Lizzo Wants AAVE To Be “Reserved For The People Who Created It”

Lizzo has never been a stranger to expressing her opinions on the internet, and recently, she decided to weigh in on non-African American people using AAVE (African American Vernacular English). According to her, it can have some serious consequences, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. She explains that while certain terms have risen to popularity online, they’ve been used by the African American community for years, and should be reserved for those who created them. The hitmaker responded to a TikTok of a woman joking about being annoyed by the overuse of the term “type sh*t” by potential romantic partners.

“Why don’t we bring back gatekeeping?” Lizzo begins. “So that AAVE is reserved for the people who created it and grew up speaking it. So that all these people that are now talking like Black people because they read words on the internet and don’t know the origin and don’t participate in the culture don’t overuse it and then things like this happen.”

Lizzo Thinks “Gatekeeping” Should Be Brought Back

“Because ‘ganglish’ is definitely the new ‘thug,’” Lizzo continues. “When police would call someone a ‘thug’ but it’s really a Black person, which is the new hard R N-word. I know so many people who have said ‘type sh*t type sh*t’ their entire lives. I’ve heard them talk like that for years before it became trendy on the internet to say that. But maybe if these internet people get sick of it, we can just continue to use our dialect in peace… Type sh*t.”

While some social media users are dissing Lizzo for getting “too offended,” others agree with her. Do you? What do you think of her claims that non-African Americans using AAVE could have serious consequences? What about her calling for “gatekeeping” to be brought back? Dee-1 Says He Was Offered Record Deal In Exchange For “Homosexual Acts”

Dee-1 has been making headlines in recent months for calling out major players in the music industry. He’s gone after the likes of Rick Ross, Jim Jones, Meek Mill, and more. The Christian rapper frequently accuses his peers of contributing to “violence” and other harmful behavior, also urging them to change their ways to promote positivity. He’s now made yet another attention-grabbing statement about the industry, claiming that he was asked to take part in sexual acts in exchange for record deals.

During a recent conversation with The Art of Dialogue, Dee-1 was asked whether or not he feels as though there are “gatekeepers” in hip-hop. His response was pretty shocking, to say the least. According to the Louisiana-born performer, he’s stuck to his beliefs despite opportunities to have doors in his career opened for him.

Dee-1 Discusses “Gatekeepers” In The Music Industry

“Bro I’ve had gatekeepers in the music industry who have literally tried to hold a record deal behind their back and let me know like, ‘Look, if you a part of this homosexual act that I’m tryna take part in? Yeah, come on! This door’ll open real quick for you.’ I got a song where I’ve talked about that before called ‘The Devil’s Playground,’” he explained. “This is real, dog. And the only way that type of stuff can work on you is if you let them have all the leverage to where you want what’s behind that gate that bad. So that’s a real thing.”

Dee-1’s comments put him at odds with Joe Budden last month, who accused the “I Know God” artist of clout-chasing. Dee-1 fired back by calling Budden an “easy target.” He also claimed that he recorded a diss track, though he says he won’t drop it for his own good. What do you think of Dee-1 claiming that he was asked to take part in “homosexual acts” for record deals? What about him claiming that he’s refused to bow down to the “gatekeepers” of hip-hop? Ice Cube Calls Out “Gatekeepers” Blocking His Big3 League

Ice Cube slammed “gatekeepers” on Twitter, Sunday, for putting up resistance to the growth of his BIG3 basketball league. He says he’ll be going on a “Fuck the Gatekeepers” podcast tour this summer to expose those working against him.

“I’ma go talk to everybody,” the former N.W.A. rapper said. “Everybody. And get a chance to get my message out to the people. Be able to let people hear from me. And, you might agree, you might not. But, the important thing is, for me to go on these platforms and say what I feel about what I think.”

Cube says that he’s been getting pushback from the NBA and major television networks since launching the league in 2017. He continued: “Some people may get pissed off. ‘Cause I’m going to talk to everybody. I’m not playing. It’s gone be a cr*zy summer. It’s gone be fun.”

Despite the lack of support from mainstays in the industry, Cube says that the Big3 is more popular than ever. Appearing on Logan Paul’s IMPAULSIVE podcast, earlier this year, he claimed that the league attracts more views than both the MLS and NHL. “It’s been hard as hell to get it going. I mean, to get people to start fighting us on these different fronts,” Cube said at the time. “Our ratings are better than MLS, our ratings are better than NHL. So we got a sport that’s making noise. I wouldn’t know the world no different. This is just a new version of the same song. We dealt with it in music, movies and we’re dealing with it in sports.”

Ice Cube Calls Out “Gatekeepers”

He continued: “We’ve had five great seasons so we’re planning to have our sixth, but the challenges are there for any young league. We’re just meeting them head-on and it’s cool people will get a chance to see what we’re going through.” The new season of Big3 will be kicking off at United Center Arena in Chicago on June 25.
