Kenny Mason Rates The Best Vegan Treats On “Snack Review”

Plant-based diets seem to be pretty trendy right now, but it’s definitely the way to go if you care about your long-term health and well-being. A plant-based diet has been proven by doctors and nutritionists to reduce the risk of heart disease, brain disease, and so many of the other leading causes of death in America by an incredible percentage. If you know, you know.

Atlanta rapper Kenny Mason has seemingly adopted a vegan lifestyle, eating plant-based and helping similarly-minded folks find the best snacks on the market. If you’re vegan, you already know how much of a pain in the neck it can be to find tasty alternatives to some of your favorite snacks. While it may be easier to find vegan goodies in Los Angeles, New York, and other major cities across the country, it’s still pretty rough to find suitable munchies in other cities that aren’t harmful to animals or the environment. Kenny Mason, the Angelic Hoodrat himself, came through to rate some of his pick-ups from a corner store in LA.

Sitting on his balcony overlooking the Hollywood sign, the 26-year-old artist tried out a few plant-based treats for the latest episode of Snack Review, chowing down on pigless pork rinds (which were his favorite!), flavored broccoli bites, a CBD-infused kombucha, mushroom jerky (which he clearly wasn’t a fan of), and much more. If you’ve been on the lookout for new snack foods to diversify your palate, or if you’ve been struggling to find vegan snack alternatives, watch the new episode of Snack Review above and stay tuned for the second part of Kenny’s interview in the coming days.

Kodak Black Threw Thousands Of Dollars In The Ocean And Down A Toilet

“Throwing your money away” is a common expression that means somebody is wasting their funds on useless things or are otherwise living with a lack of financial smarts. Kodak Black, however, decided to take that statement literally by actually getting rid of stacks of hundred dollar bills.

In a video shared on Instagram last night, the rapper is on a boat, grabbing stacks of hundreds and throwing them overboard into the water. He captioned the post, “I Broke You Off When Dem F*ck N****s Wouldn’t Give You A Dime !!! I Ain’t Owe You Sh*t N**** I Just Wanted To See You Shine !!! Yeen Never Gave Me Sh*t N**** I Had My Own Grind !!!!”

Then, in a tweet from earlier today, he tweeted a video of himself trying (and failing) to flush more $100s down a toilet.

Notably, this comes after the rapper tweeted that he would donate $1 million to charity if he received a pardon from Donald Trump in his final days in office. Sure enough, Black got the pardon he was looking for, but the tweet in which Kodak made his philanthropic promise was deleted. At the time, his lawyer said in a statement, “A statement promising something for something in exchange is not appropriate and although Kodak has always given to charity his whole career and will continue to do charity, not in exchange for anything. Some think this is a story. It isn’t.”

Vince Staples Reflects On His Humble Beginning On The Anniversary Of ‘Summertime ’06’

Summertime ’06 was a huge release for Vince Staples. Following a handful of mixtapes in the years prior, the rapper’s 2015 debut album was the first time a lot of fans were exposed to him. Additionally, the album remains Staples’ one of his biggest chart successes, at is has his highest peak on the Billboard Hot Rap Albums chart at No. 2. That album came out six years ago today, and Staples’ celebration on Twitter made him a trending topic.

This afternoon, he tweeted, “Summertime ’06 was 6 years ago. Thank you to everyone who listened. [heart emoji] N.I.P. TSkrap.” He then added a couple hours later, “Favorite song from Summertime ’06?” Sure enough, he got his answer, as “Norf Norf” started trending.

He went on to describe his humble housing arrangement while making the album: “When Summertime ’06 was being made we stayed off 7th & Temple four deep in a one bedroom apartment with one 380. Life change fast lol.”

Back when Staples first announced the album, he wrote of it on Instagram (as Stereogum notes), “Love tore us all apart. Love for self, love for separation, love for the little we all had, love for each other, where we came from… Summer of 2006, the beginning of the end of everything I though I knew. Youth was stolen from my city that Summer and Im left alone to tell the story. This might not make sense but that’s because none of it does, we’re stuck. Love tore us all apart.”

