Azealia Banks Says DaBaby Should Be “Canceled” For “Punching A Female Fan”

As she prepares to perform for her sold-out show at Webster Hall in just a few weeks, Azealia Banks had a few things to get off of her chest. The multi-dimensional artist has often shaken things up with her controversial commentary on all things pop culture and politics, and earlier today (August 3), she added her two cents to the continued conversation regarding DaBaby.

Since his Rolling Loud Miami moment and the apologies that followed, DaBaby has been booted from at least a half-dozen festivals. He was even slated to headline a radio station’s summer concert, but they claimed they decided to cancel it altogether and noted that the rapper’s scandal was partially to blame.

Azealia Banks is all for DaBaby facing the consequences of his actions, but she doesn’t believe his comments at Rolling Loud should be the reason he’s being “canceled.” She took to her Instagram Story to drop off a note about an assault that occurred in March 2020.

“Y’all should have BEEN canceled dababy when he was caught on camera punching a female fan in the face,” she wrote. “I’m not believing any of this performative canceling ppl are doing now when everyone was so quick to forget that happened. Apology or not, keep him canceled.”

The incident in question occurred in Tampa when DaBaby was making his way on stage and a light from a fan’s phone blinded the rapper as he walked by. DaBaby retaliated by hitting the woman in the face so hard that she fell to the ground and bystanders immediately went to her aid as the rapper moved on. He later issued an apology and stated that he couldn’t see her because of the light and thought that she was a man.

Check out Azealia Banks’s post and watch a news report about the 2020 incident below.

Skepta Believes He Would Produce “Rihanna’s Hardest Album” If Given Opportunity

Despite the growing number of young people entering the industry thinking that they can quickly become the next platinum-selling artist, many rappers will let it be known that to have a successful career is a taxing effort. There is an illusion that becoming a chart-topping artist is easier than it seems, especially with artists gaining fame from viral attention. Yet, Skepta spoke with BBC Radio 1Xtra and shared that in his opinion, rapping is a “waste of talent” and artists should strive for more.

Skepta said that when he speaks about wanting to partner with companies or have his own successful brands outside of rapping, he’s hit with comparisons to Jay-Z. He called it “annoying” that we only have Jay-Z as a model for rappers evolving out of the studio and into the boardroom in such a caliber.

“If they want to branch out and do different things and become a business, everyone says the Jay-Z ting,” he said. “It was just a thought in my head where I was like, ‘I just wanna do more than just being like, a rapper,’ ’cause that’s a waste of talent. I feel like right now I want to become more behind the production. I want to produce albums for people. I’d love to produce Rihanna’s album, that would be a dream. I’d probably make Rihanna’s hardest album.

After boasting about how he would create music for Rihanna that would go above and beyond, he reiterated that rapping shouldn’t be the end goal. “I feel like now I just want to branch out. I can’t be a rapper. It’s a waste of talent.”

“I feel like rapping for artists is some sort of therapy,” Skepta continued. “They go somewhere and they tell someone to record them and they say their pain in the song… But after a while, it’s like I’ve said everything. From being a confused African child to being a chief in my dad’s village. I’ve rapped myself to my nirvana, you know what I’m saying? I’ve rapped myself into it, somehow. Now, I wanna help other people see theirs.”

Tyler, The Creator Says He Has A Crush On Jadakiss After The Lox & Dipset “Verzuz”

New York is known for being the epicenter of Hip Hop as that is where the genre was birthed, so when it was announced that The LOX and Dipset were going toe-to-toe on Verzuz, the culture was ready for an epic showdown. Both collectives delivered memorable performances and fans stormed social media by the thousands to share their takes on the match-up, including Tyler, The Creator who made his presence felt in the comments.

While all members of Dipset and The LOX had their moments in the spotlight, it was indisputable that Jadakiss was the rapper who stood out during the Verzuz. It was obvious that he came prepared for battle and from the opening until close, Hip Hop fans continued to praise him on social media.

Tyler, The Creator did a bit of praising of his own, and it seems that he was taken with Jadakiss’s dynamics onstage. “Pause i think i gotta crush on jadakiss,” Tyler commented. “That n*gga confidence and voice control is crazy and he aged so well.” Later he added, “JADAKISS SKIN IS SO NICE.”

Screenshots were inevitably taken and shared, and soon, Tyler found himself trending online. Not everyone was amused by his remarks and questioned what would happen if Jadakiss responded. Check out his comments, as well as a few reactions, below.
