversary Of ‘Miss E’ By Sharing Her 2001 MTV VMA Performance

This past Saturday (May 15) was the 20th anniversary of the release of Missy Elliott‘s groundbreaking third album, Miss E… So Addictive. Back in 2001, the album’s singles, “Get Ur Freak On” and “One Minute Man,” turned the rap game upside down with their innovative videos and inescapable beats produced by Timbaland. To celebrate the milestone, Missy has shared her performance of both songs from the 2001 MTV VMAs along with guest rappers Ludacris and Trina, as well as pop star Nelly Furtado.

While the original event was one of the “you had to be there” moments of the early 2000s, the remarkably well-preserved video gives fans a glimpse into the high-energy performances that made Missy Elliott an icon worthy of receiving a Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award in 2019. A massive chandelier, a giant Missy head idol statue, and a fleet of backup dancers all contribute to a surreal experience, which admirably reproduces the likewise Dali-esque feel of Missy’s generation-inspiring music videos.

Although there are no currently announced plans for an anniversary edition of Miss E… So Addictive, I’d stay tuned. With an artist as unpredictable as Missy, you never know what you might get.

It’s been over 47 years since DJ Kool Herc hosted the block party in South Bronx that many would credit as the moment hip-hop was born. Hip-hop has influenced the world in many ways and with its 50 year anniversary on the way, Nas’ Mass Appeal and Sasha Jenkins for Hip Hop 50 on Showtime — a series exploring the rich history of the culture for Showtime.

The Queensbridge giant and the revered director will be partnering for a series that will focus on different eras of hip-hop through various documentaries. Untitled Ralph McDaniels Documentary, for example, explores the impact of “Video Music Box.” Other documentaries and content include a documentary by Estevan Oriol on Cypress Hill and Push It which focuses on the many contributions women made to the culture. Also planned are podcasts and unscripted shows.

You’re going to see the stories from every element of hip-hop, whether it’s the street stories, whether it’s the MCing. Whatever it is, we want to celebrate and push this birthday party to the max.”

“When we look at the breadth of what ‘Hip Hop 50’ is, you see that our influence to fashion, to language, to sound, visuals. Our influence is global, and it has affected generations, and it’s the dominant voice right now,” added Jenkins.

Lil Moe 6Blocka Stuns With His Raw New Single “Nothin”

Lil Moe 6Blocka is one of Chicago’s most eye-catching new rappers, and he’s only 16 years old. Last summer, the young upstart went viral with his music video for “6Blocka,” in which he famously rapped, “I ain’t even 16 with a 16 you can get clapped at.”

Since then, Lil Moe 6Blocka has been steadily delivering heat on tracks such as “Ion Know,” “Leave Em Stretched,” and “Risky” with 22Gz. Now the teenage FBG Duck and Dooski Tha Man-affiliated rapper has returned with a ferocious new single, titled “Nothin.”

Similar to its name, “Nothin” is a melody-deprived, high-octane record that features Lil Moe 6Blocka ripping through menacing bars for two minutes straight. The song’s beat is sparse, chaotic, and the perfect sonic backdrop for Lil Moe 6Blocka’s stunning performance.

Soulja Boy Questions Why Kanye West Has Spoken To Elon Musk But He Hasn’t

Soulja Boy is an innovator and trailblazer in the rap game with bigger aspirations outside of the music industry. We know that, though. He’s still on a mission to bring the Soulja Boy console to the masses, even if there’s reluctance among dedicated gamers. However, the rapper’s innovated and changed the way we use technology. He even reminded us earlier this year that he predicted the COVID-era of dating with his smash hit, “Kiss Me Thru The Phone.”

If you’ve been following the rapper’s Twitter account lately, you know that he, like many others, has been heavy on the crypto wave. In a recent interview with HNHH, the rapper briefly touched on crypto and being the first rapper to make an NFT. For someone who has been on the cutting edge of technology for the past decade, Soulja Boy explained that he has the utmost respect for Elon Musk.

“I love Elon Musk. I’m right there with them. Dogecoin going to the moon. Let’s go. What we waiting on. Get it to a dollar, today. Now,” he said. “Love Elon, support everything that he does. Yes. Genius. Yes. Don’t play with Elon Musk, at all.”

However, the two have yet to actually sit down with each other for any sort of meeting but Draco insists that he has some ideas for Musk including adding video games to his vehicles.

“No, I ain’t talked to Elon Musk,” he said. “Why hasn’t Soulja Boy talked to Elon Musk? He talked to Kanye, right? Elon Musk get on the phone with Soulja Boy, damn! I got ideas and shit, too! I like Tesla too, n****! What the fuck? I got my own video game console. Put that shit in a Tesla! Don’t you got video games in a Tesla? Who gon’ establish these connections for me?! That’s why I signed to Virgin Music! Virgin, help me!”

Don Toliver Reveals The Planned Release Window For His Album ‘L.O.A.D (Life Of A Don)’

Don Toliver, who is signed to Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Records and was originally planned as an XXL Freshman cover artist last year, has a tremendous buzz — so much so that when he didn’t appear on the Freshman list, fans were vocally upset about the omission. That didn’t stop him from having one of the most well-received mixtape releases of the year in Heaven Or Hell, which only primed the anticipation for his debut album even further.

In a new profile story about Cactus Jack for Flaunt, a planned release window for the album was revealed. The album, titled L.O.A.D. (Life of a Don), is tentatively set for release in July. Toliver explained the long wait for the release as such: “It took time. It wasn’t an overnight thing at all. I had to do a lot, but it feels good to get here.”

In the meantime, Toliver’s been highly demanded as his collaborations with artists like Nas (“Replace Me“), Internet Money (“Lemonade” and more recently “His & Hers“), and Rico Nasty (“Don’t Like Me“), as well as his album’s lead single “What You Need,” have raised his profile with each passing month. By the time July rolls around, don’t be surprised if his debut appears near the top of the Billboard 200 as fans lean into learning about the life of a don.

Don Toliver is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Paper Route Empire Artist Kenny Muney Shot Twice In Atlanta: Report

Shortly after the shooting that injured Lil Reese in Chicago, news of another Hip-Hop related shooting has surfaced. According to HipHopDX, up-and-coming rapper and Paper Route Empire signee Kenny Muney was reportedly shot at in Atlanta while at an intersection near the Atlantic Station retail district. Fortunately, reports reveal that Muney was “alert, conscious and breathing” once taken to a nearby hospital, and since his injuries were not life-threatening, he was subsequently released.

Once police arrived on the scene, they found the Memphis native shot in both his hip and elbow, and upon questioning, Muney explained that he was at an intersection when someone in a vehicle started shooting at him.

According to HipHopDX, police have been unable to identify any suspects, but they did find that there were “nine defects from being struck by bullets” in Muney’s grey Mercedes-Benz, 22 shell casings scattered at the scene, and a Glock 19 in Muney’s car. Furthermore, reports show that Muney also rammed his car into the side of another vehicle during the shooting, causing additional damages.

A witness on site reportedly described the shooting as a “bit scary” due to the “bullets flying,” and they went on to say, “I don’t know exactly what happened, but I honestly believe from what I saw it was kind of like a cut-off or some kind of an incident, maybe he tapped them or something, and it was just over a car dispute.”

Having already been shot on two separate occasions in 2018, this incident marks another life-threatening situation for Young Dolph’s rising artist. Luckily, Kenny Muney is expected to make a full recovery.
