NFL Stars Robert Quinn And Jimmy Graham Arrested In Separate Incidents

Two NFL players have been arrested over the course of the past 24 hours. Robert Quinn, who is currently a free agent, was arrested on August 18 on suspicion of a hit-and-run. The defensive end was arrested in Summerville, South Carolina. Police accused the 33-year-old of ramming his pickup truck into four vehicles as well as assaulting a woman in a residential neighborhood. Quinn was charged with one count of third-degree assault and battery, one count of hit-and-run of an attended vehicle, four counts of hit-and-run property damage, and one count of striking fixtures adjacent to a highway.

Quinn played college football at North Carolina before being drafted in 2011 by the Rams. He appeared in every game over the course of his rookie contract and remained with the team until 2017. After back-to-back one-year stints with the Cowboys and Dolphins, he joined the Bears in 2020. He was traded to the Eagles partway through the 2022 season. He would appear in a total of 13 games (seven with Chicago and six with Philadelphia). However, he was sidelined by injury late in the season.

Jimmy Graham Arrested After “Medical Episode”

Meanwhile, Saints tight end Jimmy Graham was arrested in LA on August 18. Graham was detained after police found him disorientated and wandering in traffic. His charges have not been announced. However, he was reportedly detained on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Graham and the Saints are in LA for a preseason game with the Chargers. Graham participated in practice early in the day. Additionally, team doctors believe he may have suffered a seizure.

The Sains issued a statement on August 19. “New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham experienced a medical episode last evening, which resulted in him becoming disoriented. He was taken into custody by local authorities and transported to a local hospital for evaluation for what Dr. John Amoss believes to be a likely seizure and spent the night under medical supervision and testing. Amoss met Graham at the hospital and is overseeing his care at this time. He was released this morning and is with the team as they continue preparations for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.” Furthermore, Dr. John Amoss is the Saints’ team doctor.

Jadeveon Clowney Joins The Ravens

2014 first-overall pick Jadeveon Clowney has signed with the Baltimore Ravens on a one-year deal. The contract is worth $2.5 million but could rise to as high as $6 million with incentives, per ESPN. Clowney had visited the Ravens on August 8 but left Baltimore without a contract. He also visited the Jaguars before making his decision. “He is a tough, hard-nosed, throws-his-body-around kind of player,” Ravens coach John Harbaugh said. “We played against him so many times. We understand how he plays and we’re excited to have him. I think he’s a little underrated as a pass rusher.”

Clowney spent the last two seasons with the Browns, recording 28 tackles and two sacks in 12 games. The Ravens opted to add Clowney after spending the offseason looking to add a veteran presence at edge rusher. The team also met with Kyle Van Noy and Dawuane Smoot. While the team is expected to rely on young talents like Odafe Oweh and David Ojabo, they were lacking experienced backups as the season neared. Furthermore, Clowney could see some starts at linebacker as Tyus Bowser struggles to overcome a non-football injury.

Clowney Seeks Redemption In Baltimore

Clowney left the Browns after two seasons on bad terms with the team. As mentioned, he played poorly during his second one-year contract with the team. However, he also made comments that appeared to disparage Browns star Myles Garrett. “You’re all trying to get [Garrett] into the Hall of Fame instead of winning games,” Clowney told Cleveland.com. “I don’t even think [Garrett] notices. I ain’t trying to say it’s him. I try to get along with everybody I play with. Me and him don’t have a problem. It ain’t his fault, and it’s B.S., and I don’t have time for it.” In the same interview, Clowney said he had no intention to return to the team.

In Baltimore, he reunites with Anthony Weaver, the Ravens assistant head coach who worked with Clowney for three seasons as the D-Line coach in Houston. “The guys just want to win,” Clowney told the Ravens’ team website. “They call and say, ‘We’re just trying to win. We can do it here. With the pieces around us, you can come in and help.’” I think they got a great team and a great chance to win. I want to be a part of it.”

Dwayne Haskins’ Widow Settles Lawsuit Against Dump Truck Driver

Kalabrya Haskins, the widow of late NFL quarterback Dwayne Haskins, has settled a lawsuit against the owner and driver of the dump truck that struck and killed Haskins in Florida in April 2022. Haskins was in Florida for a bonding camp with his new Steelers teammates. However, he was killed when he was struck by a truck while attempting to cross I-595. A lawsuit filed in March 2023 against the driver of the truck, as well as the company that owned the truck, alleged that the truck was speeding, was being driven carelessly, and was over the legal weight limit. The lawsuit also named the Florida Department of Transportation, a rental car company that had leased a vehicle to Haskins, and the contractor for the signage on I-595.

