Dame Dash Calls Out John Legend for Snubbing Roc-A-Fella: “He Did Some Sneaky Sh*t”

A little late in the year for all this negative energy but here we go. Seems like Dame Dash is still holding a grudge–among many–against John Legend for choosing not to sign with Roc-A-Fella Records back in the day, despite the rapper and entrepreneur’s belief that Legend was destined for the label.

Speaking candidly on The Art of Dialogue, Dame revealed a long-standing frustration about the Grammy-winning singer’s early career decisions.

“John Legend was supposed to be Roc-A-Fella,” Dash declared. “I took him on tour. I wouldn’t have spent money to take John around the world with Kanye [West], letting him sing before Kanye performed, unless I believed he was signing with Roc-A-Fella. But he did some sneaky shit and went to Sony instead.”

Sneaky ish … Ha. Dame is definitely one to never, ever mince words.

Now of course despite not joining Roc-A-Fella, John Legend went on to forge a successful career with Kanye West, becoming the first artist signed to West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint. Legend’s 2004 debut album Get Lifted was released through a joint venture with Sony, a partnership that led to five more albums together.

But way back when, their professional relationship soured during Kanye’s controversial 2020 presidential campaign, particularly over political differences, which created a rift between the two artists.

ICYMI, because we did, in a 2022 interview with The New Yorker, Legend clarified the reason behind the fallout, explaining that the real issue wasn’t Kanye’s support of Donald Trump, but rather Legend’s refusal to back Kanye’s presidential bid. “He was very upset I didn’t support him running for president,” Legend explained. “That’s what caused the strain in our friendship. I don’t know what the future holds, but it’s up to him whether he moves past it.”

Get this, even Kanye himself reflected on their broken relationship during a 2021 appearance on Drink Champs, accusing both Legend and Big Sean of betraying him during his campaign. “When I ran for office, John Legend and Big Sean got used by the Democrats to come at their boy—the one who actually changed their lives. That’s some sell-out shit. I don’t rock with either of them anymore,” Kanye said, further deepening the rift.

Back to Dame Dash. His comments, though, bring attention to another layer of industry politics, as he believes Legend should have joined forces with Roc-A-Fella rather than making a deal with Sony. His comments also highlight the fractured relationships that have become a theme in Kanye West’s career—one that has seen alliances shift as personal and political differences came to the forefront.

For Dame Dash, his longstanding discontent with Legend is part of a broader narrative of shifting allegiances in the hip-hop world. With their once-close ties now fractured, this latest reveal only adds to the complicated history between some of the biggest names in music.

What ya’ll think? Is Dame just being Dame or does he have a point? Eh, we’ll let ya’ll be the judge.

[SEE IT] Young Thug Posts Mariah The Scientist’s Reaction to Leaked Jail Call: “She’s So Mad”

C’mon Thug. That’s what some fans are thinking after a leaked 2022 jail call between Young Thug and Instagram model Leena Sayed has ignited a firestorm online, especially given the rapper’s relationship with Mariah The Scientist at the time.

In the now notorious call, Thug, speaking to a visibly upset Sayed, advises her to “move on” and find someone new to love. He also casually mentions speaking to up to 10 women weekly “just to pass the time.” In a separate call, he confessed to a friend that he didn’t want to hurt Mariah because he felt she “loves him too much.”

As expected the leaked calls quickly went viral, causing an uproar that has drawn reactions from both Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist. On Christmas Day (Dec. 25), Thug took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his girlfriend’s response to the drama. “She so mad, I said merry Christmas and she said thank u [skull emoji],” he posted, giving fans a glimpse into Mariah’s blunt reaction.

While Mariah has yet to directly address the calls, Young Thug issued an apology for the public fallout.

It is the holidays, maybe she’s just focusing on family.

On Christmas Eve (Dec. 24), he tweeted, “Sorry to my baby for all this bullsht on the internet. Love u baby and f*ck em all we know what’s up with us!”

The YSL honcho also clarified his connection to Sayed, denying any romantic involvement and calling the conversation in the leaked footage a misunderstanding. “Man me and twin was talking bout some whole other serious sht,” Thug explained in a series of candid posts. He denied any romantic intent, saying, “I don’t know why she spoke on loving other people or anything else cause ain’t giving no fck bout no hes or ni*as.” He also reinforced his bond with Sayed, calling her “the twin” and emphasized, “I got who I want.”

Thug’s comments were followed up by Leena Sayed addressing the situation on her Instagram Story. She clarified that the jail call took place before she met her child’s father, boxer Devin Haney. “That video was before I met my bd,” Sayed wrote, adding, “I would never talk to Thug or any other man.”

However, in the leaked conversation, Sayed can be heard telling Thug, “I only want you, I don’t like anyone else.”

