Watch: Anthony Mackie Raise the Shield in Powerful New Trailer for ‘Captain America: Brave New World’

image

On Friday (July 12), Marvel Studios unveiled the hot new teaser for “Captain America: Brave New World.” This franchise restarter or sequel, depending how you look at it marks lead Anthony Mackie’s debut as Sam Wilson in his first standalone film as the iconic hero.

If you’re a Harrison Ford fan, the Star Wars icon, makes his entry into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, a role previously held by the late William Hurt. Ross, known for his relentless pursuit of the Hulk, has now ascended to the Presidency of the United States. Sounds fun for Ford. Excited he’s in the MCU.

Onto the teaser … Ross proposes to Sam, “You and I haven’t always agreed in the past. But I wanna make another run at making Captain America an official military position.” Sam queries the potential conflicts, asking, “And if we disagree on how to manage a situation, then what happens?” Ross sidesteps the question, urging, “Work with me, Sam.” He later hints at a darker agenda, saying, “We’ll show the world a better way forward.”

Isaiah Bradley (portrayed by Carl Lumbly), last seen in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier” as a Black soldier transformed into a super soldier decades ago, makes a dramatic return, attempting to assassinate Ross. Additionally, Giancarlo Esposito’s character, a gun-wielding antagonist, features pretty prevalently in the teaser.

Get this, Sam issues a stark warning to Ross: “Sir, your inner circle has been compromised. Either you can’t see that, or you don’t want to.”

If you recall, Tim Blake Nelson from the franchise, he reprises his role as Samuel Sterns from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” cautioning, “Global power is shifting. You’re just a pawn.”

The action gets intense in the teased scenes, including Sam battling heavily armed foes and partial destruction of the White House, Ross confronts Sam, declaring, “You may be Captain America, but you’re not Steve Rogers.” Sam affirms, “You’re right, I’m not.”

The mini trailer hits its climax, with some cool aerial combat, featuring Sam alongside Joaquin Torres (Danny Ramirez), who has taken up the Falcon mantle. The final shot teases the emergence of Red Hulk, Ross’ formidable alter-ego, as he hurls Cap’s shield into the ground.

Get ready “Captain America: Brave New World” is set to hit theaters on February 14, 2025.

Meagan Good ‘Advised’ by Friends Not to Date Jonathan Majors Speaks of ‘Support’ in Her Relationship

image

Meagan Good discussed her new film “Divorce in the Black,” during Tuesday’s episode of “Hoda and Jenna.” The conversation got good, pun intended. She opened up about her relationship with Jonathan Majors. She highlighted the “support” they provide each other and addressed the controversy surrounding their relationship. See, isn’t that what it’s supposed to be about? Support.

“The support that we’ve been able to give each other, the pouring into each other, the honest conversations, the love, the respect, just the care and the thoughtfulness—it’s just been really wonderful,” Good shared during the interview.

Good revealed that many advised her to delay making their relationship public due to Majors’ legal issues. Despite considering their advice, she ultimately decided to follow her own judgment:

“One thing I know is that I can always look in the mirror when I trust my spirit, when I trust God, when I ask God, and when I move to the beat of my own drum… I can always look and say, ‘Okay, I’m proud of that.’”

Good further emphasized her sense of peace and harmony when following her own path. “No matter whatever happens, I have peace in my heart and have harmony in my heart. And it’s only when I do something based on someone else saying ‘well I think you should do this… I take everyone I love’s opinion into account, but at the end of the day, I’m the one who has to live my life.”

Here’s how Good wrapped it up, “I want to be responsible for the choices I make and want to live the life that I want to live.”

Marlon Wayans Addresses Home Invasion Incident Involving Brother Keenen Ivory Wayans

Marlon Wayans Calls Out Game of Thrones for Lack of Diversity

This past week, Marlon Wayans’ home was broken into while his brother, Keenen Ivory Wayans, was inside. Marlon Wayans, known for his comedic prowess, and his famously funny family were the latest targets of burglars in the L.A. area.

