JID Gives An Update On His Next Album With Studio Shots Of His Collaborators

If you were ever wondering how to make an album, Atlanta rising star JID recently shared his version of an instruction manual, posting a photo dump of behind-the-scenes glimpses of the recording sessions for his upcoming album, The Forever Story. “This is how u make an album,” he wrote in the slideshow’s caption. The slideshow itself captures plenty of in-studio shots and shenanigans with collaborators like fellow Spillage Village member 6lack, Compton rapper Buddy, Florida rebel Denzel Curry, DMV area genre-bender Rico Nasty, and St. Louis space poet Smino.

Meanwhile, in his efforts to tide fans over until the new album is completed, JID has been releasing freestyles like “Cludder Freestyle” and “JIDtranada Freestyle“; remixes like the Denzel Curry collaboration “Bruuuh,” the updated Spillage Village track “Baptized” with Deante’ Hitchcock, IDK, and Flatbush Zombies, and the explosive Conway The Machine track “Scatter Brain” with Ludacris; and his own standalone single, “Skegee,” which sheds light on a dark corner of American history.

The Forever Story, whose title references JID’s debut album The Never Story, will be the dynamic rapper’s first full-length solo release since 2018’s DiCaprio 2. In the meantime, however, he could be found giving standout performances on group efforts like 2019’s Dreamville compilation Revenge Of The Dreamers III and 2020’s Spillage Village excursion, Spilligion.

Snoop Dogg Joins The Cast Of Jamie Foxx’s Netflix Vampire Hunter Movie

There are so many elements about the headline above that make me so happy, but the details behind it (courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter) make me even happier. There is the fact that Netflix has a vampire hunter action thriller coming out called Day Shift, where the main character’s cover is that of a pool cleaner. There is the fact that the pool cleaner is played by Jamie Foxx in full “girl dad” mode. I was already all the way in, but then they went ahead and added Snoop Dogg to it. Give it to me now. Right now.

The film’s the directorial debut for J.J. Perry, a seasoned second-unit director on films like John Wick (yes), The Fate Of The Furious (yes), and Bloodshot (oh no), so we can be reasonably well-assured that the action scenes will be on-point — and really, isn’t that all you want from a Jamie Foxx vampire hunter/pool cleaner flick? The script, written by Tyler Tice, was discovered at a screenplay competition, so it can’t be all bad, and the cast, which includes Dave Franco, Eric Lange, Karla Souza, Meagan Good, and Zion Broadnax, among others, seems strong enough to support the admittedly kinda silly concept.

There are a lot of ways this could go wrong, but I’m choosing to remain positive because if nothing else, there is the possibility of watching Snoop Dogg react to a vampire attack to look forward to, and “Snoop Dogg reacting to things” is a genre with a wealth of fun moments — especially if the things turn out to be supernatural and unusual. Also, Jamie Foxx’s last Netflix action flick Project Power (in which he was again in full “girl dad” mode) was really enjoyable, as is his current ’90s-style sitcom on the platform, Dad Stop Embarrassing Me (do you see the theme developing?).

There’s nothing on when Day Shift will hit streaming, but turnaround on Netflix films is usually pretty quick so expect to see this one out at a theme appropriate time — say, Halloween.

Toosii Shares New Single “what it cost”

There’s something special about Syracuse-born, Raleigh-raised recording artist Toosii– but even he can’t put his finger on what exactly that is. At the beginning of his new music video for “what it cost,” the latest single from his upcoming album Thank You For Believing, Toosii recalls how he felt upon hearing that his grandfather died. He says that his entire life has been about his granddad, with the 21-year-old deciding never to smoke or drink in his life, placing a focus on his health so he can always be there for his family.

The video tells a lot about Toosii’s story, peeling back layers of his trauma and presenting him as a young man that has been through a hell of a lot. On his powerful new single “what it cost,” Toosii touches on his roots, his current reality, and more, detailing his rise from a lost kid to a national sensation.

The single comes as Toosii nears one billion total streams for his musical catalog, which is a feat that most 21-year-olds can’t claim for themselves.

Listen to Toosii’s new single below and stay tuned for his new album Thank You For Believing on May 7.

Quotable Lyrics:

I came from rags to riches, I ain’t tryna go back to the rags
My new lil’ b*tch been tripping, I ain’t really tryna be no dad
I thought you seen it in me, I’m a star
Won’t switch the wrap, a n***a switched the car
I left the Earth and ended up on Mars, that mean I’m sitting next to the stars
I thought you seen it on me, I got scars

Chicago Police Shoot & Kill 13-Year-Old Boy With His Hands Up In Bodycam Footage

Authorities have now released body camera footage of the deadly Chicago shooting of 13-year-old Adam Toledo that occurred during the early morning hours of March 29th. The disturbing video shows 34-year-old Chicago police officer Eric Stillman chasing Adam down a dark alley and firing a single shot into his chest after telling Adam to show him his hands.

