G Herbo’s Son Yosohn Makes An Appearance On “Cold World”

It’s been a year of ups and downs for G Herbo. The rapper’s legal issues have continued to linger but there’s much to celebrate in his life. For one, he and his girlfriend Taina Williams welcomed their first child together this week. Plus, the rapper recently turned 25-years-old which served as the inspiration for his latest album. 25 showcases Herbo’s maturity and growth since the days of Lil Herb.

One of the many highlights of the projects features his firstborn son Yosohn who appears on “Cold World.” Chase Davis pulls together atmospheric sounds and Dipset-inspired vocal samples for this gutwrenching ballad that finds Herbo exploring his journey through the streets. “Strapped with 30 shot Glocks, we got like 20 more of these/ Now I’m millionaire status, watched some homies leave,” he raps as he reflects on disloyalty among his inner circle.

Yosohn doesn’t showcase whether rap skills are hereditary but Herbo carefully squeezes in father-son talks in between verses.

Quotable Lyrics
The police still too quick to kill us when we look suspicious
They tryna knock me off my square, but I bend and stood position
No coincidence I got hit from there cause I’m just a gifted n***a
Doing 150 in the Urus carefully tryna miss collision

Tay Money Brings Her Signature Energy To New Song “Walk”

Texas artist Tay Money has been making a name for herself over the past few years thanks to a plethora of high-energy singles that feature braggadocios bars and some banging beats. Coming from the South, Tay Money has always had a solid ear for production and she always makes the most of whatever instrumental she’s on. With her new single “Walk,” that characteristic certainly continues to ring true.

With this effort, Tay Money can be heard rapping about money, the men she curves on a daily basis, and just the overall persona she tries to exude. The production has thumping drums and some driving synths that help Tay Money convey her message. Overall, “Walk” is a straightforward banger for the summer, and you can check it out below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Girl I walk, how I walk
Step on necks, breakin’ hearts (Come here)
That ain’t my fault (Uh-uh)
Don’t call me baby, or no sweetheart (Uh) (Tay)

Sha’Carri Richardson Reacts To The Recent Outpouring Of Support

Over the last week, Sha’Carri Richardson has received a ton of support from athletes, fans, and celebrities around the world as she was banned from competing in the 100-meter dash at the Tokyo Olympics. After qualifying for the games just a few weeks ago, it was revealed that Richardson had tested positive for weed which is a banned substance in Olympic competitions. The ban seemed incredibly harsh, especially since weed is not a performance-enhancing drug. Not to mention, Richardson was using the drug as a coping mechanism for the loss of her mother, which was a truly traumatic experience.

Nonetheless, Richardson has been disqualified from the competition everyone knew she could win, and it’s left many fans upset about what could have been. Regardless, Richardson is keeping a positive mindset through all of this, and last night, she took to Twitter to thank everyone for their love and support during this difficult time.

“The support my community I thank y’all, the negative forget y’all and enjoy the games because we all know it won’t be the same,” she wrote. “I’m sorry, I can’t be y’all Olympic Champ this year but I promise I’ll be your World Champ next year.”

It remains to be seen whether or not the Olympic Committee will overturn their decision, although considering their stubbornness over the years, it’s not looking likely. However, we hope Richardson is able to get back on the track soon.

Who Is Grip? Everything To Know About Eminem’s New Shady Records Signee

It was announced two days ago that Atlanta native Grip would join the lyrical entourage under Eminem at Shady Records, prompting one universal reaction from hip-hop fans: Who is Grip? Well, here’s all we know about the 32-year-old father-turned-Shady trainee.

The Basics

Grip is now the newest rapper to join the rising ranks of ATL stars– though comparisons with other hometown acts like Young Thug and Migos can only go as far as their area code. Replace eccentric vocal inflections and triplet flows with fast-paced rapping more indicative of JID and Kendrick Lamar, and you’ll find Grip. Grip has long been an underground hip hop figure, receiving only sporadic attention from media outlets, but what Grip lacks in mainstream publicity he makes up for in work ethic. Perhaps you’ve heard his music before without realizing it, whether it was his Madden ‘20 track “100YD Dash” or “911 (Clap for Em)” off of HBO’s Euphoria soundtrack. Notable career highlights so far include his 2019 album Snub Nose (more on that below), a concept album inspired by Nas’ “I Gave You Power”, which drew attention from industry figures like Hot 97’s Ebro. His streaming-service available music, which encompasses two albums and over a dozen singles, has impressed audiences with aggressive cadences and poetic wordplay– all set largely to themes of life in poverty and crime. His most successful track to date, 2021’s “Chicken N Dumplins”, boasts over a million Spotify streams.

Early Life

Grip grew up in Decatur, Georgia. The rapper says that he came to age prematurely, at 13-years old, when he started falling into street life. “At 12 or 13 I jumped off [the porch]… I was doing dumb shit, you know what I’m saying, being reckless and shit,” Grip said in a 2020 interview with Dirty Glove Bastard. In another interview with Complex in 2018, Grip spoke on his often tumultuous childhood: “As a kid, we ain’t really have too much. I grew up in my grandma’s house, and it wasn’t in the nicest area… I was always smart, but we were in the hood, so we’d get into shit.”