Through a statement made by her lawyer, Haskins said that the estate had settled their suits against the dump truck driver and the company that the truck was owned by as well as “various other parties”. However, the statement also noted that “the case continues to proceed in Broward County Circuit Court against multiple other defendants.”

Haskins Estate Still Pursuing Conspiracy Angle

The other cases referenced are ones brought about in regard to claims that Haskins’ death was the result of a malicious conspiracy. His estate has accused a range of people of planning to drug and rob the NFL player. The aforementioned March lawsuit lists four individuals, two restaurants, a driving range, and a hotel as defendants. More specifically, the lawsuit alleges that Haskins was the victim of a blackmail and robbery conspiracy. The suit alleges that a group of four individuals drugged and robbed Haskins in the hours prior to his death.

No charges have been filed in relation to those claims, or any aspect of Haskins’ death. As mentioned by the estate’s statement, the lawsuits relating to the blackmail conspiracy remain ongoing. Haskins was drafted 15th overall in 2019 but failed to leave a positive impression on the then-Washington Football Team. He was released after the 2020 season and signed with the Steelers in January 2021. Haskins remained inactive for all but one game of the 2021 season. However, he was named the backup to Mitch Trubisky a month before his death in March 2022.

Michael Oher Claims “The Blind Side” Falsely Portrayed Him As Having Intellectual Disabilities

More details continue to emerge about the horrifying situation surrounding Michael Oher. Oher, who played in the NFL was 2009 to 2016, was made famous by his life story. His inspiring story served as the basis for the Oscar-winning film, The Blind Side. Oher, who is Black, was adopted by the white Tuohy family after they met him at an elite Memphis private school attended by their biological children.

However, Oher has claimed this week that he was never legally adopted by the Tuohy family. Instead, he claims he was tricked into entering into a conservatorship. That arrangement gave the Tuohys full financial control over his life and life story. Oher, 37, is seeking an end to the conservatorship as well as financial restitution. The Tuohy family has not denied the arrangement, but calls Oher’s lawsuit “insulting”. Furthermore, the family has alleged that Oher demanded $15 million from them before filing the lawsuit. As more details emerged and the lawsuit is further scrutinized, we are starting to get a better picture of what alerted Oher to the truth.

Oher Portrayed As Having Intellectual Disabilities

The claims that Oher was wrongfully portrayed as having an intellectual disability stems from his lawyer, J. Gerard Stranch IV. According to Stranch IV, “Oher was depicted [in The Blind Side] as having intellectual disabilities, which isn’t the case in real life. In fact, Oher was academically gifted, which is how he managed to get into the Memphis private school where we would eventually meet the Tuohy children and their parents.”

It’s unclear whether that portrayal extended to other aspects of Oher’s life. However, it likely helped the Tuohys maintain their conservatorship over Oher, which remains in place despite him being 37. It’s just yet another twist to this ever-evolving story that is likely to get very messy if it proceeds through the court system. The Tuohys have stated that they are willing to end their conservatorship of Tuohy but contest his other claims against them.

“There was so much hard work put into the film that they all though was the truth and now that has been questioned. It just upsets Sandra to no end that a time in her life was so special, is now shadowed with a completely different perspective,” a source told The Daily Mail. “[She] “hates that such a wonderful story, a spectacular movie, and a spectacular time in her life now has been tainted,” they continued.

Bullock is currently in mourning after losing her long-time partner Bryan Randall to a very private battle with ALS. “Now people won’t watch it. And if they do, they will have a completely different reaction to its original intention,” the source added. However, Bullock is reportedly “putting up a strong face and a strong front” amid the fallout. “It has been a rough patch for her emotionally with the loss of Bryan, and now she is heartbroken in a different way with all the fallout from the Michael Oher news,” the source concluded.

Deion Sanders Scolds Colorado Players For Not Joining Practice Fight

NFL legend Deion Sanders has big plans for the Colorado Buffaloes. After three years leading Jackson State, Sanders left to revamp a Colorado program that had won just nine games over the past three seasons. Over 70 players have left the program, with nearly 40 joining via the transfer portal. This has led to some criticism of Sanders’ behavior from other members of the NCAA coaching world. However, the hype has never been higher for the Colorado program. Perhaps as a result of this, discussions as to whether Colorado is going to leave the ever-ailing Pac-12 have begun to circulate.

