Kevin Hart’s Former Assistant Seeks Dismissal from Extortion Lawsuit

Back in January, comedian Kevin Hart filed a lawsuit against his former personal assistant, Miesha Shakes, and gossip vlogger Tasha K, accusing them of attempting to extort him. Now, Shakes is fighting back, seeking dismissal from the lawsuit.

In Touch reports that Miesha Shakes has asked a Los Angeles judge to remove her from the bombshell civil extortion case. According to court documents obtained by In Touch, Shakes denies all allegations of wrongdoing brought against her by Hart, 45.

Last year, Hart sued Shakes over an interview she did with YouTuber Tasha K. He claimed that Shakes made false statements and disclosed information she learned during her employment with him, which violated a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) she signed after leaving her position. Shakes worked for Hart from 2017 to 2020.

Shakes’ legal team argued that Hart “failed to plead specifically which statements they contend are false and defamatory or which facts [he] contends are true and an invasion of privacy.” They also stated that Hart’s claims are barred “because the statements challenged as false and defamatory, to the extent they can be determined, are substantially true.”

Moreover, Shakes asserted that her statements were not defamatory and “constitute expressions of protection opinion.” She claimed she did not act with malice and did not cause Hart any damage.

Regarding the NDA, Shakes’ lawyer argued that the contract was “invalid/illegal and cannot be enforced based on mental or physical incapacity which prevented [Miesha] from having the legal capacity to enter into or understand the alleged contract(s).”

Beyoncé’s ‘Freedom’ Sees Jump in Streaming After Use by Kamala Harris’ Campaign

Let us find out the “Kamala Harris effect” is not only a real thing but influencing streaming data. That’s because Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” is experiencing a noticeable increase in streams after the Democratic presidential candidate used the 2016 track during her first campaign appearances this week.

Just check the data from Luminate that reveals that U.S. on-demand streams for “Freedom” skyrocketed by over 1,300 percent from Sunday to Tuesday, climbing from 16,600 streams to 235,400 in just a few days.

“Freedom,” featuring Kendrick Lamar and part of Beyoncé’s sixth album “Lemonade,” was the anthem playing as Harris visited her campaign headquarters in Delaware, shortly after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection. There goes Kendrick again.

As reported by CNN, Beyoncé gave her blessing for Harris to use “Freedom” as her walk-out song just hours before her appearance and has allowed its continued use throughout her campaign.

Get this, the song seems to resonate with Harris, who also featured it in a campaign video released earlier on Thursday. While Beyoncé hasn’t officially endorsed Harris’s presidential bid, she supported Biden and Harris in the 2020 election, urging her fans to vote.

ICYMI, many celebrities and musicians are rallying behind Harris’s candidacy. Charli XCX notably referenced her latest album “Brat” by tweeting, “Kamala IS brat,” which led Harris’s campaign team to adopt the album’s visual identity for their header on X (formerly Twitter). Tessa Thompson Set to Star and Executive Produce ‘His & Hers’ a Murder Mystery Series for Netflix

Tessa Thompson has her next television project on deck. The “Creed” star is set to star in and executive produce a new thriller series for Netflix, adapted from Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel “His & Hers.”

If you haven’t read the book, the thrilling series centers on a woman who was once a successful journalist but is drawn back into investigative work due to a murder. Unlike the book, which is set in London, the series will be based in Atlanta, aligning with the trend of Hollywood productions moving to Georgia. Atlanta as the backdrop of a murder mystery? You have our full attention!

“Set in the sweltering heat of Atlanta, Anna [Thompson] lives in haunting reculsivity, fading away from her friends and career as a journalist. But when she overhears about a murder in Dahlonega–the sleepy town where she grew up–Anna is snapped back to life, pouncing on the case and searching for answers. Detective Jack Harper is strangely suspicious of her involvement, chasing her into the crosshairs of his own investigation. There are two sides to every story: his and hers, which means someone is always lying.”

Leading the charge behind the camera is Dee Johnson, known for “Nashville” and “Fellow Travelers”, who will serve as showrunner and write alongside “Ozark” creator Bill Dubuque. Executive producers include Jessica Chastain, Kelly Carmichael, Kishori Rajan, Kristen Campo, and Thompson. William Olroyd will write and direct the first episode.

VP Kamala Harris Campaigns in Deep Red Indiana During Heartfelt Address to Black Sorority ‘Zetas’

Vice President Kamala Harris kept up her strong momentum today (July 24) as she addressed members of the historically Black sorority Zeta Phi Beta in deep red Indiana. In her speech, she urging the sorority to support her groundbreaking bid for the presidency in the upcoming November election. 