He then moved to the Stone Island area of Decatur, though money problems followed his family to what he called the “black suburbs.” “We wouldn’t have lights sometimes. Nobody else’s shit was like that, but our shit was. Sometimes we wouldn’t have lights, water, whatever.” Grip’s mom enrolled him in nearby Dekalb Tech after college, but he was kicked out during his first semester for selling drugs. Grip admits that this compelled him to take music more seriously.

Career

Though Grip had been working on his pen game since middle school, he became serious about music after his exit from college. The rapper cites inspiration from T.I., Andre 3000, Jay Z, Nas, Mobb Deep, as well as Nirvana, whom he told Complex he can “relate to.” In conjunction with a daily 9-5 job, Grip worked on a number of projects that spent years on the drawing board: “I was getting better and better because it was me rapping by myself. I knew what I wanted to rap and I knew which beats I liked… Eventually I was like, all right, bet, I’m ready to have them released,” Grip told Ozy in 2019. These were released as The Leftover Tapes in 2015.

However, Grip’s breakout, independent project, and the first to make it onto streaming platforms, was his 2018 concept album Porch. Porch found the rapper tackling police brutality and struggles in the black community from three perspectives: a kid who has yet to witness the struggle or jump off the “porch”, one who had jumped off and was in the midst of the community’s problems, and an older man reflecting on a life off of the “porch”- “A porch is a staple, especially in the South, for people in the hood, and for people, period. Everyone sits out on the porch,” the rapper told Complex.

At a listening party for Porch, hip-hop curator and former radio host Premium Pete couldn’t contain his praise for Grip’s captivating sound: “Holy shit, this kid can rap his ass off. I like the way he puts his wordplay together and I’m being honest, his flow is something people haven’t heard in a while. He’s a rising star out of Atlanta.”

More praise came when Grip dropped his sophomore album Snub Nose in 2019. Snub Nose, like its predecessor, is a concept album that features Grip seamlessly moving through different perspectives– though this time using a revolver to tie everything in together. In the same Dirty Glove Bastard interview, he says Snub Nose is an attempt to “give people a glimpse of what it’s like where I’m from and how this shit goes and how guns and gun violence affect us.” The album, which took Grip only a year to make, details the cycle of gun violence by alluding to the revolving mechanism in a snub nose handgun: “The cylinder has these chambers in it that revolve, like cycles, so what I wanted to do was speak on cycles that go on in my community all while correlating it directly to the gun.”

Snub Nose cemented Grip as one of the underground’s most underrated and unknown storytellers. Ebro Darden, host of Hot 97, posted the album to his Instagram account after it dropped with the caption “Best album you never heard of right here… I don’t even know who this is.”

Success after Snub Nose and Shady Records Deal

Though both albums were released independently and made in the rapper’s home studio while still maintaining his day job, Snub Nose proved a defining moment in his career. Following the album, Grip went on tour in Europe with fellow Georgia native JID, in which Grip admits he had the time of his life. “As long as your shit is good, it’s almost like you’re the main act. They’re bouncing, they’re doing everything you tell them to do. They’re moshing. In America, I go to plenty of concerts– until the main act gets on there, [people] ain’t moving.” Grip was supposed to tour with Brent Faiyaz a few months later in March of 2020, but the tour was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Post-Snub Nose and touring, Grip returned back to the studio and released a string of singles through 2020 and 2021, some being his most successful yet. 2021’s “Chicken N Dumplings” and last year’s “No Más!”, from his 2020 Halo EP, both boast over 1 million Spotify streams.

On July 1st, 2021, it was announced the Grip would be joining the likes of Conway the Machine, Boogie, and Bad Meets Evil under the patronage of Eminem’s Shady Records label. Paul Rosenberg, president of the label, announced that: “Grip is the type of artist that brings you into his world and expresses himself through a complete composed body of work. If true album artists in this era are a rare breed- then Grip is a unicorn! We’re excited for him to join the Shady Records family.”

On the deal, Grip himself shared his enthusiasm: “It was one of those full circle moments because I grew up on Eminem so to have him reach out and let me know how dope my shit is was so cool. Excited to partner with Shady/Interscope and get the music out on a larger platform.” This is a big move for the Atlanta rapper, who can now create and release under the direction of one of his influences and an industry great. He released the track “Gutter”, featuring Wara, on July 2nd as his first release under Shady Records. He is reportedly working on his third album.

Let us know what you think of Grip joining the Shady roster.

Updates on the follow-up to Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon have been shared by Steven Victor and 808Melo over the months. However, a release date for the project was finally set for July 16th. Last night, the pre-order went live on Apple Music and iTunes which revealed that the project will include 17 songs in total and is a self-titled project. On top of that, the outro for the project was also made available for fans to check out. The 30-second clip consists of Pop Smoke offering some uplifting words. “That’s why we try to tell the young n***as like, stay focused, you understand? You know what I’m saying, keep you mind straight on the prize. Don’t let nothin’ get in between,” he says in the clip.