However, the program is still yet to play a game under Sanders. It’s a moment that everyone is eagerly anticipating. Despite the hype, the run-up to their season opener against TCU has been tough for Sanders. Sanders has been dealing with circulation issues in his left foot for a number of years. After having two toes amputated in 2021, surgeons could worry that the persisting problem could cost him the whole foot. Furthermore, he underwent emergency surgery last month to deal with blood clots in his groin and leg. However, that didn’t stop Sanders get heated at a recent training session.

Sanders Preaches Team Unity

During an August 15 training session at Folsom Field, tensions briefly flared. Safety Jaden Milliner-Jones threw running back Anthony Hankerson to the ground after a short-yardage touchdown run. This led to tackle Gerad Christian-Litchenhan squaring off with Milliner-Jones and soon an all-out brawl was in full swing. The ruckus was eventually broken up by assistant coaches. However, Coach Sanders had a surprising take on the whole situation.

“I seen two of you walking off, over there, and you’ve got a key teammate fighting,” Sanders said. “Where they do that at? Where they do that at? If one fights, we all fight,” Sanders continued. “You understand that? I don’t want to see you all walking off when somebody’s fighting. Never again!” It’s a bold take from the coach. Coaches usually instruct their players to avoid fighting. However, for Coach Prime, it’s an all-or-nothing deal when it comes to team unity. As mentioned, Colorado kick off their first season under the Hall of Famer with a September 2 visit to TCU.

Michael Oher Referenced Conservatorship In 2011 Memoir

Oher Referenced Conservatorship In Memoir

Michael Oher
NEW YORK, NEW YORK – AUGUST 09: Michael Oher visits SiriusXM at SiriusXM Studios on August 09, 2023 in New York City. (Photo by Roy Rochlin/Getty Images)

However, a major point of contention about Oher’s claims that he only discovered the truth in February of 2023 is a passage from his 2011 memoir. In I Beat The Odds: From Homelessness, to The Blind Side, and Beyond, Oher directly referenced the conservatorship. “Sean and Leigh Anne would be named as my ‘legal conservators. They explained to me that it means pretty much the exact same thing as ‘adoptive parents,’ but that the laws were just written in a way that took my age into account. Honestly, I didn’t care what it was called. I was just happy that no one could argue that we weren’t legally what we already knew was real: We were a family.”

This is being used as some sort of gotcha that Oher was fully aware of the situation he was in. However, let’s break this text down. “Sean and Leigh Anne would be named as my ‘legal conservators. They explained to me that it means pretty much the exact same thing as ‘adoptive parents,’ but that the laws were just written in a way that took my age into account.” Oher’s claim is that he was tricked into signing a conservatorship. This is 13-year-old proof of that. There are huge legal differences between adoption and legal conservatorship. Telling an 18-year-old with little legal knowledge that they are “pretty much the exact same thing” is indeed tricking them into signing a document that benefits you and not them. This is a developing story.

Social Media Loves Bill Belichick’s Replacement In “Madden 24”

Bill Belichick famously does not appear in the Madden franchise. This is because EA’s licensing agreement for the likeness of coaches is with the National Football League Coaches Association. Belichick is not a member of the NFLCA and has not independently given his permission to EA to use his likeness. However, someone needs to coach the Patriots, especially if you the player aren’t going to. This has led the developer to create an annual stand-in for the veteran head coach. Previous versions have included Chad Masters, Griffin Murphy, and Josh Moore. Oftentimes, the in-game portrait of fake Belichick was modeled on EA VP Roy Harvey.

However, Madden 24, which will hit general release on August 18, features a new fake Belichick. Peter Gaffney is a balding man with a rough beard and glasses. He looks like the obsessive toy collector who lowkey kidnaps Woody in Toy Story 2. Meanwhile, SB Nation‘s list of 42 things that Gaffney looks like includes “He looks like he has a Twitter, but doesn’t have his name on it, and he comments under women’s sports posts with “not a real sport” and “Pete Gaffney owns a two-handed longsword and has been arrested for using it at his nephew’s 6th birthday party. The children were terrified.”

Social Media Rejoices At The Arrival Of Fake Belichick

What’s truly amazing about Fake Belichick is that EA has seemingly resolved to never make him look even vaguely like the real Bill Belichick. There is no Bill Belichick in the Madden universe, only Peter Gaffney. And of course, social media was absolutely here to welcome Peter Gaffney to the much-vaunted position of NFL head coach.

