Kendrick Lamar Fans React To His Stunning TDE News

The main attraction at Top Dawg Entertainment, Kendrick Lamar, has officially announced that he’s departing from the label. He penned an open letter to his millions of fans across the world, issuing an update on the status of his next studio album, as well as his future with TDE.

“As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years,” he wrote in the letter, which was posted to a new website, called oklama.com. “The Struggles. The Success. And most importantly, the Brotherhood. May the Most High continue to use Top Dawg as a vessel for candid creators. As I continue to pursue my life’s calling. There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown. Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. I’ve prayed for you all. See you soon enough.”

With this being the first time we’ve heard from Kendrick Lamar in months, fans are dissecting every little bit of his message. Of course, it’s an extremely bittersweet moment to hear that Kendrick will be parting ways from the label, but it also leaves room for Top Dawg to help grow the careers of many other rising artists, as well as rappers that are already signed to the team.

The writing has been on the wall for over a year. Ever since Kendrick established pgLang with Dave Free, Baby Keem, and others, it became clear that the rapper might be transitioning over to his own imprint. Perhaps, pgLang will be better detailed in the coming months, after we receive the final TDE offering from Kendrick.

Kendrick Lamar Says He’s Working On His ‘Final TDE Album’

For the majority of his career, Kendrick Lamar has released his music with Top Dawg Entertainment and is now the label’s defining artist. It looks like that era is coming to an end, though, as Lamar has indicated that his next album will be his last one with TDE.

This afternoon, the rapper shared a link to a website, oklama.com, which features a post dated August 20. In it, he summarizes how he’s been lately and reflects on his time with TDE, saying that he’s in the process of producing his “final TDE album.” He also hinted at when new music might come, as he ended his message, “See you soon enough.” The post reads:

“I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence.

I go months without a phone.

Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family.

While the world around me evolves, I reflect on what matters the most. The life in which my words will land next.

As I produce my final TDE album, I feel joy to have been a part of such a cultural imprint after 17 years. The Struggles.

See you soon enough.

-oklama.”

The post also features a grainy, blurry photo of Lamar seemingly in a studio. The image file’s EXIF data indicates it was last modified on July 15, suggesting the photo was taken, or at least last edited, on that date.

Common And Black Thought Debut ‘When We Move’ With A Vibrant ‘The Tonight Show’ Performance

In 2020, Common released his first-ever EP, A Beautiful Revolution, Pt. 1, a jazzy return to his hip-hop roots featuring appearances from Black Thought, Chuck D, Lenny Kravitz, PJ, and Stevie Wonder. Led by the Black Thought-featuring single “Say Peace,” the project found Common once again dwelling on weighty themes and socially conscious messages over Afrocentric production styles. Today, Common returned to the well with Black Thought to release “When We Move,” the first single from the second installment of his A Beautiful Revolution series, which is set to drop on September 10 via Loma Vista.

Also last night, Common dropped by The Tonight Show to debut the track live just as he’d done with “Say Peace,” giving an energetic performance alongside The Roots and longtime friend and collaborator Black Thought and Nigerian Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti, the youngest son of Fela Kuti. As usual, the two MCs brought complex, thoughtful rhymes to the bouncy production while the band channeled the energy of the Afrobeat legend.

A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2 will continue in the same vein of collaboration for the veteran rapper with features from Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard, PJ, who will once again be all over the tracklist, and Marcus King, among others. He said in a statement:

A Beautiful Revolution Pt. 2 was created with hope and inspiration in mind. The spirit of the album was meant to emulate what a greater day would sound and feel like. We were in the midst of some tough political and socially challenging times. There was still hurt, anger and pain lingering, so I was thinking, ‘What is the next step in this revolution?’

I wanted to write about that and create music that embodied that. How could this music be an example of the beautiful aspects of revolution that include joy, self-love, compassion, dreams, peace and good times? As a piece of art, I believe we took it to different places musically only to come back to the original intention. To bring joy to people’s hearts, fun to their lives and smiles to their souls.”

Travis Scott Is Reportedly Expecting His Second Child With Kylie Jenner

Talk about a productive year; in 2021, Travis Scott not only launched his successful seltzer brand Cacti, entered the world of cannabis, and revived his exceedingly popular Astroworld Festival, selling out tickets in just an hour, but now, he’s also got another big announcement. No, it’s not a Utopia release date, although we’re sure that’s coming soon as well. It’s another baby with Kylie Jenner, with whom he also recently reunited in an “open” relationship.

TMZ reports that the couple is expecting their second child, according to a source with “direct knowledge.” While the due date is as-yet-unknown, TMZ notes that hints have popped up throughout the summer, such as Kylie avoiding certain foods while wearing baggier-than-usual clothing and Caitlyn Jenner revealing that one of her kids was expecting. The news makes the couple’s first child, three-year-old Stormi, a big sister in waiting, and Travis one of multiple hip-hop artists currently awaiting a second child, including Cardi B, who announced her pregnancy during the 2021 BET Awards.

Travis’s successful 2021 built on the momentum of an equally successful 2020 in which he partnered with McDonald’s and Epic Games for several wildly popular projects. In addition to the above endeavors, Travis is also reportedly producing a film companion to his upcoming album.

Demi Lovato Says They May Identify As Trans In The Future

Demi Lovato says that breaking off their engagement to Max Ehrich allowed them to find their true self. In a new interview with The 19th, Lovato, who currently identifies as non-binary, admitted that they might be trans.

“There might be a time where I identify as trans. I don’t know what this looks like for me. There might be a time where I identify as non-binary and gender-nonconforming my entire life,” Lovato explained in the interview.

They continued: “Or maybe there’s a period of time when I get older that I identify as a woman, I don’t know what that looks like, but for me, in this moment right now, this is how I identify.”

Lovato explained that ending things with Ehrich allowed them to stand on their “own two feet without needing someone else to validate” them or to make them “feel accepted.”

“And when I said goodbye to that relationship, I also said goodbye to everything that was holding me back from being my most authentic self,” Lovato added.

Lovato says that being in a straight relationship was good, but led to them suppressing non-heteronormative aspects of themself.

“I met someone and I got into this straight relationship, and that was great,” they explained, “but that led me to ignoring all the parts of myself that I didn’t think were digestible for my partner at the time, who ended up becoming my fiancé.”

Lovato and Ehrich were engaged for a period of several months in the summer and fall of 2020.

Kylie and Scott’s 3-year-old daughter, Stormi, was born on February 1, 2018. In the time since, both have engaged in an on-and-off relationship while raising their first child.

Per Kendrick:

“I spend most of my days with fleeting thoughts. Writing. Listening. And collecting old Beach cruisers. The morning rides keep me on a hill of silence.

I go months without a phone.

Love, loss, and grief have disturbed my comfort zone, but the glimmers of God speak through my music and family.

There’s beauty in completion. And always faith in the unknown.

Thank you for keeping me in your thoughts. I’ve prayed for you all.

See you soon enough.”

Based on the message, it would appear as though an album is, indeed, on the way, although there is no timeline as to when it will be released. Interestingly enough, Punch from TDE has already reacted to the news, telling a fan “it’s funny you should ask,” after said fan wanted to know when Kendrick’s new album would be dropping.

This news is a lot to process for many Kendrick fans, and it should be interesting to see what the artist does over the coming weeks. Kendrick is good at keeping things under wraps, so stay tuned to HNHH for all of the latest updates on his upcoming new project.