G-Eazy, Tiffany Haddish, G-Eazy, MGK, and Megan Fox were only a number of James’ friends that attended the party– which featured a number of rides and games, some with basketball themes.

Don Cheadle, James’ co-star in the Space Jam sequel, was also in attendance. The Six Flags bash is the latest in a string of promotional events for the rollout of the film, which also notably included the release of a movie-inspired LeBron basketball shoe

The event, complete with a red carpet and a photo-ops, was packed with paparazzi and celebrities’ entourages. Bill Cosby Is Officially Released From Prison

Today marked a big day in the trial of Bill Cosby. Over the past two years, Cosby has been behind bars after being convicted of sexual assault yet he’s continued to maintain his innocence. Hardly an apology was offered to the alleged victims and he has continued to spin the case as a larger conspiracy theory.

Bill Cosby’s conviction was officially overturned earlier today but it wasn’t due to his innocence but rather, an error on the prosector’s end. While the Internet has been reacting to the news for the past few hours, Cosby is officially a free man, per PageSix. The embattled comedian was released from SCI Phoenix where he’s been incarcerated for the past two years. Cosby arrived at his home in Elkins Park, PA following his release.

“I want to thank the attorneys who successfully argued his appeal and especially Mrs. Cosby who stood strong and was here for Mr. Cosby every step of the way and supported every idea and strategy from the attorneys and the team and she always knew that Mr. Cosby was innocent,” Cosby’s rep Andrew Wyatt said.

The state’s top court made the decision to free Cosby after it was revealed that the prosecutor that brought the charges against “America’s Dad” violated a deal made by the previous D.A. in 2005 to not charge him.

We’ll keep you posted on more updates regarding Cosby’s case.

Stalley Drops Sweet New Track “Oranges In June”

Massillon native Stalley is coming off his Cake EP that hit streaming services at the dawn of 2021, and now has even more heat to drop.

“Oranges In June” (the song) sounds exactly what they (the fruit) would taste like. The rapper spits about local women around his town, his style, smoking top-shelf Runtz, all the while keeping a lazily listenable flow. Does it get any more fit for the hottest season of the year than that?

Subtle keys loop throughout this buttery-smooth track, and they go hand-in-hand with whatever you’re doing this summer. Not to mention the fact that this guy can genuinely spit. Check out the latest track from Stalley below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Marathon, I be racing to this money in this Nike checks
The hustle, the payoff, I never cheat the grind
If you ain’t workin towards wealth, nigga, you wastin’ time
And I do it for family, never been the selfish kind.

JT Trashes Fan For Editing Her BET Awards Red Carpet Look

On Sunday, the 21st BET Awards took place in Los Angeles, and the event spawned some of the most talked-about moments of the week, from Megan Thee Stallion and Yung Miami getting caught kissing after the awards show to Cardi B revealing on live television that she and Offset are expecting their second child together.

However, some unruly fans have been bringing a negative twist to the BET Awards festivities this past weekend. Earlier this week, fans bullied Coi Leray about her skinny body frame, prompting a full-on response from the “No More Parties” rapper. Now, fans have turned their attention to City Girls rapper JT, as many social media users have been making fun of her distinct hairline in her stunning red carpet look.

Taking things even further, Twitter user @iam_azrya took the initiative of editing one of JT’s photos from Sunday evening, and in her edit, she drastically lightened JT’s skin tone, changed her hairstyle into a bun with baby hairs laid down, and made JT’s eyebrows thinner. The unprovoked photo edit soon found its way to JT’s timeline, and the City Girls artist quickly clapped back at the disrespectful fan.

Never one to hold her tongue on social media, JT trashed the fan, saying, “You actually made me look a mess I’m beautiful I don’t need to edit myself. Edit them rolls out your neck.”

Do you think that the fan’s edit looked better than JT’s original BET Awards red carpet look? Or was she out of line for editing her photos in the first place?

Phylicia Rashad Reacts To Bill Cosby Release

It came as a surprise to many today, when Bill Cosby’s 2018 sexual assault conviction was overturned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court due to an unfair trial. Though Cosby’s release is incredibly polarizing, longtime Cosby friend and co-star Phylicia Rashad voiced her support for the decision today on Instagram.