“We are not playing around,” VP Harris emphasized in her speech. That part!

The Vice President, delivered her speech three days after she officially announced her candidacy for the White House. 

VP Harris went on to say:

“In this moment, I believe we face a choice between two different visions for our nation, one focused on the future, the other focused on the past. And with your support, I am fighting for our nation’s future.” That she is!

You may know Indiana has not voted for a Democratic presidential candidate in nearly 16 years, but VP Harris, who is of Black and South Asian descent, spoke to a friendly audience already enthusiastic about her candidacy. 

Her energetic campaign, flowing with record breaking campaign dollars aims to leverage this enthusiasm to broaden its coalition.

As said in previous speeches, VP Harris expressed gratitude to the women in the room for their efforts in electing her as vice president alongside Joe Biden:

”And now, in this moment, our nation needs your leadership once again,” she said.

Get this, VP Harris mentioned that Biden would address the nation later that Wednesday in what is expected to be one of his most important speeches of his career to explain his pivotal decision to step aside, calling him “a leader with a bold vision.” She added, “We are all deeply, deeply grateful for his service to our nation,” before starkly contrasting her administration’s agenda with Trump’s plan to in what many people feel will destroy democracy as we know it. 

ICYMI, after VP Harris announced her candidacy, about 90,000 Black women joined a video call Sunday night to show their support for the Howard University alumna and Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority sister.

At the event, VP Harris adopted Beyoncé’s song “Freedom” as her walk-on music at events adding to the electricity of her campaign. The Beyhive is bound to show up and show out for sure.

What’s next? Following her Indiana visit, VP Harris is scheduled to travel to Houston on Thursday to speak at the national convention of the American Federation of Teachers, which has endorsed her candidacy. That’s a big deal. Teachers matter and VP Kamala Harris understands who she will need to help her win the White House.

Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s Mother Praises VP Kamala Harris For POTUS in IG Endorsement

The star endorsements are bound to trickle in and Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, has publicly given her stamp of approval with an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for POTUS. 

Knowles made her support on Instagram known shortly after President Joe Biden announced he would not seek reelection. Like many to follow, we’re sure.

The celebrity mother of Queen Bey, posted a photo with Harris, accompanied by a caption expressing her excitement. Here’s the caption:

“New, Youthful, Sharp, energy!!!! You asked for it and our President Biden did what was best for the country! Putting personal ego, power, and fame aside. That is the definition of a great leader. Thank you, President Biden, for your service and your leadership. Go Vice President Kamala Harris for President.” She concluded with, “Let’s Go #kamala2024.”

Get this, Knowles shared a post from Hues and Culture that defended Harris against recent criticism, citing Malcolm X’s words: 

“The most disrespected person in America is the Black woman.” The post praised Harris’s qualifications and urged respect and support for her candidacy: “Kamala’s got the credentials — from her political grind to her college smarts — not to mention no felonies on her record, which can’t be said about some of her opponents. She’s out here proving she’s more than qualified. It’s time we lift her up and give her the respect she deserves.”

Harris and Knowles share a connection beyond politics; last summer, Harris attended Beyoncé’s Renaissance concert near Washington, D.C., after receiving gifted tickets from the superstar.

ICYMI, President Biden’s just withdrew from the 2024 race after weeks of pressure and speculation from well, everyone who’s anyone within the political spectrum of pundits. In his announcement letter, he stated, “I believe it is in the best interest of my party and my country for me to stand down and to focus solely on my duties as President for the rest of my term.”

Vice President Kamala Harris spoke this phrase, which has now become a meme, on May 10, 2023, during her remarks at the swearing-in ceremony for the President’s Advisory Commission on Advancing Educational Equity, Excellence, and Economic Opportunity for Hispanics. Can we first acknowledge how dope that ceremony was?

Back to the coconuts … 

The quote gained significant attention around June 28, 2024, according to Google Trends data. 

Get this, the surge in interest came just days after a debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, coinciding with growing calls for Biden to step out of the presidential race.

The context of Harris’s “coconut tree” remark involved a broader discussion where she mentioned how “everything is in context,” and recalled how her mother used to give her a hard time. 

The quote itself, “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree?” was delivered with a sudden tone shift from light-hearted to serious, followed by, “you exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.”

Making more sense, right?

The imagery of falling out of a coconut tree combined with Harris’s sudden seriousness made the quote memorable. Gotta love (or hate) meme culture.

