Lil Yachty Returns With Moody New Single “Love Music”

Lil Yachty released his Michigan Boy Boat mixtape back in April of this year. Filled with guest vocals from the likes of Tee Grizzley, Veeze, Swae Lee, Sada Baby, Baby Smoove, and more, the tape showcased the rapper employing elements of Michigan rap, describing the project as a tribute for his “second home.”

Fans of the Atlanta artist’s melodic sound will rejoice after streaming his latest single “Love Music.” “This my test to see how my fans who keep saying drop melodic music ima see how yall react,” tweeted the rapper after announcing the single Monday (June 28). The moody cut marks a departure from his Michigan Boy Boat sound and instead demonstrates a new side of Yachty.

The alt-pop production of the track compliments Yachty’s already-established melodic expertise and story-telling abilities. The single is accompanied by a visualizer of the track’s sketched black-and-white artwork. Elsewhere for the 23-year-old emcee, he’s kept busy by working on different ventures including a new series for HBO Max based on the “UNO” card game, his “YachtyCoin” cryptocurrency, and more.

Doja Cat Says She Collaborated With J.I.D & Smino To Help Grow Their Platforms

Despite Doja Cat’s new album, Planet Her, boasting credits from some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Young Thug, The Weeknd, SZA, and Ariana Grande, Doja says she likes to include less mainstream artists as well to give them recognition. In a recent interview, she cited her collaborations with J.I.D and Smino to have been done for this reason.

“I care about rap, I do,” she said in a new interview with Apple Music’s Ebro Darden. “I feel like with Hot Pink, I put Smino on there because I know he’s out of this world talented. Putting J.I.D on this album, was the same thing. I feel like these rappers need a platform — they need to be shown to the world more and if I can do that, I’m gonna do it.”

J.I.D pops up on Planet Her’s 10th track, “Options,” while Smino appeared on Doja’s last record, Hot Pink, on the song “Won’t Bite.”

Doja isn’t wrong about her platform. Planet Her is expected to sell 100,000 total album-equivalent units and debut on the Billboard 200 at the No. 2 spot, behind Tyler, The Creator’s Call Me If You Get Lost.

Jay-Z’s Lawyer Says Dame Dash Went Into Explosive Rant During Roc-A-Fella Meeting

Jay-Z and Dame Dash are at the height of a legal dispute surrounding Roc-A-Fella Records and Hov’s debut album, Reasonable Doubt. Per AllHipHop, Dame Dash recently filed a motion in court to have Alex Spiro, Jay’s attorney, removed from the case on grounds of a conflict of interest. Dame insisted that Jay was solely an artist/shareholder on the label and that Spiro was not able to represent the label since he is Jay’s personal attorney.

Spiro fired back at Dame Dash’s claim in a recent filing, claiming the music mogul was caught “red-handed” trying to illegally pawn off Roc-A-Fella property. Spiro added that Dame did attempt to sell Reasonable Doubt but later claimed it was his stake in RAF that he was trying to auction off as an NFT.

“Dash does not oppose RAF, Inc.’s request for injunctive relief. That’s no surprise: he was caught red-handed trying to steal and auction RAF, Inc.’s property, a NFT of the copyright to Jay-Z’s debut album Reasonable Doubt,” Spiro said. “Dash tries to backtrack, claiming he intended to sell only his 1/3 interest in RAF, Inc, and for ‘reasons unknown’ SuperFarm misunderstood his intentions. That’s an obvious lie, but nonetheless it’s irrelevant here.”

He added that Jay-Z isn’t trying to prevent Dash from selling his shares in Roc-A-Fella but suggested that topic is “a fight for another day.”

Spiro later spoke on a board of director’s meeting that included Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke where the RAF shareholders voted on the bylaws of the company. Unfortunately, the meeting ended with a long-winded rant from Dame, according to Spiro. “The board meeting lasted for about 10 minutes…it would have been even shorter if Dash didn’t explode in an angry, unprofessional, and incoherent rant,” Spiro said.

Hov’s attorney is seeking to rule against Dame’s motion to remove him from the case.

Fabolous’ ‘So Into You’ Video Makes DDG, Yung Baby Tate, And More Nostalgic For Better Times

React Like You Know is back! This time around we’ve got some new faces mixed in with the familiar favorites from our panel, including Beanz, Blxst, Snow The Product, and Yung Baby Tate. After enjoying a trip down Nostalgia Road with Missy Elliott last time around, we stuck with the 106 & Park classics yet again with Fabolous’ 2003 Street Dreams single “So Into You” featuring Tamia.

It was a simpler time; the pants were baggy, the caps were fitted, and music video countdowns dominated our after-school television viewing. Back then, the “Holla Back” rapper was a sex symbol — a fact that leaves Yung Baby Tate bemused. “I’m screaming at the fact that anybody ever found him attractive,” she admits, although she’s definitely exaggerating on the “screaming.”

A few of the panel artists also notice the presence of actress K.D. Aubert, who did indeed get her start appearing in music videos before landing roles in Friday After Next, Soul Plane, and most recently, Nick Cannon’s streetball drama She Ball. YBT’s got some thoughts here too, but I’ll let you catch those for yourself. There are also some fun stories about ringtones, throwbacks, and having crushes that have them relating to the song’s lovesick chorus.

John Lithgow Returns To Reprise Role In “Dexter” Reboot

More news about the return of Showtime’s Dexter continues to be released. The reboot is a limited series of ten episodes that is set to air in the Fall of this year. Showtime already announced that series star Michael C. Hall will return, and of course, he’s also been featured in teasers. Now, we’ve just found out that John Lithgow, who starred in Dexter’s original run, is set to come back to the series as well.

Dexter was a crime drama that originally aired from 2007 to 2013. The show starred Michael C. Hall as the titular character and depicted him as a murderous vigilante. The initial run of the show earned 24 Primetime Emmy Awards.

Per Deadline, John Lithgow is reportedly expected to only film for a day or two for the show in Los Angeles, within the next week. Lithgow’s character, the Trinity Killer, was killed off during initial airing of the series. The news has caused fans to question how the character will make his way back into the show. For this role, Lithgow won the Outstanding Guest Actor award at the 2010 Primetime Emmy’s.

The clues pertaining to Dexter’s reboot are scarce. On May 25, the show’s official Twitter page tweeted what fans perceived to be a potential key plot point for the new season. A full-on trailer for the upcoming season has yet to drop, but the show’s Twitter page released a teaser on April 22 and another one on June 20.