Rashad posted a picture of the 83-year-old actor with the caption “FINALLY!!!! A terrible wrong is being righted – a miscarriage of justice is corrected,” much to the dismay of fans.

Rashad and Cosby have worked closely on a number of shows. Rashad played Cosby’s wife, Claire Huxtable, on the hit sitcom The Cosby Show from 1984-1992. She later played his wife again from 1996-2004 in CBS’s Cosby. Rashad first voiced her support for Cosby last year to Bustle magazine: “I just don’t accept what somebody says because they say it, and they say it in a loud voice. The internet has given a lot of anonymous people a very loud voice. And this, too, has happened before.” She then went on to reference other times when notable celebrities, like Zora Neale Hurston, who was falsely accused of molestation.

Fans weren’t too happy with the Huxtable mom’s comments, with one user commenting: “How she know? Was she there? Ppl always think they know something.” Others drew connections to her role in The Cosby Show: “Stick beside your man Mrs Huxtable.”

Bill Cosby was convicted of aggravated indecent assault in 2018, though has allegations from over 50 women ranging from sexual misconduct to rape.

How Peewee Longway Became Atlanta’s Most Beloved Veteran

Peewee Longway has become a lynchpin of Atlanta rap just as much as he’s an arbiter of taste for the city’s ever-expanding trap scene. Where many of his peers boisterously claim to hold sway over the ATL, Longway has been the silent partner, unassumingly building his own catalogue and becoming one of the city’s most reliable rappers.

He’s the owner of a chameleonic approach to rhyming that neatly fits into the pocket of basically any ATL hitmaker’s production, and the fact that he’s never truly received the profitable embrace of the mainstream can be a source of both frustration and bewilderment for those who’ve followed his career.

Nonetheless, if you dig deeper, you’ll see that Peewee’s ubiquity within the city has ensured his professional life is booming, regardless. “It played a lot in my career by having a lot of swag and culture in Atlanta,” he informed AllHipHop in 2019. “It helped me to see what’s going on in the streets…. By staying in Atlanta, it made me different than everybody else.”

Although he and fellow Atlanta stalwart Gucci Mane are often seen as indivisible, it’s important to point out that they weren’t childhood friends or anything of that ilk. In fact, they were placed in each others’ orbit by Peewee’s uncle and Brick Squad alumni Coldblooded Da Don at a time when Peewee was yet to consider a career in the rap game. After the two got acquainted, Peewee became the last signee of 1017 Records’ original incarnation.

“We brothers man. We came from the streets together. When somebody lends you a helping hand — how you fuck with your folks, that’s why you do for your folks,” Peewee reflected. “To help somebody, I would do that.”

Soon after, Peewee was introduced to the world on 2013’s Gucci-assisted Money, Pounds & Ammunition. Although labeled as a collab tape, Guwop’s top billing was simply a means of summoning an audience and allowing Peewee to map out his unique characteristics as an MC over 19 hard-hitting tracks.

Just as it had begun in earnest, Peewee’s career was disrupted when Gucci headed to jail. Despite setting him on a course of independence after he and 1017 severed ties, Longway’s departure did little to derail his relationship with Guwop. Soon after, Peewee and Gucci formed Felix Brothers alongside Memphis’ Young Dolph, dropping a much loved, Tijuana cartel-inspired tape in 2014.

Operating in hip-hop’s uniquely common middle-ground between friends and colleagues, the pronounced trust that Guwop and Peewee established would enable the Zone 3 resident to introduce Gucci to a soon-to-be bonafide superstar. Thus, setting the tone for Longway to become one of the most attuned talent scouts that his city has ever seen.

“When Peewee got to the studio, Peewee brought Thug and two other guys,” Guwop informed XXL during a 2016 cover story.  “I had a bag with some money and got $25,000 out and I signed Thug right there. Never even heard a song from him… I value Peewee’s opinion so much.”

Intent on paying it forward after Gucci had initially gambled on him, it’s no exaggeration to say that the dominant trap landscape may look unrecognizably different without the unifying force of Peewee. Just as he’d played the middle man between Thugger and Gucci, turning his MPA studio into a social hub for Atlanta’s burgeoning stars would place three Lawrenceville MCs on the path to greatness, as well.