Of course, perhaps Gaffney is the spark the Patriots need this year. New England was 20th in passing yards, and 16th in total touchdowns last season. The Patriots have attempted to remedy this offensive malaise with the signings of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mike Gesicki. While they didn’t address offensive skill positions until the sixth round of the draft, it will be intriguing to see what Gaffney can do with this new look team as Mac Jones likely fights to keep his starting spot.

Buccaneers Wide Receiver Russell Gage Suffers Season-Ending Injury

In a spot of bad news for Tampa Bay fans, starting slot receiver Russell Gage has been ruled out of the 2023 season due to a knee injury. Gage was removed from a joint practice with the Jets on August 16 via medical cart. The Buccs confirmed it was a non-contact injury, suffered while Gage was backpedaling in a 7-on-7 drill. “I can tell by the way that he was sitting on the truck that it was probably something that happened pretty bad,” head coach Todd Bowles said. “Our hearts go out to him, and we’ll see how it goes.”

It’s yet another injury for Gage, who struggled with a hamstring issue throughout the spring and into the first days of training camp. Additionally, Gage left the Buccs’ playoff loss to the Cowboys with a concussion that took three weeks to recover from. Last season, he had 426 yards and five touchdowns in 13 appearances. He joined Tampa Bay from Atlanta in 2022 after recording back-to-back seasons with at least 770 yards receiving.

Buccs To Navigate Loss Of Gage

There are more impactful players the Buccs could have lost, but Gage was a solid depth piece. His departure will mean that the Buccs will have to get a little creative at the position. Deven Thompkins is currently sat behind Gage on the depth chart. However, the 2022 undrafted free agent had just 10 targets last season. It’s unclear whether he would be ready to make the leap the Buccs would be looking for from a starting slot receiver. There is also rookie Trey Palmer and free agent signing David Moore but again, neither screams starter.

Of course, this is just another headache for a Buccs team searching for an offensive identity after the retirement of Tom Brady. They are currently rolling with the rollercoaster journeyman Baker Mayfield as QB1. Although their backup if Mayfield falls flat is Kyle Trask, which is less than encouraging. While their receiving core remains great, the position is very much dependent on someone to throw them the ball. Of course, the presumed fall of the Buccs opens up the AFC South for a new champion. But it seems at those the division might be come the league’s joke quartet for the time being.

Michael Oher Lawsuit & “The Blind Side” Controversy, Explained

Fourteen years after the release of The Blind Side and former NFL offensive tackle Michael Oher shed light on the reality surrounding his story. Oher emerged with a bombshell lawsuit this week, accusing the Tuohy family of exploitation. In a lawsuit filed to a Tennessee court, Oher claims that the Tuohy family never actually adopted him and only took him in for their own personal benefit. The lawsuit aims to end the conservatorship agreement that Oher signed. He also alleged that he didn’t earn a penny from royalties.

Although The Blind Side earned Sandra Bullock an Oscar nomination, the film didn’t go without its fair share of controversy. Many accused the film of portraying the “white savior” narrative, suggesting Oher wouldn’t have been able to succeed had it not been for the generosity of the Tuohy family. Oher’s previously aired out his issues with his portrayal in the film. Now, the depiction is now at the center of his new lawsuit. Below, we’ve broken down Michael Oher’s claims against the Truoy family, their response, and the controversy surrounding The Blind Side

Michael Oher: From Homelessness To The NFL

The Blind Side portrays Michael Oher as a homeless, disadvantaged youth who the Tuohy family took into their home. The film documented his phenomenal rise to entering the NFL, which undoubtedly won the hearts and minds of viewers. His inspiring story followed his ascent to all-American left tackle and the hefty sum he received during his NFL career.

Oher was the first-round pick for the Baltimore Ravens, later helping the team with the Super Bowl in 2013. The following year, he signed a $20 million multi-year contract with the Tennessee Titans. He, unfortunately, suffered an injury that resulted in the Titans letting him go. However, he began playing for the Carolina Panthers until 2017. Throughout his career, it’s estimated that he earned upwards of $34 million.

The White Savior Controversy

The 2009 film gained significant esteem and success at the box office to the tune of $300 million. Not to mention, it received a nomination for Best Picture at the Academy Awards while Sandra Bullock, who played Leigh Anne Tuohy, won the Oscar for Best Actress. However, the film faced much criticism over the years for perpetuating the white savior trope.