While initially, it did not attract much attention, it became widely popular online almost a year later, especially after Biden’s challenging debate performance. The quote’s rise to meme status was fueled by discussions about whether Harris should take over Biden’s spot in the presidential race.

Harris’s expression resonated with many, leading to a proliferation of memes, both ironic and supportive, suggesting her as a suitable replacement for Biden. 

We agree – she is.

VP Kamala Harris, the Former Prosecutor Poised to Take on Trump in the 2024 Presidential Election

VP Harris is about to be the official Democratic nominee for President of the United States. Some of ya’ll are fired up. Others are hesitant. Then there are those who are already acting up, and down right horrible in their vile, racist and misogynistic attacks. 

But the choice to some voters is clear. It’s super simple. On one side you have a former President running for a third time, who is a 34-time convicted felon. Full stop. He has 34 felonies. 

On the other side, formalities aside, Vice President Kamala Harris is a former prosecutor who is about to go head to head with said felon.

This is about to the choice. Felon or prosecutor. But does her record as a prosecutor allow her to stand on business or does it hurt her chances to become the first woman who is ethnically Black and South Asian, elected to the most powerful office in the world?

One thing is clear Vice President Kamala Harris is in a unique position to “prosecute her case” that she is better for America than the guy awaiting sentencing in New York State. Maybe she will pull from her days as an assistant district attorney in San Francisco and employ her slogan “Kamala Harris, for the people.” Believe it or not, many people are pro law and order.

But hold up … Before we just say, law and order this, prosecutor over felon that, let’s look at a snapshot of just who Vice President Harris is as a former officer of the court.

Ya’ll ready? 

During her storied career from attorney to prosecutor to DA to Attorney General of California to US Senator , Harris solidified her reputation as a figure who was tough-on-crime.

At the 2016 Democratic convention, she referred to herself as California’s “top cop.” With the state of trust or lack there of in various communities across America, that didn’t have the positive affect she may have hoped but many were impressed – the law and order crowd.

Here’s what Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who endorsed Harris pretty fast, following Biden’s decision, stated: 

“As a former prosecutor, Vice President Harris has a lot of experience holding convicted felons accountable. She was fighting on behalf of abused women. She was in the trenches against giant banks. She was out in the middle of multiple fights every day as a prosecutor and then attorney general in California.”

Some say she has locked up a lot of people who look like her. That’s true. Many of which who broke laws. Even for charges that she now opposes like marijuana. 

Harris’s views on weed have since evolved. Get this, she initially opposed a 2010 California ballot initiative to legalize weed. But she later advocated for ending the war on drugs and legalizing marijuana. A ha. 

Fast forward to 2019, she declared, “It is past time to end the failed war on drugs, and it begins with legalizing marijuana.” The Biden administration has since begun the process of rescheduling marijuana from Schedule I to Schedule III. In March, at a White House event, Harris reiterated, “Nobody should have to go to jail for smoking weed.”

Harris’ views on criminal justice reform didn’t end with weed. She entered the U.S. Senate in 2017, relatively a short time ago and quickly became a strong advocate for change. Just with the tragic story of George Floyd’s death in 2020, Harris has consistently worked to reduce recidivism, support post-prison rehabilitation, and improve civil rights for children in the juvenile justice system. All sounds good, right? Good leaders are able to adapt their views. Harris is showing that she can and has done just that. 

But consistent and not flip flopping is also a good leadership quality. Just take a look at her 2019 presidential campaign. Harris for a federal moratorium on the death penalty, reflecting her long-standing opposition. This stance caused controversy during her tenure as a San Francisco prosecutor when she refused to seek the death penalty for a suspect accused of killing a police officer. This position did not haunt her. Despite opposition from law enforcement, she won the attorney general race in 2010 and later appealed a federal judge’s ruling that declared California’s death penalty unconstitutional, arguing it was legally unsound and compromised defendant protections.

So she can adapt and remain consistent on her views, evident from her record as a prosecutor. Can this experience allow her to prosecute Donald Trump as a bad choice for America?

Campaign strategists point to previous campaign ads that highlight her prosecutorial achievements: 

“She prosecuted sex predators. He is one. She shut down for-profit colleges that swindled Americans. He was a for-profit college – literally,” the narrator states, showing footage of Harris and then Trump. “He’s owned by the big banks. She’s the attorney general who beat the biggest banks in America and forced them to pay homeowners $18 billion.”

Harris’s prosecutorial background provides a stark contrast to Trump, framing her as a candidate committed to justice and accountability. 

What does Trump stand for?