“Everyone would hang out [at Peewee’s studio.] Even Lil Baby would hang there before he became a rapper,” Offset reflected to I.D when asked about Migos’ career origins. “PeeWee has done a lot for Atlanta rap, he’s also the one who introduced us to [Quality Control’s] P and it’s with them that we signed a deal which allowed our career to take off.”

In addition to his architectural work that’s built Atlanta’s rap scene into the thriving metropolis that it is, Peewee’s has put together a prolific discography.

Released in 2014,his enigmatic Running Around The Lobby project had all the hallmarks of a breakout moment, as did tracks such as the Metro Boomin-helmed “Sneakin’ and Geekin” and 2018’s inner-city anthem “I Can’t Get Enough.”

As far as collaborators go, his list of rhyming partners sounds like a guided tour of southern hip-hop institutions. Aside from his evergreen partnership with Gucci, Offset, 2 Chainz, Richie Homie Quan and Rae Sremmurd have all traded bars with Peewee. Then, in 2019, he would find another thrilling marriage of styles when he teamed up with neighbouring Decatur’s Money Man for their acclaimed joint tape Long Money.

Alongside working with the A’s leading artists, Longway’s has also loaned his trademark wit to outsiders such as NBA Youngboy to Goldlink and Lil Baby protege 42 Dugg over the years. And, in what felt like a landmark moment at the time, appearing with the Migos on “Sloppy Toppy” from Travis Scott’s Days After Rodeo introduced the Peewee to an entirely different section of the hip-hop audience and seemed capable of furthering his profile.

LISTEN: Travis Scott’s “Sloppy Toppy” feat. Migos & Peewee Longway

However, a few years later, in 2017, Peewee admitted that his mainstream reach was capped because “it takes a bigger machine.” He went on to reveal that, while he had fielded some offers from major labels– aka the big machine– they weren’t cutting it. “We got opportunities. But it’s a perfect time for everything. It wasn’t right. I wanna learn first. It wasn’t really a money thing but it’s just like, ‘What you gon’ do with me? What you gon’ do right with this work? Cause I’ma give it my all.’ I’m gonna be a whole other person when I sign.”

Among the interest in Longway’s career, however, there was someone who Peewee clearly trusted to steer him right. ASAP Yams, spiritual leader of the infamous East Coast crew with a prominent Southern influence, actively tried to bring Longway into the fold.

“He flew us out to New York for an ASAP party. Those folks believed in Longway before Longway believed in himself,” PeeWee told Vlad TV. “Yam was talking about taking us straight to the label…to go overseas with the ASAP Mob… He was just connecting all the pieces to the puzzle.”

Yams tragically died before these plans could ever materialize and in Peewee’s own words, the loss “fucked him up.” With that door of opportunity now seemingly wedged shut, Peewee returned to the distribution channels that he knew best.

A veteran of the mixtape hustle, Peewee has pinpointed Blue M&M’s 2: King Sizeas his magnum opus and claimed that each track on the project is as “meaningful” as anything he’s ever done. In terms of other essentials, his Longway Sinatra tapes with Cassius Jay— which saw its second instalment arrive in January of this year— brim with an originality and conviction that proved he can still hang in today’s trap realm.

WATCH: Peewee Longway’s “Wet Wet” music video

As Atlanta’s rap evolves and new stars jostle for position, Peewee has come to form part of its backbone as both a respected elder statesman and high-calibre rhymer. And even if his mentor, Gucci Mane, has gone on record to declare that Peewee is the better MC, Longway is not one to hang his hat on such an endorsement or stake a claim to superiority.

“He believes in me more than I do, so I respect that,” he told SayCheeseTV. “My partners and shit [respect me]. I don’t compare, I just do me. [When Gucci said that], I took it and smiled. He’s felt like that from the jump.”

From appearances on Young Thugga Mane La Flarethrough to Gucci’s latest tape, Peewee has been rightfully enshrined as part of Atlanta hip-hop’s royal family, without the platinum plaques or status as a household name. And even if he goes his whole career with just a singular Billboard 200 appearance, this is bound to remain the case.
