Macklemore Teams Up With Palestinian Artists For “Hind’s Hall 2”

Macklemore has teamed up with several Palestinian artists for his new song, “Hind’s Hall 2.” They include MC Abdul and Anees Mokhiber as well as author and comedian Amer Zahr. Similar to the first song, all proceeds will go to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). On the track, he calls out Democratic Presidential Candidate Kamala Harris. “Hey Kamala, I don’t know if you listening, but stop sending money and weapons, you ain’t winning Michigan. We are committed, and hell no we ain’t switching positions, because the whole world turned Palestinian,” he raps.

“Hind’s Hall” references a new name that pro-Palestinian protesters at Columbia University gave to a building on campus, earlier this year. It refers to the six-year-old Palestinian child Hind Rajab, who was killed in northern Gaza by Israeli forces. Macklemore has been vocal in his support for Palestine since Israel began retaliating for the October 7th attack, last year. “My heart deeply hurts for the Israelis that lost loved ones to such an abomination,” he wrote at the time. ”… But killing innocent humans in retaliation as collective punishment is not the answer. That is why I am supporting the people around the world who are calling for a ceasefire… I stand for a Free Palestine and an end to the looming genocide of its people.” Check out his newest song, “Hind’s Hall 2,” below. Wu-Tang Clan Affiliate Blasts Macklemore’s Pro-Palestine Song In New Diss Track

Macklemore’s pro-Palestine song “Hind’s Hall” drew much praise and much backlash for a couple of different reasons, the most obvious of which is a political disagreement with his stance on the current conflict with Israel and Hamas. Wu-Tang Clan affiliate Remedy is one of many who criticized the rapper for this track, and released a response of his own with the diss “Ben” and an accompanying music video. The visual, in addition to showing various statistics and video evidence of some of the topics, also shows a performance in which he dressed up in a stereotypical Jewish “costume,” linking this to alleged antisemitism within “Hind’s Hall.”

Furthermore, Remedy attempts to debunk what he perceives as Macklemore’s bigoted claims about Jewish people and their connections to governance and the media. He will donate all proceeds from the “Ben” track to Polyphony, “an organization that bridges the divide between the Palestinian and Israeli communities, by using music as a common ground,” per the YouTube video’s description. It’s important to note that this is a much more gray, nuanced, and complicated topic than what either MC is letting on in their songs. So take their statements with a grain of salt and do your own research on both sides to avoid bigoted generalizations, blind defense of systemic oppression, or anything in between.

Remedy’s Macklemore Diss “Ben”: Listen & Watch The Music Video

When I say ‘Free Palestine,’ it’s not against anyone,” Macklemore posted on social media last December, before “Hind’s Hall” came out. “It actually means we should protect everyone. It means equality for all. Respect, peace and love. It means the right to exist, regardless of what sector you’re from. My intention is to never offend anyone. I want every soul in this arena to feel the reflection of love. But there’s innocent humans out in Gaza murdered with our dollars. Those precious human lives are an extension of us.

“I can’t get up here and jump around in a fur coat and pretend while in my gut… my gut’s saying, ‘You know better, Ben,’” Macklemore continued. “The ancestors yelling, ‘You’d better step up for us.’ I love my Jewish brothers and sisters so much. My perspective is one that’s saying ‘Free Palestine’ is also rooted in your protection, my loves. There isn’t a drop of anti-Semitic thought in my head or my blood. ‘Never again,’ means never again for all.”

Macklemore Fed Up With Drake Vs. Kendrick Lamar Beef Coverage In Pro-Palestinian Track “HIND’S HALL”

Macklemore has been the butt of a lot of jokes and ridicule over the course of his career. Most of that is from infamously “robbing” Kendrick Lamar of multiple GRAMMY awards at the 56th show. However those criticisms are out the window after the Seattle rapper spoke up in a big way. He dropped “HIND’S HALL,” a pro-Palestinian anthem. It is a form of commentary on the lack of coverage of the tragedies occurring in the Middle East. During the passionate 2:49 track, Macklemore also takes some jabs at Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

What happened to the artist? What d’you got to say? / If I was on a label, you could drop me today
I’d be fine with it ’cause the heart fed my page / I want a ceasefire, f*** a response from Drake (Woo)
.” It is not a direct shot at either artist. Instead, it is him venting his frustrations at how much publicity their bloody feud is getting. However, it could be taken as “why are my fellow artists not speaking out and doing what they can to show support for Palestine?”

Macklemore Doesn’t Want To Hear About Drake & Kendrick

One name who has been heavily criticized for not doing anything during this lengthy travesty is DJ Khaled, especially since his parents are Palestinian. The Weeknd has been one major artist who has done what he could and then some, donating millions of dollars worth of food to aid the Palestinian people. “HIND’S HALL” is currently on Macklemore’s social media platforms. But when it hits streaming, all of the proceeds are doing directly to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) for Palestine refugees.

What are your thoughts on Macklemore dropping “HIND’S HALL” and calling out Drake and Kendrick Lamar? Does this track come across as corny and as a way to capitalize on the beef, or was this needed? Will either rapper respond, why or why not? We would like to hear what you have to say, so be sure to leave your takes in the comments section. In case you missed it, for weeks now, there have been pro-Palestine protests at Columbia University, and they have taken over to the point that the school’s main commencement ceremony was just canceled. Macklemore is now showing support for these protestors with a new song, “Hind’s Hall.” The song is titled after the new name protesters have given the school’s Hamilton Hall, in honor of a 6-year-old girl who died in Gaza.

The track starts with a direct backing of the protestors as Macklemore raps, “Yeah, the people, they won’t leave / What is threatening about divesting and wanting peace? / The problem isn’t the protests, it’s what they’re protesting / It goes against what our country is funding.”

He also goes after President Joe Biden, rapping, “The blood is on your hands, Biden, we can see it all / And f*ck no, I’m not voting for you in the fall.”

Macklemore later nods to the ongoing Drake/Kendrick Lamar feud, saying, “What happened to the artist? What do you got to say? / If I was on a label, you could drop me today / I’d be fine with it ’cause the heart fed my page / I want a ceasefire, f*ck a response from Drake.”

This isn’t Macklemore’s first time speaking up about Palestine: At a November 2023 rally, he said, “They told me to be quiet. They told me to do my research, to go back, that it’s too complex to say something, right? To be silent in this moment. In the last three weeks, I’ve gone back, and I’ve done some research. […] I’m teachable. I don’t know enough. But I know enough that this is a genocide.”