According to law enforcement sources who spoke to TMZ, the incident occurred around 2:30 AM last Saturday. While Marlon was not home, his brother Keenen Ivory Wayans was present when two audacious thieves broke into the house. The intruders sneaked into the backyard, shattered a back window, and gained entry into the residence.

Keenen was reportedly awakened by the noise but did not realize the gravity of the situation. Believing it was nothing significant, he shrugged it off and went back to bed. It wasn’t until one of Marlon’s staffers returned to the house around 8:00 AM and discovered the home had been ransacked that the burglary came to light. Keenen was shocked to find that the thieves had made off with a safe and several thousand dollars in cash.

The police have since launched an investigation and are canvassing the neighborhood for any video footage that might lead to the culprits, but so far, no arrests have been made.

Marlon Wayans took to Instagram to assure his fans that he and Keenen are okay, expressing his gratitude. “God is so Good. Everyone is fine. I’m grateful,” he wrote. In a video posted on Thursday, the stand-up comedy star and “White Chicks” alum opened up about the home invasion, humorously suggesting that the burglars “pick a better” target next time.

In the minute-long video, Wayans quipped, “The most valuable thing in my house is my house. So, unless you’re gonna put that (expletive) on a truck and drag it away, then, yeah, man, you did well, but I don’t own (expletive).”

He further explained, “Sorry, I live a simple life with 2 cats and one of them is a 1994 Range Rover. You will need a jumpstart if you steal it ‘cuz the battery is dead,” adding, “I don’t have a bunch of cash or jewelry.”

Wayans also advised against home invasions in a heartfelt message to robbers: “Robbers don’t waste your energy or your life doing home invasions.” He elaborated on his Instagram page:

“Dear ROBBERS and OTHERS,
I am the WRONG N***** to ROB. Save your energy. I don’t have anything valuable in my house except MY HOUSE. Sorry, I live a simple life with 2 cats and one of them is a 1994 Range Rover. You will need a jumpstart if you steal it ‘cuz the battery is dead. Robbers don’t waste your energy or your life doing home invasions, shit is too heavy!!! You want to carry all that bullshit? Throw your back out, and for what?! I repeat I don’t own shit valuable. I don’t have a bunch of cash or jewelry. Please pick a better 🎯 thank you and love you… still.”

Lupita Nyong’o Reflects on Chadwick Boseman’s Cancer Death That Helped Her Portrayal in Box Office Hit ‘A Quiet Place: Day One’

image

Lupita Nyong’o has shared that the death of her close friend and Black Panther co-star, Chadwick Boseman, from colon cancer in August 2020 profoundly impacted her while working on A Quiet Place: Day One.

Boseman’s private battle with cancer and his passing at the age of 43 left Nyong’o deeply shaken. Reflecting on this experience, she told an outlet, “It shook me to my core.” We all miss Chadwick. He was more than just an actor but an inspiration and champion for everyone – not just just within the culture but all those fighting cancer and more.

Get this, the 41-year-old actress found her work on the film to be therapeutic. “I definitely was thinking about that a lot,” she explained. “What I came to realize is that it’s really important to be reminded of our mortality because then we live life just a little more intentionally. When we think we have all the time in the world, we can really take people for granted and experiences for granted.”

When it comes to the performance of A Quiet Place: Day One, the film has been performing well at the box office. After it’s opening weekend, A Quiet Place: Day One finished in second place behind Inside Out 2, one of the biggest films of all time, surpassing the openings of its predecessors, with a $53 million start compared to the $50 million and $47 million openings of the first two films. Boom. Or should we say “Shhhh …” The original film had a budget of $17 million, while the sequel’s budget was $61 million. Day One, with a budget of $67 million, is the most expensive in the franchise. The first two films, largely carried by Emily Blunt, grossed over $638 million. Day One, anchored by Lupita Nyong’o, would need the highest worldwide gross of the series to reach the billion-dollar mark. So this installment costs way more than the first with even more allocated to marketing but it’s performing well, so we’ll see how it all ends.