The “Outro” for the project arrived on the one-year anniversary of the release of Shoot For The Stars, Aim For The Moon. Hopefully, an actual single from the project arrives sometime soon. Check it out below.

Soulja Boy Says He Was The First Rapper With An iPhone

Million Dollaz Worth Of Game recently shared a clip from their upcoming podcast episode with Soulja Boy, and it already looks like it’s going to be one for the books. In the teaser, Soulja Boy reveals that he has another huge “first” on his rap sheet.

“I was the first rapper with the iPhone,” Soulja Boy calmly states as the hosts of the podcasts erupt into laughter in disbelief. “It was ‘Crank Dat’ video shoot 2007. Steve Jobs and the Apple team came. I was in the swimming pool, doing the instructional dance. Showing the people how to do the dance. We was on the set of the ‘Crank Dat’ video. They came, they brought me the iPhone.

“Steve Jobs himself came?” one of the podcast hosts asked, to which Big Draco replied, “Yes, Steve Jobs. And Apple, the whole team. They said this the first iPhone.”

Initially, fans thought that Soulja Boy’s claims were preposterous, but soon after his teased appearance on Million Dollaz Worth Of Game, Twitter users started pulling up receipts and proving that Soulja Boy probably isn’t lying. While no one has yet been able to give video proof that Steve Jobs himself linked up with Soulja to give him the iPhone, multiple fans have been able to unearth archival footage of the rapper showing off the first-generation iPhone.

Alex Jones Goes On Scathing Joe Budden Rant, Calls Him A Racist

Joe Budden has gotten into some very random feuds over the course of his career, and now that he is in the podcast world, he has been able to broaden the range of people he argues with. Perhaps the best example of this came recently as he called out fellow podcaster Andrew Schulz for platforming the likes of Alex Jones. Jones is a political commentator who has been known to tout fringe conspiracies all while delivering some truly racist rhetoric. As a result, Budden was upset with Schulz and demanded that he do better with his platform.

Well, as it turns out, Jones caught a whiff of this rant and decided to unleash on the former rapper during his show. In the YouTube clip below, Jones refers to Budden as “Booden” and consistently hits him with attacks, all while telling him to go “burn in hell.”

“I will not sit there and have racist black people who are feeding at the corporate new world order, eugenics, genocide, death cult tit, lecture me about how I’m bad because I’m white,” Jones said. “Just because you are this black person paid by the corporate media to spew racism to divide this country in the world. I didn’t do anything to you. I don’t owe you anything. And you are despicable lying about me.”

Jones didn’t like the fact that Budden called him that “KKK guy” which seems to be the jumping-off point of Jones’ frustrations. Over the years, Jones has been criticized by many throughout the media, and every single time, he offers the kind of rant that could only be described as something you would see on Adult Swim at 2 o’clock in the morning.

As for Budden, it will be interesting to see what he has to say about all of this.

Tyler, The Creator Shows Off His Immense Talent During Studio Session

Tyler, the Creator has been on a monumental roll with his last three albums. They have all been contenders for the best album of the year, and his latest effort Call Me If You Get Lost has been a huge hit amongst fans. The project contains some of Tyler’s best production yet and it also features some impeccable storytelling that sees Tyler at his best lyrically. What makes the project special is that Tyler made most of the arrangements himself, and it just goes to show how talented he really is.

Recently, Tyler took to his Instagram page where he posted a video of himself constructing the bridge to “SWEET / I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE.” In the clip, Tyler is creating some incredible melodies and harmonies on his keyboard, all while trying to see how it fits in with the rest of the instrumentation. Overall, it’s the perfect display of his abilities as a musician.

It’s always fun to see the behind-the-scenes nuts and bolts of how an album is made, especially when it’s one artist who is doing most of the heavy lifting. Over the years, Tyler has proven to be a master at his craft and this latest clip is yet another example of what he can, almost off of a whim.

Needless to say, Call Me If You Get Lost is still in heavy rotation, and we can’t wait to see how he continues to evolve in the future.

Trae Young Sends A Message To The NBA After Game 6 Loss

Trae Young was impressive with the Atlanta Hawks in his very first postseason run with the team. Despite being underdogs in every single series, the Hawks were able to get to the Eastern Conference Finals where they gave the Milwaukee Bucks a very hard time. In the end, however, the Bucks were simply too strong, even without Giannis Antetokounmpo in the lineup. In Game 6 on Saturday, the Hawks were eliminated from the playoffs, and now, the Bucks are headed to the NBA Finals.

After the game, Young was disappointed although he was still quite optimistic about the future. He took to Twitter and wrote “we’ll be back,” and then spoke to reporters about just how much belief he has in this young Hawks core.

“I definitely believe we’ll be back, and I meant that with my whole heart,” he said. Young has every reason to believe this when you consider how the Hawks have been steadily improving every season since he got to Atlanta. While they still have a lot to do before they become contenders, Atlanta fans have every reason to be excited for years to come.

As for the NBA Finals, those will officially begin on Tuesday, July 6th as the Bucks take on the Phoenix Suns.