According to police, the body camera video shows a gun in Toledo’s right hand before the shot is fired. The video, however, appears to show Adam empty-handed, surrendering. The police claim that, between the time that the gun is visible in Toledo’s hand, to the time the officer fired his shot, was only eight tenths of a second. In this time, the

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot called the video “difficult to watch.” Lightfoot held a press conference on Thursday, stating, “I’ve seen no evidence whatsoever that Adam Toledo shot at the police.” The Chicago Police Department refused to answer any questions regarding the shooting.

According to Toledo’s family attorney Adeena Weiss-Ortiz, Adam did not have a gun at the time he was shot. “In that slo-mo version (of one of the videos), whatever he had in his, in his hand, whether it was a gun or something else, there was something in his hand, he approaches the fence, he lets it go, he turns around, and he’s shot. It could be a gun,” Weiss-Ortiz continues. “I’m not going to deny that, that it could be a gun, but I can’t tell you with 100% certainty, until I have that video forensically analyzed and enhanced. But it is not relevant, because he tossed the gun. If he had a gun, he tossed it.”

Union lawyer Timothy Grace says that the officer had no other option. “The juvenile had a handgun in his right hand, given verbal direction, told to drop and stop and to adhere to the police officer’s valid, lawful orders and the juvenile begins to turn. At that point (the officer) has no cover, no concealment, he’s left with no other option.”

As for why the police were chasing after this 13-year old, it was reportedly in connection to gunfire shots heard in the area. When the police arrived, they also found 21-year-old Ruben Roman, who was later arrested in connection with the crime.

According to prosecutors, Toledo’s right hand tested positive for gunshot residue, and a Ruger 9MM pistol was recovered near the scene. Adeena Weiss-Ortiz says that the family is currently looking into next steps in the investigation and they have not ruled out legal action against Stillman or the city of Chicago.

Busta Rhymes Revisits A Classic With “The Coming 25th Anniversary Deluxe”

Sometimes, it behooves a fan to take things back to the beginning. Though it can sometimes be jarring to dive decades into the past, especially given how much music can change over the years, it’s always interesting to see where the game’s legendary artists began their triumphant runs. In the case of Busta Rymes, the journey kicked off twenty-five years ago with The Coming, his first solo album following a scene-stealing, star-making performance on Tribe Called Quest’s Scenario.

Today, Busta came through to deliver a 25th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition of his classic debut, expanding the original thirteen-track endeavor into a thirty-six-track leviathan. Granted, many of the new additions arrive in the form of instrumentals and acapellas, as well as a few notable remixes to round things out. One such remix of “Woo Hah! Got You All In Check” features Ol’ Dirty Bastard, a fan-favorite version that officially makes its streaming debut.

While it’s not exactly a treasure trove of never-before-heard Busta Rhymes material, this revised version of The Coming should please longtime fans of the legendary rapper. Especially those who dabble in the art of emceeing themselves, as the instrumentals feature many classic cuts laced by DJ Scratch and more. Check it out for yourself, if only to see how Busta Rhymes first emerged onto the scene and forged a career that’s still going to this day.

Fivio Foreign Returns With His First Video Of The Year “Self Made”

Fivio Foreign has no time for anybody that’s not out-performing him. And he knows that very few people are pulling his kind of numbers, so he’s not stooping to the level of his opps. On his first video release of the year for the AXL Beats-produced new single “Self Made,” the Brooklyn drill staple sends a warning to anybody that’s been dissing him– he doesn’t care about you or your two measly YouTube views. In his eyes, he’s above you.

Without a lack of confidence, the 31-year-old rapper gets brutally honest on his new song, rhyming about his own personal growth while tearing down the people who choose to challenge him. In the video, Fivi steps to the studio, shows behind-the-scenes footage from a photoshoot, and navigates the streets in his G-Wagon.

Watch the video below and stay tuned for more new music on the way from Fivio Foreign. He says he’s coming with the heat, dropping a new video every week. What do you think of this one?

Quotable Lyrics:

P***y, we don’t give a f*ck ’bout you and your two views
Uh, you gotta do more
Huh, and gang don’t need a deal
They gettin’ rich off of TuneCore
I’m ’bout to buy me a new Porsche
I’m with a b*tch gettin’ blewed off
I taste good, I’m too sauced

Quando Rondo Shares Cover Art & Release Date For “Still Taking Risks”

As a result of his close proximity to the tragic situation that resulted in King Von’s death, Quando Rondo is one of the most polarizing rising rappers in the music industry at the moment. Several fans of King Von and Chicago rap, in general, have pegged Quando Rondo to be the bad guy in Von’s death, but The Breakfast Club host Angela Yee’s recent interview with NBA YoungBoy’s signee suggests that there’s much more to the story than Hip-Hop fans originally thought.

Following admissions that he didn’t snatch King Von’s chain and deading rumors that he was recently shot, Quando Rondo has decided to capitalize off the fervor surrounding his name by formally announcing his next project. Today, in a series of Instagram posts, the Savannah, Georgia artist revealed the album artwork for his forthcoming mixtape, “Still Taking Risks.”