As for Thug and Mariah’s relationship, it remains unclear where they stand. Despite the controversy, the couple was reportedly spotted together on Christmas Day, enjoying a winter getaway in ski gear. Though the situation remains complicated, it seems that for now, they are moving forward together—publicly and privately.

Drake Correct Adin Ross After He Says “Rap is Dead,” Gives Update on Collab Album with PND

Drake appeared on stream with Adin Ross and spoke about his album with PARTYNEXTDOOR but also corrected him on saying rap is dead.

When Ross says “rap is dead,” Drake says, “let’s not go there.”

He added, “It’ll never die. It was a wear NBA season. The new season starts in five days anyway.”

But getting back to the album with PND, Drake says the album is “the best that both of us has to offer,” while stating the body of work is coming and “pretty much done.”

Earlier this month, PARTYNEXTDOOR gave more details about a forthcoming joint album with Drake. While on stage, PND revealed he can dive into completing the project once he concludes the tour.

“I have one more show on this tour,” PND said. “And then the album is getting finished.”

A previous update came from PARTYNEXTDOOR himself during an appearance on The Fry Yiy Show, where he provided fans with an exciting update.

“I have had an insane week,” PARTYNEXTDOOR shared. “So… You guys know what’s coming for you. PARTY and Drake have a classic. And we, you know, we trying to put the finishing touches on it, so… Yeah, it’s a jam-packed month for me filled with the thing that I love to do the most. Besides being a great dad, the world’s greatest dad. But that’s besides the point.”

His comments however cryptic, have only heightened anticipation, with fans hopeful that the project will arrive soon.

An October release would be ideal, as it coincides with the duo’s frequent references to fall as the perfect season for their music. Let’s be real its an October’s Very Own drop so Oct, makes sense.

Get this, the first hint about the joint album came from Drake earlier this summer when he surprised fans during his set at the Toronto stop of Party’s Sorry, I’m Outside tour. “So, you get the summer over with, you do what you need to do,” Drake told the crowd. “I know all you girls are outside. When it gets a little chilly, PartyNextDoor and Drake album will be waiting right there for you.”

What’s more, PARTYNEXTDOOR later confirmed the project in an interview with social media personality Awaiz Punjani, stating, “The one we doing right now – all 15 we doing right now,” when asked about his favorite track. Fans are now anxiously counting down the days, expecting a powerhouse album from the OVO duo.

[WATCH] N.O.R.E. Fires Back at Dame Dash: ‘Get Ya Life Together’

Screen Shot 2024 12 23 at 11.33.22 AM

Whelp, that was quick. N.O.R.E., co-host of the popular podcast Drink Champs, clapped back at Dame Dash after Dash criticized the show in a recent interview. During the Dec. 22 Art of Dialogue Q&A, Dash commented on Jay-Z’s current sexual assault lawsuit, claiming that platforms like Drink Champs and Charlamagne Tha God wouldn’t be enough to salvage Hov’s reputation. He suggested Jay-Z would need the support of major outlets like People and Entertainment Tonight.

Check out what Dame said …

N.O.R.E. went in on Instagram Stories in the most subtle of ways, calling Dash “Lame Dash” and accusing him of being a “chatty patty”—a term Dame coined in 2015 to mock gossiping. N.O.R.E. reminded Dash of his own struggles, referencing his financial issues and public complaints about Jay-Z. “Get your life together. My number’s the same if you wanna work it out,” N.O.R.E. stated, while expressing respect despite the feud.

Now about that N.O.R.E. response …

It was a funny clap back, almost unserious but N.O.R.E. was probably holding back if you know anything about the Queens rap legend turned successful podcaster.

Now get this, the back and forth isn’t the first conflict between the two. Dash previously accused N.O.R.E. of forcing him to drink Ciroc during a 2020 Drink Champs interview, while N.O.R.E. countered by alleging he was never paid for his contributions to Roc-A-Fella projects. Dash has also claimed that Jay-Z dissuaded him from signing N.O.R.E. to Roc-A-Fella Records.

If you just forgot or maybe the legacy escapes you, Dash, once a music mogul and co-founder of Roc-A-Fella, has faced significant financial troubles in recent years, including foreclosure and lawsuits. Meanwhile, Drink Champs, co-hosted by N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, remains a leading hip-hop podcast, known for candid interviews with iconic artists and industry insiders.

Kanye West’s Silver Mask Stunt Goes Viral: “…you don’t have the right to see my face.”

