Dr. Dre Labels Ex-Marriage Counselor As A “Racist” In Official Response To His Lawsuit

Dr. Sophy, Dr. Dre’s former marriage counselor during the divorce process with his ex-wife Nicole Young, has made numerous allegations. Him and his lawyer, Christopher Frost are looking for $10 million in damages, as well as a restraining order, which he has since received. The reason for this lawsuit is because Dr. Sophy feels that he was threatened multiple times via text message. He alleges that, “Rather than treating the mediation process as an opportunity for healing [Dre] decided to take his frustrations about the mediation out on Dr. Sophy.”

The suit continued, “[His] frustrations that manifested themselves in the form of a nearly year-long sustained campaign. [There were] late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence. and homophobic rhetoric.” A response from Dr. Dre’s lawyer Howard King surfaced in early October in which he says Sophy “slandered” the producer “in a malicious effort to convince his son to turn against him.” Now, the hitmaker is firing back and with force. According to TMZ, he admitted to cussing out the psychiatrist over the phone but never attempted to make any “credible threat of future violence.”

Later in the documents, Dre labels Sophy a “racist” and claims that is the reason he feels threatened. To be more specific, the legal response reads, he’s “invoking the racist caricature that depicts Black men, like [Dre], as inherently violent.” The West Coast icon uses how Sophy tied him to Diddy in his lawsuit and the “violent behavior of [Dre]’s friends.” Other things that he’s denying include the alleged FBI agents that showed up to the doctor’s doorstep to intimidate him and threatening month-old messages from a burner phone. All in all, he’s looking for the temporary restraining order he has against him, as well Sophy’s ability to accrue any potential protective orders.

Dr. Dre’s Former Counselor Files Restraining Order Against Him

Dr. Dre is currently embroiled in a legal battle with Dr. Charles Sophy. The latter served as Dre’s divorce counselor when the legendary producer was splitting from his wife. The divorce was finalized years ago, but Dr. Sophy has come forth with a number of harrowing allegations against Dre. He alleges that he was subjected to threats via text message, and that Dre used “homophobic rhetoric” against him. Due to these claims, Dr. Sophy filed a restraining order against him.

TMZ confirmed the order on October 11. Dr. Sophy filed a temporary restraining order against Dr. Dre on the basis of the allegations made against him. For the time being, the producer can not get within a 100 yard distance of Dr. Sophy or his son. The divorce counselor also requested that Dre stop reaching out to him, whether it be via text, phone call, or email. These requests make sense, given the allegations that he has leveled at Dre. Sophy alleged that Dr. Dre reached out to him years after the aforementioned split was finalized, and began taunting him on a regular basis.

Dr. Sophy is seeking $10 million in damages. It’s worth noting, however, that Dr. Dre has responded to the counselor’s allegations. He accused Dr. Sophy of malicious intent in his handling of the divorce, and for malpractice, as he went from being Dre’s divorce counselor to primary therapist. Furthermore, the legendary producer claimed that Sophy drove a wedge between him and his son. In a statement sent to TMZ, Dr. Dre alleged that Sophy tried to manipulate his son into spreading “false allegations” about the domestic abuse allegations leveled at him by his ex-wife.

Dr. Sophy may have filed a lawsuit, but Dr. Dre has filed a complaint with the Osteopathic Medical Board of California. The latter wants to see Sophy’s medical license get revoked. The counselor maintains that he was the victim of civil harassment and threat of violence based on sexual orientation. He also wants a trial, according to Rolling Stone. The artist, in the meantime, is gearing up for the release of Missionary, his long-anticipated collab album with Snoop Dogg. The legal battle is obviously ongoing, and is set to take some important turns over the next few months.

Dr. Dre divorced his wife Nicole Young in 2021. The divorce process was lengthy, and the producer would up settling for a staggering $100 million. Several years have passed since the divorce was finalized, but it seems as though Dre may have to pay even more. Dr. Charles J. Sophy, a divorce counselor who worked with Dr. Dre and Young, alleges that he suffered harassment at the hands of the producer. He claims that he was subjected to an “ongoing barrage of threats,” and is suing Dre for $10 million. Billboard broke the news on October 9, which is the same day Sophy’s suit was filed in Los Angeles County Court.

Dr. Sophy alleged that Dr. Dre saw him as a punching bag during the divorce process. “Rather than treating the mediation process as an opportunity for healing,” the suit read. “[Dre] decided to take his frustrations about the mediation out on Dr. Sophy.” The counselor claimed that the harassment lasted over a year, and included threats of physical violence. “[His] frustrations that manifested themselves in the form of a nearly year-long sustained campaign,” the suit continued. “[There were] late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence, and homophobic rhetoric.”

Dr. Sophy claims that his interactions with Dr. Dre and his wife started in 2018. After a prolonged period of no contact, however, Dre allegedly reached out via text. The producer and former N.W.A. member then reportedly questioned Dr. Sophy about confidentiality. “I’m not going anywhere,” he allegedly said. “Until you explain to me why you tried to talk [an unnamed person] into saying negative things about me to the media.” Sophy denied these accusations outright. Furthermore, the counselor deemed them “baseless” and “far-fetched.”

Dr. Sophy and his lawyer, Christopher Frost, are seeking damages. They want $10 million in addition to a restraining order, as a means of ensuring Dr. Sophy’s safety. The latter is of the utmost importance to Dr. Sophy, as he cited Dr. Dre’s history of alleged violence towards others. Dre has been accused of beating up multiple women over the years, including journalist Dee Barnes and his ex-wife. The rap producer has publicly apologized for the Barnes incident. He has, however, remained steadfast that he did not engage in abuse towards his former spouse.