A Quiet Place: Day One is currently in theaters and is set to stream on Paramount+ in the coming months. Gonna check it out? We think ya’ll should!

Colman Domingo Believes Michael Jackson Biopic Will ‘Shine a Different Light’ on the King of Pop

image

Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo recently offered a sneak peek into the forthcoming Michael Jackson biopic, titled “Michael.”

The film which is set for release in theaters on April 18, 2025, aims to “shine a different light on Michael Jackson,” Domingo, 54, shared with Entertainment Tonight at the BET Awards on June 30, where he was up for best actor.

ICYMI, the film features Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s real-life nephew, as the King of Pop. Michael Jackson, who passed away at age 50 in 2009, left a complex legacy marred by multiple abuse allegations.

“Michael Jackson is undeniably one of the most prolific artists that has ever been on this planet,” Domingo told ET. “He’s a complicated human being, and I think what the film will do is tell the story of a very complicated person.”

The “Rustin” star portrays the controversial Joe Jackson, Michael’s father, who managed the Jackson 5 and daughters Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet from the 1960s through the ’80s. Nia Long takes on the role of matriarch Katherine Jackson, while 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi plays a young Michael during his Jackson 5 days, and Miles Teller portrays Michael’s lawyer and manager, John Branca.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“Michael” will showcase the pop star’s “triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale — from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances.” The film promises to provide “an inside look into one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known.”

Domingo went on to express his confidence in the film’s potential impact. “Honestly, I think it’s gonna surprise people what we’re gonna do with this film. It’s gonna be epic,” he told ET.

He also praised Jaafar Jackson’s performance, saying, “When people watch Jaafar Jackson and what he does, they’re gonna be blown away. There’s sort of this spiritual connection that he has with his late uncle. It’s beautiful.”

If you saw, Jaafar, the son of Jermaine Jackson, who performed alongside his brothers in the Jackson 5, was seen in action on set, recreating iconic moments like the “Thriller” music video since the January 2023 announcement of his casting.

Beyond the biopic, Domingo is a rising star, leading the A24 film “Sing Sing” (in theaters July 12), which delves into the Rehabilitation Through the Arts theater program at New York’s Sing Sing Correctional Facility, featuring formerly incarcerated alumni. His acclaimed play “Wild with Happy” recently premiered as an audio adaptation on Audible.

Jamie Foxx Recounts Mystery Illness That Began with a ‘Bad Headache’

image

Finally, Jamie Foxx has revealed more about the mysterious illness that hospitalized him last April. The 56-year-old actor shared his experience in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter) by The Art of the Dialogue.

“Look, April 11th last year,” Foxx said to a group gathered around him at an outdoor café in Phoenix, “Bad headache. I asked my boy for an Advil.” He snapped his fingers, indicating how quickly things escalated.

“I was gone for 20 days,” Foxx continued. “I don’t remember anything.”

Here’s Foxx describing the early response to his health crisis, “So they told me — I’m in Atlanta — so they told me my sister and my daughter took me to the first doctor,” referring to his sister Deidra Dixon and daughter Corinne Foxx. “They gave me a cortisone shot,” he said to a woman next to him. (According to the Mayo Clinic, a cortisone injection can “relieve pain, swelling, and irritation.”)

Something many can appreciate, Foxx, then mentioned the next step in his medical journey: “The next doctor said something’s going on up there,” he said, pointing to his head, though he refrained from specifying further on camera. “I won’t say it on camera,” Foxx added, drawing laughs from the crowd. “But it was…” he trailed off, shrugging, as the video ended.

In a heartfelt note to this harrowing journey, Foxx previously credited his sister Deidra with saving his life during this crisis, posting on Instagram, “without you I would not be here … had you not made the decisions that you made I would’ve lost my life.”

On the lighter side, thankfully Foxx returned to the FOX competition show Beat Shazam after missing season 6 due to his illness. He has also hinted at a return to stand-up comedy, where he plans to address his health scare. In February, Foxx hinted at his comeback, saying, “Going to get on somebody’s stage somewhere near you. I got some jokes, and a story to tell….”