Screen Shot 2024 12 20 at 2.25.19 PM

Okay, so 2024 is almost over but the meme worthy shenanigans from your favorite celebs is unwavering. What do we mean, well, Je-sus-Walks … for real when it comes to Ye or so it appears. A resurfaced video of Kanye West wearing a silver hood mask during a 2021 deposition hearing has gone viral, shedding light on the rapper’s unusual behavior during his legal battle with MyChannel Inc. The deposition, part of a $10 million lawsuit involving the alleged misuse of AI technology, lasted only 10 minutes before West abruptly ended the session by shutting his laptop.

The weird AF clip shows West donning a hat reading “Rooted in Ignorance” and displaying combative behavior. When instructed to set his phone aside to focus on the proceedings, West quipped, “Due to my mental geniusness in order to focus on this b—––, I need to be on a phone.” His attorney, Ekwan Rhowe, urged compliance, but the rapper instead escalated the situation by putting on a silver mask depicting Jesus Christ.

Okay, when questioned by Michael Popok, a lawyer for MyChannel Inc., about the mask, West responded, “Because you don’t have the right to see my face.” The session further unraveled as West reacted angrily to questions about his location, declaring, “Are you stupid?! I’m not going to tell you all the things… You are talking to the richest Black person in the history of America!”

What’s interesting is the deposition was part of a larger legal dispute with MyChannel Inc., a Black-owned tech startup that alleged West reneged on an oral agreement to collaborate on his Sunday Service and Yeezy e-commerce platforms without payment. The company sought $20 million in damages and later pushed for $62,725 in sanctions for West’s disruptive behavior. However, the case was resolved three months later through a confidential settlement.

The viral deposition footage and that is putting it lightly, was recently featured in A&E’s Interrogation Raw: Celebrity Under Oath, reigniting public interest in West’s erratic antics and legal troubles.

West’s unpredictable behavior has often raised questions about his mental health, especially following his 2018 bipolar disorder diagnosis. In a 2019 interview with David Letterman, West reflected on the challenges of living with the condition, describing it as “like a sprained brain.” He added, “Once our brain gets to a point of spraining, people do everything to make it worse.”

While the MyChannel case may be settled, the deposition remains a striking example of the chaos that often surrounds West, blending legal drama with his unpredictable public persona.

What’s next? Who knows but we’re here for it. Sort of.

[WATCH] Dr. Umar Defends Drake’s UMG Lawsuit But Rejects Drizzy and Kendrick’s Interracial Relationships

Screen Shot 2024 12 19 at 5.30.39 PM

In the never ending feud between Drake and Kendrick, the former’s legal battle against Universal Music Group (UMG) and Spotify over “Not Like Us,” has sparked widespread debate and has most of the “culture” against Drake. Most. Not all.

ICYMI, the Toronto rapper’s pre-action petition, filed in November, accuses UMG of using bots and payola to boost Kendrick’s track while suppressing his own music. Drake also alleges defamation, claiming UMG allowed the release of a song where Kendrick labels him an “alleged predator.” The move has divided fans, with some mocking Drake and others suggesting his lawsuit could reveal systemic corruption in the music industry.

Here’s where it gets interesting and remember we said most, not all … An unexpected supporter of Drake’s case is Dr. Umar Johnson, a controversial public figure known for his outspoken opinions.

Yes, THAT Dr. Umar is sliding for Drizzy.

Get this, in a recent interview with The Art of Dialogue, Dr. Umar argued that Drake’s accusations hold weight. “Drake is alleging that Universal Music Group is suppressing his music, suppressing his streams,” he said. “They haven’t been marketing him as strongly as they have been marketing Kendrick Lamar. Kendrick and Drake are both signed to labels that are subsidiaries of Universal Music Group. So that is a conflict of interest. You represent me and you represent my arch-nemesis—that’s a conflict of interest.”

But there’s more. Dr. Umar also claimed there’s anecdotal evidence of bias. “Categorically and qualitatively speaking, I have heard Kendrick’s ‘Not Like Us’ a whole lot more since it dropped than I’ve heard Drake,” he said. “Even though I don’t listen to them personally […] I’m around enough other people to know what’s on the radio, and it’s Kendrick—not Drake as much.”

However, Dr. Umar’s views extended beyond music to Kendrick and Drake’s personal lives. He openly criticized both artists for their past interracial relationships, saying, “If brother Kendrick, who I love and respect, and Drake, who I love and respect—y’all, this ain’t no personal issue—but if Kendrick tells me that his fiancée does not identify as a Black woman on a full-time basis, then he is a bunny hopper and I cannot listen to his music.”

Of course, Drake’s lawsuit and Dr. Umar’s unexpected support adds another layer of intrigue to his long-standing rivalry with Kendrick Lamar. Fans and industry insiders alike are closely watching as the case unfolds, with some wondering if Drake’s legal claims will lead to revelations about the inner workings of the music business—or if the personal jabs will overshadow the core issues.