Even though Oher’s praised the film for its portrayal of the Truoy family, he also took issue with the depiction of his character. In his memoir, I Beat the Odds: From Homelessness To The Blind Side And Beyond, he said that it misrepresented his character, specifically diminishing his own agency and resilience. He explained that The Blind Side showed him as a “dumb” kid rather than a child “who had never had consistent academic instruction.” Additionally, the film misrepresented him as a young child with no knowledge of football until the Tuohy’s took him in.

“People look at me, and they take things away from me because of a movie,” Oher told ESPN in 2015. “They don’t really see the skills and the kind of player I am. That’s why I get downgraded so much, because of something off the field … That’s why I don’t like that movie.’’

Michael Oher’s Lawsuit: Unraveling The Truth

Michael Oher the blind side
BALTIMORE, MD – DECEMBER 11: Michael Oher #74 of the Baltimore Ravens blocks Fili Moala #95 of the Indianapolis Colts at M&T Bank Stadium on December 11, 2011 in Baltimore, Maryland. (Photo by Rob Carr/Getty Images)

Earlier this week, Michael Oher filed a lawsuit against the Tuohy family in Tennessee Shelby County, per ESPN. In the suit, he alleges that the family exploited his story and used his likeness for their own financial gain. Oher believes the family made millions from the book and movie based on his life. Meanwhile, he claims he’s yet to see a single penny from royalties.

Oher claims that Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy deceived him into signing a conservatorship rather than becoming his actual adoptive parents. Sean Tuohy explained that they wanted to take Oher in when he was 18 but they had to enter a conservatorship contract to officially make him part of their family. Oher said that he only found out recently that he wasn’t actually adopted officially, accusing the family of lying to him over the years. Now, he’s asking for a full accounting of the money earned from his name and likeness. The petition claims the Tuohy’s and their kids, who are now adults, earned $225,000 each from the film, along with 2.5% of the movie’s defined net proceeds.

“Michael Oher discovered this lie to his chagrin and embarrassment in February of 2023, when he learned that the Conservatorship to which he consented on the basis that doing so would make him a member of the Tuohy family, in fact, provided him no familial relationship with the Tuohys,” the petition to end the conservatorship stated.

The Conservatorship Controversy

The conservatorship that Oher unknowingly entered into plays a central role in the lawsuit. Conservatorships are legal arrangements that grant decision-making powers to others, usually for individuals with diminished capacity due to health concerns. Oher alleges that the family tricked him into a conservatorship after turning 18, which allowed the Tuohy family to control his financial affairs and exploit his name and story for their own gain.

The Tuohy Family’s Response

In response to the lawsuit, the Tuohy family denied that they solely took Oher into their family for financial gain. Speaking to the Daily Memphian, Sean Tuohy said the family was “devastated” by the claims. “It’s upsetting to think we would make money off any of our children. But we’re going to love Michael at 37 just like we loved him at 16,” Sean said.

However, Sean denied that he or the family made any money from The Blind Side. We didn’t make any money off the movie,” he said. “We were never offered money; we never asked for money.” He added that the author of the book The Blind Side, Michael Lewis, provided the family including Oher, half of his share. He said that amounted to $14,000 each.

Furthermore, Sean also explained that he only entered the conservatorship for Oher’s benefit. He explained that it allowed them to help him gain medical benefits and secured Oher’s eligibility for college football. “It’s hard because you have to defend yourself, but whatever he wants, we’ll do. We’re not in this for anything other than whatever he wants,” Tuohy continued. “If he’d have said, ‘I don’t want to be part of the family anymore,’ we’d have been very upset, but we absolutely would have done it.”

A Shakedown?

In an official response to the lawsuit, Marty Singer, the legal representative of the Tuohy family, told TMZ that Oher’s previously approached them with similar legal threats in the past. The 14-page filing alleges that Oher’s previously demanded $15 million from the Tuohy and threatened to “plant a negative story about them in the press” if they didn’t cough up the money.

“[The conservatorship] was established to assist with Mr. Oher’s needs, ranging from getting him health insurance and obtaining a driver’s license to helping with college admissions,” Singer said. “Should Mr. Oher wish to terminate the conservatorship, either now or at anytime in the future, the Tuohys will never oppose it in any way.”

Final Thoughts

At this point, it’s too early to determine what may happen next, especially after Singer’s recent petition. The Tuohy’s said that they are willing to terminate the conservatorship at any point, which could seemingly resolve one aspect of the lawsuit. However, when it comes to the accounting and the numbers attached to the success of The Blind Side, it might become an upward battle for both parties.