Sound simple. The prosecutor or the felon. Guess we’ll find out after she’s officially nominated and then we’ll really get to it in November.

Jessica White Turns to In-Vitro Fertilization on Her Journey to Motherhood

Model and reality star Jessica White, 40, is determined to fulfill her dream of becoming a mother. White revealed that she is undergoing in-vitro fertilization (IVF) to have a baby on her own–without a partner, following a miscarriage with her ex, Nick Cannon.

In an interview with Page Six’s “Virtual Reali-Tea,” White revealed, “The hormones are running rampant. I’m having hot flashes, I’m crying all the time. I’m mad about the wind blowing. It’s working!” White shared, describing her experience as a real-life “pin cushion” due to the numerous shots required for the treatment. “We’re going to go in next month and retrieve all the eggs,” she continued. “You get tired of being picked … and having to stab yourself in the stomach. It’s crazy but it’s worth it.”

White turned to IVF after discovering a sizable uterine fibroid and a 10-centimeter cyst that prevented her from successfully carrying a fetus to term. “I had six miscarriages,” she explained, noting that her fertility issues extended beyond the miscarriage with Cannon that she publicly spoke about in 2021. “No baby could actually survive in my womb in the first place,” she reflected. “It is a very lonely and isolating experience.”

Now, with her medical issues addressed and a supportive team of doctors, White is optimistic about starting a family. “I just keep thinking about those sweet two little babies that I’ll be implanting in my womb in the next couple of months,” she said, having already found a sperm donor. “I have my baby’s daddy … and I’m stuck on that being the one.”

White’s relationship with Cannon, a father of 12, ended partly due to his public announcement of having a baby with Brittany Bell. “She was aware that I had just had a miscarriage, two weeks prior to her news coming out, because he told me that he told her. And I was living at his house, she knew that as well,” White recalled. “But I found out on Instagram along with the rest of the world.”

White noted that she and Cannon “were about to start in vitro” when she discovered Bell was expecting her second child with Cannon in June 2020. “So, when I came out, people thought I was this homewrecker. No, there was a real life going on. I was bullied for months with that whole situation,” she said.

Despite their breakup, White still holds affection for Cannon. “I love Nick still. I’ll always love him. Nick and I grew up together, so that’s not something that will ever fade,” she said. “Whether children came here or not, his DNA is still implanted inside of me. It’s a part of my brain fragment now. It just didn’t work out, but the love will never be lost.”

As she embarks on this new chapter, White remains hopeful and resilient, looking forward to the possibility of motherhood through IVF.

Kim Kardashian recently opened up about a personal family matter on the She MD podcast, sharing that one of her sons with ex-husband Kanye West has been diagnosed with a skin condition known as vitiligo. The 43-year-old business mogul mentioned that her son “has vitiligo very mildly,” though she did not specify whether she was referring to five-year-old Psalm or eight-year-old Saint.

Vitiligo is a long-term condition that causes patches of skin to lose their pigment and become paler. Dr. Vinesh Mistry, an NHS GP and doctor at One Day Tests, explained: “There are several types of vitiligo, but it is usually classified as generalized (affecting both sides of the body) or segmental (affecting only one part or side of the body).” According to the NHS, vitiligo can affect any area of the skin but commonly appears on the face, neck, hands, and in skin creases.

Dr. Mistry added, “Vitiligo can affect people of any skin color, not just those with darker skin tones or mixed-race parents. The condition is also not associated with skin cancer.” The white patches associated with vitiligo develop because the affected individuals lack enough melanocytes, the cells responsible for producing melanin. Triggers such as severe illness, stress, and chemical skin injuries, along with a positive family history, may contribute to the development of vitiligo.

The NHS website details that non-segmental vitiligo, the most prevalent type, appears to be an autoimmune disorder. The initial signs of vitiligo are pale patches of skin that gradually turn pure white. At the center of the affected patch, the skin often appears white, with the color fading to lighter hues at the edges. Blood vessels beneath the skin may give the patch a pinkish appearance, and the edges may be smooth or irregular. In some cases, the patches might be red or swollen, or have a brown tint known as hyperpigmentation. While vitiligo is not associated with painful skin conditions like dryness, the affected areas might occasionally itch.

Vitiligo can be hereditary, but it does not follow a simple inheritance pattern. Dr. Mistry noted, “A child of a parent with vitiligo is not guaranteed to acquire the condition. Even in identical twins, there is no guarantee that both would be affected, supporting the theory that vitiligo has both genetic and environmental determinants.”
