Drake Teams Up With NFL For OVO Collab Despite League’s Association With Kendrick Lamar

Drake and Kendrick Lamar engaged in one of the most jaw-dropping beefs in the history of hip-hop. Overall, this is a feud that is going to go down in history, especially with the way it ended. Kendrick ultimately got the win, and he did so in a brutal fashion. His mastery of tone and strategy were second to none, and Drizzy didn’t really have an answer. In the aftermath of Lamar’s win, he was even awarded the Super Bowl Halftime Show, which has proven to be a controversial decision.

Despite the league’s newfound association with Kendrick, it would appear as though Drake is still in business with the league. Over the years, Drake has dropped a few collaborations alongside the NFL, through his OVO brand. The OVO imprint is mostly known for its impressive streetwear designs. Overall, these collaborations draw a ton of hype, and most importantly, they look good. Now, OVO and the NFL are teaming up for a brand-new collection.

Drake’s OVO x NFL Collab Sneak Peek

As you can see in the tweet above, it would appear as though this new collaboration is going to bring the OVO aesthetic to some unique jackets. In fact, these jackets seem to be in the same style as those iconic Starter jackets that were popular decades ago. As for the release date of the collaboration, you can expect the new pieces to arrive on Friday, December 13th. Essentially, these are coming out right in time for the Christmas holiday.

It will be interesting to see what else Drake will do with the NFL, in the future. There were rumblings that Drake had been asked to perform the Super Bowl Halftime Show twice. However, on both occasions, Drake decided that it would be best to just politely decline. One has to wonder if the artist will change his tune on that in the future. After all, performing at the Super Bowl is one of the biggest things you can do as a legacy act.

Drake Pleases PETA By Updating OVO’s Guidelines On Merch Materials

It’s been a tough year for animal rights activists to convince Drake to support their causes, because he couldn’t sniff them out with a massive slab of beef cooking in front of him. In the months since the release of WE DON’T TRUST YOU, we’ve spilled a lot of ink on the rap battle of the decade so far, and he’s been unable to let go of it no matter what he tries. But the Toronto superstar eventually cleared the air and moved on, and ironically, the lack of beef has now been matched with a righteous business decision. PETA thanked him on Twitter for his OVO clothing brand eliminating their use of animal fur.

“Here’s a toast to @champagnepapi!” PETA wrote in a statement. “Clothing and lifestyle brand October’s Very Own (OVO), cofounded by Canadian rapper Drake, has confirmed that it will no longer sell products with real animal fur. The decision follows pressure from PETA and more than 100,000 e-mails to the brand from PETA’s supporters urging the company to ban fur – including fur from rabbits and coyotes. In thanks, we’ve sent the company some delicious bunny–shaped vegan chocolates.”

PETA Thanks Drake

Still, there’s some more parallels to draw in this weird Venn diagram of PETA, Drake, and beef. The 6ix God is a pretty big hater of Pharrell, who recently spoke to GQ about how he didn’t really stress out over Drizzy’s disses. But an even bigger Pharrell naysayer is PETA, as animal rights protestors have directly confronted him on multiple occasions recently. One protestor interrupted a screening for his Piece By Piece biopic to speak out against Louis Vuitton, and another group of protestors confronted him after the GQ Men Of The Year party.

Meanwhile, later today, Drake will apparently hop on xQc’s stream to give away $500K for a gambling event, which should be pretty fun. We wonder if he will talk about Kendrick Lamar’s new album GNX, the beef in general, or updates on his PARTYNEXTDOOR collab album. In any case, it’s interesting to see this update to OVO clothing guidelines, and hopefully more big hip-hop brands can follow suit.

DJ Akademiks Claims Drake Took 20 OVO Affiliates To Michael Rubin’s White Party

Michael Rubin’s recent Breakfast Club interview was controversial for many reasons, but one particularly interesting part of the conversation was when he talked about Drake’s attendance at his Fourth of July White Party this year. Moreover, this led DJ Akademiks to claim that the OVO mogul took 20 of his close associates, including his bodyguard Chubbs, to the event, and was the only one allowed to do so as everyone else had a tight one-guest limit. Not only that, but Ak claims that The Boy did so because he wanted to determine the temperature of his industry peers, since this bash went down about two months after the Kendrick Lamar battle ended.

Furthermore, Michael Rubin admitted that he banned Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” at his White Party due to Drake’s attendance. “It was true,” he said of these rumors about the diss track’s blacklisted status. “I just didn’t think it was appropriate, so I said, ‘Hey, let’s not play anyone’s music that’s feuding with anyone here.’ That was a me decision. I just thought it wasn’t the appropriate thing to do.”

Elsewhere, though, a lot of fans don’t really care about this alleged intimidation tactic, and are just looking forward to whatever Drake does next. They already have their theories, as his recent Top Gun references have fans sleuthing as to how this could connect to a potential album’s possible theme. In addition, this also contributes to a lot of tiresome, albeit still captivating and interesting, discourse around the Kendrick Lamar battle that a lot of people would just rather ignore or leave behind at this point. But with so many unanswered questions, who can blame consumers for wanting to stay up to date.

Meanwhile, many rumors emerged about how people treated Drake and how he treated others during the White Party. Lil Wayne, for example, shouted GloRilla out as the only person to say hi to him at the event, which is odd considering the footage that surfaced of Drizzy speaking to Big Glo and how his tight relationship with Weezy continues to this day… Right? Well, other rumors are pointing towards that maybe not being the case, although it’s entirely possible that Tunechi was just talking about people that he hadn’t met in person before. Either way, this is a celebrity mystery that we will likely never confirm the details of for sure.
