Black Thought And Danger Mouse Announce Their Joint Album, ‘Cheat Codes’

Black Thought, frontperson of The Roots, has teamed up with producer Danger Mouse for a full-length collaborative album called Cheat Codes, which is set for release this summer. The album has been anticipated for years and was once originally rumored to be titled Dangerous Thoughts.

Ahead of Cheat Codes, Black Thought and Danger Mouse have released the lead track, “No Gold Teeth.” The song features Black Thought rapping in his signature chorus-less flow over Danger Mouse’s pulsating bass lines and crisp drums and cymbal patterns. In the song’s video, Black Thought is seen rapping, with a square screen over his face, alternating images of dogs, flowers and other human figures.

In addition to Black Thought and Danger Mouse, Cheat Codes boasts an impressive set of collaborators, including Raekwon, Joey Badass, Run The Jewels, and a contribution from the late MF Doom.

Vince Staples Postpones His Limbo Beach Carnival Due To Overwhelming Demand

Earlier this week, Vince Staples announced the Limbo Beach Carnival in Long Beach to celebrate the release of his Z2 comic book, also called Limbo Beach. However, today, just one day from the event’s scheduled date, Vince informed fans via social media that the carnival and book signing has been postponed. According to the hometown hero, the response to his initial announcement was so overwhelming that the city asked him to find a different venue.

For what it’s worth… yeah, I can see that. El Dorado Park is absolutely gorgeous but crowd control could have been an utter nightmare. No one wants another artist-backed event to end in tragedy. Vince advised that, while he and his team work to make a “bigger and better” event to accommodate a larger space, anyone who purchased a book through the event’s Eventbrite page will be refunded immediately. Good thing I pre-ordered mine almost a year ago.

Limbo Beach is written by Vince along with industry vets Bryan Edward Hill (who’s worked on DC’s Batman & The Outsiders and Titans and editor Chris Robinson (Marvel’s Children Of The Atom). It’s illustrated by Buster Moody, who’s best known for Godzilla In Hell (come on, that just sounds rad) and IDW’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the one based on the most recent Nickelodeon series). Vince is also fresh off the release of his new album, Ramona Park Broke My Heart.

Gunna Surrenders And Is Booked In The Racketeering Case Against YSL Records

Gunna has surrendered and was booked into the Fulton County Jail today after being charged with racketeering on Monday along with 27 other members of his label, YSL Records, including the label’s founder, Young Thug. Prosecutors are calling YSL — Young Stoner Life — a criminal street gang. According to the Atlanta Constitution-Journal, Gunna — real name Sergio Kitchens — is charged with a single count of conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act. Overall, 56 counts (including armed robbery and murder) were issued to the 28 suspects in the case in an 88-page indictment that includes multiple instances of Young Thug’s lyrics.

Gunna is fresh off the release of his second No. 1 album, DS4EVER, which was released in January of this year and led by the trend-sparking single, “Pushin P,” which also featured Young Thug. Gunna’s promotion for the album included a performance of the song on Saturday Night Live, as well as participating in a sketch begging for Netflix to include a “short-ass movies” category — a request to which the streaming platform happily obliged. Other companies also adopted his “Pushin P” slang, showing how much his profile had risen in the years since he and Lil Baby teamed up to release Drip Harder. Unfortunately, he could now see his career derailed by the ongoing RICO case, in which some members of YSL could be facing life in prison.

DaBaby & MoneyBagg Yo Spit Bars On New Single “Wig”

DaBaby is going through a lot these days but it isn’t stopping him from releasing new music. The artist still has a lot to get off his chest these days, and artistically, now is no better time to release some music. The artist seemingly agrees with that assessment as he dropped two new songs today. “Bonnet” with Pooh Shiesty was written about just a few minutes ago, and now, we are bringing you “Wig” with MoneyBagg Yo.

This song has that signature DaBaby bounce as the tempo of the production is fast and energetic. DaBaby offers up his usual inflections with lyrics that contain references to his wealth and status. It is stuff that we come to expect from the artist, and as far as MoneyBagg Yo is concerned, he comes through with the same energy as DaBaby.

Young Thug’s Father Speaks Out After YSL Indictment: “I’m Gonna Fight For Him To The End”

Young Thug’s father, Jeffrey Williams Sr., says that he will fight for his son “to the end,” after he, Gunna, and over twenty other members of YSL were listed in a 56-count indictment, earlier this week. Williams Sr. spoke with WSB-TV for a brief interview on Tuesday.

“I’m gonna fight for him to the end,” Williams told the local outlet. “I’m his father. That’s what I do.”

When asked to describe YSL, he labeled it a business.

“It’s a business. It’s a record label,” he explained. “I want any parent that has lost a child to street violence, any parent that wants, to join in marching on street violence because these are our kids.

As for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’s opinion on YSL, she described it as an “affiliate of the Bloods gang” during a recent press conference.

“YSL is an acronym for ‘Young Slime Life’ and it’s a hybrid gang that operates here in Atlanta and it’s an affiliate of the Bloods gang,” Willis said. “This indictment is significant because it targets 28 people who decided to become involved in a criminal street gang and really do havoc in our community.”

Thug is being charged with conspiracy to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) and participation in criminal street gang activity, while Gunna has been charged with one count of conspiring to violate RICO.

Charges for other names featured in the indictment include murder, aggravated assault, firearms violations, theft, drug possession, participating in street gang activity, armed robbery, and carjacking.

DaBaby Gets Raunchy On The Pooh Shiesty-Assisted “Bonnet”

DaBaby has been a busy man as of late. He has been wrapped up in a few controversies, including new footage from the Walmart incident that took place back in 2018. He also shot a man on his property last month, however, he will not be facing charges due to the circumstances of the incident. Having said that, DaBaby is looking to get back at it in terms of music. Today, he dropped two new songs, including “Bonnet” which contains a feature from Pooh Shiesty.

As you can hear from the track below, “Bonnet” has some skeletal production that features tight claps and a synth in the back that sounds like a siren. Throughout the track, DaBaby offers up his usual flow all while delivering braggadocios and raunchy lyrics. The feature from Pooh Shiesty fits the song quite nicely, and these two have quite a bit of chemistry.

Let us know what you think of this new song, in the comments below.

Quotable Lyrics:

Bitch, there go baby them stuntin’
Hopping out, smelling good, pocket full of money
They hop off your dick when they got what they wanted
Tell me whatever, don’t tell me you love me

Dave Chappelle Attacker To Remain In Jail After Judge Refuses To Lower Bail

Isaiah Lee, who was arrested for attacking Dave Chappelle, is going to remain in jail after a judge refused to reduce his $30,000 bail.  Lee came at the legendary comedian while he was performing at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival, earlier this month.

Lee requested the judge to lower his bail in court on Tuesday, in Los Angeles. He’s been charged with 4 misdemeanors, including possession of a weapon with intent to assault.

The attack occurred at the Hollywood Bowl with Lee rushing Chappelle while carrying a knife disguised as a gun.

After the incident, a representative for Chappelle released a statement saying that the comedian wants the focus to remain on the historic event

“Dave Chappelle celebrated four nights of comedy and music, setting record-breaking sales for a comedian at the Hollywood Bowl,” according to Sims. “This run ties Chappelle with Monty Python for the most headlined shows by any comedian at the Hollywood Bowl, reaching 70k fans of diverse backgrounds during the first ‘Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival,’ and he refuses to allow last night’s incident to overshadow the magic of this historic moment.”

Lee has pleaded not guilty to the charges and faces up to 18 months in county jail if convicted. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 20 for a pretrial hearing.
